      +supernova1976 I know right, it's like 1000x better than what a car salesman would tell you. :)) These kind of vidoes shows people on how much work, and simply the thought process engineers and designers go through just to give you a quality product. Makes you appreciate the little things. Thanks for the vid TFL.

    I don't know how Nathan felt but this Mazda guy was by far the coolest factory person ever! He actually gave You real information about the car instead of the usual car manufacturer marketing person's "Our cars are the best cars, buy them!"

      +Blake Swan I've watched his informative presentations ever since Skyactiv came out a few years ago. The only issue is his "speech disfluency", saying a lot of "huh", "uh", "erm", "um". But looks like the cold weather seems to help with that, and also me watching on 1.5 speed ;)

    This is the reason why I love Mazda! They love their cars and you can see how passionate they are with their product and the attention to detail they put into their product. They have some of the best designed cars in the market (Mazda 6 & this one esp.) and their driving dynamics is unparalleled. Even though they are smaller in size, in terms of quality and end product, they are in a class of their own.

    Mazda knows how to engineer cars that drivers want. It sold me how he explained about the engine cooler makes fuel efficient in real world and not on paper. Mazda is so underrated. Mazda makes cars fun to drive, simple design yet elegant, affordable, good fuel economy. I hope they do better because their passion in making cars are what most manufactures lacks.

      Totally agree with you. We test drove a CX5. Still had other vehicles on our list to test drive for the day. While waiting for the salesperson to grab us a business card the manager came out for the hard sell. We dropped the CX5 from our list immediately. It's not the 80's. The hard sell is an immediate turn off.

      +Jonathan Washington It is sad. The nearest Mazda dealer for me is like an hour's drive on the interstate away and the one time I was able to visit it was getting too dark to look at the cars. They were a professional bunch for a car dealer though by following up with me all without being pushy. Too bad I can't say the same about the other ubiquitous brands dealers.

      +supernova1976 That is how all cars are. My car has a large strip of real aluminum that spans the dash, but if you go to the parts department, it's 2 pieces. A large plastic strip in that shape and a real aluminum sticker the thickness of a piece of paper.
      On the other hand it would just be heavy and expensive to carve these parts out of a block of wood or aluminum.

    owned a 2017 cx-9 GT for about 6 months and due to an unfortunate, faultless collision, i now own a 2019 GT. have to say that mazda nailed the engine in this generation and specifically the transmission on the 2019. so responsive and excellent power in the low rpm range. the fuel mileage is *insanity*. regularly getting low 8L/100km on longer drives and have even gotten as good as 7.5L/100km, verified with trip odometer/gas receipt math which shows the built-in "fuel economy" app is quite honest. this is my wife's daily driver. she is coming from a 2013 honda fit sport and this 4000lb+ monster is doing better on highway cruises, even on winter rubber. absolutely astounding.

      +AChopra I think they'll do a whole new setup for the new Speed3/ Speed6, not this exact configuration. Sports cars must be at least a little revvy. This means some new internals, new turbos, new tune. Skyactiv philosophy means "purpose built from the ground up". So they'll probably pick up the basic Skyactive 2.5 N/A block again and go from there.

    ZOOM ZOOM! I love what Mazda has been doing as of late.
    First of all, I finally listen to a company guy that actually knows his stuff, explains it properly, PLUS is so enthusiastic about his product. Ford, Nissan, Audi, even BMW, YOU HAVE A LOT to LEARN from this guy. Your stiffy walking PR recorders simply don't cut it.
    Second, we urgently, desperately, need this engine in the 6 and or the 3!!! Beef it up to 250-280 and you'll put back the Z into the OOM, which has gone missing for a few years now. I am talking in Mexico which actually has a huge follower base for Mazda.
    I have not bought a new Mazda cause it's performance is simply not up to par with the car's suspension, feel, design and expectations. Give me 280 hp, I am game!
    Third, thanks TFL (again) i love your vids!

  • @elusivellama
    @elusivellama 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay, **THIS** is why I love Mazda. Look at the amount of attention to detail that has been lavished all over the car inside and out. The overall look is very tightly integrated, cohesive, premium (almost luxurious) and simple - no fiddly touchscreens to mess with. These top notch explanations for the engine and drivetrain can only come from someone as knowledgeable as Dave Coleman, aka the Mazda god and father of the Mazdaspeed lineup.
    Speaking of Mazdaspeed.... Mazda, PLEASE get cracking on some details about the next Mazdaspeed 3. Is it going to have an AWD system? There is certainly room for it. Will it have a 2.0 or 2.5L turbo engine, how much power, what does it look like, etc??? My 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 is still serving me well and drives beautifully, and it is plenty fast. The thought of replacing this with an upgraded version with more power, more premium stuff, more technology, better styling inside and out, better fuel economy is a nice one. Come on Mazda!

  • @quadpit

    I agree with many comments here the Mazda rep is very good and has the rare ability to know what he is talking about and give a simple explanation of a mechanical process. Although the CX9 is too large for my needs I wish this motor was in the CX5 or CX3 as that would be a sweet ride.

    I've test drove pretty much every 3-row suv in the last couple of weeks,
    CX-9 Pro's: looks awesome and fun to drive around town compared to the other 3-row suv's, great gas mileage, heads up display (HUD), moving headlights
    Con's: the seats are a bit narrow but they're not uncomfortable like the Honda Pilot, you can't see the HUD if you're a taller driver, bad 3rd headroom and legroom, smallest cargo space behind the 3rd row in the class, noticeable turbo lag, power is not uniform after the turbo kicks in - it's like this: you put you foot in it.... turbo lag then surge of power ... then that power dies away - this makes it a great stop light/stop sign racer in the city, for the price worst towing capacity: not a big deal if you just going to pull some atvs or jet skis but a bigger boat or camper is out of the question

      +everythingdiy Never going to happen at least for the next few years! They probably have only one engine plant for this new engine and Mazda want to sell 50K CX-9 a year! Plus, it would hurt sales of the other models if they had the MazdaSpeed 3 or 6!

