You can see through jiddu Krishnamurthy quotes observation of self and also from Socrates quote unexamined life is not worth of living.
A simple excersize: Think of your hand... now remove any idea or concept you have about it, any history, ideas that it's yours or its even a hand. With the meaning removed, how do you know it's your hand without the meaning youve just taken away from it? It's a thought that confirms what it is. So your hand is a thought.
Apply this to everything and you may realise you cannot use words to acknowledge what you truly are and how a spiritual journey of awakening is only pushing away your end goal of said enlightenment
I find that you are nearer to the point as to the way I also understand, another way of saying, remove the past and the future, you're left with nothing to say or talk about, if you try to say a word, it is the past, or the word comes from past experience, when you talk about the future you're projecting the past into the future and to see and experience that is a big step into reality by no one.
It's quite difficult but it is possible. Overtime, the loss of memory brings the psyche into a clean, unbothered state of mind.

i went to a Buddhist workshop/class type of thing once . as i was going about my business, i spontaneously went into an extreme state of mind or consciousness or whatever , which i would now call solipsism . it was really freaky . it lasted for a minute or two. i had lost all reference points for what was happening (the reference points we take for granted as we grow). i could not be sure of anything . it was like the whole structure of concepts and perhaps even knowledge just fell away. the state was on a completely different level to a playful philosophical perspective or position. i cant remember how it impacted the self or self-concept at that time though except that there was a state of panic through the experience.

Congratulations you apparently have experienced reality apart from concepts! In the Zen tradition this is called Satori. Please don’t label it or confine it to Western ideological notions like solipsism, which is a valid philosophical idea that has been reduced to a pejorative. The fact that you have had this experience indicates that you are on a path to enlightenment whether you are conscious of it or not.
considering it lasted for a minute or two i'd say it was a skip in the heart beat, a drop in blood pressure or blood sugar... the rest is the story your self (you) has created from your memories to explain the sensation of fear/panic etc

Now I get what he is conveying, that there is no way of experiencing, or knowing anything by yourself, since the "instrument " of experiencing or knowing is the mind which also depends on the past knowledge, defective knowledge, due to the fact that it was past on to you through other knowledge on and on backwardly to no end.
Therefore to see and experience truth as reality, you need to create, emptiness of the mind, but how when there's no instrument?
The only way is to give up, and just allow yourself to be.

When he said, " You are the illusion, not out there", is the real Wisdom. In Buddha's words, he said, monks feeling is not self and impermanent, perception also not self and also impermanent, body....Senses....Mind....Impermanent...Not self. Whatever is imparmenent is Painful. To see that with eye of wisdom is called right view. It is the way to know that all these impermenant. He call it eightfold path.
Vedanta spoke very straight, that you along with universe is illusion, Only that Brahman is real.
Remember, UG used word, "that", Buddha used the word,"tathagata", Upanishad used the word, "Tat". Both are on the same line.
Real truth is Sun above is shining, but ignorant look at the mirage, thinking the real Sun itself.
Mirage is our individuality, Sun is a True wisdom.
It's like when you look at the mirror, you will see but your face. But it's not actual, it's a mere reflection. If you cast aside the mirror, would you think that you died? Or else can broken mirror be called as living entity? If one died in dream, when awake from sleep will take this event a real one? If you see rope, would you fear then that it's a snake? Snake is individuality, rope is Wisdom.
When UG says, "There is no oasis situated yonder, you only stuck with a mirage". That statement is somewhat correct but not entirely, if you doesn't know whose mirage is it?
Those are under delusion will reborn. Those who face wisdom won't.
But to attain that wisdom, there is way of righteousness, detachment, compassion, meekness and faith.
Only love, Faith, pure mind, can know the Real behind the Mirage!
@@david.s.5336 i appreciate your view. Nothing that is born is permanent, life is just a momentary. But for being happy you have to experience it with right wisdom. What we try to search among the leaves and branches, it really appears in the root. They say, Brahman is the root, species are the branches & twigs and all in encompasses in the root. even though roots, branches, flowers etc. have their origin in the same seed, the task of absorbing water is done by only the roots and it is proper to give water at the roots alone and not to other parts of the tree, in the same fashion any worship and virtues done without knowing 'Him' is fruitless.

If you find this interesting, I would suggest reading Schopenhauer "The World as Will and Idea." The idea of subject/object transposition is covered in much greater detail.
You're correct. I know u.g read Kant when he studied western philosophy in college/university so surely he must of come across good old Schopenhauer, that's probably what pushed u.g over the edge haha.
Schopenhauer was among the first thinkers in Western philosophy to share and affirm significant tenets of Eastern philosophy (e.g., asceticism, the world-as-appearance), having initially arrived at similar conclusions as the result of his own philosophical work. He was deeply impressed by the Upanishads and called it "the production of the highest human wisdom".
IMHO, U.G is a bit different.
Schopenhauer himself says he got a great deal from the Vedas. UG is talking something totally different. Sorry.

@alexanderskye9013 Anything he says about math is usually wrong. Math are abstractions conjured by thought. While math might not be "there" as UG says. He's avoiding the overwhelming practical application of mathematics in an assortment of pysiological disiplines. Like I said earlier, anything psysiological is best left to non-psychologists. His theory only works if you're thinking about your 'self'. Just think about what math or pysiological phenomena is and see how UG's theories don't make sense if applied to these disciplines. I can't find the part he talks about touch but it's silly as is most of pyschology.

@alexanderskye9013 The self is the superimposed cultural identity developed in childhood. It's beside the point only to shine light on UGs philosophy does in make sense within the context of 'self' analysis.
Physiological phenomena like touch does not make sense within UG's framework.
