Building a capsule wardrobe can be easy and fun, and anyone can do it, even if you're not a big fashionista. In this video, I'm going to break down the process into simple, easy steps, that anyone can do. So that you too can enjoy your minimalist wardrobe, get dressed quickly in the morning and feel good and confident in your clothes.
Capsule wardrobe videos used to intimidate me. I never thought I would be able to figure out how to build a capsule wardrobe. But I learned that it doesn't have to be complicated at all! Getting your wardrobe basics right can be a fun and enjoyable experience. Whether you've tried minimalist wardrobe essentials, or project 333, or if you've never tried any form wardrobe essentials, this video will help you out.
And as a minimalist, of course I have some things to share about how to create a capsule wardrobe on a budget as well. :)

I love how you stressed the fact that the wardrobe should mirror your lifestyle and even your pdf guide reflects that. I am transitioning to a capsule wardrobe and I spent so much time stuck because of the rules I was autoimposing myself. Finally I just accepted that I need more than 40 pieces a season because my lifestyle makes me constantly switch between outdoor clothing and professional... it took me so long to realise that minimalism means having just what you need and not restricting arbitrarily your possessions

I have 2 capsule wardrobes hanging in my closet for all year long :) separated by a little wooden hanger..one side is my work clothes - basicly black, white, grey, with a few prints, moments of color and textures - comfortable, sturdy and classy. The other side is my off days for errands, beach, seeing different places. Lots of different colors and patterns, and different pairs of black shoes to match everything. It makes getting ready to do something so much easier.

I love this! So thorough. I felt like my need for athletic clothes (I’m in the gym nearly every day) was not in line with minimalism. You made me realize that a capsule wardrobe doesn’t have to mean you only have one type of clothing!

Since august 1st, I purchased only a Guns N Roses t-shirt (on August) and a black relaxed denim (yesterday). All of my colorful tops (simple silhouette) can go with my simple bottoms and all of my printed/textured bottoms (interesting silhuettes) can go with my simple tops. Feminine prints like florals etc., I have them as dresses (no need to mix n match). I have a very versatile capsule :))))))))
Everything is energy and clothes accumulate energy as well! Every season I like to revise my wardrobe and ask myself all of these question, let go of what I no longer love to wear or whatever doesn't make me feel like myself.. we are constantly changing and renewing our energy. Nowadays I like to keep only what makes me feel me in my wardrobe :)

This is one of your best. I hv lived by this for years as get too overwhelmed by too much. Our weather here in Mo in USA changes sometimes within an hr so i keep windbreakers sweaters on hand but minimum of jeans dresses. I hv 2 pr shoes a pair boots and chore shoes thats all i want. I am retired nurse living in country raising own food dont need alot of clothesThank you

I mostly wear light gray, navy, black, etc. While shopping at some great yard sales yesterday, I was lucky enough to find some lovely 2nd-hand floral tops/sweatshirts. Brought them home, tried them on, and felt so light and colorful! So your suggestion about wearing florals/prints made me feel less guilty about wanting to wear these colorful items. I have your permission 😉 And I follow my rule of one in, one out. Sometimes one in, two out. seasons in one day. So we surely
need a varied array of jackets and
shoes. Not so many summer clothes. Maybe for summer I
could get away with a mini capsule but for other seasons

I am from Germany, same here (live near the Netherlands), but I do not like layering. Normally I wear a longsleeve or T-Shirt and have two thin jackets, that’s enough for washing one in between. An of course a Coat for real winter.
Great video! I've been toying with the idea of a capsule wardrobe but it seemed so overwhelming. The articles and videos I'd seen before yours made it so complicated. Thank you for breaking it down and simplifying the process. The step by step is so helpful. You really have a knack for umcomplicating this minimalism journey!

This is the first video from you that I watched. Thank you for the explanation about building a capsule wardrobe! Happily surprised to find someone from the Netherlands and now feeling better about keeping my summer and winter stuff together 🙂
1 how do you spend ur time
2 why do you like certain clothes and not others, color, fit, materials, style you prefer, what style best defines you best
3 keep maybe and declutter piles and if it doesn’t fit #2 then get rid of it
4 shop with intention(list) if needed
5 organize how you keep your clothes
For anyone who is afraid of taking the first step towards minimizing your wardrobe, I found it easiest to make outfits that I wear normally on the hangers. It really helps you see what you have too many of or too few of, and you can gradually work through those extra items while wearing your normal outfits. (Also, no need to purge things right off the bat!)