      Justin C Why would Mazda release a new MazdaSpeed 3? If they do that; Mazda would face pressure to also release a MazdaSpeed 6 too! Not going happen! The "Zoom, Zoom" is slogan is rumor to come from previous advertising firm, which they fired; not the Mazda management! I think Mazda want the image of a performance brand but like Honda not put it out!

    Mazda's love for longer-looking hoods on their more recent vehicles works beautifully on this 💕 The 6 is another gorgeous example. Plus the interior is stunning without being overdone, and the head and tail lights are smaller which is refreshing and appealing to me. I really wish this engine would be available for the Mazda 3 or 6. The interior of the CX 9 looks stunning.

      @Josh-179 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This engine tuned the way it is for CX-9 wouldn't work well in a sedan. They'd have to throw all that out and make a new turbo setup tuned for HP rather than torque for Mazda6. It would then work for a Speed3 but Mazda isn't going to do that with the 3. They should really thing about having 2 turbo setups in house, one for CUV's and one for sedans in the near future. Hopefully implemented for the next gen 6. Still, how many people buy V6 Camry's and Accord's? A small percentage. Everyone on the internet asks for the biggest, most powerful engines and then when it comes to sales, the more sensible engine actually sells.

    If you watch this sort of Video all other manufacturerers have some PR guy sitting in there that only talks down his talking points , this guy not only knows his stuff he actualy makes me trust what he said about the engine consumption !
    This guy should get a raise ^^ !

    Just listening to this guy, his knowledge and confidence, makes me want to shake his hand and buy this car. I miss working at Mazda so much, I wish I never left. I know this is an exceptional vehicle, but Mazda won't sell very many, I know that. Very curious to see how MPG plays in the real world. TFL, you HAVE to do an MPG run on this thing when you have one!!!

      +Eric Uh Mazdas and Audis do seem to come from similar design themes. But, the Q7 interior is definitely much different than this CX-9

    • @ZealofSparta
      @ZealofSparta 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eric Uh There are some similarities with packaging and layout but that's mostly it. The vents, screen, temp dials, etc. are there but the nuance is in the other ball field altogether with the trimming, cup holders, paneling, and so on. I think the Audi looks more techno and the Mazda is more contemporary.

      The Audi Q7 new interior is so ugly and so different Mazda in the design wins for sure

    Love mazdas but all of their models need the following
    1) Turbo Charged Sky Active like in the new CX 9 (would love to see even more power but this is a good start).
    2) Power tailgate.
    3) Heated Steering wheel + Heated (already have the heated seats) and COOLED Seats.
    4) Arroundview backup camera.
    5) Panoramic Sunroof

      Mjs S, Honda's two most important best selling models are now exclusively turbo - Accord and CR-V. Would a company most known for reliability and longevity use only turbos if they weren't going to last? This isn't the '80's.

    We just got a new 6 wagon and totally love it. It's not perfect but for the money it's awesome. Will get one of these in a couple of years. I sat in a top spec model in the dealership not knowing anything about them and was totally blown away. It was as nice as the German SUV's.....but cheaper and more reliable not doubt

    While i agree people tend to focus on HP solely as a indicating factor of performance. Though i must say im a bit surprised they were not able to get at least 265 out of this power plant. They were able to get 263 from the old powerplant and it had a smaller displacement.

    This must be the most informative video I've seen. Well done The Fast Lane and well done for the guy from Mazda! Wish there were more videos like these. I bumped into this by accident because I am actually holding off from buying a car until the new Mazda CX-4/6 based on the Koeru concept is released but I already wanted to learn a bit about the latest Mazda tech. I live in China and as some of you may have found out on the Internet, the CX-4/6 seems to be ready for production and has already been spotted undisguised in a factory here. So I kind of cheated and talked to our local dealership saying that I will either buy a car from another brand or wait for the CX-4/6. So I managed to get some inside information. They said that they will actually have a model in their showroom in April and will start to sell in June. So this indicates that the car will probably be presented in Geneva in March or Beijing in April.

    How come, whenever it's freezing the balls off a brass monkey and there's snow up to your undercarriage, it's Nathan whose getting the job done❓I'll tell you why, because the guy is a goddamned hero and always gets the job done. He's a living, breathing legend. His only fault is, he isn't English‼️😎👏🏻👍🏼💪🏻🇬🇧

    Assuming with the EGR cooling, there's a filter? Also is there's multi-injection?
    Gunky intake were a problem in MS6 engines with EGR and direct-injection.

    if I needed the room I'd have waited but I didn't so got the 2016 cx5, I think I'm the only person in florida who bought an awd gt 2.5 with heated seats and all the whistles but had to have it.... found that without the port on it feels a little tame and it it on feels a little peak at 40 mph, but hy, it's safe, it's cool, love the two tone wheels and when I find bends , because there's no hills, then she's a little darling when kept on the boil.

    EGR tends to gum up the intake valves in a DI engine which Skyactiv IS. If Mazda did not address the particulate in the exhaust before routing the gas back through intake valve, what happens is you lose 20-30% of the power over 20-40k miles. Just google "walnut blasting intake valves" as many DI engine owners had resorted to.

    This is probably my second comment ever on youtube, and I just want to say that guy (Dave Coleman) knows his stuff. I expected to hear some rehearsed verbiage from a brochure, but he was breathing this stuff, just excellent. He should quit Mazda and start a youtube channel!
