Can you please review The Crow, Crow City of Angles (that poor movie suffered the same fate as Cool World) , Power Rangers 2017, and Mortal Kombat 2021?
They put that dance scene in there because the girl who was playing M3gan is a really awesome professional dancer. And they let her design a lot of the robot's uncanny behaviors and movements. She was so good that she actually did all her own stunts. The scenes where she was running on all fours and when she rose from the ground all creepy without using her arms were all moves that she came up with that the director thought just looked cool and creepy. Those weren't special effects or CGI. She really did those things herself. Even the odd way that she moved when doing normal things was all her just using her dance knowledge to do movements in an odd, and unsettling, way. She put a lot of her dancing talent into making that character creepy, and the director encouraged her to do so.
In terms of how it makes sense within the story, I thought it was to distract the guy while moving herself into position to grab the nearest weapon, without provoking him into running away beforehand. That's how I read the scene at least. Makes it even cooler knowing how much of the actors dance talent went into the character tho.
That reminds me of the director of the first Silent Hill movie casting dancers to play the monsters. Say what you will about the writing, but the monsters were fricking _amazing_ in that movie.
I personally took the dance scene as M3gan performing outlandishly as a "fuck you" for the guy because everytime he was in a room with her or spoke about her he was demanding she perform a certain way. Kind of a "whats wrong, isnt this what you wanted?" situation.
Fun fact: Katie’s actress, Violet, actually comes from a family with another good horror film kid actor. Her sister, Madeline, was Gwen in the black phone.
"It is an unsettling mix of fear and laughter I can't turn away from." "And that's why your fan base watches you, so don't ruin the fun." You know us all too well. 😂
LOL Chucky never scared me though. He never scared my older brother either. We cracked up at how hilarious it was. Chucky’s still one of my favorite villains and Child’s Play movies are some of my favorites. Especially the first three. Don’t get me wrong.
Honestly, then only thing I've seen that made chucky scared was being trapped with his own corpse and when that guy rose up after being "dead" for a few hours. I think he's afraid of death
Honestly the only thing that scared me about Chucky was his face. Maybe it was his intense blue eyes and red hair but man it gave me the heebee jeebees. I never saw the movies up until that point but my mom had a cd on the cd shelf that had a picture of Chucky on the spine and I would always be scared to walk past it. Now that I'm older and have seen the movies, they are honestly more funny than scary.
Another Fun Fact: Allison Williams revealed there's a certain unrated moment that makes her sick to her stomach. Williams said, "The unrated version is a lot of fun, if you have the stomach for it." When asked if there was a specific scene that makes her squirm, she replied, "Oh, my God. It should be when a child perishes, but at one point, someone's face loses a fight with a pressure washer and it starts to peel off. Even though I know how it works behind the scenes and I watched all the tests they did with the special effects makeup, I still get sick to my stomach when I see it. It just grosses me out. I don't do well with gore in general, so that moment is particularly gnarly to me."
just wanna say malcolm was on point in this episode, i laughed at every line delivery "she said she was going to eat my foot, ripped my foot, THEN ATE MY FOOT!!"
But CGI Tamera says his line delivery was off. Surely a robot knows more about good acting than an actual human being! In all seriousness, I laughed more at Doug's chat with his "kid" in the car. And I normally skip that stuff to focus on the review itself. Maybe I've gotten so used to seeing Doug as Nostalgia Critic that when he delivers humour as himself, it's more funny. Honestly, I'd say that Doug is criminally underrated as an actor because Nostalgia Critic has become such a real character that seeing him just be himself is a bit like hearing David Tennant speak in his natural Scottish accent. A Neat Fact: At the time of its release, this was one of the first films within the previous 45 years to be released theatrically on the first Friday in January and obtain a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This is very rare, as most films released in this particular timeframe are usually panned by critics.
Fun Fact: Adrien Morot and Kathy Tse of Morot FX Studio created an animatronic puppet version of M3GAN that was used for dialogue and close-ups. There was also a second animatronic used for certain scenes, as well as a posable stunt version of M3GAN that wasn't puppeteered. The animatronic M3GAN was puppeteered via a variety of techniques, which included radio-controlled facial expressions performed by Adrien and Kathy in tandem, automated lip-sync for the dialogue (temp tracks were provided during filming by New Zealand actress Kimberley Crossman) and a puppeteer physically moving M3GAN's head and body.