I’m glad that you mentioned that it’s ok to wear color. It’s easier to just stick to nuetrals so I get why most TH-camrs do that but life is too too short to wear black and white ALL the time. So I def like some autumn/jewel tone colors in my wardrobe as well.
Basics are important. I had so many clothes with no basics so it made it hard to get dressed. I’ve added a lot of basics this season
Yes color can definitely be part of a capsule wardrobe :D I aso have a few brightly colored pieces and I love them.
this video is absolutely brilliant! im trying to curate my wardrobe because ive spent the last 7 years very unsure who i am and what i want to wear, but this year its become more clear to me that i prefer more basic pieces that sometimes have interesting cuts or textures. this video has been sooo helpful, im definitely going to do all the steps soon and try to work out what new clothes i need and what i dont. thanks so much!!!

I’m actually moving to the Netherlands in 2 weeks for a year long study abroad program and I’ve probably watched like 100 different capsule wardobe videos while trying to figure out what I’m going to pack and bring with me. I live in a tropical country where most people think it is an all-sun-shiny-day everday through out the year type of weather. But in fact, the weather changes in a quite crazy speed. Blazing hot in the afternoon and a sudden storm in the evening. Not to mention, most people put the air-con at a subzero freezing temp (includes at my office). So my yearly wardrobe mostly consists of simple shirts / t-shirts + outers for layering where I can put it on/off depends on the temp. I don’t do dress since I use motorcycle to commute. But I like the fact when you point out the proportion of time we allocate to each activity. I come to realize I have more gym clothes than I need, and maybe not enough working clothes 😅 Thx a lot Vera
Ooooh I love this! I feel like it adds the structure that I need after doing the big de-clutter of my clothing, Marie Kondo style, because then I was left with the 'keep' pile, and didn't know where to go from there without starting the wardrobe mistakes all over again. This helps me to really think clearly about what I need, nothing more, nothing less. I will also try the sustainable shopping, and shopping with intent. I live in the Rocky Mountain foothills. We have had two days this late summer/fall where we were in the 80s the day before a snowstorm.
I handle this by having year round clothing, and two small boxes of “really hot” and “really cold” clothes. “Hot” are some nice sleeveless things in thin material. “Cold” includes my coat, thicker layers.
Those two boxes are 30 percent of my wardrobe, and easily slipped in and out of drawers or on the closet rod. The coat has a hook near the door. Gloves and a scarf live in its pockets.
Well said. Thank you. I especially liked how you suggested that every fabric in our closet may not actually be pleasing to us. i have been keeping a written inventory for a few years. it sure helps to see the types of categories and the same colors that may be excessive.

Thanks for all your wonderful videos and Ideas❤️😊. I maintain my Spring and Autumn clothes in my wardrobe and store away my Summer clothes in Winter and Winter clothes in Summer so that I always have daily weather changes covered 😊
Also if I buy a new piece of clothing I try and donate an existing piece of clothing to maintain the equilibrium of my wardrobe 😊

Changeable weather! I hear you (Scotland)
I have kind of a capsule for summer and winter, but I am still reducing by wearing the oldest items down and replace them in the next season with those in storage. So I have more in Storage than I need, but I do not want to throw good things away. I do not declutter to match a certain number, but I like to have only part of my clothes in sight ;) If I feel the need to replace something I try to shop sustainable (second hand or fair and organic), but with when I buy shoes the most important is that I can wear them at least several years - I hate to shop shoes. So mostly they are real leather and brands that I know to be easily repaired and long lasting.

I have very simple capsule right now . Most of my clothes are gray, dark green, yellow or burgundy. I like more masculine style and definitely I'm uniform gal. :) My creative outlet in the morning is makeup and I like it very much and I wear various and colourfull looks almost every day.

Hi Vera. Thanks for the video. I watched some on capsule wardrobe out of curiosity and had a good laugh. One mentioned 33 items for every season,33 times 4. I don't even have that much clothing. Being a Dutchy like you I've to be prepared for all seasons in one day so can't store items away too. Your video is much more fitting 😘

I always sort eg all of my hoodies in one pile and then rank which one i like most on top an which i like less at the bottom of the pile...than i just count how many hoodies i want to keep up to down and declutter the ones at the bottom👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for the video Vera! It helped a lot. I have all four seasons of clothes in my closet too because I put myself on a shopping ban. If I can see all my clothes I am less likely to purchase new ones. I have five purses and have told myself not to buy any more until I go through the purses I have. I am doing the same with my clothing.

The hanger method has helped me see what items in closet I don't use anymore so I went ahead and decluttered those and I came up with a capsule wardrobe. I love this step by step process for beginners. Well done! xx

I like the idea of a seasonal capsule wardrobe in theory, but where I live, it's cold most of the year, so my seasonal clothing includes one pair of shorts and a few dresses that I can wear those 3 weeks of summer, or the rest of the year with tights underneath. Also, I work outdoors a lot, so I need to have things like thermal clothing and snow pants.
