It looked like most of the food that was left is slower food that just wasn't available in terms of being broken down enough to consume. I find worms all throughout the bins at feeding time. Most of the really "good stuff" is gone, and they're working their way back through the "leftovers." When I checked last week, 4 days after feeding, they were pretty much all in the feeding zone. Leaving the covers off to help dry things up faster is a good idea. Drying things up a bit should also help with the mites. If you have some dry peat, shredded cardboard, or paper to mix in, that would help soak up the moisture and speed up the drying. Any really absorbent carbon should work. I would think a population that size would consume it fairly quickly, but idk if it would ultimately be any faster than what you're already doing. Some cardboard pieces standing on end, down in the castings but sticking up out of them to wick the moisture up to evaporate, might help, also. Had trouble wording that, so I hope it made sense. It seems like that bin is overpopulated, and you should give a big handful of the red wigglers to a TH-cam friend 😊 Haha. It's fun to see so many happy worms. I'm sure you already knew all that and have things pretty well sorted by the time we're seeing this. Guess I just felt like writing a book before bed. Have a good night. Thanks for the show.
I think that's exactly right, they're making their way through for the leftovers. It's interesting that they even still enjoy the "leftovers" because quite often they're quick to migrate, at least 90% of them. It's been a long time since I've not been able to harvest without picking out a lot of worms. Then again I've been a lot more sporadic for the last couple of months. That's why even now - shh don't tell anyone else 😉 - writing from the future I'm still struggling a bit with this bin. Ultimately in this video however I showed my impatience and moved half the material over and added new stuff! Lol. Today I've been thinking of a new plan since it's winter. I need to get these videos caught up is part of that plan! 😁 I appreciate all of your suggestions, advice, and ideas whether I know them already or not. I understood your suggestion about the piece of cardboard as well, good idea. You make a good point that even if I had more paper these guys should get through the paper quickly. I should prioritize drying this up. 😂😂😂😂 So you think I need to give some worms away? 🤔🤔🤔 That or start another bin!!! Honestly I would like to start another bin (and another another for the blues 🤣) but I need to rearrange my set up first. If you say it enough times I might just make it happen! 😂😂 It is so fun to have happy worms, and lots of them. Thanks so much for writing that chapter for me! Sleep well, take care, and have a great start to your new day! 💜🙋♀️
