    One concept he makes that deserves extra emphasis:
    Big laydowns are a really big part of poker, especially tournament poker, where your stack value is not a linear equation. I've had above average tournament results, though on strictly small events. I have had MANY times where i made a tough lay down, lived to see another day and went on to place in an event instead of busting out. It really helps when the competition is under bluffing, but you still have to find the folds.

    Sounds like the two wheel cards were the difference between calling and folding.
    The explanation was pretty nice. It shows how, in some ways, it can be easier to play against really good opponents. I am still in the "Does he have it or not" place. I play MUCH lower stakes and there is no way my opponents play optimally. For me, the question is a matter of how the guy plays. Is he likely to fire 3 rounds with AK or not. I am also used to 4 betting be very weighted towards AA, KK and maybe some AK. For all these reasons, I usually fold JJ by the turn and will even fold it pre flop if the 4 bet is large and the SPR is low enough.

    With what hands Foxen bets the turn and check back the river giving Daniel with the winner hand? Why do you call the turn bet if you don’t call the river bet? Do you think Foxen would gave up in the river with a miss flush draw? Would he bet the turn with the nut flush draw?

  • @grindix
    @grindix ปีที่แล้ว

    Would AKcc or AKhh continue for that small of a sizing on the turn? Sure he doesn’t have to go huge with those stack sizes but miniscule sizing reeked of value and sure enough he specifically went very small as he was holding the Ah and Ac blocking both nut flush draws and all AK , AQ suited hands that will continue.

    • @grindix
      @grindix ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VVeZoX didnt say anything about laying down AKhh and AKcc. Just saying that the very small sizing on the turn seems more indicative of value (AA KK) then AKsuited with nut flush draw type hands. This maybe also factored into Negreanu’s decision to fold river.

      Seconds later Daniel said he didn't know what the computer would say about the odds. I think his instinct said that a bluff was less likely because Foxen used large bets throughout, that's a very good sign that he has a pair and you know one of the card is A.

    How does AQ and AK not have showdown value as opposed to A2-A4? What hands are you calling twice that AQ and AK are behind that A2-A4 are not also behind? Sure Aq-AK will be chopping some %, but I dont think you’re calling those often on the turn except specifically AK and AQ of clubs? I

      @barscus ปีที่แล้ว

      The math just works out differently. With KK, based on his analysis of the ranges, you only lose to A5 and AA, you chop against KK, and if you think he might shove with QQ you even beat some of his value-shoves, as well as all the bluffs. Getting three to one on the call with those numbers you just have to call. When he has the AA, tough luck, shit happens:)

    Great fold. What’s the deal with betting not all in on the river? To do with time banks?

    • @EfficientRVer
      @EfficientRVer ปีที่แล้ว

      He gets to choose how crippled he's willing to become if snap called by a big hand. Or can just be giving that impression while holding the nuts, even inducing a shove from the top of your range while still getting paid by other parts of your range that might fold to a shove.
      It also alters how likely it is that you'll think he's picking an amount you'll pay off, versus an amount you'll fold to, with some or all of your range. In general, it gives you more to think about, more ways to misinterpret why he picked that amount.
      So in that sense, it might make you use more time banks, but I'd say that is rarely the specific reason for making a bet requiring more thinking. The bigger related reason, is that in any specific amount of time, by adding more things for you to think about, you have less time to think about whatever is actually key to figuring out what caused the particular bet.
      I've been in situations where I bet, and if the opponents go into the tank for long enough, I will sometimes joke that "I thought I was ahead, hoping you'd call because you should fold. But I'm wrong often enough that maybe you have to call anyway, especially with pot odds." That phrase seems to make them switch from thinking about combos, to thinking about leveling issues and tells. So it's more useful to say it when you do actually want a call, but it's also pretty useful when you're bluffing, they think a long time, and seem more and more likely to call. While it might make them snap call, it might make them rethink and reach a different conclusion, just like any other reason they have to decipher something which could be either a tell or a reverse tell.