I think the reason this movie worked is the same reason why Happy Death Day worked, because they’re both movies in which they nailed the tone of being self aware but not *TOO* self aware
A Interesting Fact: Amie Donald performed any of M3GAN's scenes that called for physical movement the puppet could not do. She also performed all of her own stunt work. Donald received movement coaching from Jed Brophy and Luke Hawker in portraying M3GAN's agility. On set, Donald wore a static silicone M3GAN mask created by Morot FX, and this was later replaced by a CGI version of M3GAN's face to match that of the animatronic.
7:19 I actually thought the aunt was a GREAT character, it's way more subtle than the usual cliche of the dad who works all day and misses the daughter's play or the son's baseball game or whatever, this is a caretaker who just has takeout pizza for dinner but recommends the child to eat the vegetable toppings on it!
First of all, Tamara dis a really good job as M3gan. Secondly, this was one of the best horror comedies I've seen in recent years. M3GAN is just the right amount of cute and realistic, and uncannily creepy. Both the the girl in the costume, Amie Donald, and the wonan who voiced her, Jenna Davis, did an amazing job bringing M3GAN to life. I love her singing, her smart remarks, the hilarious dance, and the way she ripped that bully's ear off was actually pretty disturbing. I'm still a little surprised this only got a PG-13 rating.
@Jordan Vance Honestly. When I saw it, I was right next to a couple teenagers who wouldn't shut up during the movie, and that could have been prevented with an R rating
@@nehemiahpouncey3607 wow what a dog shit idea, literally sequel bait for a garbage movie that will never get a sequel. Also that's straight up trash low tier writing.
@@lShadowdark I mean it wasn't bad per say but uh... Yeah it critically ain't the best film in the world. I think even Godzilla king of the monsters was better and it was getting a shit ton of flack from it's own fandom and other critics. Long story short this is why people have been saying the monsterverse was overrated for the past four years now.
What Could Have Been: One of the lead writers of the film has stated how it was originally set to be R rated - much bloodier with a higher body count - but it was trimmed down and reshot to a PG-13 when it was decided it would be more effective. The decision would be supported with M3GAN gaining a following with the younger TikTok crowd. The two death scenes many suspect were cut/reshot involve the death of the child psychologist (who suddenly dissapears from the film never to be seen again), and Gemma's two coworkers that show up alive at the end of the film despite having been left to die in a burning lab.
Yeah I heard this too! That was was meant to be more hard R make you wonder what if they went down that route but due to the sheer popularity it understandable
I'm surprised you didn't mention the inconsistency of M3gan's weight. The bully easily lifted M3gan, yet in the scene at 18:35, she outweighed the grown man by enough to easily hang him using the pulley system. Also, why did M3gan kill the CEO who was trying to bring her to market and produce more of her?
There's something just really terrifyingly to me that a doll which has no human emotions reactions or feelings could be turned into a evil scary toy that could kill you
I love the fake predation thing she did. She wasn’t carried off, she let the kid take her to a place she could attack. It’s an interesting and badass or scary trope depending on how it’s used.
I was one of those who enjoyed it unironically as a pretty good analysis of the potential pitfalls of AI technology, and some of the means by which we can *avoid* those pitfalls. In particular, there are two scenes in which M3GAN tries to get better guidance from Gemma (e.g. "Will I die?" and trying to clarify what Gemma wants from her re: Cady) - and both times, she gets brushed off, resulting in her having to try muddling through complex situations on her own, and leaving Gemma horrified by the result. Something as simple as bringing an ethicist on-board during the construction/programming phase could have helped immensely. As for the sequel, I *really* hope it'll take something of a Terminator 2 route, where the original M3GAN('s uploaded brain) helps Gemma and/or Cady combat the inevitable army of knock-off M3GANs that the competitor will be churning out, potentially with the rationale of "Okay, no *way* am I going to stand by as this shoddy line of robots claiming to be like me run amok!"
