I noticed something interesting the last time I logged into NGS. No one actually plays the game, the ones that are logged in just hang around the town with their sexy waifu toons.
Exactly. It's just a gloried lobby to park ur butt in and talk to ur friends on discord or something while ur toon endlessly emotes.
If only they were sexy
The webs ruin the game tbh, but is not complety their fault. The whole marketing of the game is FIX in selling "make your waifus kit", they dont give AF about gameplay or story, they just make the money selling cosmetics. You can say "Yeah, but PSO2 did the same" True, but the gameplay was far superior to this garbage, so is was a matter of balance.
I guess you’re one of them cause i know me and my buds are playing the game. Not to mention the social aspect is apart of the game. Much better than other mmos i see.
@@TN_Nadaclosi think people just cry too much
THEY KILLED BASE PSO2 FOR THIS FUCK
worst decision they done , and we will always hate them for that
you dont own anything why give them money
Lmao chill🪝
@@Yuzuruchanx It's even worse since it's less than 1 year the global version was released, this happened.
People need to at least play the story from EP1-6 and even spending the days on games during that time (pandemic) is not enough.
Fun fact: when this game was released on console, it actually managed to get to the top 10 most downloaded games on Playstation US/CAD (around #8 or #9)) and Japan (higher than US/CAD since their main market was obviously Japan), but quickly fell off the charts the following month, and it never again achieved the top 10.
The vast majority of people who tried the game just noped out. My reason for quitting was the restricted market for f2p, as well as the bare-bones open-world and the combat mechanics. Honestly, I kind of like that Marron girl aesthetic and personality-wise, but not enough to convince me to stay.
It seems like the game is still on the death spiral after all these years. The game has terrible player acquisition due to a lack of content and marketing because Sega is a publicly traded company, and shareholders and executives don't really want to bet their money to revive this game. And that kind of highlights the incompetent producer who can't even convince his boss to reinvest a little more money to create content for the game and maybe some marketing (youtube, ccs, billboards, train decals to attract salary men, etc.).
There's no saving this game. Sure, they can make a new game, but the era has changed. Modern live-service games demand constant content to sustain the playerbase. That's hard to do if you're Sega and the executives are old Japanese who hesitate to gamble their position and money.
Not to disagree with you but to add on: it's also the presentation, bro. It's BAD anime with character models (and general aesthetic [like the particles effects mentioned in the video]) that look utterly atrocious coupled with uninteresting gameplay.
Nah, the worst thing is Sega thinking it was ok to force you to download NGS, 70+ gigs of trash you’re probably not using, to download the original PSO2 as “DLC”. I would’ve been fine with playing PSO2 again if it wasn’t for the remaining space in my hard drive getting decimated.
they also lied about og pso2 will be a seperate download. that shit never happened. fucking frauds.
It should be THE OTHER WAY AROUND since PSO2--the original one--is the base game and NGS is expansion. They flipped it into people's frustration
@@lazyshadow5027 thing is they promised to seperate the two games but never delivered. I think we know why...
Major problems of NGS:
- Maladjusted weapons.
- Bad weapon variety.
- Augments prefer glass cannon over resistance. If you take a look at highend players, they all use the same augments, there is no variation. Copy&Paste.
- Class Bonus abuse. Just pick Hunter or Waker as sub and you have godmode on.
- Empty world with a couple enemy spawns (basically the Unreal Engine Tutorial, yes its zero effort).
- PSE used to be a reward, now you get them "like that".
- Everything is a Content island.
- Every new Content gets obsolete in the next patch. Remember Kaizaar and Reyaar Weapons? Why grind them, if you can get Eredim in less then 15 minutes or for 1k in the shop?
- Dead Areas no one plays in (the Gorge).
- Obsolete Quests, we are forced to play to get the highend Augments.
- Completely broken economy, which people use AC stuff as "RMT by proxy" and set moonprices. No limits, no impactful taxes, no punishment.
- No F2F trading.
- Redboxing.
- Betatesting "hard" content (Solus, Dalion), only the Top 10% can kill - just to give it out as an easier UQ version later.
- Giving lazy players a weapon which does no damage.
- Incoherent Story, which leaves more questions then answers.
- Keep adding more Gacha, instead of something to do. Compared to classic, where you a can always do something.
- Players want new planets, new areas - get "Unidenitfied Area Axx" made out of Cocoon "LEGO" instead.
- You can reach Level 90 in 4 days. IN 4 DAYS!!! In classic, this takes months.
- Every day always the same dailies.
- I saw more complexity in a couch from IKEA.
copy and paste augments because you can be immortal if you are pro at dodging attacks. Best to focus on attack so that you can finish fast. Remove invulnerability or make them like when parrying/dodging absorb only 50-30% damage taken and defense and healing would be greatly appreciated.
Keep adding gacha - they needed the funds. It's like a gacha mobile game.
I'm fine with no F2F trading. But they should increase the meseta gain from grinding or put a ceiling to prices.
Yes i want new area/planet/story but they lack funds which is why they follow gacha gambling system.
That's why i just stay with the Neos Astrean or don't upgrade unncessarily
Things are improving better waaay too slow. You also forgot to mention that rewards carry no weight. Doesn’t feel worth running something when rewards are slop (plus getting Resurgirs still…)
@@gamemaster21 as a slayer I have gone solo in high lvl single enemy UQs and got S rank and gone no damage several times in other UQ. Although as a slayer main I have noticed that the gunblade's weapon action doesn't always work even with perfect timing.
Tbh base game when it went global was a good 8 years worth of content and improvements.
At the beginning the game was sorely lacking in content. You would essentially go on expeditions to find story bits. Rinse repeat. Some found the gameplay fun enough to keep playing but many thought the story and structure of the game poor and that Sega ruined Phantasy Star.
Ngs has been going for 3 years now. 3 years into base pso2 was the release of episode 4, they had done away with the old mission structure/story and introduced a highschool setting. People were not happy, many believed Sega ruined Pso2.
