    Hi Elyssa, so glad I discovered you! What a great channel. Visiting Rome in early May and only have one day. I booked the The Rome in A Day tour with the transportation included. Didn't realize how vast this place is and how critical time is when you only have a day and a half. Do you have an aerial view of the area anywhere on your site with pretty much just the main attractions. Just trying to get some sense of direction. So many aerial views label everything and it's hard view. Just watched your "What to wear in Rome in Spring 2024". A lot of things I didn't think of. Thank you so much!

      Great idea booking a tour since you only have a day. Rome is indeed vast and there is so much to see. The Romans say "A lifetime is not enough!"
      No, I don't have that map as an aerial view but it's an excellent suggestion. I'll try to have one made.
      I hope you have a wonderful visit this May!

    Do you have any safety advice for avoiding pick pocketers and theft in Rome? I am a little nervous for my first time how to keep things safe and not get anything stolen. I keep seeing about how its bad haha.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for watching. First of all, while pickpocketing is a problem in any big city, it's not necessarily much worse in Rome than anywhere else. Please don't let online comments put you off.
      To avoid pickpockets anywhere, not just Rome, I suggest not carrying too many valuable belongings with you as you go around. Bring at least 2 credit cards with you and leave one in your hotel or apartment just in case the other one gets lost or stolen. You can always cancel the card that gets lost but by having a backup, you won't be inconvenienced by not having any credit card on you.
      Don't carry your wallet in a front or back pocket. Keep it in a bag you can easily keep on you and keep zipped shut. Some people suggest a cross-body bag. I wear a backpack myself because I like to keep my back balanced and I like to keep my hands free.
      When people say don't look like a tourist, it's not about how you dress. People who are good at pickpocketing know how to look for people who are distracted and won't notice they are being pickpocketed. If you catch one out, they will likely run away. They want to just grab and leave quickly and silently. So try not to be too distracted as you walk around - this means not looking down at your phone or a map. If you need to do these things, stop someplace where you can get comfortable and keep your back and your belongings safe while you consult your map or phone.
      Remain vigilant as you would in any big city. This is especially true when you are in high-crowd situations. I don't only mean at the train station or on the metro. I also mean inside the Sistine Chapel or another place where crowds can press you. People often get stressed by crowds because it's irritating, but in a crowded situation, I suggest not thinking about the crowd itself and how irritating it is, but about keeping your belongings close to you.
      I have more on this page:
      www.romewise.com/stay-safe-in-rome.html
      I hope that helps! Please don't worry to much. Just stay aware, use common sense, and enjoy your trip!

      Do the unique sole design of your white On Cloud sneakers scream “Tourist”, and likewise, would a bit of color on the back of the heal make the wearer stand out? I have been watching videos about blending in and not standing out as a tourist.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me, comfort is key. I am not a tourist but I don't care if I look like one or not. Rome (and most other big cities in Italy) are jam-packed with tourists and you would blend in with everyone, tourist or not. But if you'd prefer to not look like a tourist, there are some tips that are not actually to do with my white On Cloud shoes. Many Romans I know wear white sneakers/trainers these days. it's much more about what you pair them with. So pairing them with baggy jeans and long khaki shorts does scream tourist. Pairing them with snug-fitting tapered jeans or with a skirt or more fitted long shorts would not peg you as a tourist.

      Mid May to end of May it can get hot, like high 20's (80's) especially during the day. I suggest you wear cotton skirts, dresses, or linen or capri pants, a tank top or t-shirt + a cardigan or scarf for entering churches and/or if it's cooler than you thought it would be.

    • @Romewise

      Yes, it will be a bit cooler than in Rome, and in spring in Italy in general, it can be chilly and damp. I'd always suggest layers and make sure you have at least one waterproof shell or outer layer. In my opinion, in the north as well as in Rome, it's not yet time for open-toed shoes. I suggest jeans, sneakers/trainers, cotton tops, cardigans, light jackets and always a scarf!

      If you will have access to a laudromat, you can bring fewer clothes. I suggest bringing things you can mix and match.
