I’m from Hong Kong, and watching this makes me wanna fly to New Mexico to cook and eat some of that chicken fried rice in open fresh air. Your cowboy love is spreading far and wide Love the kung fu fighting! Thanks, Kent.
Hey bro I live in Albuquerque, NM and our doors are open to you any day!! I also had no idea Cowboy Kent was here in NM too. Born and raised here, but new to this channel 👍👍
Hii Kent. Mr. Pruett here. I'm an 80 year old wood worker and I like to use tung oil on natural wood to bring out the natural color of that wood. You'll have to keep repeating the coatings of this oil from time to time due to being outdoors in the weather. The more often you apply the oil the darker it will get. Anywhere in New Mexico where there are pine trees you'll be snowed on in winter. I'm an Arizona native boy and desert rat. Retired career firefighter and avid Harley rider. I think I have watched every show of yours and have served by family several of your masterpieces, the last was your two-bone pork chops. What a hit those were. Shure kept the conversation down at the table. Be well and God bless you and Jenn. And the puppies.
Mr. Rollins, you’re breathing hard in that NM air. We all want you to take as good care of yourself as you and Shan can. You’re appreciated by millions!
I really appreciate the fact that you “commend the Veterans that have served and kept this flag flying “. You have helped me to take pride for the sacrifices (as a veteran) that were asked. And thank you for the best hugs ever ❤
Run a torch over the surface of the wood, then a wire brush, then clear coat it. The fried rice looks delicious, and finally, from an old jar head, thank you for the love and support you show every video
@jesperwall839 it's only going to get worse until about two years into Trump being in office. Just look at how bad things are and it can't be fixed overnight
Man that makes me hungry!! As for the woodwork, Thompsons makes a product that we use on the wood walls in our horse stalls. It is a combination of sealer and stain. We use the light cedar product and apply it with a little pump up sprayer. I spray it and my wife follows up with a paint brush to brush out any runs. Has kept the wood in our barn good for 30 years! Lots of colors too. Thanks for your videos and thanks for your patriotism!! 74 year old son of a Air Force Veteran. RIP Dad! :)
Thanks Brother Kent! I always look forward to your videos. They always lift my spirits. My wife is very sick and in a nursing home. We have hope that in time when she gets better and stronger I will be able to bring her home. It’s a lot of pressure and stress on me. Your videos bring a smile to my face.
Thomespinos4148, I hear you, and wish the very best for your and your wife! There is someone out there that is thinking about you and wishing you well. b
Absolutely amazing, Kent. Where's the MSG? Water Seal is always a good idea, but don't use Thompson's. It lasts a year. There's better products out there. Pro tip: Cook the eggs all the way before adding the rice. Otherwise, the egg coats the rice and you don't get lovely chunks of egg in your fried rice.
If you want my opinion on how to finish that wood, I recommend spar varnish like they put on boats and ships at sea. It's made for outdoors and won't chip or peal from the sunshine.
Hey Kent! I was born in New Mexico and have lived in the Southwest my entire life. I can remember smelling the desert sage of New Mexico - and to this day, that smell takes me home. SO, my recommendation is to stain/paint your counter desert sage green. I can't wait to make your fried rice! 🙂
Thank you for doing this. I just got a Blackstone last Father's day. I'll take all of the Kent cooking on a Blackstone videos I can get. Looking forward to Uncle Rodgers reaction. Happy Veteran's day!! 🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
Hello Mr. Kent. I'm new around these parts. I just wanted to say that as a USMC veteran myself I sure appreciate your message at the end. The conviction and sincerity behind your words was so profound to me it brought a tear to my eye. So I thank you for that sir. You have earned a new subscriber. 10 years ago this month I spent Thanksgiving in the deserts of Afghanistan. It wasn't big, it wasn't grand. But it sure was bitterly cold. If I recall correctly I was on my 2nd day of no sleep that particular week and I had a small container of turkey with a spit of mashed potatoes in the corner that night. It sure beat having another MRE.
I am always a fan of sealed wood. I love the natural look of it and you don't have to worry about restaining/painting often, just throw a little bit of sealant on it and be done with it.
I have been using the same blackstone griddle for 8 months. This griddle does it all. I will definitely try your chicken fried rice. I have used several of your recipes. Keep those cowboy recipes cooking.
