  • The factory Audi Bose system just wasn't something I was loving anymore so back in 2018 (or so) I did a full Bose-ectomy and removed the stock components. Rather than hacking into the factory harnesses, I opted to run all new connections in parallel so I could remove everything and go back to factory original at any time. My original Bose system still worked fine but I wanted some newer technology.
In this video, I'm swapping out the previous Kenwood head-unit for one from Alpine. The Kenwood was a very cheap refurbished unit purchased on eBay years ago for use in my 1995 S6 Avant at the time.
Components used in the video for hook-up to antennas etc.
    1. ISO to DIN antenna adapter - amzn.to/3VWbfey
    2. Antenna Y splitter - amzn.to/3LZhRUL
    3. Amplified antenna adapter - amzn.to/3I2RNH2
    4. In line wire connectors - amzn.to/3O4Ll6l
    Other things I mentioned:
    1. VDO Continental CD7416UB-OR European Style 12v Radio Orange Display Bluetooth & CD Player (no pre-outs) - amzn.to/3M6pgls
    2. Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB 200101800000 (no pre-outs) - amzn.to/42KYIgJ
    3. Alpine 172BT - www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...
The Bluetooth head-unit modification is being developed by Steve Kujala. As of May 12, 2023 I don't believe he's officially offering the conversion service for others yet but follow his page Kuji Speed here for eventual details.

I ended up using an Audi Concert and an adapter wired through the console for the iPhone. Close to factory look with phone connected for music… it works but it’s far from modern by todays standards. Left the Bose and wiring intact because it seemed like a whole lot more work and expense than I wanted to manage.

Great video! We have a 95.5 S6 and replaced the entire audio system with a double din Alpine unit with Carplay. Our radio reception is horrible and I thought it was maybe just the unit (and my son whose car it is doesn't really care), but possibly the antenna is powered and I didn't realize that. I remember there only being 1 antenna connection on the car. Do you know if the antenna on a 95.5 is powered and should be using the power adapter you showed in the video?

Yes, you should have powered antenna amps in the S6 as well. You can see more about them and their locations here: forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/threads/21308.phtml
Since I did't want to touch any of the factory wiring, I used the antenna amp I showed in the video.

I also gave serious consideration to installing a CarPlay head unit as well and moving the climate control head down to the ashtray location. Then I looked at some of the single DIN CarPlay options that fold out (seems like that would break quickly) or the cool Porsche single DIN setup with small screen. The latter costs more than my car is worth so I opted to keep it simple for now. I plan to daily drive the D2 S8 and have CarPlay in that so I kept it simple in this one.