Episode 5 introduced Hero and an isekai setting. I dunno if you know this but Hero was so broken and the implementations from Episode 5 were so poorly received people believed the game was done for and Sega ruined Pso2.
It took a long time for there to be so much fun content that we could enjoy when global came out. I say give the game a break and maybe come back years from now and there will be actual content to enjoy.
Sega's slow progress with content updates hasn't changed. But base Pso2 shows they can make great things after enough time.
It's a free game calm down Speed racer.
NGS is a mobile mmo trying to convince you it's not.
Lol
I wish it was lol😅
TRUTH!
I honestly wish it had a mobile client (ala Vita)
That would save me a lot of trouble trying to cloudstream it
it's a game with an identity crisis
My biggest problem is the waste of an open world. It's just an oversized tile set with respawning enemies. No NPCs with additional quest. No points or camps to defend or explore, dungeons, caves, etc. There is no lab in VLabs, no city in Lost Central. They really just reuse assets from Sonic, but in Sonic, you speed through areas. Nameless city, Leciel, the same dry lifeless tileset like why do we care that dolls or Starless are there no one inhabits these places or ever will.
The world is so bland. I tried Black Desert long ago. I was traveling from the starting zone which had many npcs with chatter riding horses and stuff. Same thing in the grasslands. I stumbled onto a small town, and I saw ships delivering cargo. I was like wtf. This is crazy cool.
@@shatteredsentient5321 at least in base lobby there would be the illusion of the cyber city, a PSO staple, but no we can't even get star cities in Phantasy STAR. They've been trolling us since Day 1 and i'm not even mad, I just want a good game, which NGS is decidedly not. ->PSO3 but I have little hope.
So much of this. it such waste of open world, especially nameless city. We could have been repopulated the city by now or atleast on the third zone, but no, they put another grinding zone there. I have hope for the Nameless City before but it just disappointment especially with the timer.
@@drlca6601 They need to just bring back the OG PSO formula with more QoL. Better animations and more content. Vanilla was best, and the music.
i agree so hard with how soulless the game feels, was my first nitpick when NGS released and still present to this day, just sad
Like, how did we go from iconic and full of personality characters like luther, quna, persona, even those class instructors to those random ass dolls bruh even the lame excuse for dark falz in NGS have 0 personality, the boss fights feel meaningless they literally dont even have voice lines or sum idk i hate it (pso2 base was also my favorite mmo by a mile)
i dropped playing PSO2 as soon as NGS was announced. The western hemisphere waited so many years for PSO2 to come out localized and then just months later say "sike! we have a new game that we are spending dev time on!" and that put me off immediately.
yeah they just used pso2 as bait
I just want a new single player, story driven Phantasy Star rpg. It's been so long.
But less like PSU and more like PSO Ep 1&2!
There’s a term for it, and it’s called:
Not Gonna Survive
They would seriously make so much money if they remastered PSO episode 1 & 2 and put it out, or hell just give us PSO2 as a standalone. I play PSU on a private server and its waaaaay more fun. Idk wtf sega is doing.
And to add insult to inhury is that PSO2 classic right there but they decide to stack NGS on it like a tumor. The better game is right there and they try to push this dumpster fire on everyone.
So the classic PSO2 without NGS is better? Also could you play PSO2 the classic version, before NGS update? I'm curious
@@kirin7725 You actually have to play through the introduction of NGS before you can even get access to PSO2 classic. But now you can just play NGS without even having to download PSO2 classic when most of us want the reverse.
I just tried this game out, and right from the start it was absurdly frustrating. Constant popups, way too many options in the menus, soulless anime characters, cringe dialogue, floaty movement, confusing menus for vendors, more popups for the cash shop hidden in those vendor menus, janky animations, weapon abilities that seem completely at odds with the classes they are attached to, I just can't with this shit. Gonna go play old PSO on Ephinea and wash this rancid flavor out my mouth.
It's sad how far the IP has fallen since PSO1...
We finally got PSO2 in the West, just for them to abandon it after a couple years in favor of this soulless gacha mobile game. I was playing so much back when Luster came out, and now I can't even be bothered to touch the game for nostalgic reasons. Sega should be ashamed of themselves.
Couple!? Wasn't even a year before they announced NGS and after that year it was out.
@@DoamBot Yeah... sadly really they only bothered to release base PSO2 after 10 years globally as a quick cashgrab trying to make us hang around until NGS dropped. Problem is they forgot to think about step 2 of the plan, NGS being empty and pointless while they gutted base content loop anyway. How to shoot yourself in the foot 101
The last straw I had with PSO2: NG was when I learned that Syberbolt got banned and his YT channel getting striked several times, because of PSO2:NG weirdo community. I used to spend hundreds of dollars on certain scratches just to have some money for stuff I wanted in the player shop. I stopped supporting the game entirely even before watching SyberBolt videos and when I finally did catch wind what of what happened to SyberBolt I just uninstalled the game and haven’t touched the game ever since. PSO2:NG is unfortunately just infested with a bunch RP weirdos that don’t even play the game and cannot take any form of criticism towards the game to the point it’s pointless even attempting to give criticism to such a fragile community and slow development team that half a decade later PSO2: NG has like 5% of the content PSO2: Base had in it’s 10 years.
I was keeping tabs on ngs because I loved the tamer class. Until it was released. It wasn't a pet class anymore. It was just another class where your "pets" just becomes attacks and goes away.
Open world games killed almost all gaming industry, the attempt of SEGA making this game open world was catastrophic and awful, i really loved PSO2 and it was the game that made me fell in love again with MMOs and NGS killed this feel
The whole thing has been bizarre and a slow train wreck since day 1. Only reason I played it was because I enjoyed the PSO1 atmosphere a lot. Then PSO2 stayed in JP for years and I always wanted to try it. Fast forward almost 10 years later when about everyone had given up on it. A 'quick' timeline/recap of events :
- Global release finally announced for 2020 way too long after the original game prime time. Bad marketing on the global side almost nobody knew it was coming. I myself discovered it with the steam secondary release seeing it randomly on the shop.
