- Concert from Maastricht with some Titanic pictures and footage added. Video made in honour of the heroic band onboard the Titanic and the over 1500 people who lost their lives on April 15. 1912.
Gentleman, it has been a honour playing with you tonight.
On this the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking I thought it appropriate to watch this and now I'm sobbing after having seen the footage and photographs accompanied by this most beautiful version of this lovely hymn as performed by Andre Rieu and his orchestra. For all those souls lost that night: Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon them, may they rest in peace. Amen.
I remember the last time I saw andre rieu here in columbus, they did this and by the time he was done, there wasn,t a dry eye in the house, and I,m no exception, I cried like a baby, I knew a survivor of the disaster, he worked for my family for many years till his death when I was ten, thank you for posting this, one of the best renditions I have ever heard
may all the lost soles aboard the titanic rest in peace and also the survivors of the titanic and other ships
if you don,t cry when you listen to this, you don,t have feelings because this song means so much, and in your minds eye you see the titanic going down as you listen and you think of all the people who died that horrible night in 1912, so if you don,t get a tear in your eye when you listen to this you either don,t have feelings or you are a very strong person if you can keep from feeling like you want to cry

Beautiful Welsh Hymn. Every time I listen to it brings tears to my eyes. May all the souls who parish on that night onboard the Titanic rest in peace.

Very moving! And how thoughtful of Andre to include that gracious tribute to the courageous band of the Titanic whose incredible fortitude was exemplary and way beyond the call of duty. We can only admire such bravery in the face of the horrific and certain end that awaited them.

I understand that their were independent men who never had met each other before yet were in the Titanic's band decided rather than leave the ship to save themselves they went down with the ship playing Nearer My God to Thee. God bless all who perished..
I watched the film at the cinema 8 times before buying the video and it was and still is incredible and movingly poignant and also melancholy in its sadness !!!

If people thik, that this hymn is all about the Titanic, it isn´t correct. In my native country of Greenland, this hymn is sung, everytime, there is a funeral. So, when I went to see the Titanic movie, I cried, when this hymn was played over the soundtrack, with the heart-breaking scenes of people about to die..
The same situation in my country, Hungary. This song has been translated into hungarian long time ago and often sung in funerals. When my father died this was one of the songs that were sung in his funeral.
It was appropriate.. The hymm is about feeling close to god. The people still on deck knew they had pretty much zero chance of survival. I guess it was the band saying screw it.. Time to make our peace and meet our maker.

I remember mr goldsmith telling my brother and I even though we were too young to really understand that he was five years old when the titanic went down, he and his mother were put in a lifeboat but his father was not allowed, and when the ship started to go down, his mother pulled him down into her lap and covered his head so he would not see his fathers fate( his father went down on the titanic), he didn,t realize his father wasn,t coming back till they arrived in new york

My husband's grand father helped to build the Titanic and should have sailed on it as a stoker, but unfortunately or fortunately he missed the boat by minutes only with other stokers who had gone for a drink waiting for the boat to take off, but a steward would not let them on saying that they were stowaways, grand father was killed whilst building another ship on Harland and Wolfe's dockside!

I thought it was the RMS Titanic not the SS Titanic,
but anyway all in all a lovely song and my heart goes to the life lost and there family's, but also to the people that lived. in there hard time to get over such an event.
On lunch she was Steam Ship Titanic, the lifeboats has SS Titanic on them, but on her maiden voyage she was designated to carry the Royal Mail and could be called Royal Mail Steamer Titanic...

Are you sure I've seen a photograph of her under construction in Belfast beside her sister Olympic. Each dock has the ship's name signposted, Titanic's reads "White Star, Royal Mail Steamer, Titanic." That being said if you read the UK board of trade report it is titled as report of the "loss of the Steam Ship Titanic" and in the report she is sometimes referred to as SS Titanic, and often simply as "The teamer Titanic."
