Shadowlands already killed it for so many people that the community can't even look at any expansion with optimism.
Or, like always, people are tribal and will hate Blizzard for good or for worse. I'll have to go with my answer, seeing as how most of the criticisms are about Shadowlands being bad, not about anything with the new expansion.

I remember when Ion came to everyone, hat in hand, talking about all the lessons they learned while promoting Shadowlands. Don't pre-order, its an online game. There's no limited stock, don't reward shit companies before they even do anything, it's self-defeating and pointless.

Same here. Bought shadowlands and paid a year of sub thinking I would love this expansion. Quit at 4months in. Blizzard have been baiting for years with we’ll change the game for the better I need to see it before anything. Until then casually playing lost ark

It's hard being hyped for the new expansion when they made so many mistakes multiple times.
WoD was hype but died instantly.
Legion was hype, it took them until .3 to make it worth playing.
BFA was hype until it released.
Shadowlands was hype but they ruined it very quickly.
So yeah, we've seen this pattern enough times, so much so only fanboys will defend this bullshit, which perfectly sums up what Asmon is, not to mention an hypocrite, still giving money to Blizzard after saying if you don't like the game to stop supporting it, and he doesn't like the game. I think that fact is making lots of people mad at Asmon because of how he says one thing but does the opposite.
@@rRekko About Asmon you're simplifying an overly complicated situation, and representing it as black and white. No, it's got layers. You don't like the current state of the game and some minor things set u off but you still love the world as a whole, you always have been and its been a part of you for so long, and so on... he says the game is trash or whatever he says to grab attention and possibly this arrives at a developer's perspective and some change could happen. Which usually do take time.

For fantasy mmorpg wow is the most toxic community out there by a mile. I was in the relationship for 15 years and I kept going back over and over. Thankfully I was finally able to break the cycle and Havnt touched a blizz game in over a year. Been having fun with both final fantasy and eso and can’t wait to see the possibilities with AOC

Everyone has seen this before. Blizzard makes promises, they sound fine, and down the pipeline they either fuck it up or outright lied.
There's just no hope for the game now, and more people aren't getting tricked again.

I've been burnt by the "new expansion" hype enough times by this point, i'll sit this one out for a patch or two and then base my judgement off the feedback by that point. Can't blame people for being hesitant after we had such expansions like, Warlords of Draenor, Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands.
Like WOD...then bfa was supposed to be the "pvp" expansion and showcased a ton of new races..then you buy it and its just old reps to grind for new races and the pvp was just vrs npcs in raids.
Yeah blizz wont get any $ from me until they release the new patch and if its like a year after release then forgst it lol

The level boost is still there and I don't mind but removing the requirement for the death knight was removed as well. No Dungeon finder which was pretty much the only reason why you could do dungeons reliably and quest without having to worry about your group spamming you to get there to teleport you. I get the whole "classic was better duuhh no easy grouping" Fuck that mentality, I don't have time to spam for a group as an overplayed role to hope that we're gonna have enough tanks and healers to go through a dungeon.

For me it's more that, it's kind of nothing? a new race, a new class and unfucked talent trees which shouldnt be an expansion feature at this point cause it should have been done long ago. I just found the announcement lackluster as hell personally, which might not be a bad thing if you look at bfa but idk.

As an XIV player, I really hope Blizz gets their shit together and delivers a great game for you guys. More competition is always good and a good game is a good game, regardless of the dev or publisher involved

Dude, as an XIV player who once felt great about WoW, I *want* this expansion to be good. And, dude, *PLAYABLE DRAGONS* are something I have been asking for since _Wrath of the Lich King_ when they introduced the biped dragon enemies in Borean Tundra. I was like "why can't I play as one of those!?" and here we are. They're giving us _just_ that. here's hoping the rest of the expansion is worth playing and not another stinker like Shadowlands. Hopefully they're done with the big cosmic world-ending crap, and they give us some actual just normal fantasy. Rebuild the dragonflights, join one, etc. Sounds awesome.

