  • This week I fix a faulty timer on a GE electric dryer. Make sure the plastic on the back of the knob isn't broken before replacing the timer. You may just need a new knob.

Thanks for the video! It’s confusing how critical people are being - you clearly state to turn off the power source and unplug the dryer before beginning any work. And although the angle while you were working didn’t show you unplugging every wire, you did say to take a picture so you knew which wires to unplug and how to plug them back in. It would be nice to have the part number, but as long as these people have their machine’s model number they can find the replacement part just fine! Took me less than a minute. Thanks again for your video!

Thanks! I have the same dryer model, I think. The one thing I had to do differently is that I had to unscrew and remove the entire upper control housing to get at the screw holding the timer module in place. Also, the screw is a T10 six-point star type screw.

Is the $150 bucks a ShoeDoc reference?...good tutorial..I'm about to order the part too. Really appreciate it when people post easy to follow videos of miscellaneous repairs .

I’ve learned from experiencing the same “free spin” that the main knob might have a crack in it. Any crack whatsoever will allow enough slack for the knob to spin freely. Check this before you go through the hassle of replacing the entire timer assembly, which I’m having to do after 4 years of ownership.

11:46am. Hey, just watched your video and it was a great help. One question. Does a new front knob come with the timer switch. Ours spins because there is a crack in the front knob. It still turns really tight though.

Do the numbers on the back of the old & replacement timer need to match?

Was this causing the light inside to not come on as well? I’m having trouble with a brand new one I’m installing for a customer and it does absolutely nothing not even the light inside so may even just be a bad door switch

How do you reset the time to line up correctly? Notice it was on OFF but it was still running. Mine is doing that and will not turn off unless I open the door. There’s no way of me knowing how long it has left.

Well your video was kinda helpful. No part number, which someone like me needs, and you never show your actual taking out the timer or putting it in. Just you darn head. Sadly

Due to the fact that you failed to unplug the dryer from the beginning you really should take this video down and replace it with a safer video. While you are at it when you film the actual removal of the timer it would be nice to see what you are working on with your fingers instead of your your back.
Unplugging the Appliance is of Paramount Importance Above all else.

I unplugged the dryer. I mentioned to unplug it at 2:42 in the video.