I’m a retired tool and die maker and I don’t have a machine shop in my garage, so I now spend my hobby hours working with wood! I have really enjoyed learning about the complexity of wood grain and how it will look after finish coating! Whether that may be tung oil, linseed oil, sanding sealer and polyurethane, whatever! The appearance of natural wood grain is amazing! I have to vote for a natural wood finish. Imperfections and insect damage are all part of outdoor living. Don’t bury them under an ugly layer of whatever color of whatever is handy! Let your wood talk to you!
Kent, long time woodworker here, for the type of wood you used, accentuate the grain by quickly passing a torch flame over the grain to slightly darken it for contrast, and then top coat it with a good UV stabilized/resistant exterior polyurethane. I regularly visit a friend in Deming and I know how harsh the New Mexico summer and winter months can get. I would not recommend Thompson's waterseal. Also, New Mexico is high desert, UV exposure levels there are higher ( I sunburn quickly while I'm there), that along with the monsoon season, will require more maintenance reapplication(s) of Thompson's than a good UV resistant stable exterior polyurethane. Next time you're in/near Ruidoso, head over to Village Ace Hardware and pickup some (oil based) Minwax Helmsman clear-semi gloss SPAR Urethane... good stuff! Now for the Chicken fried rice... yum. I've been making it for a long time almost the same way (corn and carrots, peas are not my favorite in fried rice). Up until a few years ago, I could easy eat hot chilies.. I use to love eating jalapeno peppers on-the-side, with a Burrito, can't tolerate the "heat" anymore... acid reflux and hemorrhoids fixed that. What goes in burning, comes out burning! ♨♨ Many times, I've contemplated keeping a roll of toilet paper cooled in the fridge for those ¡Ay, caramba! moments... LOL! Thank you greatly for coming out with the Lower Sodium Original Blend. Please do the same thing for the Mesquite smoke seasoning. The regular sodium content has been the only thing that has been holding me back in buying your seasonings. God bless You, Shannon and the furry food critics.
I kid you not back in the days my kid was doing cadets, scouts and those end of year wind ups this was the dish I served up to feed 50 screaming kids and they all loved it, cheers Kent.
Natural color of the wood looks good. Chicken fried rice is one of my favorite dishes and I've had my Blackstone for years and I absolutely love it. Great video!
My Mother-in-law gave our family a Blackstone griddle similar to that one earlier this year and we absolutely love it. An extension of our kitchen. Still exploring all of the things that can and will be cooked on that thing. Would love to see more of what you will do cooking on that griddle.
I have a Blackstone and this is my families favorite meal! I like the addition of the corn (my wife doesn't like peas either). Thanks for always making me smile with your videos. Also, I would just use Thompson's on your cabinet. I love how it brings out the grain and still looks like natural wood.
That’s so awesome ! I work at the company that produces bacon up ! It’s a great product that can be used for everything cooking related. We use it almost everyday at our house. They come in bigger packing also! They have totes up to 3 gallons!
That looks delicious! Love any kind of fried rice. Outdoor kitchen looking good, I'd go with a clear coat & let the wood grains show through. Thank the Lord for being such a faithful & merciful Savior. 🙏♥️ 🇺🇲
Looks great. I have had my Blackstone for over 5 years now. We love it. We changed from chicken to shaved steak. Also, we use Uncle Ben’s Jasmine rice pouches. Simplifies the whole cook.
Tung oil on natural wood will make it last and stay beautiful. Great video and love watching ya cook buddy. As a vet you have my vote for the best cooking show on YT. Salute!
Love my Blackstone and there is no better way to make fried rice at home. Yes, a large wok and high heat is great but I don't have access to that. Having all of that griddle surface area is fantastic.
Love the outdoor cooking area. Nice cabinet you built. I like the contrast of the natural wood in the cabinet to the walls. Use a sealer on it, and let the natural color age gracefully. Great recipe, can't wait to give it a try.
Oh My Lord! I'm making this as soon as I can Mr & Mrs Rollins , family, critters and dogs You are absolutely a National Treasure Love and many blessings from Colorado 🌲💕
OH, MAN, KENT!!! THAT looks SIMPLY AWESOME!!! You've finally made me want to TRY to make one of my FAVORITES!! THANK YOU, SIR!!! BLESS YOU & SHANNON!! HUGS to YOU, BOTH!!!

great segment Kent. Missing your hat. congratulations on the black stone. I've had the basic model for a couple of years not. i look at as a big ole cast iron skillet. its great for so many meals. play with it, cook with it and i think you'll really enjoy it. thanks for sharing.
