Yeah, they haven't been taking risks with their franchises...like a M rated Famicom Detective Club or bringing that franchise back from the Famicom era, or creating whole new standards in RPGs and storytelling with the Xenoblade series, or bringing back Metroid Dread as a project from the DS era, vastly expanding the scope of Fire Emblem games, taking risks on new IPs like Astral Chain and Snipperclips, making a full modern remake of the niche Another Code games, wildly changed the 2D Mario formula with Wonder, they haven't done any of that and are just creatively bankrupt.

fr what are these people smoking, I swear so many other companies are actually struggling with creativity, but out of all the flaws Nintendo has as a company and their business decisions, creativity definitely isn't one. (Also I saw a comment calling Splatoon "crazy nonsense" which is INSANE, that is a perfect example of creativity)

Fire Emblem Awakening was already a risk being taken because if that game bombed then the series would’ve been shelved, Advance Wars Reboot Camp was another risk too but the hype for it was ruined by delays, and the 3D graphics didn’t really sit well with everyone compared to the timeless 2D pixel GBA graphics.

@badlatency9979 the crazy thing is the guy making the video even mentions Ring Fit Adventure, Snipperclips ect.. but then says it's not creative because he's not interested in it, as if creativity only boils down to what he is personally interested in and nothing else. Guy mentions Chibi Robot about a million times.. my guy just play that game then lool.

At long last we've seen a proper return to form when it comes to Mario RPGs during the later Switch era. In my opinion a lot of Nintendo's big flag ship IPs such as, Zelda, Mario, Kirby, etc. have evolved (though TOTK has received mixed/polarizing reception from fans) over the entirety of the Switch generation. The only franchise from Nintendo that has really stagnated during this time to me, is Pokemon and the Mario sports titles feeling lackluster and bare bones when it comes to content. I'm not saying that the whole switch era has been completely perfect, but I feel things are much better now then what they were say back in 2015-2016.

You do loads more in Echoes of Wisdom than "summon furniture" it is easily one of the most creative and risk taking titles in years. Your complete disregard for it and just wanting a remake of Oracle of Seasons/Ages without probabaly every trying it is the exact reason developers mainly play it safe.

No offense, but I completely disagree I think Mario Odyssey captured mechanic is probably one of the most unique things I’ve seen from gaming having the ability to possess stuff in a platform is pretty I think echoes of wisdom has a really cool building mechanic that’s done unique way way and I think Nintendo combining the Fitness and RPG genre with Ring fit adventure was really cool. Also, you kinda have to think of The game industry as a whole right now lots of games are becoming boring and generic, and Nintendo is still holding on to that creativity. I think if you look at the basic mechanics of every modern Nintendo game, you can see a little bit of that charm. Also, Mario wonder dude that changed the 2-D platformer forever and made Mario games more adventurous again good video, but I disagree with the premise

Before I voice my criticism on modern Nintendo games, I do want to point out that Japan's economy is really bad right now, and companies need to do what they can to jack up the price and be financially safe with games. Sad but understandable strategy. But man, I do miss the period of time where Nintendo keep making amazing innovative games. People keep shitting on the Wii U, but it unironically has more exclusive games than the PS5 exclusives. And the 3DS was incredibly innovative with games, such as A Link Between Worlds, Streetpass, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Bravely Default, SMT 4, Persona Q, Kid Icarus Uprising.
Nintendo switch games have very good games, but the majority of games just follow the same ideas from previous game, Breath of the Wild is technically from the Wii U creative era, an era where they were still trying to be creative. Splatoon 2 was amazing but Splatoon 3 gameplay wise is just more splatoon2. I do love the constant new music and unique splatfests. Kirby just went from Robobot, their most innovative 2D Kirby game, to piss easy unoriginal Kirby Star Allies. And the biggest disapointment is Pokemon mainline games and the lack of GOOD Pokemon spinoff games. To give Nintendo some credit, I like what they did with oragami king, fire emblem three house, Kirby Forgotten Land, Ring Fit, Metroid Dread, and the huge marketing push for newer IPs like Splatoon/Pikmin.
But yeah I do miss the 3DS era and the Gamecube era, where there is a lot more innovative games. It just sucks that the Japan economy is so bad that they think they have to play it safe. Pokemon has no excuse though