- Partnership with microsoft(why?) that makes the game come out around march 2020 exclusively on windows store on PC at first, which simply didn't work and even downloading the game failed for most people. -> Lost 10x the potential playerbase right there.
- August 2020 : Steam release, finally a way to download and play the game that actually f'ing works. Game starts gaining traction but we are already on episode 4 with 1-2-3 done and dusted. They proceed to speedrun the whole 8-10 years of the game content in the most accelerated fashion I have ever heard of in any other secondary release of any game ever.
- By around November 2020 we are in episode 6 and more or less caught up with the japan version. If you had a day job or anything similar meanwhile, you got rushed through everything to the point SEGA had to regularly distribute free gear update packages for people to not fall off completely off the content scale. ...Why ?
- Around that time new genesis (NGS) revamp/expansion announced Then we entered a total content drought until new genesis in May 2021. Obv a lot of people drop the game right there at least until NGS starts.
- NGS should be a case study in how NOT to dev a game in depth revamp. You could write a whole book about the debacle it was on the technical side and still is under the hood to this day. They swapped dev teams between was is now called the base game (PSO2) and the one doing the NGS 'revamp/expansion' Including a total lack of knowledge sharing between the two and the now NGS dev team refusing to touch the base code for more than a full year not fixing any bugs or broken features the whle time.
- Base being left to rot with no mission pass or any events or seasonal quests (could even have recycled past ones for no work invovled but nope) While NGS is released as a barren wasteland with no content or side lifeskills or anything at all to keep you busy once you reached (extremely quickly) lvl 20.
- Their game plan for the first 6 months of NGS for content was releasing 2 new classes that brought absolutely nothing new or important to the table and hope players would keep themselves busy playing those. Yes I am serious. Almost not a single quest, gear type, bugfix patch. Only one region with lvl 20 max classes for the first 6 months.
- NGS started very slowly picking up some steam with the release of the second region : retem 6 months after release in december 2021. But everything since has been just copy paste, completely pointless max lvl raises every few months that just make every mob tankier than before even with updated BiS gear. And equally pointless releases of weapons and armor that can all summed up to be 'do x% more dmg'. A Zelda game on gameboy had more meaningful gear updates than this game, I can't stress enough how appalling and lazy it is. fkin chatGPT would give you better gearing ideas than what they are doing.
- They also like to destroy the few working parts of the ingame economy often to make what little copy pasted content there is totally useless to even enter. freetoplay players taking the most of the hits with nothing to farm and sell to climb the ladder.
SEGA mismanagement of every aspects of the project from start to now (august 2024 as I write this) is legendary in my book. The best part being how they went out of their way to gut the base game to push people on the NGS side before it was ready (it still isn't) and ruined one of their biggest cashcows for absolutely no valid reason in the process (PSO2 japan was a big chunk of SEGA's revenue until NGS)
I got in on PSO 2 right when it hit over here, that year before New Genesis dropped was great. Had never really played an MMO or a Phantasy Star game before and I was hooked that entire summer, I'm still mad that they borked it, tanked the player base and essentially ran. All those moments lost, like tears in rain.
I feel the same but from Archeage.
Gaming in general seems to be suffering from a lack of vision, despite a lot of gripes people have NGS, it has great foundation with lots of potential but it isn't being used effectively, at most all we get is a new festival every month with the same LTQ's and Catch up rewards with the only end game content being Affix's which get made redundant after the next festival and it has become monotonous as times went on. This goes for a lot of games nowadays where there is a lack of passion for gaming and more of a focus on how to achieve the most profit with the least cost/effort, the only games I seen people have any interest in anymore are coming from studios that actually care more about gaming like From Software.
And the reason it continues to go on is because regardless of how non user friendly they make the game, they are still winning because they expend little to no effort improving, updating, and maintaining the game, while people continue to log in and buy stuff to dress up their character, companies are maximizing profits at the cost of consumer satisfaction and a lot of people don't care enough to speak with their wallet and boycott a game for a while until they have to do something about it, companies don't understand complaints, they only understand financial loss, if you want a game to improve let it die, if they really care about what they invested in then they will try and save it, continuing to play it, cope and pretend that everything is ok isn't going to help yourself, the game, or the other players in the long term, only help the company in the short term.
@@shaece798 It's wishful thinking to think that people would vote with their money, but as you know ignorance is bliss.
Ever since the announcement of PSO2NGS, I always said they should've made PSO3 instead, making it a "v2" of PSO2 was a really bad idea because spaghetti code and how to make characters compatible in both versions
Also, Open World was a really stupid idea too because you can't go wrong with lobby + instances, especially since they've done that for a long time, while Open World is hit or miss (and usually it's a miss)
Making the character compatible betwren two versions is a lot less of an issue than you think.
The main problem is that they simplified the gameplay that made PSO2 way too much to the point you stop focusing on it and just go autopilot until you fall asleep with how lackluster it is.
-Removed Just Attacks.
-Massive lack of Photon Arts and Techs
-Most enemies feel (are) the same and arent fun to fight.
-Combat has no real progression since you are mostly just keeping up with the current level cap and killing things in the same amount of time so long as you are not 5 levels below your enemy.
-Battle Power makes no sense
-Exploration zones are worthless.
-Combat Zones are just a meatgrinder in 4 different colors.
-All instanced areas are literally VR training areas with a blue or yellow grid theme.
And worst of all, the story is not only being dripfeed to us at an agonizingly slow pace, its also not interesting all because there is so little of it.
PSO2 (NGS) was made to retain licensing rights already attained under the PSO banner. This game was always a stopgap, not to defend their actions, but it's always been in the open. Anyhow NGS deserves to end at this point, but it'll be milked for years to come I suspect.
Thanks for saying only the truth. NGS community are too blind to see how NGS is a bad game.
