Great advice, cool spiders.. I hadn't considered that their greatest trick "rejuvenation by moulting" could be quite that precarious, I'd seen some die from a problem when moulting but hadn't seen them in a defective state as a result... Now I know. Thanks Beasties!

I have a king baboon. I was so scared rehousing her but she is so much sweeter than most of my new worlds. All my tarantulas belonged to my daughter who unfortunately passed away last February. My fear actually turned into loving and caring for them. She held her king baboon, as it's actually out quite often, and the reputation about them is so wrong on the internet. Very cool tarantulas I'm originally from N.Ireland living in Las Vegas. Love your videos

Awww, seeing her leg twisted like that made me so sad. It looks like her chelicerae might have been affected too? (She seems to have trouble moving them apart...) I hope her next moult fixes the problems the last one caused. Poor spider. :(

I'm not a big fan of spiders. I like them at a very safe distance, which is very very far away from me, yet I find them interesting all the same. You take such care with your arachnids and it shows in the level of patience you have. Thank you for what you do.
Be careful or you'll end up like me! I used to be absolutely terrified of all things arachnid, would literally run out of the room screaming if i seen a house spider. Now, I'm completely in love with them! Cant wait for my teenage kids to finally move out so i can turn 1 of their bedrooms (or maybe both 🤷♀️) into my own version of the beastie room! 🤣🤣🤣

I see mine more frequently than my other more shy species. I feed them smaller prey, and so, they come out to “hunt” and web more frequently, and I get to feed them as often as I feed the others that way.

I need to re-house mine,i have a juvie since a sling nearly 2 years old now and it's really rusty orange,beautiful colour,about 2+ inchs now and always been kept in a square small container,gave it a water bowl when it was younger but always buried it so i took it out and just sprayed the whole time,it's very healthy and plump now so i think a molt is pending soon. mine i get to see quite a bit as the substrate isn't deep,like yours was in a large sling pot and it's thrived..beautiful species but quite spicy attitude lol

This was fascinating. Having watched a lot of your rehousing videos, seeing one where you had to excavate the resident was really different. Nice that they each cooperated with your narrative. We got to watch their strong hole-homing behavior, and actually got to SEE one of the creatures itself. Thanks, and keep them coming.
Ah bless her with the fused leg really hope she molts that leg out. I have an adult female h.gigas and I agree you really dont need 2 metres of substrate I've set up just a tad bit more then a terrestrial and shes made a nice burrow and I can keep an eye on her so much better to maintain too. Dave, when you gave the other spider the leftover food that the large king baboon didnt eat, he rolled onto his back after grabbing it and i thought for a second the food killed him!! What odd behavior that was. Lol
That is one benefit of having 8 legs. If one is damaged, it will still be coping. Imagine if one of our legs was bad. Nice video. A favourite speicies that one!

I was thinking of doing just one big display for a King Baboon but a big one,16 gallons, too big or just right size ?. I figure bigger is better and I want clear plastic but not glass for a big spider. I also like how the top is secure on a pill shaped fermenter, screw on lid but you can stick arm in. It's like a giant pill shape, 34 inches tall x 14 inches so quite big for a spider but would make a nice project for a display. Would be one of a kind, I guess I could always do half dirt and that would work with 17 inches of dirt the rest extra space for something else above the dirt, a fake plant or whatever. Plastic is nice, if you can add draining holes and vents easily and just recently new plastics have come out, mostly for brewing beer. You can even hang them from rafters full of beer, they seem equally suited as tarantula enclosures, especially lightweight and nice. The clear ones seem like even better for tarantulas than actually brewing beer with, who needs to watch your beer fermenting ?. not terribly expensive either. They seem nicer designs than some aquariums, purely on accident they made the perfect plastic terrariums to make beer with, I find it all very ridiculous. Wish the pet store was making beer, so they could think more clearly about containers, not everything needs a glass cage with silicone. You can even get clear plastic orbs, 7 gallons with a lid for brewing beer, sphere shaped jug and why did they need that for beer and not for pets ?. The best looking aquariums are bowfronts and seamless acrylic anyways, so a 16 gallon pill shape is what we actually wanted for this animal enclosure to look nice from different angles, but for beer does not matter at all. Means, we are not getting the full amount of choices as the consumer of pets and pet products, when it comes to plastics specifically they don't make anything seamless besides acrylic tanks and small plastic totes. We could use the XL clear plastic totes.
I caught a spotted orb weaver in my house…it made a huge web over night. I don’t like walking into a web face first…lol. But I caught in a plastic container I renamed a catch cup…lol. It got a bit chilly last night…below 60 and it was curled into a tight ball this morning, I thought it had died. I will put it in a warmer place and catch a cricket.
I have never let any of my T's dig down deep into burrow mode in small enclosure for this very reason, moult on the surface and they are fine, I had one of this species and even as an adult she was fine in enclosure with no room to burrow, and had her for 10 years from a juv.