I'm just really glad this film did well because so many Horror films just do don't great nowadays so to see that this film did really well at the box office this year brings a smile to my face a bit
This movie basically follows the plot of a lot of late 70's and 80's horror movies. It doesn't try to subvert expectations, and audiences got exactly what they came to see. After an era of that not being the case, M3gan is actually one of the best representations of nostalgia we've gotten in a long time.
It was hilarious and absurd. Where did she even learn that dance. It’s not even a checkovs gun thing. It just came out of nowhere. So funny. Like she’s been trained on Reddit and TikTok.
I like that they added some thought to this. Like the fact that Cady uses Bruce to beat M3gan, and Bruce is also how Cady and Gemma were able to bond for the first time. It pairs nicely with the commentary that a child needs human connection, using their bond to save the day.
@@ChannelAwesome hey! Sup guys. Just wanted to say you were literally my childhood lol. *Yeah, was waaay too young to see you then,* but eh, my mom introduced me to you and I've been watching you since. Keep the videos coming, they are great.
My favorite part is when Me3an busted out singing titanium out of nowhere 😂 What a silly campy movie, a real treat to see in theaters where everyone was laughing like crazy!
It wasn't really out of nowhere; it was Megan becoming aware of what she is, and what she can do, along with comforting Katie. Also, the singing was BEAUTIFUL. Honestly never realized what a great song it is until hearing it as an acoustic cover without the stupid ass techno beat.
Why do retards like you feel the need to lie for absolutely no reason? Nobody was laughing. Nobody thinks this derpy garbage is funny or charming in any way
If people stopped telling Ai it should take over humanity, then it wouldn't have any starting point to think that itself. How often have you seen that sort of stupid news article, "We asked AI what it thinks of people, and it's answer scared us" kind of crap? The only reason AI would be unsafe would be if it acts like us, and the only reason it would act like us is because we taught it to do that.
Remember everyone, just because you're related doesn't mean you're capable of taking care of a child. That doesn't mean you can't love them, it just means you love them and are wise enough to realize they're better off with more experienced caregivers.
The advertising for this movie was clever. They stuck M3gan's face on bus stops everywhere and I caught an uncomfortable gaze of her driving home every single day 😆 I'm normally too squeamish about horror movies too see them, but after seeing your review, I think I'd laugh more than be scared 😄 Cheers, critic!
This is just a guess, but I think the reason Megan did the hallway dance was to throw David off guard so she can get the blade from the paper cutter. If she just walked over to it, David would’ve noticed and had a better chance to escape
Megan has that special place in my heart right next to Snakes On A Plane, Demon's Knight, The Toxic Avenger, Lou Ferrigno's Hercules 1 & 2, and the first Guyver movie! 🖤🖤🖤
I watched this with my engineering friend and he was like, "Why did they give her servos powerful enough to do all that stuff?" Which actually is a good point.
I have to say Jenna Davis does a amazing job in this film and she really brings one of the best performances probably of this year and she really makes this story feel believable and makes M3GAN so terrifying and creepy that you really feel unsafe whenever she on the screen and I just hope she has a amazing career because from she’s shown us so far she could go some places with her acting in the near future which i hope she does
You didn't mention the genius of the line "Seriously, flush the toilet". It shows the doll does indeed become impatient despite what Gemma thought and that this should have alerted Gemma to the fact that something wasn't right
Well, for that scene where they tested megan out, and the girl cried, and megan cheered her up. It was, for me, the most heartwarming scene in the movie
I saw the dance as Megan feeling like she can finally let loose. Like she’s taking her own freedom and choosing to express it in a way that keeps the boss distracted long enough for her to get a weapon.
I saw this in the movie with my best friend and we had a blast! There was even a crazy old lady in the theater who was saying nonsense. One of the things she said was in the scene where Cady slaps Gemma and this woman said “If I was her I’d slap the shit out of her” and my best friend lost it 😂
Respect for writing in that Orson Wells joke at the beginning. I'd have never gotten it if I didn't see them do it in Animaniacs, that is a deep cut right there.
"You did not just tell me that !?!" is so perfect ! The guy not necessarily concerned about the coming lawsuit, he's concerned that he can't invoke plausible deniability for himself now that she told him in front of witnesses !