Might as well do a poll of people who left the game back in WoD if they are excited for this expansion. Either way, the bias will be there and yield useless results.
@@bloodphoenixab I mean... I think the excitement of someone who actually likes WoW about a new expac coming out is probably a bit more valid than someone disliking the look of the new expansion who hates WoW and hasn't played in years. Both to Blizzard and just in general.
Just because we still play WoW in its current state doesn't mean we don't see the problems that WoW has been going through, and have hopes/worries about what the future of WoW will look like.
According to this there *is* no good group to poll because everyone will be biased, either you play and are biased towards the game or you quit and are biased against it. If that actually is your point and you think pre-emptive polls are pointless because we all have our minds made up anyways regardless of what's actually presented then fair enough, but I think that existing players would be less exciting to see the future of the game they actually play be a shitty product where nothing was learned from the failures of SL.

The problem with WOW is that it's 20 damn years old. They needed WOW 2.0 about 7 years ago, not new expansions.

If they had a new game with 60 level cap they would get both classic players and retail and appeal to new players.
the people that made WoW 1.0 and then 2.0 are long gone, only people from 3.0 aka Legion remain and theyve been doing an awful job for over 5 years, nobody at blizzard that made the game when it was good works there anymore, there is no old WoW, old WoW is dead and the people who made it are gone, it can never happen again

It looks to me what they wanna do with this expansion is just lay a new groundwork for new updates and further expansions. Story is kinda new,there is no big evil in sight yet and we might get introduced to some new powers in this expansion. They make the UI into something more modular and customizable that can have new stuff added each expansion. They change the way they look to professions and try to utilize it as a tool to increase the interaction between people. They are adding new functionality to professions and this tells me they are willing to add more and more stuff to it. They are coming back to old talent system,but much more detailed and flexible, and this is something that is much easier to add to or change without breaking the balance so much. The cinematic gives reconciliation vibes and radiant hope,and I can't help but think this is how devs feel about the game's future. They just finished a convoluted story arc that spans multiple expansions,and I think even tho they couldn't clear up all the mess,they tied up the ends as best as they could. They also had to deal with huge controversy and drama for months and now they are leaving those times behind. I say just give them a break,and wait for further announcements before having final opinions about the expansion.

Yes, the How to Train Your Dragon cinematic copy and pasted from blizzard shows they totally care about their fans and wants to make amends. Or perhaps is the copying and pasting the mount system from other games. The new race is ugly and lacks creativity(dragons are so overused its laughable, not brave LMAO) and I guarantee the balancing will probably be worst than ever due to a lot of the real talent leaving. Add it all up and wow cucks still line up to give blizzard $15 a month for second hand content.

Asmon is so high on hope for the new expansion which is understandable, but he’s sounds so deluded. Just look what they did with the last couple of expansions and especially shadowlands, same people making the new expansion with big ambitious stuff which they’ll inevitably trip over their own feet in the making.

He is playing supper cassualy so the expansion is just a pile of content that makes him money. So the expansion is great for him.

I don't know, it just feels like a more trend focused Asmon these days. His streams at one point just turned into gambling streams for a couple of weeks and even his reaction to his loses in them feel exaggerated.... especially when his first character of Lost Ark was using the money of his fans, so him losing slots meant absolutely nothing. He'd just go into his mailbox and redo it. There was literally no loss for him, so the reactions don't make sense.

I think the trailer was doomed to be 'anti-hyped' from the start. We're going to an island that we don't know, with the villian that we don't know for a purpose that we don't know.
There was no Lich King, Deathwing, Mamaorth, Burning Legion, Alliance Vs Horde full war or Shadowlands reveal.
I'm more interested about the content and any of this shit.
Trailer cinematic was just a stone guy waking up and walking around for 90% of the cinematic and 10% remainder was dragons flying... woo? zzz

I think is cool to dont know much, because now there is something to look, We always know a lot of thing before play and there is not mystery, is not necessary an ancient evil guy who will destroy the world to call our attention or an epic universal conflict or war, that will come with the evolucion of the patch and the history will evolve with that.
Now, the purpose is explore and find what is happening, it's not necesary show an evil guy to have a motivations. Because we will just think on that enemy and no in what is around us
Which I think is intentionally. This isn’t meant to be next big bad or next Great War, but to focus on the Dragons who have been struggling on the side lines. It didn’t seem like to was suppose to be based around a major villain or conflict, which after the part three expansions, is honestly kind of a nice change of pace.
I think the cinematic would've showcased any content if they had content to show. The fact that they just did an emotional grab with a predictable rescue and a lame voiceover just screams "NO CONTENT" to me.
Came home yesterday and my brother was shouting “WOW IS SAVED” proceeds to show me the livestream.
And through the whole livestream, I kept saying “I’m not convinced” he asked me why and I said “these people spat in our face for over a decade and suddenly when their doing their job I should forgive and forget?”.
I’m not saying the changes are bad, all I’m saying is if you get fucked for over a decade, you certainly have trust issues that won’t resolve with the same old “oh look what we made, changes, listening to players, bla bla bla” bullshit they always do.