Ngs is just a barbie dress doll game for the sexually deprived weirdos to use their sex mods who are defending the Game.
what made me leave entirely was the removal of Personal Shop tickets
THANK YOU for this 😂
And this is why, many of us still just only play Pso2, and not NGS lmao.
what happened? the game tried to be genshin impact, they saw how huge that game is and tried to do the same thing by making ngs "open world" at the expense of everything becoming simplified.
now every class is the same, every enemy is the same, every area is the same with different color etc.
True. Genshin and Breath of the Wild ruined this game.
@@victorhf9804Breath of the wild ruined Zelda in general.
I do see where you’re coming from but NGS can’t “try” and be Genshin since it was released before Genshin.
@@LuvyMaki wtf are you talking about? genshin came out in 2020 and ngs came out in 2021, maybe do a little bit of research first before talking
@@TerryBear167 lol mb I rechecked thats my fault since I was seeing the 2020 release date for base game instead of NGS release date. Fyi the hostility is like way unneeded and unnecessary, I’d understand it IF I was being rude and passive aggressive but I wasn’t lmfao
In hindsight the urgent quests in ngs arent as bad as i made them out to be and they have improved a lot since the games release, but i still think they dont compare to the urgent quests in base pso2
For sure it does fail to deliver on the unique experiences that boss levels were in the past for example Loser, PD, Mother, Phantom God, Masqurade, Shiva's photoner fleet and TPD. Not to mention the lack of episodic intros that were the source of hype every time you launch up the game. The current production value is still the same style and no substance. Improved, but not good enough given whats out there currently in other games.
gameplay wise, the dark falz bosses from aegis onwards are better than anything in base, with only tpd really giving them a run for their money
@spark9189 nah, those are whack. The AIS UQS are way better than all of them.
@@shatteredsentient5321 ais uqs had better presentation for sure, but the ais gameplay at it's best with ais vega in episode 6 had exactly 1 more attack than the dfa mobile turret (that being the melee). the dfa mobile turret is the worst part of dfa, and a janky melee wouldn't have made it any better.
@@spark9189 Massively disagree with this. Aegis, Solus, Dalion, none of them are better than Magatsu.
I honestly felt base pso2 suffered from the same shit but to a lesser degree. If anything I want something more similar to the original pso or PSU even.
Agreed. PSO2 was a good game with faults, NGS took those faults and triple downed on them.
@@hermityt1pretty much. Either way I feel both are cash grabs, though I personally like the gameplay of NGS a touch better than base but it's lack of good content and creative design have killed it. It was novel when it first launched despite the questionable level cap of 20, but as they added new stuff it mostly just felt reskinned.
I am like 3 hours in the game but I genuinenly have no idea what I'm doing so whenever I go back in I kind of just run around a bit then dip out
Also, every piece of building in the game, is this same ass "hi tech" looking default creative space building block, the whole world of NGS is a giant creative space, no unique materials to them.
Forest, Snow, Desert, Volcano, You see this same piece of shit "hi-tech" floor with lights everywhere, I hated that so much even though I'm desensitize to it at this point because I really can't give my attention to it, there's no thing interesting and it's just busy. If I find 1 concrete wall sitting in the middle of nowhere that would be more interesting... I can go on all day but Imma just leave it at that for the aesthetic of the world. Hundred percent the base is just unique everywhere you go.
Sega thinks just because we loves the base PSO2, they can just slaps NGS at the end and release whatever this was, and that people will automatically likes it. They're blind to see what makes the base thick in the first place. It's just sad...
Also the combat I miss the old connect where you need to time the attack with the red circle to get additional damage... now you just hold down a fking buttong... I still click attack with the rhythm as I would in base... even though there's no connect there, otherwise it's gonna turn me into mindless... there's more than that but I don't have all day for an essay, you know, we all know.
I saw the volcano region had trees with pixel Nintendo DS textures. I just couldn't. The world in this game has no style. Imagine having an mmorpg like Xenoblade X. That game has so much style for the hardware it was made on.
@@shatteredsentient5321 Ikr
I remember playing through the main story quests in base PSO2 and enjoying it...and then genesis dropped and killed all interest
Great timing on this, I just very hesistantly re-downloaded NGS since it first launched cuz i thought it sucked back then, so i was optimistic (being a big PSO fan) and had faith that Sega might have fixed it. "Maybe with a new character I'll get back into it and..." Anyway, point being, it's clearly still dogshit so thanks for saving me my time and further sadness. thumbs up.
I also DEPISE NGS WITH THE INTENSITY OF A THOUSAND SUNS YOU SIR HAVE EARNED YOURSELF A SUBSCRIBER.
PSO needs a reboot to be more like the original. Slow paced combat with high consequences, more in line with souls like, remnant 2 or returnal except phantasy star. This new game is shallow and they seem to cater do people that don't even game just like dressing up
I don't think slow or face paced matters tbh. It's class difference and gameplay that is a problem.
Like everyone can just go around learning boss move then solo all content. It looks cool at first and may give you respect but after a while it's just that.
Noone need buff or debuff class, noone need tanks or healer, just nuke everything out with your godly skill and whale enough.
Nothing will change no matter how many boss they create it will stuck on that line.
Yes! People say to me how can I prefer PSO and PSU's combat over NGS, well it's very simple, I prefer slower combat where you need to think when attacking. In NGS, I feel like some over powered super hero, I much preferred being space police.
Wtf a slow game no. They just need content. Every game shouldn't be a souls like.
@@blakwater777 Nobody said it should be souls like.
@hermityt1663 the lead comment literally says more in line with souls like, etc.
Lazy developers. Plain and simple. It still has the best movement and moment to moment gameplay of any action MMO in a better than a lot of other action games.
But it also follows this trend in RPGs where you don't actually get any other weapons you just get a stat stick. Absolutely none of the weapons in the game come with a ability, your character has four moves with some variance and that's it. At this point they will never be any more moves
Yes now you have the Mario system which is interesting and pretty awesome overall, but it's still doesn't make up for the fact that the developers simply don't want to make anymore moves .
