I just did it tonight after watching this. I've had it for a year and own 3 dogs. I was kind of shocked it was so clean inside from just using compressed air from the outside.
It’s not too bad if you can turn a screw driver and be gentle you will be fine. I vacuumed the inside of mine and dusted it with car detailing brushes along with air duster. Works good as new now.
Microsoft R&D really outdid themselves on the Series X. Such an easy jenga piece to take apart and put back. They really utilized every space of the shell.
I have an electric duster from Amazon. You plug it into an outlet. Holy moly it’s powerful. Even just spraying through the intake vents the first time it sprayed out some dust. I’ve done it, without opening it, about every 3 months for both my XSX and PS5 :)

Isopropyl alchohol(preferably 90% of higher) is great for lifting stickers. It disolves the adhesive, allowing you to easily lify the sticker. When the alcohol evaporates(quickly), it leaves behind 100% of the original adhesive. This allows you to re-adhere the sticker as if it had never been removed.

Man, this is MUCH easier to take apart than the Xbox 360. It took me hours to tear that thing open, and here you can remove two screws and a couple clips? Love it
I've never opened the Switch but, I've opened up the joy cons and they were a pain as they're super compact. I can see the same thing with the Switch itself as it's super slim.
If the switch doesn’t have a fan inside then dust build up isn’t really a concern because it’s passively being cooled. I’d be more concerned about my screen and joycon drift.
I recently cleaned out a PS3 slim I was given after seeing your videos. The slim was easy enough with its modular design. Three security screws made it a little difficult. Still I like it when manufacturers make it easier for us basic folks to look after our stuff. Like this video I unplugged the power supply, fan etc. The fan and heat sink definitely needed a clean. I found a soft old paint brush helpful and some cotton swabs.
I have to say that the ingenuity and design that the engineers at xbox did with the series x is incredible. When i first got the x i played horizontal but figured id try veritcal and i have to say it pushes out hot air and the bottom intake is usually sucking in air. And its also easy to clean
I absolutely love the hardware of the series x, really well thought out design and even though its imitating the corsair one its a good imitation. I only with the exterior and UI could have looked as unique as its internals.
It’s good to point that you don’t lose your warranty by opening your system! Funny note, I was literally just watching your tear down video of the Xbox Series X because I’m planing to clean it, my gosh are you playing football WITH your Xbox? Hahaha it’s all scratched 😂😂😂
Credit where credit's due, Microsoft seriously streamlined the accessibility of accessing system internals & removing components with relative ease. Gonna make my eventual cleaning spree a hell of a lot more easier.
DO NOT blow your fan with compressed air. This can easily put the fan in a spin that is far beyond design speed and ruin the bearings. People do this all the time then go start their computer after doing this and their fan fails. If you blow air thru it hold the blades or stick something in to block them so it doesn’t spin. You don’t need compressed air to see if it spins, just use fingers to give it whirl if you must.
Please do a Switch cleaning now! I keep mine under a cloth when I’m not playing, as I don’t think the fan turns on while I’m not using it, so it’s quite clean
I cleaned out my console earlier this year after I had a shutdown playing Resident Evil 2. Owner since launch, I indeed had a very dirty Xbox. Bought the necessary tools, followed a guide and had almost no issue cleaning it, with the most troubling thing being taking off the base plate. I had to brute for my T6 as I didn't have a flathead small enough to to fit. Its not hard at all, and there's almost zero risk if you are on a clean and flat surface. Trust your ability to be careful being the best advice here.

Great video! I've had some overheating issues and turned out I had some dog hair stuck in the fan causing it to stick. This video couldn't have been dropped at a better time. ❤

Just put a dust filter in the inlet which will decrease air flow BUT with the help of an additional exhaust fan, it should not only keep the Xbox cooler then original but keep it clean.
I'd be interested in a video for the switch. Mine is an original 2017 unit. I take care of it and it runs fine, but probably due to be cleaned. Maybe fresh thermal paste too.
DC fans use delicate ball bearings. Never manhandle them like this demonstration shows or you will likely knock the fan out of its alignment and it will end up rattling. Only used compressed air and if you must get Hands-on only use a delicate painters brush with fine soft bristles.

