- I always prided myself in being a minimalistic traveller, but I don't think I've ever done personal item only for over a week, so this is a new achievement for me! Another reminder for any plus size girlies like myself, that you can be a carry on only traveller, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hallelujah! Finally a minimalist who packs pajamas!
First, I absolutely LOVE that hair on you! You always give me inspiration on packing light and outfit ideas. Yes, even us less than curvaceous people appreciate your videos as well 🥰
Thank you for the support Kendra! 💖
Girl you are awesome! I'm plus size and am blown away by the amount of versatile clothes you were able to fit into that very stylish backpack! Great ideas for my upcoming 5 day trip! Keep up the good work! Blessings from NYC. Love your videos! 👍
I’m so glad I can help provide some inspo for you! Have a great upcoming trip :)
The best thing I ever bought was from a shop here called Paco. It's a reversible summer dress. The 'lining' is a different design and colour and when you turn it inside out, you have a completely different dress! It's also very light for packing and roles up really small! I have used it so much when travelling!
It's great when you find that perfect travel item. For me it's a tunic dress that I can wear as a dress in summer or an overdress or shirt (knot the end or half tuck) in cooler weather. My best purchase ever. But your paco sounds a bit like the Diane Kroe resort dress, that I've been drooling over for a while
I'm very impressed. FYI, I lost a lot of weight, but even at 125 lbs. I wear a large, so my clothes still take up a lot of space in my luggage. 😥
I'm really enjoying your videos. I just added them to my playlist. I do a lot of traveling myself and many times it's just for a few days so I really like to take just the personal item. I also keep a box of laundry detergent sheets at home so I can throw a few of them in my bag. They take absolutely no space and are nice to have for a quick wash up for something you can wear again on your trip. Keep the videos coming. You have great tips.
So glad I found another Plus Size traveler like myself! Great video - and I subbed, too!
Im so glad you enjoyed the video!
You are stunning and have great style! Thank you for the inspirational video. I always pack minimal clothing, but it always feels boring; your video gave me the confidence to just swap out my tops and play around with outfits that I’d feel great in. Thank you, sweet lady!
I thought it was impossible to pack for 2 weeks in a personal item, now I'm a believer thanks to you, great video❤
My anxiety was spiking the entire time but my old got its jollies at the end. I could never as a size 28/30 but a girl can dream.
Always look forward to your packing videos. Please do more, I always learn something. I have changed my packing style although not quite there yet. But progressing!
Thank you for the support Hiromi! I’m glad you liked the video :)
Good tips! I am actually going to the UK in May and since I'm flying multiple airlines, I don't want to worry about losing my luggage. I'm planning on taking carry-on only. My husband says I won't be able to do it, so we shall see!
Great video and it’s fab to see someone who is packing larger clothes too. Now I need to get some lightweight dresses! 😊
Very elegant and chic. Your eyes and hair are just to die for. Bless you
Thank you so much!
LOVE your videos! So many great tips that have helped me with my recent trips. I would love to see a favorite clothing video with your must have easy to travel pieces. I'm always looking for new plus size brands that wear and travel well.
Oh that would be a great video idea, but I’m actually still on the hunt for good plus size brands that wear and travel well 😅 I have a travel favourites video up already that’s still quite current, but it doesn’t cover clothes. Will definitely keep this idea in mind if I find some good plus size brands!
Sis, love this & pleased I found your video. I'm going underseat bag for 10 days in Spain, wish me luck.❤
By the way, this hair colour suits you so much you look stunning - Thanks for sharing, I am planning on going to Mexico from the UK in a carry on only, which I've never done xx
Thank you so much! It’s actually a wig, but my absolute dream hair colour. Enjoy your Mexico trip, carry on only creates way less hassle :)
@@lifeofdanie Well, you should definitely try this colour permanently, thank you so much, I will let you know how it went
Thank you for this. In a few days I'm leaving the UK for sunnier climes and also with just a personal back back.