Finish the star was born in bread on special weapons and weapons and dropped from enemies and bosses. You still have that here but if all the weapons are generic what's the point.
They decided to go open world and then put nothing in it. It's one of the greatest sins of any RPG game you can make. What's over there nothing what's over there nothing what's over there nothing
And they've already said they don't want to expand the playing spaces. Lucky rotating the same tired areas yada yada yada.
They should really end this game. Even with all of my characters that I still put a lot of time into, they're just too lazy for this to keep going on.
NGS fans are incredibly sensitive to ANY criticism of the game. We even see it in the comments on this video. Most players are just statues in the lobby, the most relevant content is only played on weekly reset days, the player base is shrinking to pathetic levels, yet they still think the game is totally fine.
Even when the roadmap tells them how bad things will be up until the 2nd quarter of next year, they are still in denial.
the roadmap had always been the smoking gun... no raids, random events or RPG content, just mobs and bosses. The whiteknights are all just addicted. I play three days a week briefly for weeklies, but that's all I do anymore as someone who has been playing since classic's launch.
Yeah the roadmap is pretty bad and of course you got the NGS creators saying "this is a good roadmap" when clearly it's not
I had this thing with NGS where I would actively fall asleep during combat because it's not as cool, exciting or varied as Base PSO. It asks nothing off you and gives you the bare minimum which is EXP because drop rates are absolutely basura so is build variety
Same here.
I often fall asleep during the grind at Dext Base.
In contrast, never once I even feel sleepy during Cradle
Which is a darn shame because i loved the doll designs and the creativity potential it could had... but nope just rehashes, and the starless are just dolls but purple with squares...
I can summarize it in one sentence: NGS seems to have manually removed every single thing that made PSO as an entire series unique.
More into depth: the runic sci-fi space adventure aspect is gone, all the perfect attacks and unique mechanics are gone, all the artstyle choices for outfits are gone (yes base PSO2 still had fanservicey cosmetics, but most of them still "fit the setting" so to speak), the music is missing a majority of the ambient feeling that made PSO special, the dungeon crawler aspect is gone, the difficulty is nonexistent for the most part, everything has been simplified to the point of seeming like it was designed for five year olds, the game is more greedy than ever, every remaining semblance of the original PSO artstyle is gone, and many more issues that I can't think of off the top of my head.
I actually really do wish one day NGS would shut down and they will go back to focusing on base PSO2.
I think they should go straight to PSO3 taking some inspiration from actual good games, like Granblue Fantasy Relink.
@@victorhf9804 I actually don't really think PSO3 could take much from Relink that it wasn't already doing with Base PSO2.
@@victorhf9804 I have given up on a PSO3 ever coming or being any better since every layer of SEGA management seems more incompetent than the last one. They would have to sell the entire franchise to someone who knwos how to actually make a game but that won't happen. Might aswell wait for something in a similar universe/setup as PSo1 to come along from somebody else.
You'd think that devs would have learned from past open world games that giving you the ability to fly through it cheapens the entire game map.
I logged in for the first time in years and was disappointed, definitely going to be sticking to classic dreamcast PSO
I just played on private server, me and my friend we are enjoying the game
What hurts the most to me honestly is the story, ive been a fan of phantasy star games since phantasy star on sega gen, ill die on any hill saying that phantasy star stories were better then final fantasy games and Base PSO2 definitely was a cringy anime fest but it still felt like well put together story and every episode had you wondering what was gonna happen next, especially since each episode would up the production value with cutscenes and take you either around the galaxy, around the earth or to a new dimension to meet alternate versions of our OG phantasy star 1 and 2 heroes/villians, NGS feels like im just sorta going through the motions with the story and when it feels like theres a small hunt of interesting story were told that there wont be a story update for another couple of months or a year(like now)
I'm not going to lie, I hated the direction the Story took in PSO2 compared to the Dreamcast/Gamecube classic but the gameplay was and still is pretty good.
smoking some good stuff thinking any phantasy star game is better than ff7 og
Here a LATAM player....
We are really sad how the things go so slowly with the gane, no content, no more history, drops are mega low(thanks japanese player base you always screw up all), every 2 weeks new AC... fashion items are no that huge special, a card game that nobody ask with a the smallest player base.
I had a lot a friends leavin the game for those reasons...
Literally no one wanted NG, there was no reason for them to do that after taking like a decade to get PSO2 to the west
ah bro the whiteknighting and copium is crazy. Been playing since classic's launch. There're too many things to say, but when it comes down to it phashion is amazing fun, but the gameplay CYCLE is terrible. It's boring. I can hardly play anymore without nodding off unless I'm lobby grinding. Phasion and lobby grind are the only reason to play. CS could add more if they added PVE and resource farming, auxiliaries and ACS minigames such as golf or racing. This game is just a cashgrab with incredible phasion.
Base PSO2 Ep 3 was its peak and it started going downhill with episode 4 background and its worst with episode 5 and Hero class
I just think the entire direction they went with the new genesis was awful. It really just like they copied off of genshin impacts homework and slapped phantasy stars name on it .
Everything is absolutely correct in this video. To put this video on one simple comment would be, is that base PSO2 had lots of depth to it, from the combat, to the lore, to the level design, while NGS in comparison feels like it completely lacks any depth that the old PSO2 had.
It's sad that nowadays I login to NGS and all I do is just afk in the lobby and stare at my own cool character that I've created, while the game does not offer any interesting gameplay whatsoever. And I think my main gripe has always been with how extremely mainstreamed or simplified the class design is in NGS, they all feel the same and play the same.
If you’re as old as me you’d remember the classic PSO back when it was online on the GameCube. Anybody remember the sealed J sword? Now that was a reward!!! This game used to be so creative. Now they forcing the creativity on the players
Good piece. Pretty much encapsulates my issues with NGS and why I don't play anymore. PSO2 and NGS are wildly different games, and NGS is not a winner in that comparison. The open world is largely empty and pointless, so it doesn't add anything over instanced level of the original. Scratch is still there and is just as dominant, only now there's no meaningful "game" part. 8 didn't get into the PSO2 to scratch and chat in the hub. I got into it for cool and fresh (compared to western MMO) gameplay, emergency quests and story. NGS lacks pretty much all of that and I don't buy into "just give a decade to get to where PSO2 was".