    • @mek2472
      @mek2472 หลายเดือนก่อน

Honestly. I feel like they should keep pushing on releasing new ips or underutilized IPs cuz it’s obvious they are having a better time doing it. Ips like pikmin, earthbound(if itoi wants to make another mother game cuz HE is the only one who can write the mother series for me. I love the passion he puts into the games and it’s evident that it wouldn’t be the same without them), kid ircaus(THIS SERIES HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL), and metorid(it’s obvious that this is the series that doesn’t sell well but Nintendo puts PASSION into this series which is why I’m happy they keep on making metorid games although it’s not consistent)
I feel like they are still creative just less of the gimmicky type of creative i adored during the wii u era(could be nostalgia since i was a kid during the wii u era) i feel like nintendo shouldn’t stray away from using some of the ideas they had during the wii u era but it’s clear they are abit embarrassed by it(not to the point they don’t rerelease wii u games)
I feel like it’s evident they had to do more unique things with the 3ds cuz of the sales and because of it being a sequel to a console causing potential consumers to be suspicious of it.
I may not like pokemon this era but i will say pokemon was atleast innovative during the last 2 games which I can’t say for the series during the ds and (atleast early 3ds) era. I love the 3ds pokemon games and I’m actually playing them this year for the first time and it’s been a blast after playing those horribly made games.

The real reason Nintendo feels less creativity now is more of an overcorrection from the massive failure of the Wii U. So they played most of the gen playing it safe with a lot of Mario and Zelda titles. As for their new IPs not being as awe-inspiring, I think that comes down to their talent not being nearly as outside-the-box thinking as some of their old guys with few exceptions like the Splatoon makers. Hopefully Switch 2 gives these game creators more room to show their stuff.

I think part of it is the way this generation has gone on longer than usual.
The pattern ive personally noticed with nintendo consoles is that the console comes out with some kind of gimmick, then all the mainline games have a new title that at least acknowledges it, if not fully embraces it. Usually doing something new and innovative. But as it goes on, the gimmicks become less of a focus and you get sequels to those titles that are more traditional, plus occasional spinoffs.
6:26 not this generation but if you dont count the WiiU, Splatoon clearly fits.
6:40 arms came out at that weird time when nintendo thought that live service games where worth a try. Arms unfortunately was one of those. I think if Arms had come out with all of its content then people would think its better than it is. I do have a lot of fond memories with the game but it is far from my top 10.
9:49 They are similar but ultrahand makes the game entirely different, if nothing else due to how you can travel around.
10:50 from what I hear the rumor for the next console is the USB C port up top; I.E. this will be an accessory focused console. I bet nintendo is going to get really wacky with this next console, potentially having peripherals for specific games, which only work with that game. Expensive gimmick? Yes. But fun? Also yes.

I haven't played nearly enough games to have an informed opinion here but I think Nintendo is being somewhat more safe than they used to. TotK is an interesting study because it added mechanics that no one would expect from a Zelda game but at the same time it was 90% just BotW again. They have also been doing re-releases of many Wii U games and remasters of old games which is definitely not creative. But they also made Mario Wonder which was a very creative 2D Mario.
In the end it's a matter of opinion, largely informed by what games you've played before. Everything in BotW was new to me but it was also my first open-world game. So I think we should respect each others opinions and be nice to each other even if we disagree. There is no right or wrong here, it's all just different perspectives.

The last big single-player IP was what, Xenoblade? And even that is really an extension of Xenogears and Xenosaga.

One thing to note is that, while yes, Nintendo is only making games for 1 console now, they have not actually produced nearly as many games on the Switch as their other consoles at the same relative time as other home consoles alone. Even the Wii U got more new games made for it for each year it was alive than the Switch did for it's equivalent first 4 years. The Switch only feels like a lot because so many people skipped the Wii U and the ports from that console and the occasional remaster effectively padded out the Switch's library. The Switch is also home to some of the worst entries for many of its keynote franchises. Animal Crossing has some great features with building out your island, but the overall content is far less than New Leaf or City Folk. Smash Ultimate was missing a lot of single player modes at launch and still isn't as comprehensive as some past games despite the large new "story" mode that has less variety than other story modes because it's just battles, all the Mario Sports games are their worst or second worst iterations, Super Mario Party was barely an improvement from 10 and the content in it and Superstars was far less than past games, even for the Scale of BotW and TotK, they both feel very empty with little valuable content for their size compared to the depth of puzzles in prior games and the relatively consistent delivery of missions, combat challenges, and unlockables. Mario Odyssey did well overall, for the most part, but so many of the new entries just don't compare. Even the spin offs. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity has far less content than the pre-DLC original from Wii U (though it's still a lot because it's a Warriors game, just not thousand of hours worth like the original, losing basically all the side content modes).
Outside of Pikmin 4, which is a more recent game, I challenge anyone to find an entry in a series that hasn't, in some way, had less content than average for the series, especially from the first 4 years of the consoles life