Your video has helped me to reign in my overpacking and get my clothes into one packing cube. Now its just the makeup, sunglasses, electricals and we're off!
Love to hear it!
@@lifeofdanie It was great. Just a smallish back pack with everything for two weeks
It could have done for two months as well.
Just shows how little we need.
I have just travelled with a personal item back pack and similar items and it worked beautifully. I have added a black skort as it does double duty. My clothes are predominantly black so I add a couple of colourful scarves as they vary my outfits and I'm a messy eater so they hide stains. I don't think I can ever go back to my rollon carryon as a back pack is so much easier.
Love that! I try not to do just backpack very often just because I have health issues and can’t carry something heavy on my back all the time and I like my rolling carry on, but once in a while backpack only works perfectly for me as well!
@@lifeofdanie That's a good point. Backpacks can get heavy.🙂
@@helenascribe210I love what Sarah Murdoch (Travels With Sarah) says about backpacks. "A backpack keeps you honest". It constantly reminds you not to do too much shopping etc
That was awesome… I was very doubtful you could pull it off. I loved this video!!❤️
You are amazing! I'm inspired to try and pack my most minimal yet! We have been traveling with a carry on only for years, but I always over stuff it and don't end up wearing everything anyway! Thank you for sharing.
You look amazing so it wouldn’t matter if you only brought just a toothbrush, but holy cow you just gave me a simplification goal…just let the container contain. Love these kinds of videos!
Oh my goodness, you’re too sweet! Thank you 💖 and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
It’s great to see a fellow plus size traveller - thank you. The only thing I would say though that here in England the weather can be so changeable - it’s not impossible to go through all four seasons in a day! - and you didn’t appear to have any wet gear or gear for cold weather. As you say though, shopping is easy here and it’s not difficult to buy stuff here, but for anyone else travelling it’s something to bear in mind. For example, when I lived in Asia going to the beach was so easy - swimsuit, towel, top and shorts to change into after, sun tan lotion, sun glasses, and sun hat. Didn’t even need a bag for it all. When I go to the beach here it’s all of that, plus an extra towel (to wrap round me if the wind gets up), cardigan and/or fleece top in case it suddenly gets cold ( the wind can be biting if the sun goes in behind a cloud) , tracksuit bottoms, socks, ( ditto) and waterproof jacket - plus usually a waterproof mat to sit on, that I wrap round me if it suddenly starts to rain (as happened this summer - an hour later we were back in warm sunshine!).
Ive just finished packing for a few days (4) away here in England - thick fleece jacket (will wear on journey), trainers ( ditto) 5 cotton short sleeved t shirts, 3 long sleeved ones (may not need all - depends on weather - if it’s cold can layer one long sleeved one over another short sleeved one), 1 warm co ordinating jersey, 1 lightweight cardigan (I can also wear it in bed if it gets chilly), 3 pairs of trousers, 3 pairs of socks, undies, waterproof poncho (generous one that covers everything and also has a hood, yet packs down small) , umbrella (tiny folding one), 1 pair pyjamas, pair of fluffy socklets with non slip feet that act as slippers, make up bag, Ipad, jewellery roll (small one), cables to charge up Ipad and I phone ( extra long cables, and charger), ear plugs, small pack of tissues, plastic bag (for dirty laundry), and eye mask to block extraneous light.. This time of year - November - also a woolly hat and gloves are added in. I could stretch that lot out to last a week if needed - and yes, it does all fit in my carry on bag, but only just, using compression packing cubes. Increasingly though I’m swapping out my pjs for dual outfits - ie in summer a big t shirt instead of a nightie, or a thin cami top if it’s hot, and lightweight shorts, or in winter a pair of slinky trousers with a similar top - they can then be also used in the day as clothes in an emergency if absolutely pushed (as happened to a friend when she was in an accident and was delayed by a day or so). However I absolutely get what you mean about the extra space needed for us plus size ladies! Thank you again for this excellent video, and I hope you had a great time in the UK.
