An Epic Hunt for Big Elk - NUMBERS

  • When you spend most of your time hunting and are dedicated mainly to hunting mule deer, your points for other species will quickly rise. That’s exactly what happened to Brady Miller, who has spent much of his life chasing mule deer across the West, filling his addiction. In the meantime, he builds points for elk, and only applies for the best hunts in the West as he is okay waiting to draw an elk tag. With the high number of elk points he carries across the West, his patience finally paid off and put him at great draw odds to draw a great muzzleloader elk tag. Join Brady as he looks through countless numbers of elk in search of the one.

    I think the thing I like most about watching Brady hunt is his calm demeanor. His respect for the land, the animal, and the hunt is obvious. No whooping and hollering after the shot, just quiet respect. You’re a true sportsman Brady!

      @@twinengineer Excitement is a big part of the experience. I just feel like the yelling and screaming and comments like “you smoked him!!!” aren’t very mature and show disrespect for the animal. I think it’s important to remember that you’ve just ended a life.

      Sometimes, depending one the states’ license and tag fees, it can cost you as much as, if not more, than a guided hunt would lol but it is great to see it done this way.

    Great hunt and hat off to Brady for patience and determination to make his tag work. Question - I haven't been able to find out what muzzle loader he was using for the hunt? Looked amazing given the elevation adjustment peep sight in the back and quick reloading. Was there a reason why he didn't use a scope on the gun?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Greatly, greatly appreciate that. Brady really wanted to do this tag justice and it while it was heartbreaking for him to walk away from that bull as he couldn't see through his peep with legal shooting light left, it was the best decision he could have ade. The muzzleloader setup is made by Arrowhead Rifles out of Arizona. They make amazing rifles and muzzleloaders!! It's setup in 45 cal and is their Orion package muzzy with a Revic Exo adjustable muzzy sight on top. That peep sight setup is very nice being able to adjust for distance. Shooting 300 grain NSR bullets with Blackhorn 209 primers. And the stock is a McMillan Game Warden 2.0. The reason he didn't use a scope is the state he was hunting requires hunters to use peep sights. So it added an extra challenge to the hunt, but one that Brady was excited for.

      That bull was so cool! Even if that bull wasn't going to score as high as Brady's bull... it would just be unique to say you shot an 8x9 bull.

    can someone explain to me why its so coveted to “draw” this tag? like how does it work can anyone not buy a bull elk tag?

    • @GOHUNT
      @GOHUNT  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Happy to help. And great question. You need to apply in a draw for an elk tag in the state Brady was hunting. And then you build up points each year you don't draw. Which are basically then more names in the hat each year you keep applying. And in this state, they don't give out many elk tags, so it's typically a very long wait to draw a bull tag. Thanks for watching!

    • @GOHUNT

      Brady is using the MDT Ckye Pod Gen 2 single pull bipod. He uses it on all his firearms and loves it. But the cost is pretty scary.

    The Elk (Cervus canadensis), also known as the wapiti is a large deer species native to North America and Eastern Asia, it is the largest of the six extant deer species constituting the genus Cervus and the second largest deer species alive today, with only the Moose (Alces alces) being larger, the closest living relative of the elk is the Hangul (Cervus hanglu) that resides in Central Asia, there are fifteen known subspecies of elk: the Tibetan Elk (Cervus canadensis wallichii), the Kansu Elk (Cervus canadensis kansuensis), the Sichuan Elk (Cervus canadensis macneilli), the Mongolian Elk (Cervus canadensis mongoliensis), the Alashan Elk (Cervus canadensis alashanicus), the Tian Shan Elk (Cervus canadensis songaricus), the Manchurian Elk (Cervus canadensis xanthopygus), the †Korean Elk (Cervus canadensis coreanus), the Siberian Elk (Cervus canadensis sibiricus), the Roosevelt Elk (Cervus canadensis roosevelti), the Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus canadensis nelsoni), the Tule Elk (Cervus canadensis nannodes), the †Merriam's Elk (Cervus canadensis merriami), the Manitoba Elk (Cervus canadensis manitobensis), and the †Algonquin Elk (Cervus canadensis canadensis).

    Spending a bunch of money buying points and a tag to sit around on your butt and look through binoculars then walking up and killing something. I’d rather spend my money skiing, biking or climbing.

      I don’t believe in talking about the state. So I keep it out of my films and hunts. More so out of respect for either locals who might live and hunt there more often, or people who randomly are applying for the same area to not blow up spots. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed the film.
