Very nice, Soren. Just replaced my 14-year-old MacBook Pro, had been using a 25-year-old Shure 4-channel analog XLR rig to feed Soundtrack Pro, long since dropped by Apple. This mic addresses a number of issues encountered with Logic Pro X. Before retiring I ran numerous radio stations, never had problems with Shure gear.
Recently binned off the ultimately disappointing Hyper-x Quadcast for this microphone. My only regret is that I didn't by the MV7 initially. It is substantially better.
The Shure MV7 is a great microphone! But if you want to help even more with the plosives, you can buy a windscreen that's for an SM7B, it'll fit on there perfectly, makes the mic look even more like an SM7B and in my personal opinion, just really enhances the sound quality even further.
I just purchased two of these and absolutely love them. Great companions to my 7b. Such a great mobile mic to use for on site podcasting to have studio sound quality, imo. well done at this price for us newbies.
Back in July 2020 I was looking at the SM7B but really didn't want all the extra kit to just jump on a call wit a decent mic. And really didn't want to buy any other mic because they're fugly as... sooo glad the SM7 is here, pretty much gave me exactly what I want out of the box
Yeah, Mr. Know It All (thats me) recorded his first video with the MV7 last night BEFORE watching this video and had it set to "Near" mode. So it came out super low, as I keep my mic just off screen (about 12 inches off) Lucky me, I get to record the whole thing over again. Upgraded from the MV5 snowball and I think I'll be a Shure man for life. That being said, great video, learned a lot, liked and subbed.
Thanks for making one more people can afford. It's a great product. It really covers the basics for a lot of people. I really like how this is an all in one unit. I use a lot of different computers and need some portability and don't want to drag around boosters cables and other things.
Hi SHURE Team! We love using your microphones to create our videos. One of them is MV7 . We have an interesting idea on how to subtly feature it in our content.
Thank you so much for the video! Just starting out and was wondering why my mic was so darn quiet. Much appreciated!