Yes, that was my first reaction but then I remembered that Danie is cold blooded. If you watched her packing video for Summer in Greece vs what she took for winter in Korea you kinda get the feel.
For me, as an Aussie, I'd approach summer travel in the UK like shoulder season most other places, but I don't feel you need quite as much stuff as you've listed (eg. if I take 3 t-shirts I feel I'm being excessive) 🤷♀️ Although if some of those tees will be worn as nightwear I can kinda see where you're coming from? (I don't travel with nightwear as a general rule - I'll take lounge wear that I can sleep or exercise in too, and I'll hope I can supplement with hotel robes; altho if I'm going to be going hostels/guesthouses route, I'll take a kimono or shirt dress that can double as a robe for showering situation)
I don’t think I’ve been called cold blooded before 😂 interesting insight!
@@lifeofdanielol, I've heard you talk about this in winter videos
@susie9893 really?? Wow I have to go back to watch myself, don’t remember that at all lol
@@lifeofdanie may have been my interpretation but I swear I remember something about being cold blooded, or not being warm blooded? I just watched it again a few hours ago.
Have you taken down one of your travel videos? I can't seem to find the winter packing try-on one you did
Edit: never mind, I found it in recommendeds after another video of yours I was watching. But I had been trying to find it in your videos list, which was quite short when I checked it several times (only about 10 videos, I kept thinking "this can't be right!"). But now it's heaps longer - I'm assuming back to full length.
I dunno if it's TH-cam generally, or just my yt app, but it's been glitching heaps over last few months
I just got home from two weeks in the UK for a wedding. Packed in a personal item and an under seater suitcase 😎
Amazing! Love it :)
Yup, totally possible. Just have to have the right gear. I have, what I think of as, my perfect destination wedding dress. It's black&white so can wear to black&white only dress code, it's full length so formal appropriate, it looks great (always a plus), and never wrinkles (biggest plus of all!). I also have a wrap jacket that goes with it - the material has a slight sheen so can be worn to formal events, but it's super comfortable so I can wear it generally as a wrap in the evenings. Mix and match all the way has got to be the rule when you travel for events
I love this video! I have only had to pack in a personal item 1x and it was a winter destination. It was SO hard and I’m pretty positive my dimensions were off by an inch or so both ways. I love watching your videos on how to minimize what I pack!
Oh yeah packing carry on only for winter is hard, I know from experience when I did it this last winter!
My initial thought was "that sounds impossible" but I guess it would depend on how long you were going for, what you were doing and how severe was the cold?
Ooh, I love your red hair. It makes your eyes really pop. Off topic, I know. Fellow plus size packer. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you 🥰 glad you liked the video!
This was seriously impressive! Best minimal packing I’ve ever seen! Bravo!
Thank you so much! Appreciate that :)
A masterclass in minimalism. Excellent video, Danie.😊
Thank you for the support, Darin!
You are gorgeous! Thank you so much for this video. I’m trying to embrace packing minimally, and your video helped alot❤.
So happy to hear my video helped give you inspo!
As a queen sized person, I really appreciate the hints. I am planning a three-week trip and am DETERMINED to do it in a backpack. I REALLY want to know what that sleepwear is that packs so super small. I am thinking of taking a tee dress that I can also sleep in.
My go to sleepwear is a thin t shirt and shorts which is why it packs so small! No more than 2 sets, no matter how long I go for, hope that helps :) t shirt dresses work super well too!
Omgggg this hair on you!!!😍🤩😍 And so excited to see this video!!! I just ordered that backpack today after being on the fence for weeks about it!!!
Thank you 🥰🥰 I hope you love the backpack as much as I do!
Love this video! Thank you for sharing!
Girlllllll I am IMPRESSED. I’m a plus sized girlie too and I was lucky to get 3 nights in a carryon. 🤣
Do you hand wash clothes in the sink when you travel, or go somewhere and do laundry?
