I just love your tryons! I have many button downs that I love but never wear/ so my style is similar to yours… no collars and mostly cotton knits! Thanks for giving me something to calm my nerves while I wait for my son’s wedding in a few hours! I took your advice and used the rolling suitcase on to the ferry! Easy! It’s an unfortunate Barbie Pink for earlier days but so practical. Just love this selection of yours - you can borrow my pink suitcase to match your clothes 😂😂😂🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Marion!! I hope the wedding was fabulous!! I'm sure you looked beautiful! Wishing your son much happiness! I'm so glad the rolling suitcase worked well on the ferry. Cheers to you on such a wonderful milestone! 💖 And yes, I'd love to borrow your pink suitcase. ;-)
@@KristenCainStyle thanks Kristen! The wedding was simply incredible! In the end ' I went with the most simple and what I felt the best in and it was perfect!
You always find some amazing finds. Last week I went to Albuquerque to help my daughter move. One of the days while she was at work I went to 4 thrift stores. At the first I had a full overflowing cart but only got a very basic workout Tee that will be great for hiking....love the fit and color, also got a fleece pullover in a great color. Next shop I found an amazing vintage pattern and I sew....that was a cool find. 3rd shop nothing. Then I was done but on the way back to her house was a tiny church thrift shop....Wow. They were selling all clothes 2 for $1. I got 7 amazing pieces I love including a leather bag!!!! What!!! I will have to go there again next time I go visit.
Your neighborhood must have well off people donating such great items; especially at the bins. I love your finds and would wear just about everything. I need a Greta to shop with.😉
Having Greta to shop with is the absolute best! I'm blessed. And yes, the area does have some affluent donators. Which helps with the selection at the shops. ☺️
You are so right about looking out for/altering the length of tops. I think that accounts a lot of the time for why I don't love a piece or an outfit! It makes me realize I have some (considerate) purging and replacing to do over the next year or two!
Knowing your 'sweet spot' for the length of tops is such a game-changer. It makes it easy to know which pieces stay and which go (or need altering). Good luck!
I recently thrifted a hot pink top (outside my comfort zone but inspired by your "pink" video) - I styled it with black cargo pants with a half tuck. I tell myself "Kristen would approve" and trust myself to step up my style.
What great pieces! I'm with you on the length of tops, why the heck are they so long?!! Anyway, I specifically look for shorter tops when I thrift and you found some great ones! I think you'll have fun with the vest, might look good with the camel and black stripe?
I no longer buy or wear acrylic garments. They make me sweat and sometimes feel like plastic. I will make an acceptation with Lycocel and Tencel as they are breathable. I found so many beautiful pieces in natural fabrics at the thrift stores at incredible prices. Great video Kristen.
It's so much fun to see what you find! I'm almost embarrassed that I have never purchased anything thrifted. I love a great sale and I've taken many items to a little resale boutique near me. When I drop off I see some beautiful items but I've just never pulled the trigger. My kids have definitely found some treasures when they've been there. I love the sustainability aspects too.
Love, love the pink jacket on you. That camel stripe looks a lot better with the white near your face. I rudely told you I didn’t like the color with your coloring.😢
I love all your thrift finds! Especially the white linen shirt, green jacket, and the cream colored vest. Also, you look great in the navy Tommy Bahama sweater. Love your thrifting and try on videos!
I have that same navy and white old navy tshirt. I love it - it’s not too long and it is actually very good quality. My favorite T-shirts are from old navy. I don’t know the name / description of the specific shirt that I like. I just know it when I see it. I actually have one on right now. Most of my clothes are from a local thrift store and I have never dressed better in my life!! 😊
Fabulous! I thrifted three cardis and a pullover today, I went mostly for light blue. Brown, green, dark blue and light blue are my favored colors now. Sometimes I think I really need to buy and wear beige cashmere sweaters, but that’s just because it’s what is shown everywhere, like you said!
Woohoo! Great score! And it's so interesting how our brains start to think we 'need' something simply because we keep seeing it on others. Thus is the nature of trends! 🥰
You always manage to find such lovely pieces and those items in pink should be worn perhaps not every day but frequently as they really suit you. I like what you say about using thrifting to try out styles that you are not sure about. I am off to check out an old video of yours on thrifting!!!