I would use a small light vacuum. Compressed air only moves dust, doesn't remove it and can actually push it deeper into the console or further into the heatsink fins. Wipe extra loose dust, dont blow it around with air cuz that aint "cleaning", thats just relocating dust.
Man the Xbox Series X is probably one of the best built consoles ever I mean it's so small sleek and compact yet powerful as hell and easy as hell to teardown. The maintenance for it is so simple I feel like anybody could really do it. Very fantastic console indeed.
I have found a shaving brush (badger hair brush) is the best at cleaning small items and fan blades. It is easier on the fan bearings than wiping with a paper towel or toothbrush which puts a lot of friction on the hub of the fan. Shaving brushes are also incredibly good for cleaning small toys and die-cast model cars.
Did this last night after having it sit in my bookmarks for months. But my series x was making LOUD fan noises and I decided it was time. I'm so glad I did! Now my fan is whisper quiet!
You should have advised people doing this to not allow the fan to spin when blowing it out. It won't always create problems but can bork the bearing if it spins out too fast. I'm not sure the quality of the fan's components but still best to be cautious. This is especially a danger for cleaning fans still attached to a board, as the motor can actually force a voltage to be sent back to the board.
I have 3 dogs and 1 cat. I fight dust all the time in my house but my xbox series x was actually super clean on the inside. I have always used cheese cloth over it while not on because it lets it breath while still keeping crap out. It worked very well.
I like to use a thin microfibre cloth/paper towel damped with deionized water to clean fans, tight spots and metal parts. Anyway, Series X is so well enginereed, I gotta appreciate how compact it is compared to PS5. Good video, it's always reassuring to see someone showing how to do it first.
I’ve never cleaned any of my consoles. From PlayStation 1 to XBox Series X. I’ve had all PS consoles and all generation of XBox. Each lasting me about 8 years. Except for most recent consoles of course. I wouldn’t suggest this unless you’re experiencing issues with your fan. Also do not use compressed air. It has a type of coolant in it which can ruin components of your console.
Easiest way to clean the Xbox sX is to get a henry vacuum or a super vacuum of the like, then suck up through the holes baby, while its off and a fan blowing from underneath lol
Not only was your video helpful and intuitive, but it also was invaluable! My Xbox is running so much quieter and cooler now! Whereas before every 20 minutes, it would shut down because of overheating. Enjoy your like and subscription! 😁👍🏾
it would be stupid to spray air "IN" as you mentioned, as it will do nothing but recirculate dust inside the console. When you spray compressed air, you need to aim it in a way where it removes the dust and pushes it outside.
After 3 years or so of mine running all day, every day in a house with long haired cats, I cleaned mine. There was almost nothing to clean so that's good to know it's not gonna need this all the time.
If your console is really dirty and or taking it apart grab Isopropyl alcohol wipes. I use them when taking PCs apart and it's easier than trying to get bottles of the stuff. Especially if it's hard to find as bottles of the stuff aren't allowed on planes. If you order online were it needs to be put on a plane at some point. They won't deliver it to you.
Appreciate the video! Made cleaning my Series X a breeze. Could you do a video on how to clean the Series S? Both my siblings have a Series S and I'd like to clean it for them.
This is great. I’d love a video of Nintendo Switch, and this could always be a whole series - Switch, Wii U, Wii, GameCube, N64 SNES, NES, X-Box Series, X-Box One, 360, and the Original X-Box. Don’t forget the PS’s 1-5 😮
Used a really bright flashlight just mow to look inside my Xbox Series X and it's absolutely immaculate inside, barely any dust, I've been using almost everyday over a year, my house is just not very dusty since i live outside the city whete the air isn't as poluted.
Couple additional tips: have a second or third can to rotate through while theyre on cooldown since they lose pressure temporarily And hold the cans upright as much as possible since liquid can come out if tipped. You can bend the straw to reach tough angles. Best to avoid getting any moisture on your components 😊
i found it was better to ditch the compressed air cans and instead i use a rechargeable air compressor that is meant for PC's, but it will do the job for these just as good, it's far more powerful than the cans and you can do it as often as you need to without needing to purchase another can, which i have done for years and it's always a pain in the ass, i would rather use something like this little compressor instead because it will last years and years.
Maintenance on any console that has fans is extremely important that and replacing thermal paste from 20 years ago that is dry and crusty on the older systems 🔥
I clean the outside monthly so when I opened mine up i was really surprised how nasty the heatsink was. If you run the default power settings of always on it needs to be done more often.
Thanks for the video I just pulled a small fuzz rug off my heat sink. I was getting the over heating message the last couple days. It probably has been running almost 24/7 since the day I bought it 3 years ago. I have cleaned and vacuumed it from the outside. After opening it up though I found my problems 😂
Series X is the first console that I've had to take apart and clean after 3 yrs. Now I'm vigilant to vacuum it every 2 weeks so I don't have to do it again. The design of XSX/PS5 basically makes them air dust filter.
Great vid. I would be very cautious to not rub the case on the table surface just to avoid any dust from scratching it. Just raise your console everytume, do not slide it on the table
Yo John! Have you used electric air compressors? My friend lent me one and it works great! I've been using it for all the usual things you'd use a can for! Wondered what your thoughts were!? God vid bud. Peace! 🤘
Can an air compressor be used to clean electronics, and if so do you have a recommended PSI? I have an adjustable compressor and I can't stand air duster cans. I was actually just wondering this yesterday as my can ran out and I was thinking I'd rather not buy more. Just thought I'd ask since it was on my mind and you said something about compressed air.
Air compressors can gather moisture and you may risk spraying water all up in your things. A dedicated electronic duster is like a small leaf blower. You can use an air compressor but is not really advisable for the already mentioned issue, Canned air duster is cheaper. Its a one time purchase vs something you can use again and again.
@@kjuju if you don't mind me digging a bit deeper.... My compressor is pretty nice and has a drain, which I empty before every time I turn it on - does that make it safer? With duster, I always end up spraying some white liquid substance on my stuff - will that stuff never harm my electronics?
@@galaxophone So obviously I am not liable for anything happening. If you are positive that you try to make sure its dry the it might not be an issue. I was throwing out the most common thing is see when people ask about using air compressors to clean electronics. But ultimately it's your things and assume all risks.
@kjuju I appreciate your insight and definitely would not blame you if I break something :) I know I've used gas station pumps for my tires that were just straight up spewing water, so I get the risk, but I'm pretty careful with my compressor. I've always wondered about the stuff that tends to come out of canned air and how safe it is. Ill find some time this week to research it :)