Hello, I have a shure mv7 and I have the following problem: when connecting the microphone to my computer via USB cable, the audio level it records is very low, even with a maximum gain level (36db) the sound it captures is too low , how do I solve it?
Thanks, Shure, for putting this mic out at a really good price. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, but wasn't one of the big selling features of the MV7 its ability to isolate vocals and, thereby, reduce unwanted background noise? I use WAVES X-Noise and Z-Noise as well as the various iZotope RX8 plugins in my studio to clean up problem audio on recordings made in less than ideal environments, so I'm familiar with ways to do this in post. I guess I was hoping some streamlined type of NR app was being used in the MV7. It seems that all that's being done to combat a noisy environment is to employ a dynamic mic which has less "reach" than a condenser mic, and a cardioid pickup pattern which picks up less sound off-axis and, therefore, picks up less of the room. It's also disappointing that the bass roll-off and presence boost are not available on the XLR output. Still, for $250, it sounds very nice and a whole lot like the SM7B. I may get one just for the sake of great sound combined with portability regardless of whether or not it brings some new voice isolation solution to the table. Out of curiosity, can the bigger SM7B windscreen be used with the MV7? I've been hearing a lot of p-popping in other MV7 reviews.
Really nice and precise video, but not a single word about the XLR output, all focused on USB and APP :-( . is the XLR output completely un-affected of the APP ??....
I'm already loving this mic. My oldschool SM7b is my daily driver, but for the price, I ordered a new MV7. Got an urgent order from a doctors' office -- they want 6 cuts w/ my wife's voice for on hold greetings. I'm traveling, 2 states away... Just now, wife and I connected on Google Hangouts, and I walked her through connecting the mic and changing windows settings. My recording gear is with me here, on the road, so she connected to her WIN10 laptop w/ USB and used the Windows Voice Recorder (pros are saying, "you're doing it all wrong" -- yes, I'll connect it via XLR when I put the studio back together) No processing, no changing settings, no touching the on-mic controls. Just plugged it in, Windows found drivers, and we're recording. BONUS: Some software has conflicts when using the mic for remote meeting AND recording; We streamed Google Hangouts and recorded at the same time, no problems. Wife just emailed the m4a files to me, and I'll have finished audio chopped up and delivered by lunchtime. EASY USB connection, recording and sending raw audio within an hour. The cuts sound great right out of the box. I am so proud of my wife's willingness to plug things in, and so thankful for the technology,. I look forward to using the MV7 in-studio -- I'll experiment with some of the USB options, though I'll probably connect it via XLR. But for $250, this is an affordable, PRO level mic -- SHURE knocks it out of the park again!
Hello, thank you for your video. I have a problem. I bought mv7+ and downloaded the motvi mix app. My problem is this: While speaking from the microphone, I want to hear my voice through the Macbook speaker at the same time, but it did not work. I went into the settings on the Macbook and selected the "audio input" section as mv7. I selected the "Audio output" section as macbook air speaker. But I still can't hear my own voice through the speaker. What setting should I use for this?
can this record sax playing? ive been trying for a long time but when i finish recording the sax is quiet and when i turn the volume up the audio starts crackling, can anyone help me figure out how to fix this
I'm testing mine out right now while using Garage Band to manipulate it. When I finally got it working properly, I was like wow...I sound like a real podcaster and when I played some instrumental beats under a quick recording I did, it really did sound like any professional podcast. With that being said, I'm trying to use this thing for youtube and I want less of the "podcasty" sound so I'm going to try a few things to get the color and texture I want. But overall I feel happy and like I'm on my way.
So I recently purchased the mv7+ mic and the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. I’m really new to this whole scene. Now whether I connect the Mic to either usb or using the XLR cables directly into the interface, when ever I set headphone monitor on OBS I get a delay. I have been working on this for about three days now trying different things and asking on discord. I have tried using the software that comes with the MV7+ and without it. The way I have it set up. Mic is set up on the main screen for MV7+. The desktop audio is set up as MV7 plus headphones I go to the advance settings and set monitoring to MV7+ headphones. I then going to the settings and select monitor with other source. I have tried connecting to headphones directly into my computer and also connecting the headphones into the interface, but no matter what I connect to as soon as I hit headphone monitoring I hear the delay. Now I know if I connect to the interface and hit the direct monitor button then i won’t get a delay, but now I no longer hear any filters from OBS. I must be doing something wrong. Is there a way to get a walk-through of every setting I need to do?
These controls directly change the USB output of the MV7 mic, meaning any app that uses microphone input (Discord, in-game audio, Adobe Audition, Audacity) will receive the audio as configured. The Motiv app is just a control panel, any application will receive the audio.
I was really looking forward to this mic as a portable way for me to record demos while on the road, but I could hear your ac and traffic noise a lot through the video. Now I’m not sure about it. I was hoping this would be my solution for external noise while recording in my jeep.
That is going to be a near-impossible job for ANY microphone, much less one for $250. For your application, I would argue that if it is a demo, why are you concerned about noise? Isn’t it just to document a song or idea for you and you alone? If you really need to get rid of noise while you’re in a vehicle, I would instead look to post-processing like iZotope RX8 to clean up the recording.
@@mjrausch I do VO work so I’d like to replicate as much of a clean sound as possible on the demo to make sure I get the jobs I’m applying for. That’s the only reason I’m concerned about the noise level. I was looking into the sm7b but I really wanted something I can connect straight to my phone for those on the go auditions
@@mjrausch this so far still looks like my best option but from the videos I’ve seen the sm7b seems to do better at reducing external noise. I don’t mind paying for the sm7b, but the ability to connect straight to my phone is what makes me not want to get it.

