I think the 2 biggest Pros of backwards comparibility are A) You don’t need to buy original hardware to play older games now, which saves a ton of money B) It saves space- not everybody has room in their setup for all of the different consoles, so having just 1 that plays all of your games is great
100% ! How great is it to play so many "extra" titles on one system? Plus as many of the stickers show on these games they can be really cheap to grab used 👍
If you do end up getting an Xbox Series S/X or whichever you get, and if it’s mainly for the backwards compatibility I recommend these titles if you haven’t played them. Original Xbox: SSX3, TimeSplitter 1&2, Jade Empire, Max Payne 1&2, Psychonaunts, Star Wars battlefront 2, Star Wars republic commando, Conker Live and reloaded and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction Now the Xbox 360 games I recommend Xbox 360: Portal 1&2, Mirror’s Edge, Binary Domain, Asura’s Wrath, Vanquish, Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake, Skate 3, Mini Ninjas, Toy Story 3, Fable Anniversary. There’s waaaaay more games than that, but it really depends on what types of games you like, but out of all the games I listed.. you should definitely give Asura’s Wrath a try, it’s honestly the most fun I had in a while with a video game.
This is genuine fan service from Microsoft here! Its great to see all the passive upgrades these games get from better hardware. Regardless of what they said, I feel like they'll start up the BC program again, but are just taking a respite in the mean time while ironing out any licensing issues.

I use BC all the time. The Mortal Kombat 9 is a particular surprise that it got added. Love the hell out of BC. Grateful someone at Microsoft knew the value of keeping older titles we love alive with this program. I would hope all the games on the current list find their way into people's collections and never end up in dumpsters.

I wish backwards compatibility wasn’t that restricted , If you have the disc or digital game from previous generations you should be able to play it without problems
I agree, I wish it wasn't so throttled. Some point to the emulators of previous consoles, some to the licensing costs to reissue the game on the digital store, and also the extra work Xbox is putting in to update or optimize the games for the new consoles. I actually really like the backwards compatibility but I would have liked to have seen more games here but there's plenty here for both 360 and oringnal xbox titles. I also like the improved framerate and visuals on the xbox one. It's also a lot less loud with its fan unlike the 360s and you have to worry about your discs getting scratched lol. I have 29 360 discs and 11 original xbox playable in total. I loved playing Ssx3 and dead or alive 1 2 and 3 on it. They look and sound great!
I think it's AMAZING the number of backwards compatible games made available- but of course, I'd love to see more 😊 You're right though, the upgrades on games like Crimson Skies etc simply look fantastic, it's incredible they not only ported but upgraded many of these games 🙌
If It was up to the backwards compatibility team at xbox every single game would be on there. There's games out there that they've been trying for years to get on the program but so many games are stuck in licensing limbo or companies want to re-release games themselves and charge full price.
The DLC isn't included with *all* games but it does come with a good handful of games such as the Star Wars Battlefront games, Borderlands etc. Wikipedia has a breakdown of the list of titles. Thanks for watching 😊

Bought my series X last year and i’m really interested in trying out these games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 which some of them i haven’t played it yet back then. Here’s hoping that Xbox/Microsoft will continue the BC Program in the future so i can Play these older titles 😄

One of the perks of growing up is finding the things you enjoy and spending money on them. I truly believe that Microsoft will do the backwards compatibility program again. Because let’s face it after Starfield and many other of those game pass offerings, what does Microsoft have left? Absolutely! It was one thing to bring a decent-sized library over but the care they put in like upscale, increased fps and even free DLC for some (like Star Wars Battlefront II where it's been unavailable since the OG Xbox store closure), it's pretty great 🎮
Good thing to mention and know! If you have a game that's backwards compatible and its heavily scratched. It wont matter as long as the console recognizes the disk it will download from the network and install it, it doesn't install it off the disk.

Yes, the only reason I repurchased an Xbox One a few years ago was because of backward compatibility and to play MLB The Show 21 when it came to Xbox One. I already owned a few old Xbox 360 games I couldn't play but kept because they were rare like NCAA Basketball 2009, so with another IP I liked but didn't have access to on PC in MLB The Show coming to Xbox One it was a no brainer. I own over 60 games on Xbox and over half of them are Xbox 360 titles I loved or just didn't get a chance to finish back then.
Here's a question though... If you popped in GTA San Andreas the Xbox Original version disc into the Xbox X what version are you goin' to get... The amazing normal version in all its nostalgic glory... Or the hidous mobile port 360/trilogy version?
The game was licensed to play on the Xbox 360; making it available on other hardware requires a new license. That's my understanding of it. To make the games playable on the new hardware they have to be downloaded from the Microsoft Store but more than just digital games they are running as they did on Xbox & Xbox 360
No doubt! Over Christmas we grabbed a couple Sonic ports on the Switch (Forces, Racing, Mania) but it'd be nice to see those. A chum is selling Shadow the Hedgehog and I looked it up and was surprised at what it's going for these days
I would still personally prefer if a Hardware/Software Engineer works to finding a way to make the system fully capable of reading, identifying, and communicating with all the data on the disk while at the same time capable of upscaling it. Basically the best of both worlds so that way we won't always need a internet signal in order for it to be possible. Until we have a proper nickname for this technique, I'll just dub it Organic-Backwards-Compatibility.
Just on a side note @@SvennyMcG, how did Microsoft manage to make Windows XP backwards compatible with 95 and 98? I still remember using all 3 Operating Systems back in the day as a kid, and was pleased at how all our older PC titles prior to Vista or 7 we're able to run on our newer system to an extent.
Exactly! I believe it's doable to increase the backwards compatibility and Microsoft seems to be the one primarily focused on opening this up, hopefully Sony & Nintendo follow too 👍
It installs from online - you need to keep the disc as a key to play it digitally but it will download from the store. Good news is that will include DLC for some games 👍

