I've never used a drill before let alone use wall plugs and was completely lost, found your video this morning and I've managed to put up 3 shelves on a brick wall! Thank you so much for the informative video it was really easy to understand and follow :)
Just wanted to say thanks here. Some really nice tips which I used today with some confidence after watching this video. A tradesman 'friend' I have seems to think hiding these sort of things from non-trade folks like me increases his worth in his profession (he's not very good). He constantly and annoyingly talks down to others and boasts he's got 'life experience' that I will never have. So again, thanks for sharing whatever skills you have. We need folks like you.
No problem, that's why I do it. Most things aren't difficult, they just require some basic knowledge, the right tools and the right application. Glad to have helped. Best of luck with the DIY and thanks for watching.
That's the typical attitude that auto mechanics have in our part of the world. They would be ready to repair your vehicle but would find ways of avoiding answering questions about the problem itself so that the next time the vehicle has a similar problem, the vehicle owner will not resort to any self-help and instead will depend on the mechanic.

My grandpa (who always loved to fix things for me) died and i got no clue how to install these on my walls. It was supposed to be our last project together. Thanks a lot for this video, now I know how and I think I’m making him proud here.
Thank you soooooooooooo much for making this seem so easy. I have ADHD, so I usually get lost in instructions, you made this so easy for me to understand. Thank you x
Incredibly informative. Being sent to a job tomorrow to mount some fire extinguishers to a wall so I need to drill into cinder block to mount the bracket. I was unsure on what size bits to use but you explained this fully in a really simple way. Thank you very much.

I checked your video a little over a month ago as we were about to move house. And I told myself, if these tips work, ESPECIALLY THE INGENIOUS ENVELOPE hack I'd come back to say thank you. Here it is -->> THANK YOU.
Me and my partner recently bought our first ever house and wanted to do DIY stuff at home. I didn't know how to do wall plugs until i saw this video. Very well done and thorough! Thanks a bunch!
Thank you for this video - I found it so helpful. I've always done a botch job fixing anything to the wall, but I watched your video and actually did a really good job fixing some Ikea shoe racks in my hallway. The chart is really handy too, as was the smaller drill bit tip. I'm itching to put up more stuff now that I know I can do a decent job. Great video.
Thanks a lot. Finally understood the relation between the colours of the wall plugs and the drill bit size. Just put up hooks for the wife in the kitchen. I'm a little wiser today :) thanks to you.
Oh my goodness, THANK YOU! I’ve been searching for an instruction video for this specific type of plug for a while and all I kept seeing, were for dry wall anchors/plugs with lips! I assumed by the lack of lip, they’d be installed differently. You’re the best! I’m off to put up this rack now.

I had 8 holes on my wall when my husband was trying to hang a dustbuster… 3 hours later it STILL wasn’t up! So i now have 3 pictures up to hide the holes that my super handy husband made, and my dust buster plugged in on the floor in a cupboard!! 🤨🤦🏽♀️😩 thank you for showing ME how to do this!🙌🏽🙏🏽😂❤️

I have to hang curtain rods, and I have never drilled a wall in my life X'D Thank you so much! I even need to order a drill so, brand reccomendations helped!
My tip is for red plugs don't use 6mm bit use a 5.5mm you'll find you can't just push the plug in but give the 5mm screw a couple turns in the plug and knock the plug into the hole with an hammer, then unscrew, this way you'll get a much better more solid fixture.
Wow, worked right away! Thank you so much for showing us how to use wall plugs. Even in my less than ideal wall it works so much better than before. Game changer.
Thanks so much for this! I’m going to need to hang a cabinet soon and will have to drill my first holes in a wall that will actually bear a sizeable load! I’ve struggled so much with finding out simple pieces of info like how to know what type of plug to get or what the numbers on a box of screws even mean but you’ve made it really clear :) I feel a lot more confident now!

Now I knew about all of this but I'm trying to drill into Masonart but there appears to be a metal beam where I'm drilling. Not sure if it's because it's a really old building or because it's above double glazing. I tried a small HSS industrial drill bit but nothing. So I may have to try glue/bond a wood strip to the wall so I can hand real wood blinds. Any other suggestions?
It might be reinforced steel rods inside a concrete lintel above your window. HSS is the right idea. If your drill bit gets to hot it can melt the tip so might be worth dipping your drill bit into water every few seconds. If there's a chance it isn't metal and just tough concrete, have you tried an sds drill? This might drive the drill bit through. Best of luck.
Hi Pouse, wouldn't you check to make sure there were no pipes or electrical cables where you were drilling and if so how would you do that? Also, I have noted with some fixings that the screw is longer than the wall plug. Is there a reason for that and is it a better method to get a secure fixing?
Hi again, yes you should check for cables and pipes. If it's a brick wall it's unlikely to have pipes in it but if it's hollow then cut a bit out of the wood or plasterboard to check, but then you wouldn't be using these plugs in that scenario. If you have any sockets or switches, cables should always run in line with them either from left to right or top to bottom so check that. That is still no guarantee as someone may have done some dodgy electrics in the past, so the only other way is to buy a tester. You run it over the wall and it beeps or lights up when a cable is located beneath it. Failing that, just drill very slowly and be careful. If you have an RCD protected circuit on your consumer unit (fuse board) then the fuse will trip if you hit a live cable, but I wouldn't recommend that as a way to test! As for the longer screw, usually the item you want to screw to the wall will have a particular thickness so the screw needs a bit of extra length to go through the item you are screwing to the wall. If in doubt, drill the hole the length of the screw. Hope that helps. Good luck with it and thanks for watching!
No but if you want the tip of the drill bit to be same width as base of plug pretty much. Hope that helps. I have another video how to fix to plasterboard which may be useful.
Good video. It covered all the mysteries of plug, drill, screw combinations. Pilot hole is a game changer. Any reviews on hidden cable, pipe locators ?
Personally I’d make sure the drill is below or level with my shoulder and I’m higher looking down at where I’m drilling ( higher step ladders ), nice job 👍

What will I do if the hole that I made was a bit larger than the plastic anchor.?do I need to put in white cement inside? Thanks
Use a bigger plug and screw. Thanks for watching.
Good video. It covered all the mysteries of plug, drill, screw combinations. Pilot hole is a game changer. Any reviews on hidden cable, pipe locators ?
No reviews on that sorry Douglas but maybe a vid for the future! Thanks for the feedback.
Brilliantly explained 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback.
Personally I’d make sure the drill is below or level with my shoulder and I’m higher looking down at where I’m drilling ( higher step ladders ), nice job 👍
Thanks for the feedback!

When you go back in with the bigger drill bit, do you continue on the hammer setting?
Yes if the wall is tough. Hope that helps. Best of luck with your projects.