One of my first spiders getting into the hobby, was a King Baboon. The stridulation was almost scary at first. Almost sounded like acid eating away at something. Beautiful species though. She got some serious size too. Thanks guys! We All appreciate your content, videography, and the info that you have to provide. ;)
Enjoyed this Video, I wonder because I recently seen this species on line If you would consider this on I think it is a really colourful spider, If I could keep one it would be something I would consider is the Bolivian Tiger (Linothele fallax)
Beautiful spiders as always. I heard stories about Kings and obts for years how bad and what not. Pfft. I've got chilobrachys haunin every single one puts an obt to shame. IAM heavy in the Asian old world. The haunin is by far the most full on unless they are eating or stays in their burrow spider I've worked with.
Such a pretty looking spider! My OBT passed away a couple of days ago and I have no idea why 😢 I got her as an adult female a couple of weeks ago (she wasn’t fully grown yet). She webbed the enclosure up quite a bit and ate once. All of a sudden she was sitting in front of the front glass door in a death curl 😢 I’m devastated
Thats very sad , sometimes its difficult to work out what went wrong , I would suggest maybe your spider had something wrong with it to start with as they are generally very hardy and can deal with a lot , for iy to die in a few weeks it probably wasn't anything you have done 👍

Yeah, i`ve heard that these guys hide more than most other spiders, they like to be hidden. That male Therephosa was one hungry boy, i enjoyed watching him chow down. These two were a good size! As you said, i`ve heard they`re pretty slow growers, so if you can find some adults at a show (as you mentioned, there`s a few coming up, perhaps you`ll record them for the channel) and fast forward this breeding project by potentially a few years. Hopefully her leg re-adjusts itself in her next moult (is it a female even or unknown?). That or just falls off and perhaps re-generates on the moult after the next one? My king makes tunnels all over his enclosure its really cool because I can see him running around in his tunnels.

One of my first spiders getting into the hobby, was a King Baboon. The stridulation was almost scary at first. Almost sounded like acid eating away at something. Beautiful species though. She got some serious size too. Thanks guys! We All appreciate your content, videography, and the info that you have to provide. ;)

I heard stories about Kings and obts for years how bad and what not.
Pfft. I've got chilobrachys haunin every single one puts an obt to shame. IAM heavy in the Asian old world. The haunin is by far the most full on unless they are eating or stays in their burrow spider I've worked with.

My OBT passed away a couple of days ago and I have no idea why 😢 I got her as an adult female a couple of weeks ago (she wasn’t fully grown yet). She webbed the enclosure up quite a bit and ate once. All of a sudden she was sitting in front of the front glass door in a death curl 😢 I’m devastated
Thats very sad , sometimes its difficult to work out what went wrong , I would suggest maybe your spider had something wrong with it to start with as they are generally very hardy and can deal with a lot , for iy to die in a few weeks it probably wasn't anything you have done 👍

I apologise for the late comment, been busy with school and work and had to post-pone your video until tonight my friend.
Great video as usual Dave! Yeah, i`ve heard that these guys hide more than most other spiders, they like to be hidden. That male Therephosa was one hungry boy, i enjoyed watching him chow down. These two were a good size! As you said, i`ve heard they`re pretty slow growers, so if you can find some adults at a show (as you mentioned, there`s a few coming up, perhaps you`ll record them for the channel) and fast forward this breeding project by potentially a few years. Hopefully her leg re-adjusts itself in her next moult (is it a female even or unknown?). That or just falls off and perhaps re-generates on the moult after the next one? We will have to see, only time will tell us, right Dave? Alright, well i think that`s it for me, Dave. I`m off to watch your next extra long video as it`s already out at the time of writing this (23:24 Monday). I hope you, Camera Lady and the Beasties are well and i will see you next time my friend!