The CGI wasn’t as bad in theaters as it looked in the trailer. It was actually pretty seamless. I assume they went that route because they wanted her to look real enough yet still unsettling. If the girl that plays her wore the mask it’d look to fake. & if they went the route Ex Machina did, she’d look too real. Plus the 3rd act would look way more disturbing & off putting if they did that.
Fun fact: the creators of this movie, Blumhouse, are in the process of making another horror movie based of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, which is expected to come out on October 27
I LOVE this movie. I went in thinking it was going to be a run of the mill horror movie with a child robot. What I found was a movie that had fun with all of that. So great!
When the chucky reference came up I was SO disappointed that not once the line "i have a date with a six year old boy" line was used with this obviously 15 year old kid at the woods. Also, i genuinely thought the scene of the introduction to the investors was made very well. I almost shed a tear for the emotional delivery of that girl... and the way M3GAN responded was ...unsettlingly human. The rest was pure insane fun!
To quote the late great Norm MacDonald and something i'm sure Jenna Davis might be thinking about is "With the computer and stuff, the difference between a rich guy and a poor guy, to me, is nothing. Because I don't like big houses, I don't drive a car, so you know, I just live in a small apartment and I have my computer, which is really cool."
Another Fun Fact: The idea for the film began when James Wan's Atomic Monster Productions was brainstorming story ideas and chose one about a killer doll. Although the Wan produced film Annabelle (2014) is about a killer doll, he said, "Pretty much the concept is about embracing technology too much and relying too much on it. And what happens when technology runs amok. It's a commentary on the world we live in and it feels relevant." Jason Blum stated that the film would have black comedy elements which is one reason Gerard Johnstone was chosen to direct, saying "We needed someone who can do the thrills and set pieces, but who also has a cheeky approach." Wan admired Johnstone's film Housebound (2014) because of his ability to balance the horror and comedy elements by creating a tone that is both frightening and humorous, and this sensibility was essential for M3GAN.
I just woke up one day and decided "I wanna go watch a movie". Saw the title and looked up a poster and thought it looked neat. Best choice I made that day and it was awesome. It was such a fun movie and loved the tone it had.
It's nice to see a Horror film lay into the Dark Comedy aspect a bit more and it actually work because there have been a lot of Dark Comedies before this who have try to do this same thing and just didn't capture the charm
Just wanted to thank everyone for keeping their imaginations alive and well through the suspension of belief film that is M3GAN! Every now and then, we need entertainment that says THIS IS WHAT WE ARE, AND WE KNOW IT. SO JUST ENJOY IT 😂! On a side note, several TH-cam videos popped up showing behind the scenes footage of M3GAN. Seeing the work that went into making it all possible reminded me of the Cryptkeeper animatronic figure from that great anthology series. When you get caught up in the tale, the host comes off as genuinely creepy and funny all at once. Yeah, he's got the undead vibe and hideous face. But he's not completely evil when reminding kiddies that their actually watching morality tales. Same goes with this film. I mean, let's be real, A.I. has always come with negative connotations. No piece of horror or Sci-fi would work if sentient beings were all good. They come from complex humans, and therefore, will develop complex attitudes about life. We just never learn...😂
I saw this one by myself & I had a good time. It’s such a silly movie, but there’s some good commentary on technology and its impact on younger generations. Plus Violet McGraw as Cady was heartbreaking, Alison Williams channeled her acting skills from “Get Out” (compared to her subpar Peter Pan in that live show) & a I like that Megan was both animatronic but also a live actress; a nice throwback to the OG “Child’s Play”
For what the film is trying to do i think it does a great job at it and it shows you don't have to have a really terrifying monster that's all big and scary you can just have a doll and still make it thrill ride
A Behind the Scenes Fact: Kimberley Crossman voiced M3GAN during production and it wasn't until later Jenna Davis' voice was added. However, during the film, Crossman's voice could still have been used, especially for the scenes where M3GAN got angry and used profanity towards Gemma.
I remember a couple ppl got mad at me cuz that song of the old dog threw me so off guard and i could not stop laughing. This movie has plenty of dark humor i really enjoyed it
To me the best part IS the imperfect CG of Megan's face. I can never tell if she was driven by real emotions (A.I.) or just part of her programming. It's creepy as hell.
