      I'm enjoying the filming and it's a good excuse to get out and use my stuff. there's some huge things planned for the channel going forward too 😉
      I dont do hype or Internet bs. Just real world testing and experiments we all might learn something cool from 😉

      Tilly, I've been out this morning with katran ,down the range shooting @ 25m, using 177 daystate sovereign getting great results, full magazine (18 pellets) I was grouping 5p coin groups, might be worth you giving them a go mate ?👍

    I use the mako slugs with my Brocock Bantam Sniper HR .177 for ratting, these slugs are amazing, yes expensive but made especially for sub 12ft ib rifles, i do not need to have holdover even out to 40yds. I had some comments on my ratting video about the fact that i was not changing my holdover for long distances, you just do not have to with these slugs, so impressive and you and this video also proves it, thank you for the video really enjoyed it.

    Interesting, I currently use an S510 R for 25 yard target competition, and it has been a learning curve, particularly with pellet selection, tried every pellet and believe it or not the lowly BSA Accupell is the smallest group, but I'd actually shot competition rounds as a part of the pellet selection, as I didn't have enough time to set up before it started. The result for the Round 1 was 168/200, which when you consider I'm averaging 198-199/200 at 50 metres rimfire has been a severe disappointment. After finding out that an old rusty tin of powdery Accupell had the best group, I've got up to 189-190/200 by Round 7, and decided to invest in a new tin, but made sure I shot all the old tin by the end of Round 9, because I am so far down the leader board its not worth wasting the new pellets to finish the Winter Competition. Round 10 with shiny new Accupell was a 197/200, so I'm going to continue with the S510 over the Summer, see how much more I can improve.
    I'm going to start shooting 10 metre and 6 yard this Summer, so am looking at an Air Arms MPR Precision for this. The Anschutz 9015 may be a purchase for 25 yard in 12 months time, then I can retire the S400 with Rowan Magazine from rabbit/pest control, and use the S510 for that instead.
    Interesting you started shooting the centre of the Zero in '20', and '15', I use an old Anschutz 1413 rimfire and use 10 metre sighters at 50 metres, and actually shoot the printed '6', '7', '8' figures for the rings at 25 yard targets to zero the rifle at 25 yards. Ok, occasionally an unsuspecting blue bottle lands on the target and gets vapourised instead if I'm zeroing.
    By the way, I'm dreading us being forced to use lead free pellets and rimfire in the future, already started batch testing copper pellets here in the S510, but I suspect the 1413 will end up being deactivated and mounted on my wall (it was my first rifle, so that is fitting), since if I clean the barrel it takes 60 to 100 shots to lead the barrel and get accuracy, and with the single ejector bolt being obsolete, perhaps it being 60 years old, it's time to buy a new Anschutz 2013 at that point.
    Nothing against lead free Copper/Polymer rounds, the Sako Blade rounds are incredibly accurate, I won't use anything else.

    Used the Mako slugs out of my .177 Daystate Wolverine R they were extremely accurate but caused feed problems with the magazine as they were a very slack fit in it. Contacted the manufactures of the slugs and was told they have tooling coming for different diameters of the .177 slug including a .452 diameter which is the diameter my Wolverine R shoots best with so happy days. Thanks for the good video.

      That's interesting about the extra size options down the line. I'm definitely going to revisit these slugs again.
      Is there a carm mag kit available for the daystate? They seem to handle the slugs pretty well 😉

      @@tillysgunstocks Carm do magazines for Daystates so I will have to check them out further to see if they do a version for my rifle. My rifle came with a single shot tray but Ive never used it however after seeing this video I will certainly give it a go when target shooting.

      Hi mate, you should try some In the 9015. I have some jsb ko in 10gn to try out. The 13gn ko were not good though.
      It was a fun video to film and I was very surprised with the results

  • @garybillington2239

    I used them on my Airwolf and Wolverine, the only thing that stopped me using them all the time is the cost. Great consistency and yes mate, so accurate it's unreal.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, have you tried the zans yet? They are more consistent in size and weight than the couple different batches of makos I've had so far. Very very good,if just a tiny bit less than the decent batch of makos. That reduced wind drift is something else..

