      Other than "just" low light, the Ace Pro is also better in terms of details, sharpness, dynamic range, less distortion, overheating resistance, mount, start up time and fast charging
      BUT yes, gopro is still a good choice. But the reasons to choose it over the competition is a lot slimmer than it used to

    Nice summary! I have a Hero 11 with a cracked screen so at some point I'll cash in that warranty and upgrade my camera. I do that like that flip screen. Could be very helpful for setting up shots but your caveat about it being a moving part is true. Like those pause/cancel functions. I thought the GoPro had better sound but man, that low light filming was impressive. That's where the GoPro really suffers for me.

    - non-removable lens cover
    - heavier

    Great review, as for the mount, yah, wonder why they did that, I think the idea was the first stage was magnet so in a stationary position, you can pop it out easily and for sports, you press in to lock, not sure if that's a good idea lol. Their quick release mount is a good addition, also, I wouldn't be surprise to see aftermarket replacement for that plate underneath because it's removable. There's already tons of aftermarket mounts for this camera out. p.s. 8K on this is very young but at least it's got the processor behind it, I have a funny feeling it will get refined in future firmware releases if I know Insta360 well ;)

      @@JohnBaxendale Yah I know lol the one that comes with has been getting mixed reviews, some say it's more secure some say that it's not, I'll know when I get mine. Tbh, I don't like the design, it's odd looking and kind of big. There's already been aftermarket 'quick release' mounts out there, similar to the one by Insta360 but price is a bit hefty for a rinky dinky thing like that, $20 to $30, sold, not $50. I picked up an aftermarket one for $15, let's see how it is lol

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It seems like you can only pause resume by tapping the screen. GoPro does have a “manual white balance” setting that probably could have gotten the images closer but realistically I think 99.99% of users of action cameras are using auto white balance.

    • @roninr8199

      @@ChaseTheSummit thanks for the reply. Since my go pro mounts on helmet I use quick capture to pause and record. I wear heavy gloves so no way to keep removing gloves then cam then resume record.

When I turned it back on it was warm to the touch and will no longer recognize the SD card, restarting it multiple times taking the sd card out and back in multiple times, the camera still doesn’t show an SD card is in there. I waited about an hour for it to cool down and it seems to be working normally again with the previous 17mins 8k clip still on the card. Doing another test now to see if it happens again.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No misunderstanding. I'm referencing the actual "quick release" mechanism which is the same on the standard adapter and the separately purchased adapter. The mount itself isn't my complaint it's the design of the mechanism where it's not totally clear when the camera is fully secured or if it's just being held in place by magnets which allow it to easily fall off.

    • @JohnBaxendale
      @JohnBaxendale 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I read the fine print. It appears that after the “free trial” ends AI Warp will remain free when used 3 times per day, after that will require a subscription. • @MiyagisRant
    @MiyagisRant 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The funniest thing is I've been binge watching reviews for the Ace Pro because i'm in the market for an upgrade between the Ace and Action 4, sorry, GoPro is not even on my list. The two biggest deciding factors are the low light shooting for my use and the zoom, two of the biggest request for action cams for years now, I use to sell cameras and now a company has actually came out with hit, everyone is picking on the removeable screen protector LOL I don't get it, and it's an easy fix, UV ND filter, problem fixed and cheaper then a gopro lens protector replacement, it's literally the same thing actually, it provides another layer of protection and you have UV, I honestly just don't get it.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the issue is that even with a UV protector if the camera were to hit something hard enough you can shatter, scratch, or crack the built in glass cover. This is an action camera so it's going to be in situations where that could happen (motorcycle, dirtbike, outside of car, etc...). If the glass cracks then it's a repair ticket with Insta360. GoPro learned their lesson with this and made that part replaceable. To me it seems like a no-brainer design which is why every other action camera (including DJI has replaceable lenses). Kinda strange they left that out of it in my opinion. Even the Insta360 Go 3 and Go 2 have replaceable lenses!

    • @MiyagisRant
      @MiyagisRant 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChaseTheSummit I agree in terms of ruggedness with the lens cover, personally owning 8 action cams I have yet to destroy any screen protector, lucky I guess and I do quite a bit of extreme sports. But I'm paranoid with my devices, if it's going to get rough, the housing goes on for extra protection as I scuba dive with mine. Also, I believe Insta360 has announced free lens protection repair for a year and you can opt into a 2 year extended warranty for quite cheap. Yah, was weird because the pre launch models they sent to testers had removeable lens protection, wonder they they changed that for final release.

