My Lord, what a massive gate. You could keep the Romans out with that gate.
I was thinking the exact same thing, lol
Not sure how I landed on this video but I'm glad I did.what a beautiful work of art ....Love it .. From Cape Breton Island In Mabou Nova Scotia Canada........

I am stunned the post is able to bear the weight of that gate. the moment of force at the end of the gate must be at least 6000lbs. Looks great. Congratulations.
yea my concern as well. i can't imagine that post stay's plumb for long. But a nice build overall
Excellent work! The gate frame was ababsolutely magnificent!
As a semi-retired carpenter your project is a work of art. Great design and quality work will reward you for many years to come. Keep up the good work on restoring the rest of your site.
@@ericbutler7662 thank you Eric, very kind of you
This is all around amazing!! The craftsmanship, the design, the functionality, the technique, the detail, just everything! Amazing!
Not sure how I landed here but glad I did. Excellent craftsmanship and extremely well put together video production.
The end result amazes me. The parallels, the watercolors, the joint gaps are accurate, which is a serious challenge with such a large size and weight. Moreover, all this in simple conditions and with tools! Congratulations, use it with pride and health.
Was it just me or did everyones Alexa say sorry i didnt find a group or device named gate when he askled his Alexa 😁Great build by the way
Great job guys 👌 Another option for posts is digging a minimum 1.2m /4ft deep hole and compacting aggregate around the post.. that way, moisture can escape the posts and stops them rotting out at the base. Also makes replacement easier in the future and is more environmentally friendly than concrete.
I was waiting to see the cordless drill driver get squashed!! (19:34) 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 But a spiffy job indeed, looks wicked cool!!👍👍👍
@@brandenoconnor7299 yes I hadn’t noticed until it was too late, fortunately it was fine 😂 thanks Branden!
If the gate is anything to go by the house will be amazing. Makes my gate look like it’s for kindling 😮
Done this a few times, the next time around I’ll weld up a steel post mounted to a concrete base, via adjustable studs, as posts always rot out in my area.
This will be sturdy for a few years then they're gonna regret making a massive concrete bathtub for that post to rot in. Water that does get in has nowhere to go. Doesn't matter how thought out you think your plan is. Water WILL get in. Rain. Puddles. Splashes. Dew. Condensation. Snow? Jack hammering that pour gonna be a bitch.
Now that’s what you call, not worrying about the mule , and just loading the wagon!!
i made a metal gate almost identical to yours for a guy and used the same principles with the steel as you did with the wood .
It was labor intensive work but the end result is good .
The wind force on the door will be enormous,
Impressive gate. I have an understanding that the diagonal bracing should be orientated in compression rather than tension for maximum strength to prevent racking. Also you stated that you were using treated lumber, inhaling fumes of the treatment chemicals is hazardous. Your gate is a testament to your meticulous standards.
@@218philip yes that’s correct and what I went with on this gate but there are ways of constructing bracing to utilise tension.
Due to our wet climate we wanted to use treated timber for the Shou Sugi Ban as a sort of “belt and braces” approach but yes it’s not ideal burning it for sure. Thanks!
I admire not only your craftsmanship skills but also the patience to it in such fine detail. It turned out beautiful. Hats off!
Friend did a similar gate, in two parts meeting in the centre, but I don't think his posts were buried as deep. Consequently high winds shifted the posts. One post was actually bolted into the house wall and it tore the fixings out of the brick work. His gates were completely solid, yours at least have some board gaps which should make them less of a sail in high winds. Plenty of comments on it being overbuilt, but I think I'd rather expend twice the effort overbuilding it once, than having to build it twice.
Now that's a gate!
This is one of the most incredible builds I have seen on here! Such a nice job! Now I need one at my house!
Excellent job… that is truly one of the most beautiful Gates I’ve ever seen. I’ve been in construction for over 45 years. Great job!
you both did an excellent job , perfect result
Brilliant job beautiful gate 👏 👍
Fantastic result!
Brilliant! I'll look up Topens, as I've Got a 4x2m manual gate and dream of automating it! Thanks!

Beautiful install. Nice detail with the acorn nuts securing the gate assembly lag bolts.

Wow. Everything about this video is perfect. The gate, the craftsmanship, the narration. Very beautiful gate.

Benchmark job 😮
Nice Job ❤
Great content love the talk over
Very nice Work !
Engineer’s Motto: Anything worth doing is worth way over doing. This gate will withstand a nuclear blast. The gate will be standing and swinging long after the house has fallen down and turned to dust.
Archeologists will find this gate in the future and marvel at the technology.
Very nice job very nice
Good job.
Nice job, and what a nice place you got👍🏻😀

Great video! The only problem was that at exactly 22:50 you made my gate open 😂

@@TOPENS thanks! it is a great product, I only wish you sold the JY9132 as a single opener instead of just as the pair, that’s what I really needed.

Hermoso trabajo
That’s a HUGE gate! Beautiful though! Great craftsmanship bet the frame weighs 22 stone!(about 300 lbs) he says it weighed 250 kilos, that’s 550 pounds!! Whoa!
i was out to mile a poste for a customer in oak, i didn't had any machines to move it aound, so i had come up with smart ideas to move it i was 4 meters long and 40X40 cm
top tier!
Not enough can be said about how wonderful the gate is. But I am very impressed with the wireless hand truck steering/lift assist unit. A woman who works with you is an indispensable force multiplier. I am subscribing.

Great job!
I'm not sure how I'd feel if Alexa told me to "hang on" tho, LOL.
@@gregmize01 😂
Just a point ! When should Sufi ban is to be used it’s really best practice to burn both sides of the timber to prevent cupping. I absolutely understand why you’ve not done this, Cos it really is a Horribly dirty job when both completing the burning & the wire brushing. But anyway it looks a brilliant job & kudos To you.
Brilliant team work. Liked & subbed. 👌🏼
@@dougieranger thank you very much
@@project.restoration My pleasure.
Very nice work - but can you give an information on temperature and moisture dilatation of the frame?
Lovely work and gate . Hope it swings ok but not sure for how long it will stay aligned ….good luck
A bit over the top build, but an amazing gate you two made! To share your voice example for everyone to copy and use, for your security system oinline is in my idear not a smart thing to do, the same you show of to much of your security. but that is the paranoid me talking LOL. Make chances though ad a code to that command or something and don't share that. I hope that button outside has or need a code to open the gate . i forgot to lazy to look back LOL. But what a pearl of a place you have there. i can't wait to see the end result and if your gate is an indication how you do things, its gonna be beautiful!
@@bushman4124 yeah the build was just a bit of fun and an experiment to see if we could do it.
Yes don’t worry, all the systems require a code to open the gate, including Alexa.
However we are lucky enough to live in a lovely little village where there is very little (if any) crime. We’ll do our best to keep the videos coming 👍
Heavy duty tooty fruity!!!
Лайк!
Great work, just one suggestion: eye protection, particularly with power and impact tools but never a bad thing as a course of habit.
Привет из России ! Смотрим )))Подписка!
I strongly suggest you get a skate board to move heavy things by yourself. I have a heavy duty one dedicated to this. It has plenty of screw holes in various places.
@@johnlong1100 that sounds like a good idea, thanks John
in order for the gate not to slide down over time, a small wheel is required at the far end of the gate that rests on the cement foundation you cast, this is very important!!!!
@@per-goranborjesson2045 I did purchase one but wheels can not be used with an electric opening system, it was stated in the installation manual
You checked for plumb you mean? Amazing gate