This last weekend, at an antique store that also carries clothes, I purchased a jean pant by the brand “Close” made in Milan, Italy for $22.00. Looked them up the brand/price on line and they retailed for $365.00! A couple of days before I bought some slip on canvas shoes in a shade of mustard for $16.00. I normally wouldn’t buy that color but I have worn both the pant and shoes and they look great. I also have found name brand items at ridiculously low price. Love checking out clothes at thrift shops!
You found some lovely pieces at your thrift stores, the pinks are a fab addition to your colour palette. Somehow the black jackets seem to suck life from your skin tone (possibly my screen though) and am wondering if there are better neutrals for you? My wardrobe is around 85% thrifted, it's easy to verge on over consumption though, so these past years have kept pretty much to a one in/one out "policy" that avoids clutter and the burden of too many choices. This has been a great learning throughout 40 years of thrifting/donating. I guess you do this too?
Hi Wendy- I agree about black... I tend to choose navy blue more often and wear a bit of black as the weather warms and I have a bit more color. I'll admit that I'm not always good at one in/one out... as a result, my clothing rail is quite full! :-)
I have been buying more from Poshmark but need to get out and try some consignment and thrift shopping. Thanks for the reminder. AND I LOVE the Tommy Bahama sweater
Love, just your white long sleeve and that last little pink sweater with the white that you tried on oh my gosh that is so cute…also like the Covington sweater..also love the first pair of black boots..I like the zipper and the lace..I have a pair without a zipper and don’t wear them a lot because I don’t like to always have to lace them…
@@KristenCainStyle I watch you and it's so funny because I don't have a particular style.. it depends on where I'm at what I'm doing and where I'm going as to how I am going to dress.. I have so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so many clothes, address for walking the dog, going camping, going boating, also working at a school, working in the yard.. I didn't even know where to begin to try to figure it out
Loved this! Question: When you thrift, how do you handle the "Gain detergent smell?" Outside air drying seems to work the best for me, but sometimes it's hard to get "that smell" out. I will often put something back with a strong detergent/softener smell because it makes me sneeze. Your tip for trying on pants under a skirt is great. I did that once with my daughter in a thrift shop and she couldn't believe I did it.
If the smell is really strong, I add a cup or two of white vinegar to the wash load. I also hang garments outside in the sunshine to lift the 'Gain' smell. I've had very few items that retained the smell after those treatments.
Hi Kristen I just recently found you on TH-cam and am enjoying your videos. I love your tip about tops ending a the hip points, but what about blazers and jackets? Is there a lower sweet spot for them?
Welcome!! Thank you! Great question. I usually prefer my blazers to hit about the same spot as my tops or a bit lower (about the middle of the full part of my butt). However, I do sometimes like a longer, oversized blazer.
Patience and commitment. I thrift as a hobby and for fun with my kids... and it's also my work. Find one or two near you and go regularly. I have an upcoming video about thrifting. Stay tuned!
Kristen, Instead of the multitude of non matching items [and you don't need so many anyway ] you could have bought one high quality item that would look much better on you and elevate your style, ...just my opinion, Its not about finding lots of cheap clothes but finding your style , staying true to it and buying less,
Thanks. I'm happy with quality of the clothes I thrift and I feel that my wardrobe pieces work really well together. If I absolutely love something that's new and full-price, I will purchase it.
It is about buying great quality thrift items to finish out your wardrobe. She shows what great things are available and will stay out of the landfill.
@@denisecarter5117 I don't see any high quality items in this presentation, they dont mix and match and are choices of a person with no taste or personal style.
It is unreal what you find in a per pound bin. Never seen such a thing with the level of quality.
You are inspiring me to try thrifting again!!
Finding a nice white FLAX top…so lucky. I never iron my FLAX pieces. I hang them to dry outside in the sun.

Her thrift shops are like going to a nice mall on big sale. I’ve never found things like that ‘in a bin’.
I would never find this quality of clothes at my thrift shop, never mind the prices. Good for her.
