JBP is not saying the bible is written with literal truths. He is saying that the values imparted by the stories of the bible are so thoroughly ingrained in Judeo-Christian culture (Western culture) that they are a precondition for how we perceive and interpret 'truth' and the world. This doesn't mean that those values originated with the bible, but that the bible is the most comprehensive and concise collection of those values. This applies to other major religious texts and their respective cultures as well. This isn't about whether or not you believe in God, Jesus or the bible. The stories of the bible have had an immense influence on everything about our lives. A hierarchy of values is imperative to how we view the world. We are constantly observing the world, but how we observe it is determined by a hierarchy of values. We simply have no reason or means of making sense of the world without a hierarchy of values informing what is and what isn't important. What to look at and why we look at it. Beyond survival and reproduction, I don't know that we should consider the values of our culture to be simply self-evident and innate. I think it's reasonable to consider that those values beyond the most primitive are inherited from the bible. Even if you've never read it, it is embedded so deeply in our culture that we are subconsciously looking through its lens. The hole in the argument is that could be said about a lot of religious text and isnt specific to the bible then. It also doesn't get rid of the problem of why that ethical methodology with those sets of facts and not this other methodology with these sets of facts or hierarchy of facts.
I never thought about prioritizing facts, like sure there are tons of facts that are 100% accurate and able to be proven. What ones are more important than others? What ones have a bigger impact on our lives than others?
While the basis of law WAS religious. Religion is no longer needed to continue using law to determine morality. Subjective morality is now amongst the basis of new legislation
I find difficulty understanding the idea that there can only be truth if its precondition exists too. If nothing existed (ie absolutely nothing, no space, time, and matter), then the proposition "nothing exists" would be true. Since nothing encompasses any precondition to truth, then no precondition to truth exists, yet there is a true proposition.

Which also implies that when you speak with him, you'd have to convince him to censor. That's is counter to his entire lifes work.

another thing about the Bible is the truth and ensuing about it points back to God being true and ever now as he describes himself as I am which means every precautions present and always. so while we see time from our own linear perception he sees it as a fleeting moment for God and his son Christ Jesus exist outside of what we know as time that's why he is the way the truth and the life great I am
Love Jordan but thats a highly flawed assertion. Its like he's saying that before the bible was assembled in like the 300s AD, no one had an objective standard of truth or ethics. Not the Chinese, the Hindus, the ancient greeks, the egyptians, the Babylonians, the Phonecians, the Mycenians, the Bablooshkins or the Sumarians. And what about science? Does the periodic table suddenly evaporate as soon as the bible disappears?
Okay but he never said WHY it is true. He simply said its true bevause its the precondition of thruth, which is a circular argument. It basicaly validates itself by saying its validated.. maybe he gets more into it in the full video.
The Bible is true in that it is a tool which one can use to interact with the world, and it's a decently robust one. Other religions can be seen as tools, equally true in that they are also ways to interact with the world. The durability of these tools is then the main question.
It’s not a suit. It’s a mix and match as you can see the trousers are a different colour and probably material. However, I do agree he’s very well dressed.
What a bunch of crap! I really used to like Jordan Peterson but the more I listen to him the more I think he’s an absolute nut. If all of truth is conditioned on scripture, does that mean that there was no truth before scripture? Or that all truth has to be built off of scripture? He’s being incredibly dramatic which he loves to do more and more. I’ve listened to hundreds of hours of him speaking but he just annoys me now. If you’ve ever heard him actually describe what he believes is God, he sounds more like a Hindu, which is fine except that he almost tries to pass himself off as a Christian. He’s always interpreting Christians scriptures as if he knows what he’s talking about, but he has no belief of Christianity. It’s weird.
Peterson is saying the Bible is true as symbolism and mythological imagery. However, the actual truth and power of the Bible comes from its literal and historical truth, which can change your life.
That is only true if it is THE truth. It must be true in itself. Not just the Ultimate model for truth because he knows that truth must exist yet he does not want to suit to absolute objective reality.
I agree that we don't really have a foundation for "first truths" the way we think we do. But why does that mean the Bible necessarily provides the basis for truth? Can't you just say there is no truth, or the truth is unknowable, or there is some other source of truth? Why the Bible?
I'm not bright and Mr JP is truly gifted but maybe I didn't quite understand him. I thought he said that because there are too many facts we have to prioritize to arrive at an ethical domain. That doesn't sound right at all. And by the way, everyone knows the truth but they are blinded by arrogance and also it's very probable that their sinful lusts make the truth inconvenient. The Bible says that those who continue in their reprobate lusts are given over to blindness but they are not truly all blind for then God would not punish them in eternity. When He said on the cross Father forgive them for they know not what they do, He merely meant they do not know they crucify God Himself, in my humble opinion. Maybe He meant something else but certainly He didn't mean that they did know what they were doing. That only happens in a total possession. But in a total possession people act out like you see them in horror flicks.
There are an infinite number of ways to interpret any finite set of phenomena. You have to have a system of values to determine what phenomena, and what levels of analysis and what interpretations, to focus on.
So if God is the alfa and omega I assume He knew that Eve is going to be deceived by the serpent. So He knew that People are going to suffer in future. If he didn't want us to suffer He would've stopped that from happening. Like the world has turned into a dark place even though you believe and ask for help from God nothing is gonna change unless you are fit enough in all aspects.

