    Proud of your brassman. You probably don’t need a stranger on the internet telling you that but I know alot of people in my hometown that had bad starts and didn’t manage to turn things around. You’re a rare breed, once in a generation kinda guy but you’ve had a journey than can inspire a lot more people than you know bro. Keep it up big dawg

    I'm not a customer nor a business owner yet !
    Brass is a guy that has ran the same trail that I've ran in my life !!
    I just never found the confidence to run with the business uet all along i could have and intend to do so ..
    So don't think that he has customers only in here rooting him kn and learning from him.
    I appreciate Brass house for laying his story out here so that real Americans can still get what they deserve with a strong back and perseverance.

    How many years experience do you think a plumber needs to start their own business? What about a guy with about 3 years spent in almost strictly residential service, starting a business?

    • @brasshouse-og
      @brasshouse-og  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don’t think I could’ve done what I did without at least 10 years experience under my belt. As far as my skills and proficiency at doing plumbingnI was probably good enough to be on my own after one year. What really benefited me from waiting so long was making all the good fuck ups on someone else’s dime and making all the connections I was able to make that set me up for success immediately when I did start my company. Residential service is a little bit of a different game, though. It all depends on your goals I guess. You could easily sustain yourself and make at minimum the same amount of money you would make at a regular job. You might still be able to make those connections like what I made while working for other companies but by just working for yourself, so it’s hard for me to say. Personally, I’m glad I waited until I was really seasoned and really experienced.

    90% of residential service plumbing companies doing 10mil + a year are paying so much advertising. Most of there customers are 1 and done because they charge soooo much and make smaller profits they do it for one reason and that's to pump the books so they can sell.
    When a PEFirn looks to buy they care more about revenue #s they will figure out how to make more of that # profit after they buy

    Dude, I love this. Bad ass story I can relate in many ways. Do you think it really takes 10 years to get to this point or could I maybe do it in 5? I’m 28 now I just feel likeI’m late.

    • @brasshouse-og
      @brasshouse-og  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ElijahPrivetteRealEstateVlogs it doesn’t necessarily take 10 years. It just kind of a rule of thumb. you want to be a complete master of something. Once you are a true expert in our results-oriented industry, no one can stop you. It’s just how long it takes for you to be able to sell that product or service better than anybody else. I was honestly pretty far behind the eight ball starting out. I could’ve done it quicker. I probably would’ve fucked up more though. Like I’ve never lost money. I’ve never had to worry about paying payroll. Once my bank account passed 50 K and never went under it and I attribute that to the vast experience I had before I started. Both the experience and the self confidence I had to be an absolute savage in the field.

      @@brasshouse-og thanks for the reply man. I’m starting in the new construction route because I was told if I started there and then went to service I’d be a better plumber. Do you think that’s true? Or should I go right into service?

    • @brasshouse-og
      @brasshouse-og  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ElijahPrivetteRealEstateVlogs well you need both. New construction can be a faster way to get a better understanding of plumbing as a whole quicker. Typically it is better to start with new construction. In my opinion, though remodel is where are you gonna learn the most. There’s a kind of marriage of Service and Construction on remodel. If you can become a really good construction plumber it’ll help you out as a service plumber. But once you’re a service plumber, you’ll really put everything into perspective because it’s not really in theory anymore. You’ll actually know what holds up and last long, whereas on construction, you just put this shit in and never see it again. I think both are critical to being well-rounded

    I have a service business in a different industry and without listen to @jeredwilliams, I wouldn’t have figured out the hourly rate calculator.
    Do you agree with finding overhead, dividing it by man hours, then take that number and divide by .7 which gives you a 30% profit margin???
    Also that’s what led me to your channel 👍

    • @brasshouse-og
      @brasshouse-og  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rustybridges4302 I believe that a lot of overhead is supposed to be paid out of your margin. I can’t figure my shop, insurance, and stuff like that into the cost of goods sold. Margin is what covers the business. I figure a certain price for a crew/day, then over-estimate the price of materials I use for that job and then I get my cost of goods sold. I then divide that by .5 for small scale service stuff, .6 of mid-size projects, and .7 on large scale projects.

    • @rustybridges4302
      @rustybridges4302 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For example, if I had a break even point of $284 I would divide that by .7 to give me my 30% margin which will give me an hourly rate of $405
      Then I take all my materials and then double so I paid $1500 for it. It cost the customer $3000+ however many hours at $405

    • @brasshouse-og
      @brasshouse-og  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rustybridges4302 that’s not how I like to do it. I don’t think marketing and overhead would go into your cost of goods sold. I bring in about 100-150k/month in margin. I have about 20-25k in monthly bills and overhead. That price needs to come out of margin. I don’t think it’s legit to try and factor your overhead which is a personal decision into the cost of goods sold. If you have lead generation and you are paying $100/call I would certainly see that as part of the cost of goods sold but your SEO service or door knockers etc would not factor into cost of goods sold. I’m not generating a margin off office workers. I need to generate enough margin to pay for office workers. I don’t know if that makes sense or not.