So much trouble with my new MV7. Its SO quiet and if I turn up gain to compensate the background hum is super loud. Yes, I have tried MOTIV with no luck.
This video was really helpful. If I place the microphone on my desk with my keyboard between the mic and myself, will it pick up the key strokes? I'm not much of an audiophile so don't really know a lot about this sort of stuff I'm afraid
Hey Soren. I've just bought an MV7. When I use the Motiv Desktop app in Manual Mode, the app/microphone adjusts the gain setting without my control which is very frustrating! Frequently, I set the gain to an appropriate level before speaking, but as soon as I talk into the microphone, the gain slider moves all the way back so that I'm almost inaudible. Why is this happening in Manual mode? Is there anything I can do about it or something I'm missing?
Excellent Video - Im having a hum coming from the far option of the MV7 mic. I have the cable all alone in the boom arm and no other devices near the mic. I have it plugged in by usb to the pc. Any way to fix this? Many Thanks
I am new to this world and looking for a V/O mic on my MAC, what program do you guys record into with this? I will be ordering this mic thanks to this video!
Does the Motiv software work if you're using the XLR connection? ie. can you save the presets onto the onboard memory of the mic like you would you with mice or keyboards?
Can I just buy this and use the usb to connect with my mac? Is it all I need? Just a laptop and the mic itself? or do i need any other things like filter thing separately? i need to know because if it’s just the mic and ready to go i’m buying it thanks.
Hi! The MV7 can connect directly to your Mac via USBA-MicroB or USBC-MicroB. If connected via USB, download our free ShurePlus™ MOTIV app for desktop, which gives you access to additional features on your MV7. You can learn more here: www.shure.com/products/microphones/mv7
Hi! If recording with the MV7, the ShurePlus MOTIV desktop app does not have a recording feature. Our team suggests using Audacity or Reaper for recording and editing on a PC or Mac, both of which can be downloaded for free.
Do you have to lock it on the app when your done setting? because I set mine then they go back its not saving, I also preset them...not sure whats going on......I also use OBS When I recored for my channel so do I also set my settings in OBS or just on my shure mic setup, help cause I dont think mine is working
I know it says on your website that the frequency response is 20-20. I can get that on a mic for much less money. I saw your demo, and basically it adjusts the volume and eq with compression. I could easily do that with my Daw and much quicker. So my question is, if I'm using it for multitracking vocals , guitars, etc., then why do I need this mic, when I should be able to get the same results for a lot less money. Thanks, Good demo.
hey guys can I please ask a question In OBS ive set up a noise gate - and sure, when the gate is on I dont see low volumes APPEAR on the noise slider (Green - red) in OBS, BUT I DO hear them still So the noise gate is working by eye but not working by ear Any help appreciated - I basically dont wanna hear mouse clicks or mum talking in the background and would like the noise gate to work Cheers
Hi! We suggest taking a look at this support article on background noise: service.shure.com/s/article/MV7-is-picking-up-background-noise?language=en_US Our Support Team is also happy to help out with some recommendations. You can reach them at shu.re/contact.
Hopefully someone can help with what seems to be a direct question: This mic comes with both USB and XLR can I use it without using the XLR? In other word is in mandatory to plug in XLR?
You can use either output separately OR redundantly - whatever works best for your application! USB only is the primary application we designed the MV7 for. Just make sure you get the MV7 and NOT the MV7X which is XLR only.
Can’t get it to show up on iPad Pro. I can hear myself through the headphones. So something is happing. The Sure Motiv app doesn’t appear to recognise it. Can’t get it to work or show somewhere in Cubasis. Disappointing so far. Anyone any ideas?
Just bought an MV7 and I can't get external monitoring to happen while using USB only. What am I doing wrong, or do I need to use an XLR connection to get external monitoring? Not getting any help from Shure support btw.
I bought a new MV7. Im using it without the soundcard. So while listening the track from my DAW on the headphones connected to the MIC. I need to also hear it from the Desktop Headphone Port. Like Someone is singing and I am Recording. But If i set the OUTPUT as MV7 I can only hear it through MIC Headphones. and If i set OUTPUT as Desktop Headphone port, I can not hear the track from Mic Headphone. Please help.
Hi! You can select 75 Hz or 150 Hz. 75 Hz Low frequency cutoff Provides a 6 dB-per-octave cutoff at 75 Hz. 150 Hz Low frequency rolloff Provides a 6 dB-per-octave rolloff filter at 150 Hz.
Not sure why you guys bother having a gain slider when I have to max out the slider EVERY TIME just so I can be remotely heard at all... don't understand why this mic sounds so quiet compared to previous mics I've purchased.
Hi! Shure doesn't make a cable longer than 1 meter. You can learn more here: service.shure.com/Service/s/article/Longer-Cable-for-MV88plus?language=en_US
ok what about background noises? does it have a function where it can block out background noises? and also do i need to buy like a xlr or can i just use it as a usb?
Does this Flat EQ setting, also remove keyboard sounds? and if not, is there a other possible way to remove background noice, it could be my chair making a noice because im to fat, or something like that?
Hey, so I really like the Near Auto Level but its a bit quiet. Do you know what settings mix would mimic that in Manual mode? So that I can tweak from there. Thanks in advance! I'm just struggling to understand why it sounds so good in comparison.

