Don’t feel bad if you want to quit while running! I come from a family of runners, I love to run half marathons with my dad, and when I’m 16 I want to run a full. My mom loves to run full marathons and has dreamt to run the Boston Marathon. It took her three years to qualify, starting off amateur with 5K. After going through overtraining, not safe coaches, mental breakdowns on runs and races, even dropping out of races she was trying to qualify for, she qualified. After that, I learned it’s ok to have breakdowns, because that is what pushes you to move forward. I hope you read this! Thx!
One thing that always keeps me running is to remind myself that all pain is temporary. It makes me feel strong even if I'm hurting because I know that in however much time it takes, I won't feel the pain anymore.
I like the feeling afterwards. It feels a bit like an orgasm but much stronger. It sounds funny. But that's how it is. And sometimes while you're running you feel like you could run forever and you feel strong and happy. But unfortunately this didn't happen to me for a very long time.
I ran my very first half-marathon today, after being a couch potato 5 months ago. This is the first video I went to, and it brought tears again. I've never had so much emotion come over me all at once, I absolutely bawled when I met my husband at the finish line. What an inspiration you are ❤
I honestly believe anyone can do a marathon. I’m so proud of Michelle for completing one and even doing so with an amazing race time (3 hours is really fast). I’ve completed 7 LA Marathons by jogging and fast walking and I am a REALLY slow runner. My PR is 6 hours. It really depends on your mindset since “average” people tend to finish around 5-7 hours. Some just speed walk the whole thing and hit 7 hours. So if you’re considering doing the marathon but think it’s too difficult, it’s not. The race itself is painful if you’re not used to that type of pain but it is possible. The feeling you get when you finish the race is what pushes me to participate every year. 🙌🏼
Congratulations to you 'simplmaci' but "PURISTS' would congratulate Michelle for running the marathon not walking/running as a lot of 'marathon' joggers do it. Personally I would not dream of ever running a marathon, however, if i did do it I would prefer to run the whole distance in 4 hours at the most.
That PR or personal best of 6 hours is OK for a normal runner, I am training to run all the way a 5k race, I have already done it by walking/jogging in 41 minutes, but to qualify I must RUN it all the way, OK if I run/jog slowly I might do in in about 38 minutes. Your time of 6 hours for that marathon corresponds to 42m 43seconds for a 5k, or 3 hours for a half marathon, on average as you say for anyone doing a full distance marathon I have no intention of running a half or full marathon but MIGHT consider doing a 10k IF I get through this 5k training program
Just don't try following this plan. It's ridiculous and only works for her because she was already a professional athlete going in. Pretty irresponsible video not stating that.
Everyone who is saying why is she crying.... i GET why shes crying and im no nowhere near fit (18 min a mile), but when you push yourself to do something that your mind and body might be telling you otherwise, its hard but so rewarding. Try loosing 30 lbs or try having at least a personal training 3 days a week for a month. You only get a small taste of what shes having. So i APPLAUD her. Challenging your own self is hard cause you are your own supporter and critic at the same time.
fyrick24 Why the hell would it be a woman thing? It's just emotionally stressful and exhausting--especially if you're doing it for this long. It's a mental stress such as much as a physical one. Normally, you'd just avoid the problem and take take a moment but she had to do this for ten weeks straight without pause. Factor in all the exhaustion...
It seems she is already super athletic before this, just not into running. Her stats could qualify for Boston Marathon while some had to train longer. Good for her.
@@ipromisethatserendipityisa9656 Some tell she was a professional road cyclist. Besides all built aerobic capacity, it's still very impressive: many cyclists can't run due to knee pain at even 5k distance.
for all the people who are asking why she is crying...she just ran a FREAKING MARATHON!! her body and mind is EXHAUSTED and she is proud. in ten weeks she ran a marathon y'all would be crying too
Also combine that with the realization that she just completed what so little people have the mental and physical control to accomplish, I’d be so proud and pained and confused and in shock I’d start sobbing. She’s a human, it’s completely normal to cry when you feel that much emotion.