    My Snowpeak (.177) seems to absolutely love slugs even through the mag. Yes they are not cheap but great fun as you say. Love your no BS style videos (and the goat) 😁😆👍

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He's cool eh! What does the loading arrangement look like in the snowpeak? If it loads the slugs evenly then I can't see why I wouldnt perform well with them.
      There seems to be so many myths on the slugs speeds/fps floating around the net, thought it would be good to check and debunk a few.

  • @50caliber29
    @50caliber29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice shooting. The cost is the main thing working against slugs, the returns on accuracy v standard pellets is just not enough to justify buying them, especially for sub 12lb guns.
    What model is that scope you use, very tidy compact scope, I like it.
    The Goat is rapidly taking over the starring role on your channel, legend 🐐😄.
    Excellent video, you need to invest seriously in the channel, compared to most other sites I rate your videos higher, informative & interesting.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the kind words. The channel has sort of snowballed into a thing now. When I can I will get a better camera as using the phone is tedious,but I don't want to go to mad with it. I'd like it to still feel like your having a chat with a shooting buddy. Keep it feeling completely relatable.
      The scope is an optisan cp. A few of my mates were involved with the design of it. It's a lovely little thing and for the money does everything I need of it.
      I dont think it will be long before the likes of jsb have slugs that perform like the smaller brands hand made ones. For similar cost to a good quality pellet.
      I hope so as I want to do some more serious testing
      😉

    • @50caliber29
      @50caliber29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tillysgunstocks Definitely don't change your approach it's what makes the site refreshing. I'm talking equipment to make the job of producing the channel easier, but like everything else now it's probably not cheap.
      I will check out the scope, I like it's compact lines, reminds me off the old Tasco 4x32.
      I definitely think that some slug manufacturers are charging more than is needed, slugs are the "in thing" especially with the FAC crowd & the prices reflect that. Hopefully once the hype settles down the prices will be a bit more realistic.

    Oh YES ... a fantastic and interesting video ... this is what I call entertainment , ive tried the ZAN slugs , not in all my .177's .. but results are a bit hit and miss in the ones ive used them in ... gonna wait for the second session to decide whether to invest in a tin .. but @ £12 for 100 .. Mmmm

  • @jamesnell7224
    @jamesnell7224 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice but considering they're more expensive than a lot of 22lr I'm probably going to pass on these. I have a FWB 800 X 12ftlb conversion for 25 yd benchrest comps. Quite pellet fussy but seems to love RWS Meisterkugeln & especially H&N baracuda FT. Accidentally bought some baracuda match and found there a completely different pellet that shot like crap. Gutted!

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James, yeah they are a bit dear but might just be worth it,for some disciplines. I've got some of the 10gn ko slugs here, they are priced much the same as standard jsb pellets. Yet to test them,but I will 😉

    Ive been trying to find lighter slugs for a year now in canada 😁
    I dont expect much from cheap break barrels but I am curious still
    10.5 is the weight of a heavy pellet!
    Sounds about right

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These slugs at 10.5 seem to have about the same drop at range as a pellet around 8.4gn. Which is quite incredible. That's if they are accurate atall 😉

    How they shoot is pretty much identical to how my huma regulated bsa r10 elite shoots jsb heavies 10.3gn and the knock out 10.3 gn slugs to begin with I thought the 1st 1 had hit the card and the next 2 had missed but no they had literally gone through the same hole I was in disbelief at how accurate the gun and slug combo is

    What type of barrel is on that airgun? Thanks

  • @al0zzz
    @al0zzz ปีที่แล้ว

    What’s the twist rate of that barrel? I’m very dubious of getting one stuck in Hw100

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  ปีที่แล้ว

      All 3 of my barrels are between 1/17.7 and 1/18 the 9015 being the slowest twist.
      A few of my mates are using the hw100 barrels in slug optimised rigs. The slight increase in twist rate of the hw100 barrel seems to work well. But theres always the risk of getting them stuck. I've not yet got a (lead) zan or mako stuck. The lead free zans not so much luck yet though.
