Glad you found it useful. So far it is working well. Minimal to no sag/twisting since the install.

    1) leaving that center post at the gate also helps camouflages as looking as part of the fence.
    2) the brace you used at the 4x6 post should have been a steel cable, not wood (or a steel bar).
Still a great gat setup if you can't afford a steel frame gate.

That's pretty smart and creative. Hidden gate. I want to make one with a 8' total double swing gate (4' each) so I can pull a car in the back if needed. It'll be fun if I can get some free time but this Florida heat can be discouraging sometimes

Appreciate the comment. Yea the Florida heat definitely makes gate/fence projects a fall/winter project. I’m going to post a update video soon to follow this one up. You’ll be able to see how it’s held up! If you have any questions when you start your project don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the ideas. How is it holding up this far down the line since then?

Great job. I think over time these would sag based on the one support diag boards. And the fact that these sections were not meant to ever be a load bearing gate. The ends crack, split and fail. Fixed with but two screws (no matter how many screws)and very long expanse which means holding up a ton of weight. It won't matter. That board will warp. Break down and split and crack to where it won't keep holding year after year. Basically you would need (for longevity) a square tubing steel frame that the fence sections mount to with steel diag structure included. 1" or 2" square tubing. I think the hinges are fine and will hold even a heavier gate. The problem with long expanses of constructed fence is that its not really designed to hold its on self up. Meaning it was not a gate nor was intended to be one. Not structured to become one either. Turning fence sections into gates changes the game for sure and no matter how much structure you have in the way of lumber, over time it gives up its tensile strength and breaks down due to weather. It also will warp badly if left open or unfastened. Due to the long expanse with nothing holding it vertically ridged. . I think double gates always need double cross support diagonally and that needs to always be metal. Even encased in corner brackets and cable the wood gives up its strength over time and no matter the design, it will succumb to weakness and rot.
Over all a great quick fix and unique set up for sure. And good for a few seasons. Well worth the effort. I give it five years max. Still over all a great job and great video.

So far there has been little deformation in nearly two years. I did however plan for this to not last a eternity. I agree that if building from scratch a metal frame and hinges that take grease would be the best solution to combat the ability to cary the vertical load and exterior conditions. With the picket boards on the outside acting as a anti racking aid for the framing and the fact it is only opened once or twice a week, I would hope to see a minimum of the 5 years you are predicting. I had a 10 year or less plan to remove and build a storage garage in that area. I appreciate your input and time writing the suggestions! 🍻

Just a tip brace angle should be less than 45 . Or it will sag again

We are located the USA. You can do it, if you have a existing fence and access to the tools. It really wasn’t to difficult. It took a afternoon to complete. The hinge quantity could be more or less depending on the weight of your local lumber, you will have to estimate based on your local lumber and fence construction. I would recommend building in a 20% safety (taking the total estimated weight and add 20% to get your actual estimated working weight.) Take that actual estimated working weight and use it to determine the number of hinges required for each side.

if this was a new gate it would have warped and sagged

Anything made from wood will shrink and move. We have managed to minimize any inconveniences caused by warpage or sagging. On this instillation we have observed nearly no change in those conditions in nearly two years.