I feel like both Nintendo & Sony need to take a pager from XBOX. Because I personally enjoy older games, more then I do newer ones. And I have been holding on to my PS2 and PS3 systems for a long time. The fact that XBOX Series X has an option to let players play older games is a huge positive in my book. Maybe in future I might get an XBOX Series X, because the console does seem like it's worth getting for gaming, weather it be new or older games.
I have a Series X but my boys still enjoy Game Pass on the Xbox One as well. Definitely love the backwards compatibility options on either console, and I agree it'd be nice to see more of this from all parties 👍

Essentially yes, you'll need to connect to the internet to allow the backwards compatibility to function. You do *not* need a paid online membership though (Xbox Live, Game Pass etc) to take advantage of the backwards compatibility 👍

Select original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles are compatible with Xbox One, and some are even optimized / improved on the Xbox One X! Ultimate Spider-Man and NFS: Underground 2 will play on Xbox 360. I don't see any of those three titles on the backwards compatible list to play on the Xbox One or Series X.

No stupid questions, my friend! The disc will only act as a "key" to trigger the download from the Microsoft Store; in this case, if the install disc isn't triggering the download try inserting the game play disc. Thereafter, the game will fully install to your SSD and you will use the game disc only as a validation key to play it off the SSD. Blacklist is listed as compatible and apparently even Xbox enhanced!

I've installed the Japanese versions of Rumble Roses XX no problem, as well as other region games like Clannad, all the Steins:Gates, and even Panzer Elite Action Fields of Glory. Arcade Compilation Discs like XBLA Unplugged work too.

That one escapes me - they made SO MANY Xbox Star Wars games available like KOTOR and Battlefront but Obi-Wan, an Xbox-Exclusive game, was not updated. If they brought it in now, with the Disney+ show now active, I think it would be played like crazy. Maybe EA Play will provide it one day 🤔

I'm not sure about having to stay online to play but yes, you'll need to be online when you first pop the disc in. Some games will run like 360 while others are improved or optimized
So it's really about the licensing of most OG XBOX games to be backwards compatible on XBOX series X? Is that correct? With Halo & Gears I see your point; however, those Spider-Man games did get released on other consoles besides Playstation. In general it's difficult to get movies licensed games reprinted due to all the associated rights. Perhaps one day we'll see others like Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, Friend or Foe etc though

Yes, you'll need to connect to the internet to download the copy of the backwards compatible game to your console. After that, the disc just acts as a validation key - I'm sure this means it still needs to validate it on the internet as well but it's momentary if you have spotty internet connection
Hello! Unfortunately, it looks like none of those NBA 2K titles made the backwards compatibility list 😕 The only NBA title I see compatible is NBA Jam: On Fire Edition from the XBLA store.

The Series S has the same allowances to play most of these games by purchasing them from the Microsoft Store; the obvious difference here is while compatible you do not have access to your physical discs as there isn't a disc drive on the Series S. Some games, unfortunately, are disc only compatible and otherwise not for sale on the store.

Sony just announced the new PS Plus system today, hope they add more classic titles soon 👍
And you can still buy the original disc and own it.
In some cases buying used physical games is cheaper than their digital counterpart, so having both options available is always nice for the consumer 👍

If It was up to the backwards compatibility team at xbox every single game would be on there. There's games out there that they've been trying for years to get on the program but so many games are stuck in licensing limbo or companies want to re-release games themselves and charge full price.

At this time Microsoft just isn't adding any other titles. The current list of 80+ Xbox and 600+ Xbox 360 titles are still active 😊

One of the perks of growing up is finding the things you enjoy and spending money on them. Video games is definitely one of those things for me as well and having a console that plays multiple systems like the Xbox Series X is definitely a great way to enjoy so many titles over generations. I only play older games so this is great for me. Plus the upscaling on older games is done well and gets these old games looking great on modern TVs.
Absolutely! It was one thing to bring a decent-sized library over but the care they put in like upscale, increased fps and even free DLC for some (like Star Wars Battlefront II where it's been unavailable since the OG Xbox store closure), it's pretty great 🎮

Good thing to mention and know! If you have a game that's backwards compatible and its heavily scratched. It wont matter as long as the console recognizes the disk it will download from the network and install it, it doesn't install it off the disk.