The whole things looks boring. The new race looks pretty bad aesthetically. Changing the talent tree back to what everyone asked for 10 years ago isn't progression. Adding new animations to flying is something that should have been done in a patch years ago ad well. Plus now we will have some mounts with all sorts of cool flying animations amd others that still fly like a wooden block sliding around in 3 dimensions.
I really want to love wow again. I played it from original release day until may of last year without missing a beat. This new announcement looks like a whole lot of nothing though.

I thought that trailer was the least interesting one they ever made. Nothing about it made me hyped for the expansion except for dragons. And it's different from the first WoW trailer, as what was hype about it was playing in this great world full of mystery in a beloved franchise. Many of the WoW trailers had that, and Dragonflight's doesn't.

I disagree, while they don’t directly show mystery, what it shows is very limited just like the viewer’s understanding - the zones are even described as leaning heavily towards player exploration, which to me seems like there must be something to uncover - just my thoughts

I was watching Platinum WoW's live video of the expansion. He mentioned that the Dragonflight cinematic was a like the Overwatch Mei trailer and even played the part that was similar. I gotta agree, it did follow the story beats without the same amount of build up cause its stone dudes sleeping instead of an team in a cryro sleep.
Finally, someone finally said it. I've been waiting for someone else to notice. It felt like knock-off Mei story as I watched it.

Like, when the drama about Alex Afrasiabi came out and how they listed all his narrative plot points; I thought all of them were cool or worth exploring. But to see the writers having bitter resentment to not even do better but abandon ship for something they want just makes me feel like I'm no longer the target audience. I thought Shadowlands conceptually was cool and resubbed (Stop playing after Wrath), Dragonflight? I feel like they are heavily catering towards furries and creatively bankrupt.

Of course they put younger unknown faces into the video, they want to project that idea, it's like putting trans people front and centre in things to be all 'look at us, we're doing the thing that's popular on Twitter!' The truth to it, I can't say but I'm extremely doubtful that the WoW team is suddenly fresh faced ready to give it their all for the greatest WoW expansion of all time, it's extremely unlikely. There's still plenty on the team that's been there for the last several expansions.

The fresh faces in the video are purely what they want to be seen, the team is huge and there will be those left over from several expansions past as I said. The new race is recycled copy pasted models with edits on them that look like they're from a modded roleplay private server for furries. You are literally paying $60 for Blizzard to give you blood elves and humans with horns and a worgen rigged skinny dragon. Remember when Blizz actually bothered to make custom races with their own sets of animations and skeletal rigs?

God, yes! I remember when the allied races from Legion were available for BfA prepurchase and the first thing I complained about was recycled animations (I remember the nightborne female dances like a night elf and jumps like a worgen). Everyone told me that it would change when the expac releases, that it was just placeholder animations. BfA drops, nothing changed. Allied races are just reskins and redos (vulpera are goblin furries, change my mind). And now a new race in general is a re-skinned rig. They don't feel unique, and it obviously rustles me up.

Totally reasonable given Blizzard's track record. What they say always sounds good but that doesnt stop bullshit from being bullshit. I get none of this matters to asmon because as he himself has said "you cant reason slmeone out of a position they didnt reason themselves into" but its gonna be sad to watch if this is the same old story all over again.
I really hope that one of the storylines for Dragonflight has more to do with Nozdormu going insane like we know he does at the end of the End of Time dungeon. Because if the focus of the expansion is strengthening and uniting the dragonflights, maybe it's time to recognize the lesser flights? Not to mention the fact their purpose was to protect Azeroth from the Old Gods and we killed some of them, but also took away their Aspecthood, which leaves us open to the Void? The Jailer kinda essentially said that's what was coming. It's the only thing I can think of that would make Sargeras scared

Maybe this expansion will be good, maybe. But what's to stop them from fucking it up in the next expansion after that? Like from legion to BFA. At a certain point, you've just got to leave WoW alone.