I miss PSO2 more than any other game I've ever played. I was on the JP servers for so long. NGS is an abomination!
one of my biggest gripes with the game got to be how they handled classes, gear, and skill trees...
skills trees are greatly cut down from the previous game and many skills that you would of used like hunter physique and or iron will are either locked to the main class or nerfed because your subbing that class... in tandem with the weapons not having that great of special abilities on them most of the time it starts feeling like the game punishes you from experimenting with builds/playstyles, especially if you take into account the limited number of PAs we've had or currently have...
speaking of PAs i got criticism of those as well. alot of PAs are kind hit or miss. I remember when this game released i was really looking forward to playing JB bouncer and knuckles fighter in NGS, as those were the classes i played the most... I was quickly disappointment when i tried out bouncer i quickly noticed that it had a PA that was incredibly weak like so weak it couldn't defeat the weakest enemy in the game... with us having like 3 PAs on a class and this PA being so useless that meant a portion of this class was honestly just useless.. but what i hate most was what they did with jetsweep kick. if you played Base pso2 at all and even tried out JB bouncer you'd know it was and quick to pop a jetsweep kick int a tight bunch of enemies or a bosses' weakspot for BIG DAMAGE... now? Jetsweep kick isn't it's own standalone PA anymore its tied into the basic melee attack and when you use it, it has an incredibly long of i think about 10 seconds before you come to crescendo that is the jetsweep kick... all the while when your building up to the jetsweep kick you character is bouncing back and forth landing a flurry of relatively weak strikes as the camera jolts back and forth jarringly as if to inflict motions sickness on you... i gotta ask, who tf okay'd that in the studio at Sega? because of this you literally don't use jetsweep kick 95% of the time unless it's on bosses and or raid bosses when they're stunned... you can't use it on normal enemies because they wont be stunned by the strikes when building up allowing for enemies to hit you once and interrupt it... if you know anything about bouncer you'd know that jetsweep kick was an integral part of the class and was a considerable portion of JB Bouncer's DPS, which is why it need to be a quick attack that you could pop off quickly because this allowed the ability to be versatile... simple and effective is sometimes better than over-designed and flawed. JSK should of stayed the same honestly for the sake of usability.
then as for knuckle fighter's PA's all of their animations are just ridiculously long and there a reason for this, reason for this is they want you to use skip arts... which i hate with every fiber of my being... ther's a few reasons why i hate it, it's shoehorned into the class skill trees and take up like half of said skill trees which could of been dedicated to actual useful skills to compensate for skills that became class locked or nerfed because your subbing that class... 2nd because of skip arts for some classes to just stand there and use your skills is apparently how you maximize dps for some classes, especially knuckles fighter because it's PA animations are so ridiculously long with long wind up and cool downs it's pretty much required to play knuckles fighter, which then subsequently dumbs the class down to standing still and pressing two buttons... i wish i was joking. 3rd as to why i hate is because it's execution is garbage. to use a skip art you have to stop doing any sort of directional input and then use your desired PA and causes you to perform only the last half of the PA... sounds simple? probably on paper but i've tried to build up muscle memory and forget how i played base pso2 in order to try and adopt this and i just can't it's clunky and flawed its not even funny... If they really want to go this route with the classes they should of just made all the class play similar to bouncer or the scion classes where few PAs could behave in multiple different ways improving functionality and versatility. and all you'd have to do is hit the weapon action button while executing a PA to activate it and transition to the next part of the PA at will WITHOUT the need for having no directional input...
in other words, the feel of playing the classes just aren't the same. they change the classes for the sake of 'trying something new' without actually even understanding why things on the classes just worked well on the base pso2 classes... every class gets a few PAs and some are a hit or miss but when they miss it greatly effects the class because in this game that's all you have to work with whereas in BASE pso2 if there was a PA that you didn't like or was just objectively bad, say for gunner or Warrior you could just switch it out with something that you did like because most class had like around a dozen PAs. these are the reasons why if and when i do play this game, I play double sabers fighter because it give me that similar feeling of maintaining arieal combat and smoothly i-framing and parrying everything... this is what i feel like it comes down to for a decent part is how does it feel to play the class? this is why i much prefer NGS's hunter over Base PSO2's hunter because Base PSO2's hunter felt clunky and slow compared to just about every other class, and it seems like NGS much of that was addressed and NGS's hunter feels alot more smooth hand responsive to play.
lastly my final gripe is mags... they're useless, they don't buff you anymore, they don't fight, they can't even res you anymore. they just sit there and float around photo-bombing you when taking screen shots of your character in their dull, uninspired open world. this is why i have mine stealthed because i cannot bear to witness what they did to my boi any longer.
there's other things that are clearly wrong about this game that i could probably bring up but, the examples i've listed above aside from the recycled enemies and repetitive gameplay, are pretty much the main things that rub me the wrong way as i feel like thes have had the most impact on me... i know alot of people would crticise the monetization of this game which is fair, many things that were enjoyed by f2p accounts have been barred behind pay walls and they've increased the amount of avenues for paying things such as paying to reach end-game in addition to Sega's unwavering focus on pushing out AC scratches rather than meaningful content.. but i've just begun to not care about any of that, I haven't changed my character's look at all as i believe what i have set for them suits them the most.
NG killed base PSO2. Honestly depressing, because PSO2 is easily my favorite MMO.
years later im still pissed about it aswell :/
NGS is a glorified dress up doll simulator. It barely has any content that even warrants it being considered as an MMORPG.
Most of the "quests" are just open world events/monsters and dungeons that look like the developers just stopped giving a shit about making them into actual dungeons.
All the devs of this game give a shit about is creating dumb ass cosmetics.