Her saying that she finnaly realized why she was doing the marathon after people asked her why is she even doing it, messed me up.... "I am doing this race for me" I love it.
This video is extremely misleading. FYI She's a lifelong athlete. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go out and think that you can run 5 miles, let alone 45 in a week like she did if you don't have a high base level of fitness. You will get injured. Badly.
Yes she is an athlete but plenty of people without training have run a marathon. Is it the best decision? No, training makes it safer and better but people have done it
@@Scurvywormstudios Unless you have good fitness there's zero chance the average person (even above average person) could even walk 26.2 miles let alone run it. The people that do a marathon with zero training are usually already in ok shape and sometimes in phenomenal shape. Just because they didn't specifically train for endurance running doesn't mean that a lot of their prior training can't carry over. Most of the people in my small work group couldn't even run for a solid mile until they trained for few weeks. These weren't overweight people either, but they were pretty average levels of fitness. After 6 months or so they could easily do 10k races and probably at that point some of them may have been able to do a marathon on a whim. Even then that's unlikely.
As some who sucks at running, i can tell you without a doubt us beginners physically can’t run 5 miles without mainly walking, while we could injure ourselves we definitely aren’t signing up for a marathon lol, the only reason i could see for needing a disclaimer about her being an athlete is to not give people unrealistic expectations and the risk of overworking yourself.
I've ran many marathons. And there is an adrenaline rush that you get. You feel like your flying running in the morning. Just the experience and everything about it is so great. I'm telling you, I was a fat little couch potato for so long, I thought I'd never run a 5k. But here I am. You can do it too.
I've ran a 5k too! During it you feel tired and worn out but the people cheering you on make you go faster and faster. The feeling afterwards is so great
It's ok friend. You're in your own journey. Don't ever compare yourself to others, you need to simply complete against yourself. In other words: this week your goal is to run a mile in under 10. Next week your goal is to run a mile in under 9 mins 55 seconds. Or to run 1 and a half miles and don't time yourself, just try to go further. Competing against other people before you've even gotten started is a great way to feel defeated and give up. You got this Try to enjoy it.
i’m crying so hard like now. like the moment when she passes that goal line is just so fucking emotional and i deeply want to feel like that one day, too. has to be incredible.
KawaiiKitty Drawings I'm gunna have to agree seeing Michelle pass the finish line I actually cried it was a happy moment for her but I was so happy she didn't give up!!
R.P.F. Purple she must have done running in the past or at school. She ran 5 miles on the first day including sprints. There is no way you can do that if you haven’t run quite a lot before. This was also reflected in her half marathon time. Most people start 1-2 miles and just build up.
I love her trainer! Such a great coach. She is doing sooooo amazingly! I cried too when she crossed the finish line. Really inspirational. Going to do this.
Her running stride is short and fast. I’m a very heavy and muscular and had to change my stride because I used to get shin splints all the time. Got a running coach and I was striding way too long causing more impact. I switched to “hamster wheel” strides and no more injuries.
@@motoknivesandgunsbyjt Halfway through my first marathon, I switched over to this style of running by default and it has helped so much. More of a hamster wheel shuffle. Less impact, less energy wasted.
This was really impressive - both in terms of the achievement and the clip covering it. The subject matter was interesting, but Michelle's raw and honest footage captured some powerful and obviously painful moments that made for a particularly captivating and emotional video.
She ran in the top 3% (631/18,892) of all runners and the top .8% (67/7962) of women. Clearly she either has elite level genetics OR she was doing some form of training before which she may not have realized was training her aerobic system.
@@jessslater3948 a pro? So I guess then most of the video was more acting than anything else. An average person can also not run a half marathon in 1:37 with just a few weeks of training XD
Sarp Bozkurt soo trueew I mean like she had to go through the pain during the training, even though she had a choice of quitting she didn't and concern of her bikes getting stolen 😢😢😢