It looks like they are moving back to a time where the game was generally good. You had your talent tree, new zone, raid, dungeons and tier sets. They are even stealing mechanics from other mmo's again like they did way back when.

This cinematic is by far the worst i've seen in any wow, soulless, boring, lacking of meaning or impactful moments and feels far cheaper than the previous ones. BFA and Shadowlands cinematics at least had impactful cinematics, this one was just "how to tame a dragon" wow edition and some stone dudes that do nothing.

Let's just be real here...nothing about the cinematic, or the "deep dive" shows any trajectory in any direction. It could all turn out great, or shit. But I'm not surprised that the general sentiment is on the pessimistic side, because Blizzard worked really hard for years to turn even the most optimistic people skeptical.

I hate WoW currently and I had no expectations for BfA and Shadowlands from their reveals, but I genuinely think this was a well done reveal
I will treat it like every expansion since Cata. If it sucks I'll play it for a couple weeks/months and never touch it again. If it's decent I'll play it more. I'm still concerned about endgame missing the mark for midcore players but the talent trees and crafting has me marginally optimistic.

The things that were actually improvements are the auction and crafting and hopefully dragonflight. Dragonflight everywhere after beating the expansion would be good. A non-world ending plot is fine. Make improvements like that constantly and the game will be good.

The way they talked, it sounded like flight is something that is baked into the whole expansion, where you get a customizable mount, and it grows with you as you get stuff for it and I love the concept of a mount that we actually care about instead of the flavor of the month.

Its just a game at the end of the day, if the content at a given time is not entertaining, there are quite literally hundreds/thousands of other games out there to play in the mean time, whilst being cautiously optimistic for the future that the game will provide content that might be interesting.

Personally I think this is as much as anyone could have hoped for. A going back to fundamentals. Nothing too flashy, something that's achievable for them (instead of promising the world and failing over and over again). Honestly the idea of getting back actual hybrid tree building is the first time in years that I want to try an expansion again ( I have been logging in to each expansion but it has become to cookie cutter) Honestly losing the trees and my hybrid druid really started the ball rolling downhill. They are acknowledging that professions need to be important again which is promising the system for drafting orders means no need to risk trolls taking your stuff and running in a trade and the fact that it will allow soulbound gear to be crafted for others was needed a long time ago. We won't know until beta etc. starts but the deep dive did show some hope. I liked how they mentioned what we a lot of us have thought, that every expansion means completely abandoning all we did prior and has no effect on the new content, they didn't really go into how they plan to carry content forward but I would love to see that, building legendary gear etc. to have it wipe completely I would have loved to see those personal things just upgrade with the new expansion and carry into the new content. It's too early to get upset or excited, beta will come out and we will see more info.
The deep dive which actually talked about the mechanics sounds interesting. The cinematic was to me very meh. I think the issue is blizzard destroyed any good faith players had after two failed expacs and we won't see anything new for at least a year.
Until we have new playable good games in our hands delivered to us blizzard will be crapped on.
I personally don't care about rehashed classic shit or mobile games. Of blizzards titles for the next year none are something that I will play alot of.

I think cata failed because so much was changed too quickly in an extreme way. Difficulty was accelerated too much too quickly. Hence why stuff was nerfed 30 percent in the first month.
I like to say wrath gave us super powers and a Gundam and the biggest challenge was to step over a pebble.
Cata stripped us but naked told us to climb mount everest in a storm with our bear hands all in a few hrs or it be shot in the head brought back to life repeatedly only to be shot infinitely.

I am tired of this. Blizzard messed things up so badly that the negativity is spreading to other games that do not deserve it. A few years ago devs at SE were a team with players and now they get death threats for a mistake like the housing result; that is about to get fix less than 1 week of discovering the error. So much hate and anger is being carried with people when they leave WoW it is discussing. I can see where it comes from, people hating on the WoW expac even before giving it a try and the same thought process is coming with them as if every little mistake is "game breaking and a total failure." People have a right to complain and be upset but the devs do not deserve death threats or harassing e-mails just for a coding mistake. This is why I gave up drinking, why spend my money on something that makes me unhappy at the end of the day and the true cost is my mental and physical health and makes me a worse person. How is hating on a expac before trying it out helpful? I have not tried WoW but I want to but I do not need all this hate and anger in my life, too bad the game looked fun.

