This really reminds me of Daniel's analysis of Scotty Nyugen's speech play in the final hand of the 98 WSOP main event. Nyugen had gotten down to heads up with what I believe was an amateur named Kevin McBride. Nyugen could tell that the pressure had really been grinding on McBride, it was obvious he wasn't having a good time, and didn't want to play anymore. Scotty recognized this, shoved with some thick value hand, and said "if you call it's all over baby" to tempt the guy into calling for his emotional desire not to play anymore. McBride called off the rest of his stack playing the board. This is pretty much the opposite spot, but still the same type of emotional psychological analysis of the opponent's desire to play on.

Lol I'm clearly talking about when Daniel is chatting about what Jager must have had. The point is that he was careful not to talk freely (non-strategically) until the dealer mucked the cards.

Huh. Unusual analysis :). I'm just a Joe, but I like the all-in size A LOT, precisely because of your comment "He's having a Blast. Doesn't want to go home." I think he might fold a variety of 2-Pair hands. And I don't think A-2 on that board is strong enough to believe 'value-only.'
I don;'t think it's wise to try and get him off two pair here and considering his long tank on the turn, it's far more likely he just has an Ace or a draw

I did hybrid poker for a month and it was the most intuitive, user friendly software I have used. That being said, at the moment (as of March 1 2023) they only have one stack size (100BB) and only have 6 max games
I love how Daniel explains that he should've bet 300 on the end, which I agree with, because it exploits his opponent not wanting to go home vs an all in. Pure theory guys will never do that. And they would be right ONLY if every player at the table was executing a strong theory game.

Hey Daniel, you mention in the first hand that your 300k open bet after the turn was to charge any draws. What type of sizing would you expect to see if YOU had the draw? I am trying to put myself in Jager's shoes and decipher if I can get a read on your hand through your bet size but I'm having trouble deciding what size you would go with on a diamond/straight draw as opposed to having it?

You know what’s weird about Bonomo? He’s an amazing player obviously but I’ve never seen him do anything uniquely special. I’m sure he must show that creativity but he might just be an unreal decision maker. Making the right play at an unreal rate.
Not a fan of his at all but great respect for his play. Huge fan of his back in the day like party poker scandal days and then seeing him rebound live. Was happy for him.
Just seeing his stack size. It’s like he’s always going deep in high rollers it seems.
That creativity that makes players stand out is also why they’re so high variance.

Is 'around the horn' straights ever used in any poker games? ie K-4, Q-3 and J-2??

If Chewy jams AK+, QQ+, you have 40.2% against that range with QQ and you need ~30%. So folding seems pretty big mistake and he is likely to have little bit wider range anyway.
fair point in regards to the direct pot odds you’re being laid, but this fails to take in consideration the ICM situation. In general, it’s a complete disaster for Negreanu to be all in pre at this stage of the tournament for 1m chips effective (which I think is about 80bbs). Maybe if he has AA or KK it can be justified but I think Negreanu is right that QQ would just be a fold.

I've noticed a significant contrast between playing low stakes and high stakes poker. At higher stakes, I receive a lot more action, and it appears that my opponents are willing to call me with almost any hand. Could you please explain why this is the case and how I can adapt to the level difference and remain competitive?
it's worth calling when you're deep stacked because you can get all the money.. vs 25 percent of your stack to win mere change
I wish I knew half of what you're talking about. I've been a typical home player for more than 10 years. My range is everything from 7/2 off to AA suited :)

