    I am running my pi 3 with a DRAWS hat, and so have that image installed for running JS8. I used github and have the Hotspot Tools, but upon rebooting, my wifi is all gone, and the Hotspot Tools goes into a loop of rebooting when I try to enable it. No changes occur, and I am prompted again to enable the hotspot, only to have be prompted to reboot again, and the cycle starts again. Any thoughts?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try disabling the hotspot in hotspot tools, reboot, and see if your WiFi returns to normal. DRAWS uses a custom images and I haven’t tested hotspot or hotspot tools with their image.

    • @kevink526
      @kevink526 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KM4ACKI tried disabling it, and it indicated it was already disabled. It never seems to actually enable so it does not let me make any changes. It must have some form of conflict with the DRAWS image. Tnx.

    Thank you!
    This was the video I needed to finally get the iPad to view and control the pi. However, it only works with the pi as the hotspot (as in field operations).
    Without buying a monitor, is there a way to use my iPad as the monitor while using the router in the shack as the Wifi hotspot (and internet source)?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Make sure they are both on the same network. Then instead of 10.10.10.10, use the ip address that your home wifi router assigns to the pi.

    Hi Jason, I have spent quite a lot of time this weekend loading Build A Pie onto a raspberry pi. I have had one issue with the hot spot and would like to mention it to you. In my area of Australia there is considerable traffic from other local installations on wifi channel 8.I also found that, in my pi configuration localisations, my wifi country kept (I have installed Build A Pi 4 times now) either being disabled or set to US. To work around this I have now edited /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf to set a different channel and country code. I wonder if this will be reset back to your defaults if I install any future updates.

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It shouldn't be a problem with future updates as build a pi will not allow you to update the hotspot. I didn't write the hotspot code itself. Instead BAP downloads it from another site and makes just a few mods during install. Hotspot Tools is something I wrote but it should not modify this going forward.

    I get a black 'cannot currently show the desktop' screen. If I run vncserver via the shell it'll give me a desktop at 10.0.10.10:1 but that's not ideal ;) Any tips? Also, your work on this is just absolutely amazing!

    I've been watching a few of your videos and I'm confused as to using the pi as a hotspot in the filed. What does the Pi connect to to be come a hotspot?? I understand the devices can connect to it, but what is the purpose of it?

    • @KM4ACK
      @KM4ACK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wifi hotspot created by the pi allows us to connect other devices (tablets/phones) to the pi and then initiate a VNC connection so that we can use our other device to view and control the pi.
