      When you're married to a lady named Autumn you end up buying any think that's pumpkin spice flavored!!!! She absolutely loves that time of year!!! I would love to set up a see through time lapse to show how some of these feedings decay & get eaten, but I haven't figured it out yet. Can you imagine if worms ate living plant matter...everything on the earth would be extinct!!! Thanks for stopping by J&C...I've got a lot of catching up to do!!🪱🪱🪱

      @@Vermicompost Autumn is a great time of year forsure!! Maybe a quick picture everytime you ho in and add ice an bottles to cool it down ? Like you did when the AC broke, but more specific to how much of the "feeding mass" is eaten each, or every couple days. Would be fascinating!!

    My sister has an aloe that has a few limbs that look like they could be pruned off. When I was there the other evening I came close to clipping them off & bringing them home for the wormies... From the look of it, the wormies would've probably appreciated the juicy treat :) Can hardly wait to see what becomes of the vermi time capsule. The temperature check-ins that you plan to do is a great idea 👍🏻

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Next time you are at her house definitely bring some home!! I'd love to see how it turns out in one of your bins as well!! Vermi Time Capsule...I love that name for it!! It could very well act like a slow release food for them, with the benefit of decaying while it waits for them to penetrate the cardboard barrier! So far first temperature check 24 hours later was 82℉ but I still added ice to keep it from running away and getting behind the power curve. Thanks so much for stopping by to watch AV!!🪱🪱🪱

What expired in my pantry was an interesting mix of healthy flours and grains along with some sugary sweets...the worms are in for some crazy treats the next few weeks!! That little food container is going to be really interesting I think! I may have to go in a bit earlier to see if they get into it sooner than expected!! • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that dump out was a bit of an impulsive move!! 1 day later the temp was in the low 80's. This morning (36 hours from the start) it was in the mid 90's so I added ice and a frozen water bottle, 6 hours later it was in the mid 70's...so I'm gonna be keeping an eye on this feeding!!
      😂That little time capsule was made of some dense cardboard, so hopefully between the melon placed on it, the watering I gave it after filming and the ice drips, we might see some action!! Thanks for stopping over to watch Ann!!🪱🪱🪱

    I think we all love your pantry. It gives up so many different types of food. I'm guessing that the worms will pretty much devour the food outside the tube in a week or so, then finally get to the inside of the tube. Great video guys.

    I’m 30 days into my new vermahut first time doing this and I was reading up on bedding and when I stared my worms came early before the hut got here so went and got some peat moss sphagnum is what I got didn’t know this is bad for them so going to clean up and start over to be safe don’t see any dead ones just fyi peeps

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A lot of sellers pack them up in peat moss to help dry them out and make them easier/safer to ship but I think it can tend to be a little acidic so folks that use store bought bedding tend to go with coco coir. My VermiHut came with a brick of coco coir which I used for my first tray. I prefer to use free bedding, so I end up using shredded boxes & newspaper. I don't have a lot of trees that lose their leaves around me or I would use that as well again, finely shredded. Thanks for passing on your experience with peat moss & thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱

    Just curious why you don’t use junk mail for bedding?

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question!! Very occasionally I do, but paper, in general, tends to get matted down & clumpy in my bins so I like to use shredded cardboard which has more structure, mixed with some newspaper which seems to get broken down faster. I do however use junk mail on my regular compost pile! Thanks so much for watching & thanks for asking a great question!!🪱🪱🪱

    Will worm eat meat? Did you try it? I am curious what will happen?

    • @Vermicompost
      @Vermicompost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worms will eat meat!! But.....It can be very smelly, heat up the bin and attract rodents and raccoons among other creatures. I personally do not feed meat to my bins because of the rancid smell but here is a playlist of @connecticutworms&garden who feeds her bin a big pork chop and shows you what happens in her bin: th-cam.com/play/PLAsSghiX65nrazmGNYamaebfOgVGSOoSS.html