I’m most often staying in houses so I have laundry available, if not, hand washing the essentials and finding a laundromat :)
Your hair color is so pretty on you! Great packing.
Thank you :) it’s a wig, but my favourite indeed!
Oooooh, you are sooooo cute! Like your packing method 😊
Thank you for this video!! Super helpful!!
Your coloring is 🔥
Awesome job. You proved that you can travel well without taking a lot of stuff. ❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
If you were to go to a nice restaurant or theatre what shoes would you wear? Maybe you should pack a clutch a use it as a packing cube when not in use for formal occasions.
I dont often go to places where I need to dress up too much and won’t pack stuff like that unless I definitely plan it, I just don’t find it worth while to pack something I may use only once!
@@lifeofdanie makes sense
Danie's right. If you must have heels you can always shop for them (and 2nd hand shops can be a surprisingly good resource), but for my part (bcos I resent taking time out of my generally packed travel schedule, to shop) I tend to take a pair of foldable but dressy looking flats. These can then act as the pair of shoes you shuffle around your hotel/hostel/B&B in, to have a break from walking shoes. I'm always glad to have taken them and my pair are about the size of my fist. It's an option to consider.
With regard to a dressy clutch, I just have a phone wallet (phone case with room for a few cards etc) that is dressy enough to act as an evening purse.
Unless you're going totally formal (which is usually an event you know about in advance) these scenarios can all be covered by thinking outside the box
Oh i would need way more clothes because I sweat terribly. Plus hot rollers and curling iron.😢
I have hyperhidrosis so I totally get you, but I just wash my stuff more often!
Love your airplane pants and your dresses. Where do you purchase them from? Do you bring a water bottle and some healthy food for the airplane? How do you fit them into the backpack? Thanks for all the tips.
Most of my clothes are from H&M! The dresses are from a store called LC Waikiki though. And I usually do bring food and a water bottle for the airplane, but not when my flight is like 2 hours, so mostly just for longer journeys
You're so glamorous❤
I just want to tell you you are looking very fierce today
Can you do a video on doing laundry in Europe?
Anything in particular you’re wondering about? I don’t find doing laundry in Europe much different from North America except the lack of dryers :)
@dndanie the lack of dryers yes... are they coin operated and what coins? Card operated?
Have you considered the subtle beauty makeup for travelling? I'm on the fence
I have always had laundry machines in the accommodations I travel in, so I don’t really use laundromats here, but they are all coin operated from what I know, some nicer ones may allow card but would be more expensive.
Regarding your second point, that’s actually funny you ask because I plan on heading back to Canada for a little bit soon and ordering a subtle beauty makeup stack to try out and review for my travel, so a video will be coming about that in a few months, I know they are costly but I would say if you’re on the fence, to consider what you value, saving space, ease of use or are you attached to specific makeup items!
Many travel vloggers say laundromats in Europe tend to be a lot more expensive in Europe anyway. Far better to rent a B&B around halfway through your trip that has laundry access (or stay with family/friends if that's a possibility).
And handwashing as you go is the best way to stay on top of the undies + socks situation
I had faith in you Dani 😀
Thank you!
Great work! Love the two dresses you showed-any links to where they are from? Also a plus sized freq traveling lady who struggles to fit things into a carryon. My smaller friends who pack cropped tops, bikinis and thongs with ease just don’t understand!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I just got these two dresses at LC Waikiki - I don’t know where in the world you are so I’m not certain if you have the store around you :)
Just bcos you're plus sized doesn't mean you can't travel minimally. For a beach holiday I would suggest swim bike shorts, cos can also be worn as shorts. And a swim bra you can also wear as a bra (even if you're conscious about showing your midriff there are crop top bra swim tops that look good, pack minimally and can be worn as camis etc).
Highly recommend kimonos and shirt dresses for beach vacations vs maxi dresses - much more versatile (almost endless options).
