    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

A big fan of this call. I rag on some of the show's callers because they try to speak from a position of authority that they don't, and can't, hold. Brent struck me as a person just trying to figure things out without the anger, fear, or arrogance other callers have shown. Wishing you well on your journey, Brent!

Agree. This caller showed humility. I also agree with your observation that many of the callers to the show are arrogant and assume they have all the answers. Ironically, it is typically those callers who are the least prepared to defend their positions and claims.

This comment had me thinking about how, when online, I try to be careful, mindful, and quick to apologize and correct myself if I, or the person I am speaking to points out an error, but offline, I am sometimes quicker judge the sincerity of the person I am talking to, and I think that's because I can see the other person's facial expressions.
It's funny how different those wo interactions can be; when online, people get the largest amount of my patience as I will forgive what would be seen as utter disrespect offline, because I can't tell why they responded in such a way.

Whether or not we have free will in some esoteric sense (i.e. whether we control what information we receive or how we process it), we have the perfect illusion of free will: We must still make decisions based on the information we have and deal with the consequences of our actions.

The time to believe in something is when there is sufficient evidence supporting it.
The more extraordinary the claim, the more stringent the evidence required.
Without evidence, belief is not warranted.
Theists claim a god exists, and yet whenever I ask theists for scientific evidence supporting the existence of a god, they never offer any for consideration. Makes me wonder why they don't?

This is pretty much what made me start to walk away from religion: how does free will work in a universe where an all powerful, all knowing being created everything.
If I as a designer am expecting a particular result from my design, and the design works in accordance to my knowledge, I was cosnciously and willfully responsible for what happened. If it doesn't happen according to my expectations, then I made a mistake either with the design or my analysis of it.

WHY would it be nice to think we're not predetermined??
There are really only three possibilities:
    ● Everything is predetermined to a minute detail.
    ● Everything is pure randomness.
    ● Some combination.
That's it. Nothing else is even possible. Not even if souls were real. Because the same exact thing would apply to souls. They're either predetermined, random, or some combination.
Now, it's obvious that we're not pure randomness, because we can predict a lot of things.
SOME amount of randomness may be a part of our universe, and ourselves. But everything we value about ourselves, everything that makes sense, every skill we have, everything that works, is due to "the predetermined".
It's dumb to lament the very thing you're made of.