I was so hyped for NGS when it released. For context I am a Legacy FF14 player, so I have experience braving through shit games with the hope to get the Reborn part later.
With all the NGS marketing I really thought they were doing the Realm Reborn approach. What we got was bland and uninspiring. I rather go back to base PSO2 and keep messing around with my Phantom.
My main two gripes are this: I finished the content the first weekend playing casually. The main story at release felt like the first 20 levels in ARR leading up to the fight against Ifrit. I literally said out loud 'Wait, that's it?' when I realized i had to wait like another year for any other content.
My second gripe is that gearing up is so convoluted and feels so insubstantial. You have to do mind gymnastics and pull out spreadsheets to gain a marginally advantage. I grinded like a week for a new weapon and did basically the same amount of damage as the weapon I was using to level up. I quit at that point.
It's like VR chat or second life trash.
It's filled with a bunch of crying social advocates.
I am the creator of the private server for pso so I should know.
I agree the original PSO2 was fun, New Genesis is big but boring, that's the problem, a game that is boring.
To me the game went open world when it dint need to. The world felt too empty (like most open worlds), when it was stage instances they where crowded with enemies and the runs where short and sweet. The game is now a bloated character designer, which hurts, PS1 and Base PS02 were great and I have so many fond memories playing it with friends.
Just checking in to see how the latest installment of what should be my favorite game is doing... Since I quit playing a while ago due to everything highlighted in this video and then some, I wasn't sure. But it sounds like it's about where I expected it would be and I'll keep throwing money at something else.
Sybberbolt was always right many had to shut him up but this game dying is his eventual vindication
Yeah, still depressed that he had no choice but to leave TH-cam. We need more people like him in the community, instead we got people like Keroppi who's basically getting daily facials from Sega's staff
@@chelsthegameruiner8669 well keroppi is harmless, weird flex on him but he's cool at the moment, my real problem are the douches at the EN discord who practically allowed this to happen and came out unscathed
God I hope for their fall
its saddening to see what has become of pso2. i was soo damn hyped about it, now i feel utterly disappointed and sad looking back
they got lazy and greedy basically, everything is the same copy paste content, and the moment they get rid of shop pass is when i know the game is dead on the water.
1. f2p players cant keep up because they cant make enough gold so they leave
2. whales saw that ppl are leaving and dont want to spend money on a declining game so they also leave
3. devs dont make enough money so they make more scratch to compensate
4. back to point 1
the game pretty much went into a death spiral because of bleeding player numbers (why do you think they decided to merge all server for events? because they know theres not enough ppl playing), slowly but surely the game is going to go EOS unless they do a final fantasy 14 move and revamp the whole game which is very unlikely.
Another problem i found was community. For some point the community became to much bare compared base pso2. Base had alot nice and ffxiv lvl community. Sense NGS pass it been nothing but toxic, Elite and drama makers.
The only endgame content is grinding zones making cash to get fashions
To do that you need to get the shop pass. Only 1 to 2 3 days only pass every pass.
A f2p can literally not enjoy the endgame. Their combat zones grinds leads nowhere as they cant sell things
Uq are useless as they give you close to BIs weapon with events.
This game is only a koomer dressing game
I just started playing the game with my brothers and I think it's alright but should I continue playing ngs and later play classic since it gives u a option to or what cause not sure
Agreed on this one. I used to grind for weapons not necessarily because it's the strongest one but because it looks cool and I want it.
Although some weapons are turned into large grinds and exchange with tokens rather then drops in the later episodes.
Everything felt soulless and the cool designs and musics we used to get are just not in NGS.
Massive Phantasy Star fan here, I literally play every game with Phantasy Star in it, I had to drop NGS after 2years (been playing other PS games since march) because we're not going ANYWHERE. I hate that it's a phantasy star game with no space fights/ other planets.
You can tell they've given up on what makes the game interesting, they announced no story until April 2025 on the roadmap. I've been keeping up with every livestream and its just skipping through 40 minutes of gacha and SOMETIMES I find decent updates to game systems, they did ok with Nameless City recently but it's still far from enjoyable. At this point if they kill it on Global cause playerbase is gone I will , for the first time since I've known the series, actually SUPPORT it so we can actually get competent people to step up and provide decent live service through private servers.
They took a fun game with an enjoyable story and decided what it really needed was the depth of a dinner plate instead
People just doesn't believe this game is still on a bad state right now, 3 years on service still not comparable to 3 years of base pso2, boring ass game loop especially end game content, abysmal drop rate (mind you, I've only got 3 Windguards drop till today since its release), classes are all samey, recycle contents over and over and over, catch up events every 2 months and development cycle if slow af.
The only content they release consistently every week is their phasion.
If you look at the steam charts (don't look at the numbers) the population never/barely grows even every major updates Sega release.
I was really hyped for NGS. Multi-weapons, better augmenting (curse you, Dudu), streamlined UI, economy reset with N-Meseta. I was really hopeful that they learned from the mistakes of base PSO2. Things started to become sus when the main selling point of NGS was that "now you have hand gestures".
I think the mandatory graphics update with the NGS release was responsible for the loss of a huge chunk of players, who used to be able to play base PSO2 on a potato, but not anymore.
NGS is still pretty bland after all these years and I think even they realized how much the open world idea failed, when they started gravitating towards instanced areas as of late, such as Leciel and Nameless City. Still not enough to make the game worth playing.
For me it was simple. Not being able to play it offline as single player, custom servers or lan. I loved the dreamcast and gamecube games because of that. I refuse to put time or money in a game which can disappear at any moment because a studio close or because it makes not enough money for greedy investors
It’s not a sad state it’s supposed to be to be dead the games shi***
Give me back Phantom or I ain't going back.😤
Syberbolt was right
Good thing i can draw to get my characters out of there when ngs gets shut down.
But nowadays i just go on there and do the grind for 10 minutes and that's it. The mars was a neat addition, but it looks more like an excuse to speed up the grind against bosses.