God has special plans for this man, it’s pretty obvious.. but the coolest thing is, He has special plans for ALL of us.
The whole video please?
people starts quoting from a harry potter books in the comment section pretending theyre the truth
I mean, to be fair, 'Fear of a name increases fear of a thing itself' is a pretty banger line.
Pray Jordan gets born again. You can tell the Holy Spirit is working on him.
Hé is very very close haha 😊
He was Christian when he said this he just kept it to himself, he like anyone who looks for the truth finds it in Christianity
While the basis of law WAS religious. Religion is no longer needed to continue using law to determine morality. Subjective morality is now amongst the basis of new legislation
Just because you can't see any holes in it, regardless of perspective, is NOT proof that there aren't any holes there.
Weird argument, yet an interesting and beautiful one.
The ancients even had depictions of UFOs even in Egypt and that's where the Bible took place
No matter what I'm always going to believe that there is life beyond Earth there has to be there's no way with all the planets and all the stars in our galaxy and all the other galaxies that we are the only ones!
Im a orthodox jew , would love to speak to you one day about all of that , i think judaism has everything to sell to you speaking exactly of what you are talking about .❤️❤️
Yet that isn't the Bible he's referring to. Only part of it. And don't forget, your comprehension of it is altered by the Talmud, which has horrible things to say about the Bible he's referring to.
What he's talking about includes refers to a "full" understanding of the Torah and Tanach as Jesus taught it, and that's sometbing you aren't even allowed to read. Which also implies that when you speak with him, you'd have to convince him to censor. That's is counter to his entire lifes work.
@@SergeantSquared i never mentioned the talmud , the new testament is complete garbage written out of lies started by paul who was a jew that abandoned his religion and hated it .
The old testament the tanakh was written all during the prophets that guided the jewish people and,had a huge impact on the rest of the world .
Jesus only becane holy 100 years or something like that after his death before that he had a few followers like every charismatic person has , but chrisianity has nothing to do with him it was founded much later .
The new testament is a complete lie made up from nice sounding veses based and stolen from the old one .
And what exactly does the talmud say so bad about the bible , you mean it talks badly about the new made up testament .
@@alexanderfeldinger1441 see.. you have nothing to tell Dr Peterson. Just as I said. The Talmud is where you got all of what you just said.
@@SergeantSquared i dont know any talmud that you are refering to can you tell me?
@@alexanderfeldinger1441 you told them all in your comment which no longer appears here.
This is not a good look for you.
The most True Thing is the Bible . What a great Book!!
There are no holes in the Bible! The word of God is living, active& sharper than any 2 edged sword, separating bone from marrow & soul from spirit.
It's a book of fables and stories. Like an ancient Hollywood. That's how we should look at it.
Amen!!!!
"There are no holes in the Bible!" Then why does it start off with two separate creation stories that contradict each other?
The basis for truth itself...
Ansolutely insane.
"As soon as they are prioritized..."
Hierarchies are celestial. In hell, all are equal.

Question to ask:
- Is the Truth truly the Truth when not taking in consideration other truths?
- Is the Truth truly the Truth when plagiarized in other text?
- Can a book of myths be called The Book of Truth?

Can someone please explain the part when God said The evening and the morning is the day
Damn he's got bars

Amen.
He just made the Bible Absolute! 😀
another thing about the Bible is the truth and ensuing about it points back to God being true and ever now as he describes
himself as I am which means every precautions
present and always. so while we see time from our own linear perception he sees it as a fleeting moment for God and his son Christ Jesus exist outside of what we know as time that's why he is the way the truth and the life great I am
I can’t see any holes in that argument, even talking snakes.
What you did right there, my friend, is what you call a strawman fallacy.
Jesus is the truth! 🙏🙏🙏
The is only true because we as people is human nature to do the things we do but now they'r at a higher level...
Truth s dat wc persists. Resonance.
Such a brilliant mind

@@johnston.scott64 he is brilliant. You’re just a triggered atheist who like his own comment. God is real. Now get a life
The Bible is true in that it is a tool which one can use to interact with the world, and it's a decently robust one. Other religions can be seen as tools, equally true in that they are also ways to interact with the world. The durability of these tools is then the main question.
Jesus’ resurrection sets apart Christianity from any other belief. The Bible is the Truth
I have got to get a suit like that.
It’s not a suit.
It’s a mix and match as you can see the trousers are a different colour and probably material.
However, I do agree he’s very well dressed.
@@stunns2003 it's all different. Trousers, jacket, waistcoat, tie and shirt. None of it is the same, persay, but it all works! Very Victorian.
So we agree it’s not a Suit……It’s more a smart/casual outfit.
relatships value the creation almost of 4 or more types of love value love and God is love allowed mose?
Wow, people want to believe so badly they will make up anything

Talk that ish jp
I wish Jordan would say, Jesus is Lord of Lords and he is the King of Kings
So he thinks a woman who is raped should be required to marry her rapist if he pays money to her father and he tells her to marry him? Deut 22:28-29.

I agree with JP on lots of things but not this point.
What is ethical domain?
So if God is the alfa and omega I assume He knew that Eve is going to be deceived by the serpent. So He knew that People are going to suffer in future. If he didn't want us to suffer He would've stopped that from happening. Like the world has turned into a dark place even though you believe and ask for help from God nothing is gonna change unless you are fit enough in all aspects.
