  • Jon Buehler, a former detective on the Scott Peterson case, and Lara Yeretsian, Peterson's former defense attorney, join NewsNation's "Dan Abrams Live" to discuss a judge's decision to allow new DNA testing on one of the 14 pieces of evidence in the case. The judge rejected most of the defense's requests, determining the analyses were unlikely to exonerate Peterson.

      Scott was convicted for being a lying cheating a hole of a husband. The Modesto PD sealed his fate the moment they allowed his mistress to hold a press conference further tainting a future jury. Which btw had never been done by law enforcement anywhere at the time or since then. There is no evidence that shows he's responsible. Do people realize that he was seen at the Berkeley Marina. Who dumps a body in broad daylight? If you saw the boat he launched you would understand right away how absurd the whole thing is. I'm open minded and if anyone has something of substance that can show he actually killed his wife please reply

      You’re probably right, but if new technology allows for a better analysis today than we had in the early 2000s then we should absolutely retest evidence, as long as it’s been preserved. This is why circumstantial evidence is secondary. The courts should always be focused on, and improving our ability, to acquire the facts.

The only time a reaction like that would be common is if you’re dealing with a parent who lost their child to a terminal illness and they knew it was coming. But for a parent to get news that their child has died suddenly, it’s rare that someone would be sitting there acting like they were at a comedy club. All of Scott's appeals after that centered on this burglary which was repeatedly denied by judges. All they were asking for was Discovery and so is the Innocence program. What is the big secret about this burglary or home invasion and why is it such a secret. Also he was heading north to his parents house not South to Mexico take a look at the map. Also you talked about a lot of evidence there was no evidence only a prosecutor's Theory. California is number two in the country for exonerated convicts. If there's a chance that this is relevant it should be looked into. I do not know whether Peterson is guilty or not because I was not there. But I believe everyone is entitled to a fair trial and proper discovery. Prosecutorial misconduct is the biggest reason for exonerations. And they have qualified immunity so we can't touch them when we catch them.

      @vanessadebrino7231 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have done the same as you and have read everything in this case A-Z. However I'm on the other side of it and believe he is innocent. The people interviewed for the burglary were never cleared and that's the extent of it. Law Enforcement announced to the public where Scott was on the day of Lacy's disappearance. Her and the baby both washed up on shore four months later. They were separated a good distance from each other and about 2 miles from where Scott was fishing. Not very close at all and in an area with easy access. If you were responsible and paying attention to the case you would not only have the perfect scapegoat but also the perfect location to frame Scott. I never heard of Lacy's DNA found on tbe tarp or ropes so let me know where you learned that. I know they found a hair consistent with one of Lacy's. One person claimed they smelled bleach at the Peterson house and that was Al Brochini who was discredited during the trial. And Scott was in San Diego where his parents lived. He dyed his hair to avoid the paparazzi and news outlets who were constantly following him. There is actually no evidence whatsoever that ties Scott to Lacy's murder. Zero. And the circumstantial evidence is weak. Scott was a lying cheating scumbag its true but let's not forget he had become the most hated man in America before Lacy's body ever surfaced. That was because of the media. To give you just one example of how insane this thing was the Modesto police department held a press conference telling the press they were going to update them on the case. So every media outlet both local, national, and I internationally shows up at the scheduled time for the scoop. What happens next ? Amber Frey waltzes to the podium and delivers a scathing statement announcing to the whole world, literally, that she is Scott's mistress and that she was lied to and for good measure offers thoughts and prayers for the missing wife of the man she's banging. NEVER in the history of Law Enforcement/ True Crime has that ever happened nor has it ever happened since. That one, very crucial and unprofessional moment in the case completely obliterated any chance Scott could ever have a fair trial. From that moment his fate was sealed. Remember Lacy's family was supportive of Scott and staunchly defending him. After the Amber press conference they quickly withdrew that support.

      It's not THE Innocence Project, it's The Los Angeles Innocence Project.... different entity and I'm sure The Innocence Project is tired of the misunderstanding impacting work on real cases deserving of their focus.

      They aren't. This is being done by The Los Angeles Innocence Project which is not the same organization although it sounds like an affiliate. I'm sure THE Innocence Project is frustrated by this as much as we are.

    So burglars killed Lacy and instead of fleeing, they kept her body, risking all kinds of jeopardy, then drive her an hour and 1/2 away to dispose of her body.
    They would have left her body where she was killed.

    • @ReneeFabulous-wt9ty
      @ReneeFabulous-wt9ty 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah. They kept her body on the hopes of finding out where her husband was that day, just to plant her body wherever that was. Neither burglar owned a car, or boat, but that was their plan. Sounds totally reasonable. Not!

    The fact that Scott claimed to go fishing, on Christmas eve in bad weather, hours away from home and then the bodies were found there is not coincidental. He didnt have the right type of boat or fishing equipment.
    This defense lawyer trying to say she was kidnapped and dumped in the bay by robbers doesnt make sense. They were not criminal masterminds and they would have had to keep her body hidden for long enough for Scott's fish tale to come out and for them to take the body, weigh it down and get it out into the bay. Did they have access to a boat?? I doubt it.

      @Solitude47152 you think it's believable for them to take her dead body in the hopes that they would find out where her husband had been that day? If they wanted to frame Scott, they'd have put her body in the Petersons back yard. Not keep it til they found out where Scott was. That's just ridiculous.