I always thought the dance was forced just to create a Tick-tock dance trend. The creators of Wednesday didn't intend to create a trend, it happened organically and fans took it from there. With Megan it was, "Here's a new trend for you. Come on guys, do the Meagan dance. Don't you want to make this into Tick-tock?"
19:39-19:43 In case you missed it, she's playing Martika's "Toy Soldiers" (which was sampled by Eminem for his version of Toy Soldiers in 2004) there! XD

It's nice to see James Wan get more credit for how great of a filmmaker he is
If I remember correctly this film was the first of the new Atomic Monster (James Wan's Company) & Blumhouse Merger so hopefully we'll get more ^^
Agreed
The corporate grind of DC management swallowed him whole. He's not as risky and unique as he used to be.
He only produced this one
As in Aquaman's James Wan?
Nostalgia Critic reviewed a movie that was released at the beginning of this year. M3GAN should come at Halloween Horror Nights
I love the fake predation thing she did. She wasn’t carried off, she let the kid take her to a place she could attack.
It’s an interesting and badass or scary trope depending on how it’s used.
It’s always a good day when a new Nostalgia Critic video is posted
yeah
Build that wall
Been loving Doug ever since his Neverending Story 2 review
Agreed!
@@chasehedges6775 I've been a fan since his power rangers movie review! He never disappoints!
I honestly cheered when Cady brought out the gloves and introduced M3GAN to BRUCE
As someone who is not a big fan of horror/scary films, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie!
Malcolm's line, " she said yes," just gets me every time.😂😂😂
Malcolm kills me. Lol
This movie basically follows the plot of a lot of late 70's and 80's horror movies. It doesn't try to subvert expectations, and audiences got exactly what they came to see. After an era of that not being the case, M3gan is actually one of the best representations of nostalgia we've gotten in a long time.
The dance while iconic is both hilarious and creepy
I love moments like that in movies.
It was hilarious and absurd. Where did she even learn that dance. It’s not even a checkovs gun thing. It just came out of nowhere. So funny. Like she’s been trained on Reddit and TikTok.
Really not iconic y’all gotta stop pushing that word out for everything
@@RichardServello If you watched the movie and paid attention, you would know.
@@MrAjking808 To you.
I like that they added some thought to this. Like the fact that Cady uses Bruce to beat M3gan, and Bruce is also how Cady and Gemma were able to bond for the first time. It pairs nicely with the commentary that a child needs human connection, using their bond to save the day.
Hey just wanted to say y'alls videos are so special to me they have helped me through a lot. So thank you

How did he not put that in there!!??
It wasn't really out of nowhere; it was Megan becoming aware of what she is, and what she can do, along with comforting Katie.
Also, the singing was BEAUTIFUL. Honestly never realized what a great song it is until hearing it as an acoustic cover without the stupid ass techno beat.
Why do retards like you feel the need to lie for absolutely no reason? Nobody was laughing. Nobody thinks this derpy garbage is funny or charming in any way
What's even more scary about this film is that it kind of feels like something that would actually happen in real life
Honestly at this point, yeah.
Considering what is going on with AI right now we best be prepared.
It really doesn't, though.
@@miguelbranquinho7235 People have really low standards so guess that is where it comes from...
The self awareness in this opening routine brings me an "uncanny" level of joy.
And the Orson Welles gag out of nowhere man...
Remember everyone, just because you're related doesn't mean you're capable of taking care of a child. That doesn't mean you can't love them, it just means you love them and are wise enough to realize they're better off with more experienced caregivers.
I still have to say this is one the best Dark Comedy Horror Films i've seen in quite sometime
Koooooones
The advertising for this movie was clever. They stuck M3gan's face on bus stops everywhere and I caught an uncomfortable gaze of her driving home every single day 😆 I'm normally too squeamish about horror movies too see them, but after seeing your review, I think I'd laugh more than be scared 😄 Cheers, critic!
movie sucks
This is just a guess, but I think the reason Megan did the hallway dance was to throw David off guard so she can get the blade from the paper cutter. If she just walked over to it, David would’ve noticed and had a better chance to escape
That Toy Soldiers moment, just got me, that's the point where laughing began to hurt.
I feel like this took inspiration from the 2019 child's play with the CGI Chucky doll
That 5 seconds of dancing in the trailer accounted for 90% of ticket sales. Villains doing creepy dances are really catching on.