Eh i just uninstalled today, i aint really feeling the vibes of the community either
Well... i never downloaded it on pc or xbox, because of my work, i can play only on a ps4/5 and started with NGS; the game is quite immediate and it's enjoyable, i really didn't play the PSO2 base, i tried it but after 10 hours menus and mechanincs were too complex for me and my available time so full of menus and really i hadn't the necessary patience so i gave up and returned to the more simple and really FAR LESS chaotic, NGS. Only if you played form the start you can enjoy PSO2 base, NGS is fasr more accessible. Not all is negative about this game i think.
Ngs felt like a unity assist built by college students
this is why i still play phantasy star universe and its sequel. even if i beat it i replay on different classes/races
Still remember that we all stuck at lvl 20 for entire year lol
My Guardian. ./* It's never going to change. Not until the demented item dev is fired, or a trained gibbon persuades them that 150 aegis souls for a statistic IS f***ing stupid.
Real. There is no soul in NGS. If we were to compare mining rig defense from base pso2 and NGS, base pso2 was annoying but still fun because it had it's unique-ness to it; most urgent quests had a game mode to them, and those game modes were fun because it offered a different experience from a regular ass boss fight(NGS).
I think duel quests were fine in a way-but that's only for the solo players. Those idiots(sega) forgot that, though it might be frustrating, but at the same time, failing with a group for urgent quests is fun: especially when the urgent quest is rewarding.
It's been a couple of years and everyone has been waiting for new PA's. It's crucial that Sega worked on those because it would be an opener for people who have different playstyles.
I feel like the augmenting system in base pso2 was fun. It was very complex but very fun. It had it's own unique-ness compared to NGS where all you need is capsules and maybe a 20% boost.
Armors and weapons stat stick blah blah blah. Some of the weapons and armors had their own unique abilities you could choose from. We don't have that in NGS because they are "ex augments" which should've never been added to the pool of augments.
I hate how some people can defend the trash they've been given when they could be given gold or diamond. It's hard for me to get my friends to play this game because the state it's in- is absolute trash. They would quit in a day or 2. I want them to have fun, and I want new players to have a good experience, not this trash.
Anyways that's how I feel about the current state of NGS.
Fuck me, now just made me mad too, I remember getting into the global launch of pso2 and I was stoked, easily put 1k hours on it and when ngs dropped I was hoping for a pso2 experience but with new gen graphics and shit, nope, they fucking diluted the juice into fucking water making it bland asf, I seriously don't get how can a company have such a successful game format and fuck it up this bad. Now I was hoping that after 4 FUCKING YEARS something would change, to my NOT surprise nothing has changed, my boy "look how they massacred my boy"
I have done nothing but buy pso2 camos for my weapons and pso2 outfits. Nothing from NGS.
😢 I miss the details 😢 they took all my good weapons.
Im just waiting for them to close the doors to both games now. The 5 people that buy every single scratch and get every single item as collectors will be very sad when they arent enough to keep the servers running themselves.
One of the biggest problems with NGS is that even it's own game director has admitted he doesn't play his own game.
Yet, FF14's Yoshi-P does. So he has a pulse on the community and has a better idea of what the game needs. NGS's game director doesn't. And that's baffling because he's been involved with nearly every PS game ranging from the PSP titles up to NGS, yet this is his "ideal vision" for the game???
Hello there. I have a question. Thank to Brightstar. I finish watching Base PSO2.
But as I watch some of his other video of other PS series. I heard something interesting
So what the whole story with EP5? in PSO2. I understand the hate for EP4 (some of it at least) but i heard there hate for 5 and blame the Dev to the point where the Dev have not show his face. (Note know it was 6 or 8 years ago)
@@nuruddinshah684 The guy who made ep5 in is charge of ngs. Most ppl hate him bc all you did in ep 5 was buster quests and he made the hero class, which was very overtuned to the point you shouldnt play any class at the time.
@@Opalthira Hmm so that why Edge boi exist.
when you only give 10% content but 90% fashion cash grab.. what they expect?
For me it's the endgame that's really important and there's just nothing going on there. The game itself has a lot of potential but you just need to add more interesting things that let people do more than just collect outfits. I love ouffits in every game I see that my character looks good but that shouldn't necessarily be the only thing in the endgame...😅And the world just needs to have more visual variety. When I walk around in this open world, everything just looks the same and totally lifeless...I love the graphics and I love the gameplay but the endgame and this lifeless feeling world is very annoying in the long run...hope there will be more at some point...but most of the time not much changes in games either you close the game or the Game makers are starting with a new variant, so the hope is not very high.😅
i genuinely don't understand how NGS still lives. there's hardly 1000 players on the daily basis. just scrap this piece of garbage empty shell of a game and remaster PSOBB or base PSO2 or something. or release PSO3 and have the original PSO team work on it.
base ps02 would have me in action fantasy Zen mode back in the day. i hope some other company comes to fill the void here for it and dfo.
careful, by criticizing the game your channel might get nuked by some bootlicking weirdo
I wouldn't be surprised and I played ngs
I don’t know why I quit playing PSO2 I used to love playing it when it released I guess I got distracted by other games or something idk I can’t remember so I recently decided to try to get back into it only to find all my characters were deleted some I spent money on and that the game is essentially not even the same game anymore it looked completely different it was a sad day I uninstalled it RIP
base pso2 felt like it had soul as well, the bgm, the missions, me and my friends felt badass grouping for the urgent quests. then ng is just so bare bones, they fr shouldve just kept updating the base game or something instead of bricking it.
Old stuff good, new stuff bad
I really got into pso2 a couple years ago then this shit dropped. Hope they could just remove the entirety of ngs
meanwhile i'm still enjoying playing phantasy star portable 2 infinity in ppsspp with my fellow ai custom characters squad.
and if i want more pretty adventurous exploration gameplay, i can just solo play tower of fantasy and genshin impact without being pressured to chase seasonal meta and leaderboards.
Tower of fantasy is a terrible game, worse than NGS.