Yes, the only reason I repurchased an Xbox One a few years ago was because of backward compatibility and to play MLB The Show 21 when it came to Xbox One. I already owned a few old Xbox 360 games I couldn't play but kept because they were rare like NCAA Basketball 2009, so with another IP I liked but didn't have access to on PC in MLB The Show coming to Xbox One it was a no brainer. I own over 60 games on Xbox and over half of them are Xbox 360 titles I loved or just didn't get a chance to finish back then.
It's such a great feature! The Xbox and Xbox 360 both had great libraries of games so it's awesome to see the titles still playable today 👍

One thing I just realized how is it emulating when you own the game on a disc
The game was licensed to play on the Xbox 360; making it available on other hardware requires a new license. That's my understanding of it. To make the games playable on the new hardware they have to be downloaded from the Microsoft Store but more than just digital games they are running as they did on Xbox & Xbox 360
Wish games like Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog were also backwards compatible. But, what can you do?

I would still personally prefer if a Hardware/Software Engineer works to finding a way to make the system fully capable of reading, identifying, and communicating with all the data on the disk while at the same time capable of upscaling it. Basically the best of both worlds so that way we won't always need a internet signal in order for it to be possible. Until we have a proper nickname for this technique, I'll just dub it Organic-Backwards-Compatibility.

I still remember using all 3 Operating Systems back in the day as a kid, and was pleased at how all our older PC titles prior to Vista or 7 we're able to run on our newer system to an extent.
Exactly! I believe it's doable to increase the backwards compatibility and Microsoft seems to be the one primarily focused on opening this up, hopefully Sony & Nintendo follow too 👍

It installs from online - you need to keep the disc as a key to play it digitally but it will download from the store. Good news is that will include DLC for some games 👍
Test FIFA Street 4 from 2012 was the last FIFA Street being released for Xbox 360 and Ps3.

I feel like both Nintendo & Sony need to take a pager from XBOX. Because I personally enjoy older games, more then I do newer ones. And I have been holding on to my PS2 and PS3 systems for a long time. The fact that XBOX Series X has an option to let players play older games is a huge positive in my book. Maybe in future I might get an XBOX Series X, because the console does seem like it's worth getting for gaming, weather it be new or older games.
I have a Series X but my boys still enjoy Game Pass on the Xbox One as well.

Essentially yes, you'll need to connect to the internet to allow the backwards compatibility to function. You do *not* need a paid online membership though (Xbox Live, Game Pass etc) to take advantage of the backwards compatibility 👍

Select original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles are compatible with Xbox One, and some are even optimized / improved on the Xbox One X! No stupid questions, my friend! The disc will only act as a "key" to trigger the download from the Microsoft Store; in this case, if the install disc isn't triggering the download try inserting the game play disc. Thereafter, the game will fully install to your SSD and you will use the game disc only as a validation key to play it off the SSD. Blacklist is listed as compatible and apparently even Xbox enhanced!

Unfortunately no, that was an oversight on my behalf. Since this video I have installed all of the games shown here EXCEPT that Virtua Fighter 5 Online; the compatible game is Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, an XBLA digital-only game. Apologies for this error

I've installed the Japanese versions of Rumble Roses XX no problem, as well as other region games like Clannad, all the Steins:Gates, and even Panzer Elite Action Fields of Glory. Arcade Compilation Discs like XBLA Unplugged work too.

That one escapes me - they made SO MANY Xbox Star Wars games available like KOTOR and Battlefront but Obi-Wan, an Xbox-Exclusive game, was not updated. If they brought it in now, with the Disney+ show now active, I think it would be played like crazy. Maybe EA Play will provide it one day 🤔

I'm not sure about having to stay online to play but yes, you'll need to be online when you first pop the disc in.

With Halo & Gears I see your point; however, those Spider-Man games did get released on other consoles besides Playstation. In general it's difficult to get movies licensed games reprinted due to all the associated rights. Perhaps one day we'll see others like Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, Friend or Foe etc though

Absolutely! There have been some 3rd party Dukes available for Xbox One and Series systems (like Hyperkin's). Here's hoping they get into the backwards compatibility again 🙏

But, the Series X does play a decent amount of original XBOX games. You can still buy a USB Duke controller.

Yes, you'll need to connect to the internet to download the copy of the backwards compatible game to your console. After that, the disc just acts as a validation key - I'm sure this means it still needs to validate it on the internet as well but it's momentary if you have spotty internet connection

Hello! Unfortunately, it looks like none of those NBA 2K titles made the backwards compatibility list 😕 The only NBA title I see compatible is NBA Jam: On Fire Edition from the XBLA store.

Yes! *Most* Xbox One games will work on the Series X, essentially all except some like any Kinect games 😊👍
What about series s? The original Xbox games also work on there?
The Series S has the same allowances to play most of these games by purchasing them from the Microsoft Store; the obvious difference here is while compatible you do not have access to your physical discs as there isn't a disc drive on the Series S.
Some games, unfortunately, are disc only compatible and otherwise not for sale on the store.
