Welcome to my channel. I'm so glad you're here. ☺️
I'm Kristen Cain... The Simple Stylist. I'm a style and mindset coach sharing how simplicity in your wardrobe makes it easier to get dressed and look amazing.
How do you handle weight fluctuations and size shifts when it comes to getting dressed? Many women punish themselves when their clothing doesn't fit their 'today' body. Our bodies are meant to change. Continuously. For our entire lives. Nothing has gone wrong. Let's chat about making style easy as your weight fluctuates.
Incredible personal style starts with your THOUGHTS. Having thoughts that support the results you want to create with your style makes all the difference. A single limiting belief can prevent you from having (and wearing) a wardrobe you adore!
I always love reading your comments and really try to reply to every single one. Thanks for your patience with my response time. 💕
    xx Kristen

I've come to terms that jeans aren't as comfy anymore at 71. I finally ordered a pair of tencel cargo pants from Banana Republic Factory and they are not only cute, they fit and are comfy. I just now ordered two more colors. Time to consign or donate my jeans that are great but not working for me anymore.
Believe it or not, every time I watch your videos, I make good decisions.😘

    One of your best videos!!!
I lost my hair due to chemo in 2021 at age 49-50. Always dyed it a beautiful reddish brown. I started going gray at age 20. I didn’t know what color my hair was under the hair dye. lol My hair grew back salt and pepper with areas of pure white. My hair does not have any yellow at all. 👍🏻👍🏻I decided to keep the gray hair and I really like it - but it was a huge adjustment!!! The general public thinks most patients lose weight during chemo - the opposite is true. We gain weight due to steroids taken with chemo. So I gained some weight in 2021 and lost some weight in 2023. My sister says I look like a totally different person from a few years ago. Many things can cause body changes!!! Starting in 2023, I really started trying to dress better and find my style. Still working on it - very happy with the changes I have made so far!!
    Really enjoy your channel!!

After I had baby number five I just could not get back to my previous weight and did not like my new bigger look. My wonderful hubby gave me money and sent me,shopping to buy things that fit me and made me feel good about myself. I did that and felt so good about myself that I started exercising and eating better and the weight just fell off. I never did wear those clothes again. 🥰

Five babies! That will definitely change things!! What a lovely gift from your husband. Sometimes it's about the permission we give ourselves and the changes that follow. 🥰

Thank you! With your help and tips I was able to quickly (two days) go through my closet and remove three bins of clothes. Everything remaining are pieces I fit in *now* and feel good in (love your phrase ‘lit up’).

I am on a weigh loss journey over the last year. I have a lot of investment piece workwear, tailored suits, wool coats, so much, and now none of it fits. Wonderful and frustrating. My size has changed from a 20 or more to a 16 and still losing. I cannot repurchase a new wardrobe at every size. I feel like I no longer have what Allison bornstein calls ‘the regulars’. I’d love more content on how to navigate this journey in wardrobe and body transformation. Thanks for making this content. It’s a refreshing approach to being mindful and intention about our style and those inner voices. Thank you for helping decouple our worth from how things fit and our ever changing bodies.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I will definitely address this in an upcoming video. I think it could be helpful to find a few 'regulars' that you can purchase easily and affordably at every size as your body changes. Pants or jeans or skirts + t-shirts or blouses + a forgiving third layer that can be worn at several sizes. Be willing to accept a more restricted capsule until you feel comfortable purchasing new clothes for your new size. 🥰

All excellent points and advice, Kristen. I just happened upon your channel while looking for closet organization tips. One point I did I not hear you speak of that has been a problem I’ve encountered is the plethora of TH-cam influencers confusing women by telling them what pieces are in or out of style for particular ages, shapes and sizes. We’re searching for answers to not only look our best but also to feel better about ourselves! I’ve found my closet swelling to over capacity and now I’m having to figure out what to keep and what to let go. Thank you for giving me clarity.

Hello, Sharon- Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. I just put that 'problem' on my list for upcoming videos. I agree!! It can be SO confusing to know what to keep and how to wear it, and what to edit out. Happy to chat about that soon! Stay tuned... And thanks for being here. 🩵

It helps me to listen to you because it makes me think why I do some things. While I don’t need help with the clothes, making choices, etc., we probably all do some things we’d be better off not doing. I worked in retail for over 3 decades and have beautiful clothes that are still as wearable today as they were the day I bought them. I always had too many, but I had plenty of space. Now I don’t. I have downsized with every move and even in between. But I still have some and don’t wear them. Most fit, some don’t. But every time I get rid of some, it feels like some part of me is gone and if I didn’t have any left I, myself, would disappear. My identity is too tied up in my “things” as a reminder of my life. Today I only have maybe 5 people in the world who have known me most of my life, other than my “things”. I wish I could just fill a suitcase and keep nothing else, but then I’d feel invisible. Probably crazy.

Oh, this is such an honest share. Thank you. This idea is not crazy. I will coach on the topic in an upcoming video. You're not alone. I've had several clients who fear losing their previous identity if they edit their wardrobes. For now, I'll offer... what could be possible for you if you let those clothes go? How might they be holding you back? 🩷

When I use the word flattering, I mean that the person looks good, & their clothes suit them. Not that they look taller or thinner or rounder or anything like that. To use the current vernacular, which I don't particularly like, I mean that the person looks like their best self.

    • @KristenCainStyle
      @KristenCainStyle  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks for your comment. I used the word flattering in fitting rooms and closets for years and always intended it to be kind and complimentary. It was called to my attention that the definition can include a negative slant. The Cambridge Dictionary defines flattering as 'making someone look or seem better or more attractive than usual'. Shifting away from the word flattering hasn't been easy, and I feel better using other options. 💕

Yes! Most of my life my brain spoke critical thoughts to me. And yet to my son and friends I would never ever be anything other than supportive. My 45 year old son is always so supportive to me and to watch him be the same to his daughter makes me proud that I stopped what I inherited. I’m still in the process is learning to catch my thoughts… hard work at my age! What I can’t understand is why I could support others and yet was so critical to myself. Actually I think it was because I hated my body! Nice insights Kristen 💞

Thank you, Marion. I want to believe that society is finally waking up to the damage done over the years, especially through the 'supermodel' era. The unkind thoughts have been practiced for a long time... and thankfully, at any time we can practice new ones and change our the way we see our bodies! 💖

My closet is full of great looking clothes, except when I put them on, I hate the way I look in them. So, I buy more clothes, hoping I will discover some, that will make me feel great. Never happens... Why? Because I don't like my current, older body and different clothes will not help me with that 😢... Yes, "all in my head"...