@@Squidveemo if you look back at solely new releases and remove the rereleased from Wii U, then you'll find that to not be the case and the Switch was on par, at best, for the same active years. Not saying the on par releases weren't overall better, they were certainly more streamlined, but I also think Nintendo did some of their worst work on the Wii U. I'm just comparing Wii U in terms of output. It certainly is nowhere near Wii U + 3DS levels of output despite going down to 1 console. Though it did improve around 2021, after 3DS development fully ended, but it still doesn't match the peak of releases they had when producing for 2 consoles. That's just an argument of quantity though. Still, quality, they're streamlined and modernized in a lot of ways, but that isn't all for the better. Like with Mario Party games just plain having many less boards than they used to, for example

@@saintlugia 3 houses both had more and less. The monetary stuff was new, but it dropped the dungeon crawling from Echoes, the fort building from Fates, and didn't have nearly as many chapters as Awakening did with all its paralogues, though it was more ambitious with its story, mostly delivering but somewhat just shy of greatness for a few of the routes. Xenoblade 2 also had much less content than 1 or X did at launch. It got more with updates, but the others had far more numerous quests and stuff pre updates. Smash also had more characters but had far less single player content. They basically just took themed battled and replaced the single player with that. Both Melee and Brawl outshined it. Though I will take the multi-character battles over Smash Tour any day. It also removed custom moves and Smash Run though, and those are tremendous losses. So everyone came back, but at a cost.
That said, notice all 3 of those games are made by studios Nintendo owns or partners with, they aren't actually Nintendo's main studios. Though I think of the sports games a lot when I think of this and those aren't either, so that really isn't an argument on my side.
Splatoon 2 I will give you, that one did have more at launch that Splatoon 1 had at launch. I still prefer Miiverse of the in-game only drawing mechanic, but yes, I give Splatoon 2 a clean win over Splatoon 1, so that's a good pick

You recognize Nintendo got absolutely creamed with the Gamecube right? Nintendo gets punished for standing too far outside the lines. With the N64 Nintendo went against the grain by going with cartridges, fact is games like Ocarina of Time would not be able to run on CD due to data transfer constraints, but Nintendo got massacred by the OG Sony PS for that decision.
The Gamecube then comes along and chooses to do Mini-DVD disc which went against the grain of the industry making "multi-media devices" and making a pure console. The got creamed by the PS2 because the console itself looked too childish, Mario is played out, "Celda," Chibi Robo who? not to mention the complete ignoring of Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness by the "mature" gaming base then.
Fact is Nintendo is knows it has to stay in a range of acceptability in order to be successful. Every so often you will see a Emio or a Recollection: Another Code but, Nintendo is a business and failing at sales just to prove you are creative is beyond arrogant. Lastly BOTW / TOTK is the innovation on Classic Zelda, never forget the real OG was TLOZ (1986) not OOT (1998).

So you are blaming Nintendo for doing remake and remasters with games that most were developed before modern standardization took hold of console hardware architecture? Moreover as that bin of DVDs for 1$ that remains at Walmart to this day can attest to; absence makes the heart grow fonder. Keeping game eternally available seems like a good idea, but in actual practice no one values anything that is too available. If all of Nintendo's backlog stayed eternally available going back to the Color TV-Game no one would be interested in playing them.

The point of being able to summon the objects you find in the world is so that you are able to do stuff anyway you want. This is how nintendo has been changing zelda on the switch. It feels like all you do is be nostalgia blind and pass your opinions off as facts. The difficulty in making a game like totk where everything works together so that the player has essentially infinite possibilities is insane but you just complain about it without trying to see the good in it. If you look for only reasons to hate something, of course you'll end up finding a lot of things to hate. How about just play the game and don't look for reasons to complain.
