    Burt Ward and Bruce Lee lived in the same apartment complex and even sparred in real life

    • @TatankaTaylor
      @TatankaTaylor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Another fun fact: Quentin Tarantino portrayed Bruce Lee in his film "Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood" as an egomaniac who was a fraud pretending to be a real martial artist. In the film, Lee was beaten up by one of the movie's protagonists, played by Brad Pitt. That story was debunked by the real stunt man that Brad Pitt's character was supposed to be based on: Gene LeBell.
      LeBell said that Tarantino's story was bulls***. And he set the record straight about what really happened.
      He said that that the producers of the Green Hornet had hired him to make a very young Bruce Lee in his mid-20s (which contradicts Tarantino's older depiction of Lee) understand that the Green Hornet show was not like the very violent martial arts movies that he was making in Hong Kong. The show had to keep the violence to a minimum. Because of the censors.
      So LeBell showed up on the Green Hornet set and he grabbed Lee. Lifting him up from the ground. Bruce Lee was furious and demanded to be let go. But LeBell said "No, if I were to do that, you'll kick me to death!". And he ran all over the set with Bruce struggling to free himself from the stunts man's embrace.
      LeBell then asked Bruce if he was ready to talk things over. And Lee, who couldn't free himself no matter how hard he tried, answered that he had enough.
      Once freed, Lee wasn't upset or angry at all. Instead, he was amazed how easily LeBell had been able to subdue him. And he begged LeBell to show him the grappling move.
      LeBell went on to train Lee with how to perform grappling & arm locks and other wrestling moves. While Lee trained him on performing kicks.
      It was because of that experience, that Bruce Lee went on to develop his own martial arts style: jeet kune do. Which adopted fighting moves from several fighting styles.
      Anyway, Bruce Lee and LeBell became good friends. And that is why Gene wanted to set the record straight for posterity. Since Tarantino was going around doing interviews where he was claiming that his Hollywood version had been approved by LeBell. Which was false.
      When confronted with Gene LeBell's story, Tarantino doubled down and refused to admit that he had lied about the incident.
      Its a shame because I used to be a fan of Tarantino. But he seems to have a hate boner for Bruce Lee for whatever reason.
      BTW, Bruce Lee went on to perform some of LeBell's moves (a chokehold) when he fought Chuck Norris in the movie "Way of the Dragon".

      However, the real Bruce Lee WORSHIPPED Muhammad Ali. He would never miss his fights and spoke highly of him in his autobiography. He would never make such a ludicrous claim, especially not in the way that Tarantino wrote him
