      I understand that this video is 3 years old, so the chance of our seeing this is slim... From the video, I understand that you also broke the d-stem that attached to the actual timer mechanism, and you bought a new one... I was considering tampering with the current one I have to see if I can replace the stem with something else, since GE doesn't sell just replacement stems, and I don't really want to have to get a whole new timer. 🤔 Did you consider that at all? Can't find much research about it so I thought I'd ask. I have the same dryer.

    • @randomreviewsAR
      @randomreviewsAR  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@incendi4ry I remember trying to fiddle with the timer and the D slot stem was embedded in the timer with no way to replace just that piece from my understanding. That's why I ended up buying a new timer.

    O MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! I haven't used my dryer in 2.5 years bc I didn't want to pay $80 for a diagnostic fee from a repair company. I just watched your video, and switched the knobs - bc my old one was cracked like yours was cracked. It worked!!!!!! O MY GOODNESS!!!!!!! 2.5 years of hanging my clothes to dry.... over in 10 seconds. Deliverance!!!! The reason I started watching you-tubers, again, to attempt to fix it is bc I just did Spring Cleaning, and didn't want to continue hanging wet clothes in my bedroom to dry- making the mold / dust build back up, again. I watched another you-tuber, two years ago, but it was too technical / complex. It helped that you mentioned that Hotpoint is GE. I didn't know that when I saw another video about GE Dryers. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
    Actually, my electric bill has been lower (maybe from not using the dryer,) so I only plan to dry my heavy laundry. I may still use the door rack for drying socks, etc. Thanks, again! I love the sound of that humming...

    Thank you so much! This was a big help! We got the hotpoint washer/dryer set for free from some friends, but it didn't have a timer knob when we got it. They said to use vice grips to turn it. Before we were able to get a new knob, the timer shaft broke off. I ordered the new timer unit and knob and replaced them in August. It just broke again. I thought that the shaft may be broken again and was unsure whether or not to order the timer unit (55 bucks). I just tried the knob trick and it turned! Now I know to just order the new knob with the metal reinforcement ring. Just in time as my in-laws are visiting this next week for the holidays. Thank you again so much!

    Oh my goodness! I am so glad I came across this video. So, the knob came off of my HOTPOINT dryer. So, we started using a wrench to turn the timer on the piece that sticks out that I think you are calling a D hook/joint. Now the rubber has broken off so it won't turn with the wrench anymore. So, where do you get the center piece, what's the right name for it and how do you replace it? Does it just screw on the metal piece? I hope you are still reading/ replying to these comments because you have given me hope that I don't have to call a repairman. Thank you!

    • @randomreviewsAR
      @randomreviewsAR  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of thanks for watching! The stem piece that sticks out is attached to the timer. You can look on eBay for "Hotpoint Dryer Timer" and find the one that matches your part number, it to to a local appliance repair shop and see if they have one in stock. That stem is embedded in the timer unfortunately so the whole unit has to be replaced. You would screw off the top panel at the back of the dryer and the timer is attached to that. Then you'd unplug the cables, twist out the old timer, insert the new timer, plug the cables back in and reconnect the back panel. Take a picture or video before/while you disconnect the timer so that you know how the new one goes back in. That's what I did to replace it and it's still working till today. Hopefully that helps and let me know if you have any questions!!

Thanks so much for being so helpful!

    Just a heads up on these.....the D-shaft is so tight on most of these timers, the knob fails. New knob? The D-shaft strips. New timer and knob? 50/50 crap shoot. These are infuriating. Bring back the metal D-shaft!

    Sir i have a question. i have the exact same dryer as you, and the d shaped plastic piece behind the knob has broken on me. where did you get your replacement pieces from if you dont mind my asking?

    • @randomreviewsAR
      @randomreviewsAR  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I purchased a new timer from eBay. The plastic shaft on mine broke as well so I had to replace the entire timer. It cost me like $60 from eBay. Let me know if you have anymore questions and thanks for watching!

      @@randomreviewsAR so mine is same way same dryer that piece broke off so the knob wont fit so what am i ordering from eBay and is it easy to assemble yourself

    • @randomreviewsAR
      @randomreviewsAR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nickisuchafckndiva take note of how you take the old timer off because the new timer will get put on in the exact reverse order, contacts and all. It wasn't hard to do, just screw out the top back part of the dryer (3-4 screws I believe) and it will open up the part where the timer is. Bee careful when unplugging the contacts so they don't break. Other than that it's matter of removing and replacing.

      @@Nickisuchafckndiva regarding the knob not fitting, if you purchase the right timer then the knob from the other dial should fit it.

      @randomreviewsAR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nickisuchafckndiva sorry, just saw that you asked about what to order. If you remove the old part you'll see the part number. Enter it in the eBay search box to find what you need. Below are a few links for you to try with the part needed:

    I have the same dryer and this just happened to us as well. My friends have been living in our house and ordered another knob and it worked but the second time i used it...it popped off and I can't get it to fit back on. I think something is wrong with the actual rigging ...which is why i'm commenting. What did you replace on your dryer before you used the knob from the cycle?

    • @randomreviewsAR
      @randomreviewsAR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I replaced the timer since the shaft that the knob hangs on broke off. I got the timer of eBay for like $60 or so. Let me see if I can find the link.