Does the Motiv software work if you're using the XLR connection? ie. can you save the presets onto the onboard memory of the mic like you would you with mice or keyboards?
I've got the shure mv7 XLR, but whenever i open the shureplus software, it says please connect a compatible mic to continue?? how do i fix this

i think that when you guys making an new dynamic mic make the shure mv7b which can be a usb only mic that sounds like the sm7b
@@ShurePerformanceProduction I don’t have to get audio interference?
I have a question. Did you guys use any post processing? Because the auto mode and manual mode. Does not sound as yours. How to fix it?
He probably has a proper studio so there's most likely sound proofing etc
I’ve been using it without this app I should really download it. Just been plugging it in and using GarageBand
Thanks, Good demo.
hey guys can I please ask a question
In OBS ive set up a noise gate - and sure, when the gate is on I dont see low volumes APPEAR on the noise slider (Green - red) in OBS, BUT I DO hear them still
So the noise gate is working by eye but not working by ear
Any help appreciated - I basically dont wanna hear mouse clicks or mum talking in the background and would like the noise gate to work
Cheers
@@ShurePerformanceProduction Thank you
I feel headache when I use my mv7 microphone, and I feel heavy energy (electricy or waves) comming out of it. had any of you felt this before?
I want to do voice over in a slightly noisy environment. I am torn between mv7 vs Rode NT. Suggestions?
Is there a simple way to connect wireless headphones to the mv7?
When I use the MV7 with OBS studio in auto the sound Is very low. I have to add gain in OBS... why is this?

Our support team can best advise. You can open up a ticket with the at shu.re/contact.
I can't find information about the High Pass Filter. At what frequency is it made?
Hi! You can select 75 Hz or 150 Hz. 75 Hz Low frequency cutoff Provides a 6 dB-per-octave cutoff at 75 Hz.
150 Hz Low frequency rolloff Provides a 6 dB-per-octave rolloff filter at 150 Hz.
I'm having issues getting power via XLR and audio interface (Steinburg UR22C) the interface works fine .
Any ideas 💡
Thanks

Not sure why you guys bother having a gain slider when I have to max out the slider EVERY TIME just so I can be remotely heard at all... don't understand why this mic sounds so quiet compared to previous mics I've purchased.

Hello! Do you know if it's possible to buy cable USB-B - Lightning compatible with MV7 longer than 1.5m?
Hi! Shure doesn't make a cable longer than 1 meter. You can learn more here: service.shure.com/Service/s/article/Longer-Cable-for-MV88plus?language=en_US
can u use the app while using the XLR mode as well???
ok what about background noises? does it have a function where it can block out background noises? and also do i need to buy like a xlr or can i just use it as a usb?
Thanks for the GREAT video
Does this Flat EQ setting, also remove keyboard sounds? and if not, is there a other possible way to remove background noice, it could be my chair making a noice because im to fat, or something like that?
Hey, so I really like the Near Auto Level but its a bit quiet. Do you know what settings mix would mimic that in Manual mode? So that I can tweak from there. Thanks in advance! I'm just struggling to understand why it sounds so good in comparison.

Does these settings clear all background sound?
Can I add a preamp like cloud lifter? I'm using the mv7 with audacity and cannot get the vocals in a -20 to -10dB.

Is there a way to connect iPhone -> MV7 -> MV7X?
Effectively connecting the two mics via female to female XLR cable.
It could work, but the MV7X would be about 6dB down, so we wouldn't recommend it.
mv7 works very good with an iphone. using it on my channel
