    As someone who fell in love with the original PSO1 this year, it took me months to give PSO2 NGS a shot due the massive amount of hate everywere, specially the "classic PSO2 is better" comments alongside "classic PSO2 was left in a terrible state" ones.
    It creates a loop where a new player doesnt know which one to play first, since it awakes the curiosity of trying the old one because of all these comments, but also rejection due them also saying that its abandoned and in a bad state.
    Eventually I ended up trying NGS, and game is much better than the average review says, started during nameless city update so that also adds to it ofc, but yeah this is one of the most divided community i've seen in an online game.

      This response is gold and sums up in great light what I'm trying to convey in the video. Giving insight through the eyes of someone who is actually a fairly newer player & has experienced this very recently firsthand.
      This is the exact thing I'm referring to.

    I think some of them are fair and valid concerns, I will acknowledge the time that NGS came out wasn't the best time, especially what was going on with the world at the time, but people are concerned with the game, and what is happening to it upon release up until now, people have made comparisons between global released version, and the Japanese version and when stuff was coming out, so people will compare them, as you would naturally expect the successor to build on top of its predecessor and have even more stuff not less.
    And almost 4 years later ( I think) it is still missing stuff that base game had, and people have the right to be concerned about that

    • @Spikesxu
      @Spikesxu  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Concerns are perfectly well & justified. That's not really what we're focused on here. What the focal point was, is that the community was divided by people who could not accept NGS and would thus gatekeep. Spread toxicity and virtually set to ruin the experience of anyone who enjoyed(s) NGS. This plagued NGS Global HEAVILY during its first year and would prove detrimental to its overall growth. If the community of an MMO is never allowed to establish at its beginning, it will pay heavily for it.
      I used this comparison in another response.
      Imagine your favorite small bar upgrades to a sports bar, but it's the same owners & same location. You don't like that they became a sports bar. So you go there every day, including opening day, & sit at the table closest to the door & hound everyone who walks in about how the new bar is trash & the old one was so much better. And every time someone makes it past you & starts to enjoy their night, your response to everything is, "Why are you enjoying yourself? The old bar was much more enjoyable".
      This very much sums up aspects of the what existed(s) on Global side of the community, extremely well. You'll see in the pinned comment on this video from a newer player, that did a great job at describing the experience that they recently had as a new player a few months ago. That comment is precisely the type of issue that's being addressed here.
      Side Note, as this was not the focal point of what was being addressed:
      Also, to note, 3 years into PSO2 Base (2015), it was not as if it was some sort of heavenly period. I was there. Also, when you state, "it's missing some of the stuff base had". - This is another issue. PSO2 NGS is not PSO2 Base. People have to wrap their head around that, yet people struggle with doing so. The franchise needed a new direction, and that was the point of New Genesis. The game is different from base. It is not meant to be exactly like base. And it should not be exactly like base. That would entirely defeat the purpose of creating something new. PSO followed the same exact format for 20 years from PSO 1 Dreamcast release in 2000, up until the release of New Genesis in 2021. New Genesis was always meant to break away from 20 years of the same.

    I’m confused about the topic i had to watch the vid 3 times. I know that a lot of Ngs player no nothing of base which is dumb and there are heavy gate keepers in the base market. but to me that’s Sega’ s fault for not making a better connection with both games stripping mission passes and concerts and events form base .To give new players incentives to actually enjoy base like when it hit global. Because base was amazing and there’s gonna be Toxicity in any game we play. that’s just the nature of the beast I avoid them at all cost😅

    To be honest I always felt a bit disconnected from the base game community because i never got a chance to play it before ngs, and it always just felt weird to not be able to understand why people hate ngs so much or why some former base game players don't choose to interact with newer ngs players.

    • @Spikesxu

      And see, what you're saying here, I'm sure many can relate with. The gatekeeping has plagued NGS Global heavily since its release in this regard (has gotten much better though). And was detrimental for it in its early stages. As, it turned away any potential new players for a very long time and created a disconnect within the community. Which helped to foster & nourish to the toxic community that thrived for so long.