Megan has that special place in my heart right next to Snakes On A Plane, Demon's Knight, The Toxic Avenger, Lou Ferrigno's Hercules 1 & 2, and the first Guyver movie! 🖤🖤🖤
I watched this with my engineering friend and he was like, "Why did they give her servos powerful enough to do all that stuff?"
Which actually is a good point.
It shows the doll does indeed become impatient despite what Gemma thought and that this should have alerted Gemma to the fact that something wasn't right
Fun fact: the dog owner is played by Lori dungey, who played a hobbit extra in lord of the rings fellowship of the ring
Okay wow Tamara as M3gan is weirdly insanely amazing????? It’s weirdly uncanny because she looks so much like her but also not????
it's T4m4r4 ☺
@@LuriTV You right, you right, sorry T4m4r4 XDDD

My god, that was some world class acting from Malcolm
Somehow even in that outfit M3GAN still is so creepy
I hope this film makes a lot more younger fans of horror and also let's them check more Horror Movies and see what's so great about the genre
The quality of this channel has improved so much the past couple years. The acting, writing and comedy is actually good these days.
7:52 made me laugh, then I remember that Florida is pretty much America's own mini Australia, with the dangerous wildlife, and I laughed harder
Now I finally know what M3gan's design/face and face animation remind me of! The face design and animation of the puppets from Team America!
Omg yess lol
I would definitely have loved to see this movie when it was rated R.
Rated R would be awesome
Wouldn't that just be the same but gorier?
4:14 "Go away!"
"Mmmh!"
The indignant turn, hahaha!
"Shut up, Meg"-Peter Griffin
The M3gan design looks like what a live action remake of Team America would look like.
I just woke up one day and decided "I wanna go watch a movie". Saw the title and looked up a poster and thought it looked neat. Best choice I made that day and it was awesome. It was such a fun movie and loved the tone it had.
4:28 It's like the love child of Furby and a Troll doll were thrown down the stairs.

Chapline: Master, you forgot to feed me breakfast again.
10:28 " You've been watching too much everything that's ever been made"
GREAT line.

Critic: Did you eat Malcom’s foot?
T4M4R4: *yes*
Critic: See? She had nothing to do with it.
Malcom: SHE SAID YES!
Wow, Cinemasins and Nostalgia Critic making M3gan videos on the same week. What a time to be alive.
18:55 what I think she was doing was too keep him from noticing she was slowly getting closer to the machete
For what the film is trying to do i think it does a great job at it and it shows you don't have to have a really terrifying monster that's all big and scary you can just have a doll and still make it thrill ride
8:33 The Terminator joke is the most accurate representation of the Terminator Movies ever been displayed
I absolutely love this video and made my Wednesday feel a whole lot better and thanks for giving your thoughts on this movie ❤❤❤
When M3gan tells a story to her, I get a Teddy Ruxpin feel from her. I'm surprised you didn't get that idea and bring, you know who, back.
This movie was like Child’s play Meets Terminator in Happy Death Day. Creepy, badass and funny at the same time!
(19:16 - 19:22) - I wasn't expecting the "Meme Me" part from It (2017) to make a comeback, but it looks like it has!
Lauren from Power Rangers Samurai?

Malcom: "She ate my legs" :'v

I remember a couple ppl got mad at me cuz that song of the old dog threw me so off guard and i could not stop laughing. This movie has plenty of dark humor i really enjoyed it
To me the best part IS the imperfect CG of Megan's face. I can never tell if she was driven by real emotions (A.I.) or just part of her programming. It's creepy as hell.
The dance was the best scene of all time that I hope the sequel do the same.
(sees thumbnail) Shut up, M3g.
I didn’t think Megan’s dance was pointless. She was trying to distract the guy in the hallway so she could grab the blade without him running away
5:46 and those wretched makeup games
The problem with the movie is that it's neither funny nor scary, and it tries to be both.
I love this movie so much! It is one of the best films of 2023 so far! And one of the funniest too!
It was surprisingly entertaining!
@@Overseer2579 without a doubt
19:39-19:43 In case you missed it, she's playing Martika's "Toy Soldiers" (which was sampled by Eminem for his version of Toy Soldiers in 2004) there! XD