And as great as the trailer was things like "The world is healing" hints unfortunately already that they may toss aside the giant sword in silithus and push Azeroth completely to the side this expansion to focus on the dragons. Despite being one of the main focuses for the last two.
Not until the game has a release build on the beta and we have a solid consensus among all the testers and youtubers the game is actually ready unlike Shadowlands would I personally consider buying it. At the end of the day though I do hate the fact that if this expansion sucks will very likely never touch WOW again but Shadowlands made it easy to reach that point.
Hopefully Blizzard does this expansion justice. The game needs it.

It would be nice to have a less ultra masculine option rather than just having to play female characters if you want a more slender aesthetic-- void elves/blood elves barely count as a counterpoint because their options are all mostly macho as well.

I think the main reason why people are unhappy is because that new expansion announcement didn't really announce anything new. Maybe people expected more radical changes, like for example remove of wow token and pay to win, remove of boosts, bots, remove of cash shop mounts to make mounts actually worth something again.... etc... Make the game worth to play instead of just putting new content into the same broken system.

It just seems so surface level in it's "listening to fans" they mention that players don't like Borrowed power systems, but our only indication that they're doing something about it is that they're revamping the talents again. Not that there won't be poorly done borrowed power this time.
Instead of actually giving us flying from the start, we have a more limited flying system involving a progression system.
If you're paying attention, you can see just how Blizzard is trying to manipulate us into getting hyped while not changing anything.
The backlash, I think, is just confirmation that we're not going to fall for this until people actually get their hands on the expansion.

Yep, the "flying" is just gonna be like in gw2 where it's stamina based and more like gliding than actual flight so it's gonna be hella limiting 100%. Though if it's a progression system eventually I can seem them just giving you infinite stamina
honestly we may end up getting into the sword after all. I mean, they clearly mentioned in the cinematic trailer that the dragonflights want to work on restoring the world. so probably at some point getting rid of that sword would be a goal because a big ol sword in the planets 'belly' is probably something that needs to be dealt with.
If you look at it, it's really not that deep in if you factor in the planet size

Dev time used on race/class only 10% will use,
Dev time on custom dragon mount, 5% will use
Dev time on dragonflies to be replaced with flying in 10.1
No dyes, no house, no 40 man raid, no causal content, no max ilvl challenges, no new pvp mode, no horizontal system, no challenging single player content...
So glad dev time is getting wasted
For me at least, the problem with Dragonflight is that it's more of the same, with nothing to truly shine by itself:
- Talent revamp, UI, profession "overhaul" (These should have been made YEARS ago, and the professions haven't even been touched that much by what we saw)
- Mounts with customization! Deep flying mechanics! (*FF XIV and GW2 waving in the distance since more than 8 years ago*)
- The Dragon Isles! (New zone. Great. Aside from the aesthetics it's just another continent. Why are we even there in the first place exactly??)
- New Race and class! (While interesting to have a class that only a certain race can play, the Demon Hun- I mean Drachnyer has a really weird design compared to what people expected for playable actual dragons)
- Absolutely nothing announced for outdoor content outside of Raids and Dungeons, which has been the bane of the game since WoD
- No form of housing. It's 2022 Blizzard, and you need to fix the professions. Maybe you could make use of that??? Like any other MMO right now on the market?????
But the most important thing is like, as always, Blizzard keeps pretending everthing is okay and won't say a word about what the fuck is happening inside:
- No comments on the terrible systems that have plagued the game aside from "W3 H34r yOuR F3eDbAcK"
- No comments on the abolute disaster that has been the introduction of the Jailer and his forced inclusion in EVERYTHING
- No comments on the allegations of sexual abusde (BUT HEY, WE PUT A TRANS DEVELOPER WITH A LGBT SHIRT, THE ONLY ONE WEARING THAT, IN FRONT OF A CAMERA, AND WE HAD LOTS OF WOMAN TALK, AREN'T WE PROGRESSIVE FELLOW GAMERS???)
Blizzard has to prove itself if thay want me back, and they don't have anything as of now.