    Ignoring the problems because they're not yours is not going to help the game. People left for a reason and haven't returned for that reason. Whether you like it or not, the game is suffering and will continue to do so till the problems are fixed. I will say Nameless City is probably the best content the released thus far, Luciel being 2nd, but that's not saying much since the content release is so far in between. I may stick around in the game for a bit longer but might just take another year or two of hiatus till something drastic changes because this does not look good, at least on the US side of things.

    when i was but a newbie in the base PSO2, i was in a Clan that invited me randomly (because of course thats how that works) and i was treated horribly!
    till this day idk wtf their problem was, one of them got angry and i clamed up, realizing weather i spoke or not didn't matter and would only escalate the issue, then they dropped me off
    into a Clan that was basically dead, WHILE STILL allowing me in their discord then got mad when i joined their calls (why remove someone from a clan only to keep them in the discord is beyond me)
    keep in mind i was a newbie and didn't know wtf i was doing, and that experience not only made me hate the community, but the game as a whole, why play a game if the community makes you fear playing it!?

      Sorry about your experience in Base. As, that sounds pretty horrible for a newbie to have to go through. I definitely do not blame you for the sour taste that, that one has left in your mouth. I never played on Global Base, as I started playing PSO2 back when it was released on JP in 2012. But from my understanding, toxicity was pretty widespread in Global Base. Especially considering how the soil was able to be poisoned so early on in NGS's life.

    Happened for me several times when l asked the base game things from the old people they were upset about my questions . It just like base game is their own game we ngs new players shouldn't ask or touch it , l hope sega just separate the base and ngs at least in global . Some people concerned about the game doesn't mean they have to spread toxicity to others . The new players are innocent , people hate everything around them got nowhere to spread hates , they chose the innocent new players for spreading their negatives. It's bad and also evil . Everyone are just equal and normal

    • @Spikesxu
      @Spikesxu  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. One of the biggest issues is that you often see these players essentially prey on unsuspecting players. Often, these are newer players. Targeting them as fresh meat to attempt to ruin their experience. Anyone that will allow them to talk crazy, they will talk crazy to. Most people have no idea what they're getting into until it's too late.

    Base and NGS each have their own strengths and weaknesses. I don’t shame anyone who likes one but dislikes the other, as long as they are respectful about it.
    That said, I’ll never forgive SEGA for dropping a nuke on the base market. The hyper inflation from Cradle drops just ruined so much. I would go back and play with people, but my friends see those player market prices and lose all motivation to play. 😂
    Edit: Also, at this point, base is truly a dead game. I log in for casino here and there and maybe see 8 people on ship 2. Hope SEGA just gives us casino in NGS at some point.

      Truthfully, there's no real reason for a new (or old) player to go to base if they were drawn in by NGS itself. It's entirely their choice to do so however of course if curious.

    "No game will 100% satisfy everything that you want" They can certainly come close, people just gotta keep looking. I'll be honest I'm not really sure what the main take away from this video is. Are people going around giving others a hard time just ranting about how much they hate this game? What's happening?

    • @Spikesxu
      @Spikesxu  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, no they can come close. But everything has its flaws. There is no such thing as an absolutely "perfect" MMO. And the use of the word "perfect", is subjective in the first place. In regards to understanding what has historically happened in NGS, basically Base PSO2 came first. Base PSO2 was released in 2012 in Japan. However, Global side it was released in 2020. New Genesis, the follow up to Base PSO2 was released in 2021. During that period, Global players were essentially fed 8 years of content in the span of a year.
      This would actually turn to create a huge issue within the global community & how NGS was received. Long story short, you essentially had gatekeepers that spent all their time on NGS complaining about how bad NGS was & how better base was. Essentially turning away any potential new players and creating a rift in the community. This also paved way for a toxic culture to nurture & flourish in Global. Pretty much, people who couldn't let go of the past & because they were unhappy, were going to make sure everyone was unhappy; Immediately poisoning any and everyone's experience with the game. Specifically, new players who had/have no idea what Base PSO2 even was, but would instead cause confusion.
      That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell lol.

      @@Spikesxu I wasn't the most social player so I guess this all swung by me. I feel like I experienced reverse gatekeeping indirectly, I wanted to play Base Global before NGS but my friends weren't interested in joining BECAUSE of NGS's early announcement and I wasn't interested in playing alone, a decision I regret. I really can't blame peoples bitterness with the game.
      I can also understand people are long sick of hearing rants about the game. It's a complicated issue, people want the game to be good (by their standards) but I don't know why they haven't walked away at this point, it's not gonna fundamentally change for them. Though I never really understood NGS's vision, something I can't say about any other game, don't know if theres anything to discuss there or just more long repeated criticisms, I still had some fun with the content it's just a weird structure.

