You should check the weather reports for 5-6 years ago, find out what the winter and spring were like, and the next time you get those conditions, go back to that spot. It could be they were there during a dry winter/spring, or maybe a windy, cool spring. OnX should give an option to put Weather conditions on waypoints, then, when conditions match on a following year, you could go back and see if a pocket of browns found previously gives the same results.

Solid idea. Honestly I think recent fires have changed their patterns and winter grounds.