The sword will be removed in the event that happens before launch of the expansions along with the plaguelands being cleansed, the blight being removed from Lordaeron etc.

I'm holding my breath until I see the class changes, particularly the evoker. This expansion for me will definitely depend on on how the class designers pull through with good talents and spec design. Please don't make every dps spec a simple builder / spender

I agree though, pressing 2 buttons to gain resource to use x ability is real fucking boring, which is why I quit ret in legion and have been having fun with survival since, you always have a button to press and it doesn't have to be the same rotation whatsoever for it to work.. I am speaking from a pvp point of view though, the psuedo ranged is fucking awsome
i hope they make the autoattack for meeles strong again, like classic/tbc for ret. it gives a different feeling for me

I really liked the cinematic. The expressiveness of the watcher without any words is wall-e level. Favorite part is the frame jump to the present and he’s got the moss. Then right before the dragon scoops him, as he’s falling he closes his eyes and accepts his fate then *bam* dragons

As he was falling I said to myself "yoink" and less than a second later the dragon just scoops him up.
Him getting smashed would have been more unexpected than the dramatic bungie jump.

The new race looks horrible both in and out of dragon form. It looks like some scuffed argonian in dragon form, and then like some Critical Role monstrosity in human form.
9:20 This argument is just as stupid as another reddit comment I saw, where someone said "They are just putting in these features to try to get more money out of us" as if that isn't the goal of every company ever, and exactly what they should have strived for from the beginning. A good game to make the most money possible. Well the Wrath Classic trailer being overall better than the new expansion's trailer sure doesn't help.
A vilain that we get to discover ourselves within the game through quests and dungeons and story telling in-game, feels more real and immersive than that happening in a cinematic.

What's funny to me about Dragonflight is, that I quit WoW in Cata and played a lot of GW2 since then. Now that the story about dragons in GW2 is finally over, WoW suddenly comes with a dragon expac.
Yep, I'm not going back to WoW for even MORE dragons for sure. especially since GW2 dragons are done very well, compared to WoW ingame dragons that feel like some random mob on the side of a road in GW2.
They even copy pastad the flying from GW2 ( looks exactly the same) with a probability that they will screw it up as we all know Blizz tends to do excactly that.
Well, I'm not saying they are doing a bad thing copying the GW2 mounts. It's a great system, that should honestly be in any MMO.
I really didn't see any of actual expansion features, I feel that is so little (objectively one race and one class) . The map is the same as always, maps per expansion. I hoped for a revamp of old world content (since cata nothing changed. There is a lot of things that they can improve) every fucking patch is a "listen to you and improve ". The trailer was weak. They ignore all the world around us Kalimdor , Undercity. No resolution for gilneas, undead or night elves. Nothing.
Pd: I was laughing at the leaks of the new dragon humanoids. I tell to my brother that is no fucking way they add a model as bad as that leak, then was real.

Revamping the old world with better grahpics and redone missions and storylines is probably the only thing that will make me reconsider. Leveling has been nothing but chore/grind for many years now. Any MMO should take pride in making the journey from level 1 to end game a joyful experience for all. As a fairly "casual" player that never really reach end game, the leveling journey in this game has presented itself to me as an oversight at best, and as a necessary evil at worst. When even the developers play on the fact that "the game" = max level end game, you know there is something fundamentally wrong.
@@kimmern999 They did that and everybody hated it in cata, why would they do something that people hated in the past? I really hope they just didnt reveal some actual cool new endgame feature like m+ or mage towers yet and are planning to do later. Maybe a special 8-10 man raid along side the normal mythic raid. Visions were a lot of fun at the start(pre socket grind!!!!!!!!!!!), that was also just the first iteration of visions and they could improve on it by a lot. But nah just a few more zones i will hate after the first time lvling a char and new dungeons+raid(hopefully dungeons will be more fun that sl because those were dogshit compared to bfa dungeon design).

I don't play WoW, but I'm always hyped for a Blizzard cinematic. But that one was so incredibly underwhelming to me, I was stunned. Definitely the least intriguing and exciting WoW trailer by far.
Yeah it looked nice but I didn't care if stone guy lived or died and the dragons acted like regular birds, not characters you care about.