    • @MiyagisRant
      @MiyagisRant 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChaseTheSummit That said, no different then GoPro or DJI's getting hit hard on the front display, that's a more expensive part to repair. But yah, it was a bad decision but I can't pass up the rest of that camera's features.

    • @craigshandworld
      @craigshandworld 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Im sorta in this boat. Yes, Im worried about breaking it, But some of the features it has is sorta deal for people like me that hate editing. The AI thing auto finding clips is going to be so handy for me. Editing seems super easy on this. The flip screen is cool but ive read a lot of reviews of people also being annoyed. Filming yourself then having to flip the screen every time you switch the other direction to film. They should have added a screen at the front too. Im still struggling to decidfe between all 3 camera options. @@MiyagisRant

    25 minutes of video talking about and praising these 8K.... I look at the clips shown and I see:
    - the difference between the 5.3K of the GoPro and the 8K of the AcePro are minimal (without considering all the limitations of 8K)
    - when shooting even with JUST A LITTLE bit of movement in the undergrowth (which is the normal use of an action cam) all the advantage of the AcePro's large sensor is lost! All the shadow areas lose detail (even more than the GoPro!)... and this is also strange... why?
    After this video I'm happy I got the Gopro12! For the use for which it was designed, it is still not outdated!
    (only?) For VLOG the AcePro in the dark is is undoubtedly better.... hoping it doesn't break the display and the lens!

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Keep in mind the 8K footage shown in this video was 24p on a 30p timeline so there will be some frame blurs and drops in there that won’t look great but overall resolution should look accurate. In real life the difference is subtle. The 5.3k on the GoPro is a bit oversharpened which can make it appear sharper than it actually is compared to the Ace Pro. But yeah. These are action cameras not cinema cameras lol.

I was hoping to use this Ace Pro on my cruise next week but now I don't know after the shockingly horribly made cheap mounting system they put on this camera.

      The mount is super secure once it’s fully seated. My complaint is only that it’s hard to tell when it’s fully seated!

      They sell a different mount separately which is far better, but more $ I feel like that should have came with the camera.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This video is not sponsored. I was not paid to make this video, I purchased the cameras in the video with my own money, and the companies that make these cameras didn't ask me to produce it. With that said, there are affiliate links in the description which provide me with a small (very small like 2%) commission if you decide to buy something. I put links there to help pay for the gear I buy to make these videos for the channel. That tiny commission does not make this video "sponsored" and it's pretty commonplace on TH-cam. Hope that clears things up for you.

    As someone who works with 10Bit everyday.
    Go Pro is Better in every way.
    Ace Pro is sure good at AI upscale but this can be done in Resolve.
    Ace Pro Colo especially in skin tones is off.

      Every way? Eh... low light on the Ace Pro is still MILES ahead but I do enjoy the image that comes out of the GoPro. For some reason it does feel a bit more "real" when it comes to colors. They're both great cameras though.

    Just got hold of the Insta360 Ace and can safely say that the footage is horrific out of the camera. Watch any review video and peoples faces are not in focus and have an HDR / Ai Smoothing effect on them. Comparing it side by side with my Osmo Action 4 the Osmo is way better. Sadly the Insta is going to have to go back.

      These cameras don’t actually have “focus” since the lenses are so wide everything is in infinite focus. I’m not sure I see the pixelation you’re talking about but thanks for sharing your opinion.

      They certainly lean towards blue/green a bit more than the GoPro. To be fair the GoPro goes a little too far in the red/orange direction. It's sort of the Canon/Sony camera debate at the action camera level!

      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’ll get about an hour of 8K on a 128gb card which isn’t too bad. Like I said in the video the value is having the ability to crop in when editing. I do that all the time and having extra detail would be great I just wish it supported more frame rates like 30p!

    • @_Dibbler_
      @_Dibbler_ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here, I have to crop in a lot and I´d love to have 8k, not as final video resolution, but as cropping material to still be at 4k after post. I agree though that 30p would have been important. Maybe with an update

      @@_Dibbler_Exactly, there was major features removed in the release of the GoPro 8 though, you couldn't get the GPS data out, nor use the gauges. They basically sold the camera with those features then made it difficult to use them. Screw GoPro, they'll never get my money again.
