- In this tutorial Stuart Hinds provides tips and techniques for treating the tibialis anterior muscle. This is the muscle that would be associated with shin splints and the inflammation of the connective tissue as it is pulled off of the tibia.
The tibialis anterior muscle is one of several muscles which move the foot and ankle. It is part of the anterior compartment of the lower leg and it forms half of the anatomical stirrup. The other half is fibularis (peroneus) longus, a which is also addressed in this tutorial.

I personally love the forearm technique up and down the tibialis anterior. It feels wonderful afterwards as it’s such a trigger point release!

We're glad you found the video helpful! If you're experiencing pain and swelling in both tibialis anterior muscles, proceed with caution when massaging. It's essential to listen to your body and avoid exacerbating any discomfort. Consulting with a healthcare professional for personalized guidance and considering activity modifications could also help. Take care! 🙏
