    One of the prettiest songs ever written and sung great collaboration between Jam and Lewis and the very underrated force Md's !!!!!

      That disarmingly sweet piano intro by Jimmy Jam grabs hold of your sentimental side and doesn't let go. The chorus lulls you deeper as you are held, tenderly, until Jam's piano outro gently lets you go. And part of you wishes it would never end.

    I'm not really the sentimental type. but there's something about this song that brings a tear to my eye, maybe because this era of great music is so long gone, never to return and it feels like I lost a friend

      I agree. This generation of music has some sparks and flashes here and there, but there is no comparison to the beautifully diverse and creative sounds that my generation grew up listening to in the 70s & 80s. I thank sites like TH-cam for being here to keep it alive for those of us who still appreciate hearing it.

    Babyface is good, but these two are still the biggest producers of all time. No one has surpassed them and probably never will. Their hits are endless and the number of artists they've worked with is mind boggling. They are my idols and wish they would do more in this era.

    • @keemyfoke
      @keemyfoke 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      +Ezekiel Major I see how you could say that, but I think Face was a better overall songwriter/producer. He wrote such great songs, that producing them with LA was easy. Jam and Lewis played such great jams/grooves that they turned into songs. Like they said, Funky bottom with a pop melody. People also forget Babyface had a team with LA Reid and the forgotten one, Darry Simmons. They were a team just like Jam and Lewis though Babyface did the majority of the writing. I kinda like Face more, though most days I struggle picking between the two.

    • @ezekielmajor5511
      @ezekielmajor5511 8 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I'm sorry my friend, but Jam & Lewis's reign was a lot longer than Babyface's. Jam & Lewis dominated the eighties with several #1's or top 10 hits, and even wrote hits in the 90's, while baby face pretty much had a short window of hits in the 90's. Jam & Lewis's portfolio is much longer than LA & Face.

    • @keemyfoke
      @keemyfoke 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Ezekiel Major Nah. Babyface and Jam and Lewis still are neck and neck. Meanwhile Babyface quietly has more grammys. It's not an either or neither. They're both great. Both genreless. Babyface is more well known. Jam and Lewis have never scored a film soundtrack for multiple films. Babyface is still writing with Mariah, Toni etc. Jam and Lewis are too, it's just a different lane. Idk why, but Babyface is more well known. I think cuz his songwriting is so strong, but he just is a household name. Probably because he sings as well as writes for everyone. Jam and Lewis are nuts though

    • @ezekielmajor5511
      @ezekielmajor5511 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Wrong my friend. Jam & Lewis are very well known and Jam himself actually sits on the board one of the awards academies. When you look at the amount of artists jam & Lewis have wrote for and hits generated, Face's body of work is nowhere near theirs. I'm not saying face isn't awesome, but Jam & Lewis are still on an entirely different level above face. As I said, Face's back to back success was short compared to Jam & Lewis. These guys were knocking off hit after hit after hit in their era and can still do it today if they really wanted, but they have kind of fallen back and are letting the new producers take the reigns - Pharrell, Swizz Beats, Jerkins, R. Kelly etc.

    • @keemyfoke
      @keemyfoke 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Ezekiel Major I respect your opinion. I just disagree. I think they're both timeless which is why they're both still working and very wealthy. But there's only two kinds of music in reality. Good and bad.

    The thing that really drives the song for me are the keys. The piano melody is so lush and filled with emotion. The vocals are great, too, with the old school harmony, but that piano is definitely the lead. I wish it could go on forever and the way it whispers near the end, man... just beautiful. That song was an instant classic.

    This soft and beautiful song was a monster hit and played on every boom box every tape deck every supermarket and all pop stations when it was out. 30 times a day. Oh and I went to school with the lead singer of the FMDs who walked around singing “Let me love you” all friggin day. When I heard it on the radio I was like WHAAAAAAT?