Put a roof over that area, you will appreciate it. Just hit the cabinets with Thompsons. I personally think that it's about time that Blackstone reached out to you. You would make an awesome ambassador for the brand!
I would seal the cabinet & give it a stain that's going to be a little darker than it is, but not too dark because you already have the dark wood background. I love watching you because there may come a time we have to cook on a woodstove or firepit. Thanks Kent, Shan & pups. ❤❤❤
Well I am half Japanese and I have made fried rice a lot, chicken fried rice, ham fried rice, pork fried rice, hamburger and bacon fried rice. I use green onions, small green peas, eggs, and soy sauce and also some sweet corn, also carrots. and sesame seeds. My dad is the one that has taught me how to cook alot of good food and a lot of Japanese food. I also use a Wok because that works really good. Thanks Kent you did a good job cooking this.
Kent, As a woodworker/cabinet maker I recommend that after you treat the wood go and purchase quality covers for all of your equipment and tables. It is the Sun that will eventually eat everything up.
stain the cabinet, and leave it natural with Thompson's. Great job I have learned so much and I have been cooking and baking for over 30 years, thanks and God Bless America
I love a nice medium cherry stain, then seal the stain with Thompson water sealant would give it that nice coverage that would keep the wood protected. ❤❤❤
Oil on the natural wood would make the grain pop. Looking great. It was nice of Blackstone to give you one. I have it's little brother and love it. Just watch out for spiders in the burners. They love that propane. A skinny bottle brush will evict them without issues.
I love any and all of your content and look forward to it. Id love to see more content, more often. I think your're a very special person indeed Sir ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Thompsons on your cabinet finish
lol Kent finally got a Blackstone!!!! Good job. We got a folding one and take it with us even camping-on the boat to remote locations-they are awesome.
Since the wood cabinet is outdoors, I believe I would use a UV Resistant Clear Spar Varnish. I like the look of natural wood in many cases so clear is good. Stain is great too in its place but not here imo. This wood (pun intended 🙂) have been a good place to use eastern red cedar (actually a juniper), or Bodark (bois d'arc) (Also called Hedge Apple, Prairie Hedge, Yellow-wood, Bow Wood, Naranjo Chino, Horse Apple and a few other names) if you could find some but it is hard to come by in lumber quantities. Love the video Kent! Thank you!
God is great when you get Kent showing you how to make a wonderful Chicken Fried Rice only in 30min. Cooking channel and food network shout to y'all but Kent got it going on for all of us. Thank you to this wonderful Patriot and shout to his lovely wife and the family and them sweet pups as well. I can't wait till Thanksgiving and Christmas dishes coming out soon me and my aunt going check those out as well. Peace and May god blessed you and everybody in the U S A! That is all.
First off, sorry for you loss of home in Ruidoso. Glad that you have found another place here. I have lived in Ruidoso fo 42 years but was raised on a ranch at Elida and we still have it (my sister runs the ranch. I have severe allergies). My home is safe from the fires and flooding. I live in the vicinity of village hall. Maybe we will run across each other sometime. Really enjoying your videos. God speed.

AGREED!
I have to agree with Mr. Pruett after several misadventures with our front door on our house here in AZ tung oil worked the best .
Definitely the tung oil! I use it on EVERYTHING! My Tiger Oak kitchen table (we refinished) just has the tung oil. So gorgeous!
In NM natural wood is king. Oil it or seal it but leave it natural!

The woods' natural color looks just right. I'd say a clear sealer of some kind. As it ages with rest of the kitchen area- it'll do really well.
Agreed.👍

First off, sorry for you loss of home in Ruidoso. Glad that you have found another place here. I have lived in Ruidoso fo 42 years but was raised on a ranch at Elida and we still have it (my sister runs the ranch. I have severe allergies). My home is safe from the fires and flooding. I live in the vicinity of village hall. Maybe we will run across each other sometime. Really enjoying your videos. God speed.
Thanks and God bless you
Glad you added a Blackstone to your collection!!
We hav e sure enjoyed it
I love to watch your videos. Anyhow your country has just separated from the test of the world.😊
Put up a map of the world, then you can mark the countries of the food you've cooked. Great way to bring the world together! ❤
I like the Thompson water seal idea. A nice natural look.
People think fried rice is poor, but its way better than any fast food junk.
And way more healthy for you 😅
Keep the wood natural looking, but water and weather proof!
Awesome lookin' CFR! - Thanks. - Cheers!
Thank you Sir