Yes, you will be wearing the same items repeatedly, but be creative and you can wear them in many different ways.
As with all travel, you will have to learn to be ruthless with yourself when it comes to packing. That sundress or swimsuit you've been saving for this trip might not make the cut if it can't combine in multiple ways with the other clothes you take
Hi, just wondering how comfortable it is on a long flight if you have such a large bag u dear the seat. How can you stretch your legs? How healthy is it to sit cramped in a seat with reduced keg room? Thanks!
Ive never had issues, as this bag under the seat still gives me space to stretch my feet, just more narrow. In reality I don’t travel with just this bag for long haul flights. I do this when I travel with budget airlines due to their strict luggage restrictions, and most of the budget airlines are short haul flights. I always take a carry on suitcase and this backpack but much less filled on long haul flights since those have pretty normal luggage rules!
I guess it depends how tall you are? I'm average height (for women) and find that often the underseat bag is helpful - if there is a footrest it tends to be in the wrong position for me but the bag will be just right for me to extend my legs but have a footrest.
Altho I tend to sleep curled up so it's not really an issue for me anyway. More for when I'm sitting chillin than when trying to sleep
Do you have a link for the sling? It's so cute!
Isn’t it cute! I do have it linked in my description actually, under “My favourite travel backpack/sling!”
When I clicked on that link, it says the referral think expired and just goes to the Monos homepage.
@priscillamcdougald6133 how strange! Thank you for letting me know, I have since updated the link :)
Hi, do you know if the backpack is accepted as a personal item on Qatari airways? Thanks
I’ve used this backpack as a personal item on more airlines than I can count, of course if you stuff it too full they may not allow it, but I’ve never had a problem anywhere
Frontier charged me $96 for my fanny pack--small--that had my meds inside which I needed immediatly onboard!
That’s horrible! Unfortunately the super budget airlines in the states especially are very strict
That doesn't sound legal to me. Essential meds don't count. You should have pursued this thru legal imo
Loved the video and explanations! Can I ask how many liters the backpack can store?
Glad you liked the video! Had to look this up because I had no idea, but apparently this monos backpack has a capacity of 18 litres!
@@lifeofdanie wow, that’s so impressive you were able to fit all that in the backpack! Keep up the good work❤️
I’m honestly a bit surprised myself! Didn’t realize it was that small
Do yuo have any info on the anti-chafing shorts, please?? Thank you!
I’ve honestly gotten any nude coloured shape wear shorts from places like Primark, or even simply Amazon!
You can get shaping shorts as Danie suggests but I like dual functionality so I have ones that I can wear swimming also (or workout in). I also have an ultralight pair that are basically stocking material, with the advantage that they dry super fast when I rinse them out
How did you became a nomad ?
Im going to be making a video all about how I became a nomad very soon!
You travel a lot you must have a good job what do you do?
I don’t actually have that good of a job, I’m just really budget savvy and keep my expenses down! Especially since I work as I travel :)
Minimalistic is not a word.
Last I looked in a dictionary it is :)
@@lifeofdanie Tell me then. What is the difference between minimalist and “minimalistic?”
In which dictionary did you find it?
@fredflintstone2234 a simple search shows it in practically every dictionary, it’s a related adjective to minimalist 🤷🏻♀️
@@lifeofdanie you refuse to answer the question. Noted. Minimalist is an adjective already. So what is minimalistic?
Funny you think me not answering gives you the upper hand or something, considering I just don’t want to do the simple work of a google search for you. You have 10 second to write a useless comment but not do a search? Interesting
...the bag she shows at the beginning of the video is too big for a standard personal item... immediately knew this video wasn't going to be helpful
Interesting how I’ve travelled with this bag for over a year as my personal item on all budget airlines and have never had an issue 🤷🏻♀️
Brilliant job just about organised for friends holiday in two weeks🧳🛍️🥳😵💫Spring chill break 🕊️🎒🏝️ 😌😊
