Its incredible, I really like it. I have put so much through it and no issues at all (about 8 bin bags full of shreddings). Micro Shredder: geni.us/microshred
I'd cover both bins with newspapers and an old towel it should help to keep the bins moist and warm. I personally use plastic on top of the newspapers. It holds all the moisture, but my bins are in the basement. I also just put the cocoons in the outdoor compost when I find them, as they only hatch when conditions are right. With the cold Cdn 🥶 winters, it still works If it didn't cost so much to ship, I'd send you some bins. Sorry, Shaun. Oh, btw I love this format of videos . Keep on keeping on.
An old towel is a good call! I am waiting on a bunch of newspapers from a couple people in our village, I unfortunately don't have any. I think in your climate, the heating cables would have a real job on their hands in a non-insulated shed like mine. We don't typically get much below around -2'C. Will be keeping an eye on things. Shipping would be a killer to the UK for something as bulky as those bins. Do you use them? They look perfectly suited for this.
I have one but not in use right now. I have put all my worms into my plastic barrel, and I cut in half lengthwise and connected the haves together. Now I have over 20 pounds in the barrel, and they all shrank in size.
Hi Shaun, watching this video reminded me of a channel green side up, where he made a 8'x2' propagator in his greenhouse. Unfortunately he passed away I believe a couple of years ago but his channel is still up and has loads of great content on gardening, composting, poly tunnels and allotments, worth checking out if you get time 👍
I’ve been following chilichump for years. Have purchased seeds from you. I have a new hobby. Red wigglers and making castings for my garden and peppers. I am currently making a 4’ steel CTF made from store bought heavy duty shelving. Will have a hand winch for a cutting bar. I did not know about this channel you have. Have subscribed here too!
Because there is no way it's getting to 70 or 80 F in the whole bin during winter in the UK. However around the heating cable it is well in that range while it's on. And if that is perfect for the worms. If I set the thermostat to 70 or 80, then the heating cable would never turn off. And would likely overheat the worms and also dry out the bin
Shaun, have you got a link to the shredder? currently chopping mine with scissors so could use a recommendation for a good reliable cardboard shredder, Stay spicy 🙂
Looking for the shredder im using? Here you go! geni.us/microshred
Castings are such a great way to improve soil. Worms are brilliant things mate
Great way of keeping your worms warm in winter 🇳🇿🪱
New channel for ChiliChump...Glad to see it..Subscribed
Welcome mate!
Quite interested in the cardboard shredder you use. I always wait to buy one because I'm afraid it's going to fail and be lost money.

Hi Barry, I have come across his channel before. I wasn't aware he had passed away. That is truly sad
@@VermiChump yes it is, it was a pleasure to watch his videos

you can get the big mortar mixing tubs in the UK, most builders merchants, or ebay is probably cheaper with multiple sizes.
Can I get a link for the shredder you use?
Hi Chris, it is linked in the description. But here you go geni.us/microshred
If covering with cardboard, do you wet it as well?
Yes I make sure that's wet as well.
70 to 80 degrees F is ideal for breeding. Not sure how a thermostat that shuts off at 50 degrees F helps?

Hi Daniel, this is the one. It is a beast! geni.us/microshred
Looking good. How much can the cable raise the temperature? 😃🪱👍🏼
It's been keeping it 10’C above ambient. Quite impressed so far
