Some great information on this video. Love the idea of taking pictures of every outfit and then evaluating it. In the past more often than not I get stuck on the shoes. I like that you talk fast. Sometimes I click off of a video because they just talk to slow and take forever to get to the point.
Thanks, Ami! Glad my fast talking isn't too hard to follow. Shoes! I hear this so often. I'll add it to my list of video topics. Seems many would benefit from that chat. Is there something specific that feels like the issue when it comes to shoes? Thanks!
@KristenCainStyle on the shoes....I am 69 and back when I was in middle school I had one pair of loafers to wear to school and one pair of sneakers for PE. Those shoes had to last me the whole school year. I guess there must have been another pair of shoes for if we went out and a pair of cowboy boots for riding the horse. It was not till I was older that I had more shoe options. I also had to squeeze into a size 10 and currently wear an 11(women's shoes only went up to size 10 back then). It took me quite awhile before I actually wore sneakers as shoes because growing up those really were just for exercise or sports. I also just do not like loafers likely because that was my only choice as a kid. Many clothes are timeless but shoes date pretty fast. When I do invest in shoes they seem to go put of style quickly and I only wear good quality shoes so finding timeless shoes is so much harder. I currently live in jeans and in winter wear snow boots, spring and fall sneakers or hiking boots and summer sandals......I currently have a very casual lifestyle. The hardest thing is dressing up and having the right shoes.....I do own a few nice shoes today. Looking forward to you doing a video on shoes.
I've just found you, and I really feel as if I have found a kindred spirit. I'm 73, and retired from the UK, but my happy place has always been jeans also. They can take me anywhere, dressed up or down with a good selection of tops and accessories. Almost everything I own is pre-loved, apart from the jeans! I've followed this pattern of dressing since my hippie days, and by owning a navy and cream pair of smart trousers too, I'm good to go anywhere. Thank you so much for making me feel so at home on your channel.
I’ve never been helped more than with THIS VIDEO! thank you 🙏 **also, what if my whole outfit is based on what lipstick I want to wear?** sometimes a moody red is what’s right 🤔🤔🤔😊
Before I retired from teaching, I had 2 outfits ready for the next day-socks, shoes accessories included. Then if I didn’t feel like wearing my choice 1 outfit, I could easily go to #2 with no stress. Now working part time in our family business, I NEED to do that again. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Kristen, I just love your topics and how you explain it is very informative and ofcourse knowledgeable. May your professional program grow from strength to strength 💪
Another fantastic video. I think my main problem is that I show up to get dressed every work day without having practiced any outfit building, and so I never build the "skills" I need to get the results I want. So I plan to work on that! Thank you for the positivity, love it, Kristen!
Oh, this!! You nailed it. We get dressed every day so we sometimes think that translates into practicing outfit-building... but it really only strengthens the skill of wearing the same, easy options that we maybe don't love. I'd suggest spending a few hours playing with fresh combinations and then challenge yourself to wear those the following week. Then evaluate! You've got this! 🩵
Kristen, you ask really wonderful reflective questions for us to consider. I love how you use your own journey as an example but are quick to remind us we are individuals. I especially like the emphasis that our lives are filled with stages and our identities shift along with the tasks we do each day. From all the style content I have watched I have come to believe the key is seeing styling as the way we want to be seen in the world. It should fit who we are. But finding that out at each stage can be jarring and require some work. Thank you for the inspiration. And I am also a teacher who is still trying to figure out what to do with that shirt!
;-) Haha! Love the teacher shirt! It's a real thing. Thank you for your kind words. I want to help women take the mystery out of creating incredible personal style. Thanks for watching! 💖
Excellent advice!Thank you for clarifying the thought processes that are milling around, subconsciously maybe, in my confused brain. This has been a brilliant revelation. So glad I found you!
Wow I’m usually very resistant to the suggestions of the TH-cam algorithm, however, I’m so thankful I found your channel. While you’re talking about so many thematic style topics, you are framing these challenges that many of us struggle with in a totally new way - at least for me. Thank you for unpacking some of the key pieces that I just couldn’t see were behind some of my current struggles with getting dressed, styling outfits and even just understanding how to start breaking this cycle of internal dialogue that’s not serving me. Love love love your approach ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! Your comment made my day! I love helping women see their wardrobe struggles in a new way. Please let me know if there are any topics you'd like me to cover in upcoming videos. Welcome!! 🩷
Thanks. I'm so glad this was helpful. I've worked with many clients who share the 'too many vibes' situation. All good... and it's worth looking into if you feel overwhelmed by your wardrobe. 💕
I love your passion! I find that I’m drawn to specific styles on other people. When I try it it doesn’t work. I take pictures and then when I look back I have some outfits were I say to myself”what were you thinking???” I know I have way too many clothes and have purchased things because they were on sale only to realize they don’t love me as much as I loved them. Thank you for doing what you do!
I'm a size 14 petite and love horizontal stripes even though my sister criticizes my choices. I also love tie dye (it's my signature pattern) and she hates it on me. We are so different. I never criticize her choices. It funny how other people's opinion can sabotage your outfit choices.
Ooh, I love that tie dye is your signature pattern! That's fabulous!! I hope your sister can learn to love stripes and tie dye on you! And if she doesn't... you keep rocking them with style!! 🧡
I understand. I know that thoughts about our bodies can often get in the way of loving how we look and feel when we get dressed. Pain and allergies sound like difficult obstacles. I hope you're able to find some items, shapes, fabrics that work well for you. .. and wear them on repeat. ☺️
☺️ The majority of my videos intentionally lack photos. This makes it easier for me to create content, but mostly it's because my focus is on coaching. My belief is that style is meant to be personal and sharing images can make women feel they need to choose those items/colors/styles for themselves. I know there are lots of TH-cam channels devoted to showing outfits and clothing hauls, my passion is teaching and coaching on style.
Makes sense! When we have too many options, we often default to the same easy go-to combinations because our brain is overwhelmed and confused. As counterintuitive as it seems, fewer pieces can truly create more outfits you love! 💞

What a kind compliment!! Thank you for watching! I"m so glad you found this helpful! And yes to an outfit (or many) based on your lipstick!

That's a great idea!
Good tip!
The two outfit plan is brilliant.
Hi Kristen,
I just love your topics and how you explain it is very informative and ofcourse knowledgeable. May your professional program grow from strength to strength 💪
Thank you!
Love your videos. My problem is I buy for my fantasy life, instead of my real life
You're not alone.
I do the same thing!
I have so many lovely dresses to wear for a date that never happens 😂
“This dress would be great for me when I’m riding a bicycle with a basket at the beach”…

Thank you! Glad it was helpful! Good luck with the evaluating. I truly believe it's such a game-changer. 💜

Thanks!
I was pulling up adjectives as suggested and 26:24 was amazed when "armored" popped up 😅
I love your process! This is super helpful. I’m the too many vibes girl, which leads to too many clothes…

your sister is right
Hi Kristen, thank you for your videos. You remind me of a fashion version of Byron Katie.❤
This might be the highest compliment I've ever received! Thank you! Love her!!
@@KristenCainStyleYour welcome. Me too !
One of my biggest concerns is my weight fluctuating.
Biggest obstacle for me is my body shape, pain, and allergies.
I understand. I know that thoughts about our bodies can often get in the way of loving how we look and feel when we get dressed. Pain and allergies sound like difficult obstacles. I hope you're able to find some items, shapes, fabrics that work well for you. .. and wear them on repeat. ☺️
At last…. Pictures!

I think I have too many clothes, so I go for the same things and then get bored.