I love this so much. Michelle is amazing. She did such an amazing job. I have loved her in every video that she's been in but this video made me cry because of how wonderful it was.
I did. Literally just started running less than two weeks ago after a very long break from running. Ran 8 of the last 10 days. Hoping to run a half marathon towards the end of the year and maybe a marathon next year.
Ayesha Gajrè I’m just confused why they weren’t inside her apartment, I’d never leave my bike locked outside overnight, I try to not leave it locked outside for longer then 10 minutes lol.
Ayesha Gajrè yeah but stealing a bike off the street is common, stealing it from within someone’s house is not as that is a whole extra laundry list of felonies. Also, I think she would have mentioned if her house was broken into (while she was sleeping!) IE. home invasion, and a lot more then just her bikes would have been stolen...
If you’re a cyclist, a bicycle to you is a prized possession. So much happiness, freedom, pain, and time is through that simple machine. It’s absolutely devastating.
She was a competitive cyclist. She's mentioned this before. She's not new to exercise. She literally competed in cycling events so it's no surprise she did well with running.
Her: "the best part of this challenge hands down is getting to eat a lot of food" Me: "OMG yes! cinnamon rolls, ice cream, bananas foster" Her: "chicken, rice, spaghetti squash" Me: :I

I watched this video about three months ago. I couldn’t run a mile without stopping every minute. It’s been about three months and I’ve ran about 10 5Ks, and was finally able to run 4 miles without stopping about a week ago. I’m rewatching this to hype me up for my run today, and aiming for 4.5 miles. Thank you for being an inspiration for so many beginners getting into fitness!!
@@anthonyhutchins2300 . The point is that she's not some rookie when she can run 7.5 average minute miles in a half marathon after only 5 weeks of training. The whole video is fake.
@@isabelleabt5827 .I mean that the concept of a rookie non runner doing a half marathon in 5 weeks then a marathon in another 5 weeks while running under 8 minute miles is a little ridiculous. She's not a rookie.
Yay for running!!! I’m 12 year old, and run a 5k race every weekend. I’m training for a 10k, soon a half marathon, and then, the final marathon. Running is great!
I am 11 and I like running, I just don't like after the run. Like running itself is fine but after I am so tired and I feel exhausted, but I still like it. I don't play any sports with a lot of running, but I do play softball, and all you have to do is run bases 😂
So many people saying it was pathetic for her to cry. You know, if you had done 20+ miles of running you'd be in pain. A LOT of pain. I've never ran a marathon but I have ran very long distances and it hurts like hell. Your chest hurts, your stomach hurts, you throat hurt, everything hurts. And she was very proud of herself so maybe that's also why she cried.
ItsKatrina X yes I totally agree. As I runner every time I finish a race I cry whether it's out of pain (because yes it hurts like hell) or whether it's out of happiness
Lauren Way me too, I end up crying after all most if not every, race I finish because I'm either in so much pain or just happy to finish it and get it over with 😂
I can understand why she would cry because she is proud, but hopefully she would be able to do a longer training thing before. I was able to have a solid 4 month training time. If she did more long runs to prepare, i think she would've felt better. But that's just my two cents. Her finish was awesome though
ItsKatrina X I've run cross country for 4 years and still, at the end of every meet, I can taste blood in the back of my throat when I swallow. Running distance is pushing every aspect of your body to its limit.
I'm 100% sure that that person was already an athlete. You don't go from running 0 miles to running 40+ miles a week without being an athlete. This seems like bs. Also it's still pretty much a miracle they didn't get injured.
I know those finish line feels. I did a half marathon at Disney World, and crossing that finish line was the most rewarding thing ever. I had the ugliest tears running down my face, but I was so proud of myself.

Thx!
@SrtaMelzinha Men between the ages of 18-34 need to run a sub- 3:05 marathon, while women in that age group have to run sub-3:35.
You wrote a nice message.
One thing that always keeps me running is to remind myself that all pain is temporary. It makes me feel strong even if I'm hurting because I know that in however much time it takes, I won't feel the pain anymore.
Amen brother
That's a nice thought. Not true for a lot of people though, because of chronic pain conditions
all pain is not temporary, you will find out the hard way down the road lol
Me as a cross country and track runner: running sucks I don’t know why people purposely bring pain to themselves

I like the feeling afterwards. It feels a bit like an orgasm but much stronger. It sounds funny. But that's how it is. And sometimes while you're running you feel like you could run forever and you feel strong and happy. But unfortunately this didn't happen to me for a very long time.

simplymaci I
Congratulations to you 'simplmaci' but "PURISTS' would congratulate Michelle for running the marathon not walking/running as a lot of 'marathon' joggers do it. Personally I would not dream of ever running a marathon, however, if i did do it I would prefer to run the whole distance in 4 hours at the most.
Except me lol
That PR or personal best of 6 hours is OK for a normal runner, I am training to run all the way a 5k race, I have already done it by walking/jogging in 41 minutes, but to qualify I must RUN it all the way, OK if I run/jog slowly I might do in in about 38 minutes. Your time of 6 hours for that marathon corresponds to 42m 43seconds for a 5k, or 3 hours for a half marathon, on average as you say for anyone doing a full distance marathon
I have no intention of running a half or full marathon but MIGHT consider doing a 10k IF I get through this 5k training program
Paraplegics cannot do a marathon.
I'm a runner who has been running for 5 years and I know that pain she is in. I have huge respect for her doing that in 10 weeks

This video is extremely misleading. FYI She's a lifelong athlete. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go out and think that you can run 5 miles, let alone 45 in a week like she did if you don't have a high base level of fitness. You will get injured. Badly.
EXACTLY

Me too 😭
im down to 12:45 from the 16:40 it takes me to walk a mile. good luck buddy
You got this
Try to enjoy it.