Please do one for the switch. Had mine since it came out, definitely needs a service.
Yes, I would be impressed if you would tell me how to clean the series collection
0:00 Xbox bottom right, like mine, wondering if it'll get its first clean since 2001.
The engineers did a great job on this is amazing
Used a really bright flashlight just mow to look inside my Xbox Series X and it's absolutely immaculate inside, barely any dust, I've been using almost everyday over a year, my house is just not very dusty since i live outside the city whete the air isn't as poluted.
Couple additional tips: have a second or third can to rotate through while theyre on cooldown since they lose pressure temporarily
And hold the cans upright as much as possible since liquid can come out if tipped.
@@5226-p1e even better!
running your console horizontally prevent dust from getting inside from the top and you also preserve the disk drive
A video for switch would be awesome too!
Maintenance on any console that has fans is extremely important that and replacing thermal paste from 20 years ago that is dry and crusty on the older systems 🔥
The Series X is a brilliantly designed console.
I couldn’t even run my Xbox for 1 hour previously and it would over heat right at the most intense part of the game and I would lose all my progress
This was very helpful I was able to open it up clean it with no issue thank you for the walkthrough of how to do this
Series X is the first console that I've had to take apart and clean after 3 yrs. Now I'm vigilant to vacuum it every 2 weeks so I don't have to do it again. The design of XSX/PS5 basically makes them air dust filter.
Im getting an Xbox Series X in a few days, and watching this video made things less stressfull when I have to clean it in future use lol
thanks for the tip! Didnt know that, I'll do it later today
Great vid. I would be very cautious to not rub the case on the table surface just to avoid any dust from scratching it. Just raise your console everytume, do not slide it on the table
better yet rest it on a towel.
I recommend a data vac electric buster , I use mine all the time to dust out the radiators in my PC and fans in seconds
Yo John! Have you used electric air compressors? My friend lent me one and it works great! I've been using it for all the usual things you'd use a can for! Wondered what your thoughts were!?
God vid bud. Peace! 🤘
I use my air compressor to clean mine also. Works awesome 👍👍
@@galaxophone Well from dumb experience I can tell you it's certainly not safe to breathe.
Bought one second hand off eBay i very good condition.
Opened it up and pulled all the guts out of the shell and DAMN was it dusty!
Accidentally broke the 2 bottom clips off the back plate :(
Still holds together thanks to the screw and was still worth it.
I'd appreciate a Switch cleaning one for the different models.
Great video m8 for the multi platforms
GUYS ONLY CLEAN THE LOWER COOLER ANYTHING ELSE IS NOT REALLY NECESSARY TO MAKE IT SILENT AGAIN also you can use scissors to loosen the torx if you dont have a torx tool
Thank you for these videos. I opened up my PS5. Luckily it wasn't dirty. I want to open my Xbox series x and my Nintendo switch for cleaning.
Thanks for this Xbox cleaning tut. It will definitely come in handy.👍
4:39 Dust bunnies.👍🐰
Crazy last night I was like I need to do a proper cleaning on my xbox and bam a video awesome thanks great video.
Wow! Didn't realise it was that easy, I clean my ps5 regularly but been putting off my series x because I didn't know how to get into it but that actually looks easier than the ps5
Definitely wouldn't mind a Switch cleaning video.
Thanks to yours and tronixfix videos I was able to deep clean reapply thermal paste to both my original Xbox one and original PS4. Artic mx6 is the shit 🤘
DEFINITELY saving this video for later, thank Spawn 🤙🏽
Definitely do a switch video! You can make a series out of it and clean all the consoles you have.
Thanks for this, seems easier than what I thought
Awesome video brother...Great job!
This is the ideal build for a gaming console.
Thank you for doing these Spawn
I dont know why.. but i think its the most beautiful console i own. Very simple yet elegant
