Great video. Thanks for the help! Watched this to figure out if this mic would work for a podcast we are launching and you helped me answer some specific questions!
just picked this mic up over the blue yeti. blue yet was a great intro to mic's however i noticed it's not ideal for how close you need to be to get that "crisp" voice sound and i like the design of the mv7.... from what i understand XLR is to be used if you have a studio quality or in general good "preamp" or if you need to mix your audio between interfaces like discord or stream with music/game, I on the other hand just wanna sound good when I play games on my computer. The yeti for the longest time, friends tell me I'm "low" in the chat and I am not an audio guy and im not sure why these things can't and shouldn't just be "plug and play" hearing the mv7 out of the box and with the app is extremely user friendly and im exited to try it.
Hi I just got a MV7 and it sounds muffled / quiet. It's connected in USB and I took your video's advices into account. Do you have any idea to get the mic sounds as clear and loud as yours in USB mode ?
You might want to verify that the gain is turned up all the way under the "Manual" tab of the Motiv app. How close are you to the mic when you're speaking into it?
What about if we want to use the USB for audio but don't want the mic to act as the interface... I want to use the USB audio from the MV7 with my Tascam Model 12 as the audio interface, would that work or will the ipad/computer only recognize one of them at a time?
I am seasoned broadcaster and VO artist. I am used to traditional recording methods, yes including razor blade splicing and reel to reels :-). I have had recording studios and used professional recording software of many types; however, I have downsized and no longer have those studios. I purchased the Shure MV7 but I am doing something wrong. I can't seem to get volume in the headphones. Currently I am using on Audacity to record and it does not seem to come back as clean as I would think. Albiet, I am only listening through computer speakers; however, your video is clean. Bottom line, if you create a short video on how to use the touch panel on the mic that would be great... And does the app supercede the touch panel? I do not think so. PS there is no like button on the video and I did hit subscribe.
Can you provide details on how the Shure MV7 microphone sounds when recording on an Android phone with an adapter? Does it sound professional, clear, or noisy?
Bro I can’t get my mic to work shure mv7+ with livetrak L6 I see a little signal every time I say something but why I can’t get a test run on pc literally no sound
Hello sir! What would you recommend to try if I connect headphones and only hear myself and not the computer audio? Even when I switch output settings to the MV7 headphones it doesn't outputs the sound out of the headphones. Any ideas? Thanks!
I noticed that he said to download the app...however, at least for ios, there is no app in the store for an imac. I found the software has to be downloaded from the shure website.
Great video. Just bought the MV7 and the Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD. When connecting to XLR, is the ShurePlus Motiv Desktop app still relevant? or is everything now controlled from the interface?
Thanks! No, the Motiv app isn’t relevant if you’re using it with an audio interface. To me, the most notable loss would be that you can’t use the built in compressor. However you may not need that, and if you like the way it sounds you’re golden.
@@simonpeck one more question please. With my current setup (MV7 connected to Behringer UMC202HD) what is the best way to record? Can I record on my laptop? Do I need a recorder?
@@flush. Yeah, you can record on your laptop right into a DAW. I've used a few different ones and can wholeheartedly recommend Reaper, if you're not familiar with it. It's endless flexibility can be a bit daunting at first, but it's extremely powerful, customizable and you can't beat the price. I prefer it over some other DAWs that I've paid for and own.
@@flush. Yes, if you use a recorder, you won't need an audio interface for recording. But it may come in handy for other reasons -- if nothing else, being able to hook up some decent monitors is key.
Have you tried holding your breath? Kidding! Are you using it over USB with the compressor engaged? On the heavy end, it will pick up more breath sounds.
Yes, this mic could be used for vocals, close-miking on drums or other instruments. There are other mics to consider, depending on what you’re planning to record. How would you plan to use it?
The MV7 connects over USB, so it shouldn't have any compatibility issues connecting to (conceivably) any modern computer with USB. Even if you're using XLR, the interface to the computer is still over USB.
I have a Steinberg UR22C Audio Interface and I'm looking at this mic, do you think it will be better USB or XLR or would I need a more powerful interface to get a noticeable difference?
As you have an interface, unless you have an additional need for USB the MV7x might be a better option as XLR only and slightly lower cost. There are some reports the XLR sounds better on the X than the MV7. Not sure why that would be but hey.
I haven't used that audio interface, but it should work fine with the gain it provides. Since you already have the interface, you could try it out both ways and see which sound you prefer. If you use the mic over USB, you'll have access to its built-in compressor.
like. I am already dying because I can't choose between SM7B and MV7. Honestly, with a pop filter from SM7B for MV7 (just buy separately the pop filter from SM7B) plosives are gone and seems like it's almost the same. ALMOST) in your voice Mv7 sound great. but with some creators, not eveeeen close. I am mainly giving the interviews and this sort of things. Later on plan on doing TH-cam on my own. From what I see, people tend to end up with SM7B anyway, if successful. Soo is this means that MV7 is only good for it's mobility and ease of use (price, not so really, when u buy 250$+ mic, you can splurge on 500+ as well) ? Doest it make sense to go with SM7b right away, even though I am basically just starting out?
Thanks a ton for a short and detailed overview between the two cords. Exactly what I was looking for. Great job!
SHURE MOTIV AUDIO
This is very solid advice. For many, the MV7 is such a better choice than the SM7B. Glad to see you are getting the word out about MV7.
Yeah, and for people who travel a lot, this is a simple, portable mic that can easily go on the road with you, using it as a USB mic.

im using in ear monitors through the microphones audio jack 1:12, and my pc wont recognize the device :/ any ideas?
Could you please share your opinion which one have better talking sound? Btw XLR or USB?
Oh wow, those "P" sounds are really strong.
Yes, it’ll pick up the pops if you’re not careful!
@@simonpeck I looked at some videos, and got the A7WS; hopefully it works!

Would a adapter from usb c to normal usb work or would it make the sound worse ?
could I record with my phone that has a usb connection? or does the mic have to be connected to a laptop?
how would i connect my shure mv7 to my ifi zen dac v2 to hear myself?
Thanks man.

I'm still stuck on the output. Plus, when I want to hear sounds from my computer, I have to turn the USB off. SOS!

I use it without headphones most of the time.