      The 3 main issues with the game I see.
      1. Advertising the game like a zoomer shooter/looter for 3 years. The game is actually pretty traditional ARPG with a creative player approach.
      2. Being to beholden to “fixing” the weapon crafting system for 3 years. Sure to establish players the simplified and more direct find an item out the stuff in it was nice, but this isn’t a beat it once game. Finally they are adding randomness to weapon drops, longer living pity weapons, and armor and more places needed to make this happen.
      3. Not competing against their own content. This goes for SEGA as a whole and NGS in game. Too many times you can see NGS getting stuff shifted around SMT5, Sonic, and Unicorn Chronicles; SEGA just give us the stuff. This compounds on them not also wanting to have to constantly change their old content in a meaningful way because this would kill the “new thing”.

    I've had a few friends pick up NGS, and they saw the hate towards it, and they ask me what that was all about, and originally they were not gonna play it until they were bored one day and tried it and they actually liked the game. I told them what that was all about and they said "Soo... tl;dr, people were just pissy the game isn't what they were wanting it to be or expecting it to be, but persist on still playing the game but they clearly don't like the game?" and I told them "Yeah, pretty much". They pretty much were in disbelief and can't fathom why someone would force themselves to play something they *very clearly* don't like or having fun. And that's another thing too, like yes, I get it's hard to accept that hey, maybe the game is no longer for you anymore, but it's something people need to get a grip with. Like yeah you don't like it, but honestly, ask yourself, are you really going to like NGS if you very much don't like it now? No, you'll only continue to dislike it more and more.
    If I may be bold here, yes... NGS ain't perfect, there's no such thing as "the perfect MMO". Because if it was perfect, it would be boring. And neither is the base game either, base game ain't perfect, I can find a myriad of things to bitch about in both games, but don't because they were already resolved or it is what it is(Except the personal shop, I will bitch and moan about it's search parameters till the end of time, it's literally shit, but that's not related here). Despite NGS' flaws, and from how I've heard from fellow alliance members who have played JP before moving to global. I may not have played JP and only played since global launch on both games, but NGS has only been out for 3 years, and it's caught up with Base(Episode 6 base, before Cradle) in terms of wanting to play, and just gameplay in general, in *significantly* less time than it took for base to get to where it is now.
    "Base is more fun!" Yes, *for you.* I like both, but honestly, I much prefer NGS, and that mainly stems from a lot of the qualms I've had with base, just do not exist in NGS because they were either rectified or Sega was smart for once and probably looked at it and said "Wow... This is actually dogshit" or "This was a neat gimmick then, but nowadays? Nah, this needs to change." Especially as of late they've been cooking.

    The people who grumble about base game being better are the same people who continue to raise picket signs in NGS. Anyone and everyone can still play it at anytime which I find it a plus that SEGA has given us two games in one so there shouldn't be any complaints, but we are still going to have people who complain just for the sake of complaining.
    At this point, base game has become a sanctuary for the people who still love it to do whatever they want since the majority of the playerbase has shifted to NGS. Both games have their pros and cons but we have a choice of one or the other or neither. It stinks that some of the new player's curiosity of trying the base game gets twisted by illogical biased opinions and behaviors.

      Most definitely! Base PSO2 had a great run of 9 years, and still has servers that are up. The fact that the servers are even still up in the first place & that mechanics of Base can translate over to NGS, such as Star Gems, is already a huge plus for people.

    Ngs is the experience in a new direction. Both are perfect 🤤🤤

    • @Spikesxu
      @Spikesxu  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      NGS experience was indeed intended to be an evolution of the franchise. One that was completely necessary. I wouldn't say Base was "fan service", however. As, it just simply followed the exact same format as the previous games dating back to 2000. At the time of its (PSO2 Base) release in 2012, this made sense. However, releasing another PSO that followed that same format as all the prior PSOs had, at the time NGS was released in 2021, would not have been the correct thing to do. Base had a phenomenal 9 year run and was a fun game.
      That being said, I do get what you're saying in regards to its Global launch being a type of fan-service. Especially considering it was released only a year prior to NGS's release.
      Realistically, PSO2 Base had exhausted everything left for the franchise to do with that format that they'd been using since 2000. Could we see a return to that format in the next installment (PSO3)? Sure. But at the very least, it was necessary for them to step away from it in order to reevaluate & allow the franchise to grow. Especially in an everchanging market/gaming landscape.
      Indeed, both experiences are unique in their own, and that's perfectly ok!