Got my 53 in the test. Considering I've learnt about GTO couple of weeks ago, I like my result. Thank you Daniel for bringing my interest in Poker back, no need to put the work in the theory.
you still should, theory is a good benchmark, and its dissociated from other factors like psychology and the players. it is still very important to use theory to gauge good moves.
@@KazACWizard agreed. Realising that, as I am digging deeper into this world. Theory can provide a strong baseline to build your game, but just in any other field sometimes you need to think outside the box and react on the spot. Bot theory can help you build a baseline to start from
@@anapsuturi9827 the theory for anything you do is important, but you use that theory to manipulate it in situations such as live games, where you have tells, and you can gauge player tendencies, then of course you may manipulate the theory to bet more often persay to gain that much more favourable positive ev.
outside the box thinking is very important i agree, however you cant get there without theory which provides the context. as i mentioned tells and the tendencies also provide the context but the theory allows you to gauge how much can you actually exploit such players
I agree, anything new you want to study in life you start from the theory. The more you study, the more there is left to discover, especially now, when everything is hanging so fast, including the game. So, there's obviously a lot of learning to do. As my guitar teacher used to say: "the moment you decide that you have nothing more to learn and you reached your maximum you start to stagnate and go down".
Poker is a wolf's game. Major respect to Negreanu for putting guilt and emotions aside when in the zone, I don't think I would have the heart to think like this.

@@WillPage I mean that it pays to be predatory. "Preying on" people's tendencies and exploiting them is an integral part of making more money. But Nugreanu knows how to separate being predatory in and out of game, that's something that is really respectable
Let me start off by saying that I am NOT a pro, but I do play a lot of local friendly games. Having watched Daniel for many years, I would have definitely put a weak A in his range the way it played out pre flop. Limp, call the raise pre flop. Then he leads out every street after. Now he is absolutely good enough to not only let me believe but make me believe that was exactly what he had. So just like his opponent here I would question myself after the river, but I would definitely have folded as well. I would have folded to any bet having put the weak A in his range from the start and believing that his crap kicker hit on the flop. Thank you for this channel, Daniel I really enjoy hearing about your thought process.

Great table draw for daniel
Daniel, a few questions : 1.How much was the buy-in for that tournament ? ... 2.How much should a player have aside as "poker money", in order to be able to afford a buy-in around 500k, which I am guessing was about the buy-in for that ? ... 3.If 24 players paid 500k each, meaning 10,2mil and prizes were 7,2 mil, what value did the organizers offer, that justified them walking away with almost 3mil ? Why didn't the players just hire a few dealers and do it on their own ?
What I’m really curious about is what you do if he raises you all-in after you bet 300k? As some random guy he really could have AQ, sometimes the easiest way to handle limpers is just to limp behind, especially with a lot of players behind you, bc when one of them raise you can see what the limper does when it gets back to them. did they limp trap? Will they fold? (probably unlikely dnegs limp folds but before that tournament youd think it was unlikely he limps at all 😅) He could also easily have A7, A3, 3s & 7s, and sometimes even 54s. Just curious if you pray and call or you think “this is a guy who doesn’t want to leave he’s not doing this with air” and fold.
I’m not very good at poker but I thought it was great how you shoved bc yeah sometimes he’s got AQ or a set or something, but most of the time he doesnt, and at least by shoving first, you have him covered by a lot, and you take away his ability to bluff you. bc I imagine if he shoves after another 300k bet you’re in a pretty tough position even if you know he _probably_ doesn’t have it.
To be honest, the hybrid poker has quite a few bugs:
1, not being able to see how the hand ended sucks
2, not being able to see the correct action after every step/hand
3, not being able to pause the game
You can do all that when you sign up and use the product. You are just doing the test, and the 30 question test does show you the correct answer. How the hand ends isn't relevant at all.
Let’s say you do bet 300k on River and he jams all in. Would be hard too have bluffs there with so little behind for you to call? He could be slow playing AA ( even though you block). He could have QQ calling you down thinking you were betting on flush draw. I think if he jams, there’s a chance you find a fold ( more unlikely but also could have AQs , 45s )
Fair point about jamming on the 300k bet with 0 fold-equity being a super-strong looking move, but the problem with it is the same thing that makes it look strong, he has exactly 0 fold-equity against anything short of a pure bluff. Yes he could have you beat, but at that point you're paying 150k to win almost 2 million, giving you better than 12 to 1 on the call, meaning he has to have you beat well over 90% of the time for a fold to be something to consider for Daniel.
@@barscus I do think u have to call but would feel like you are beat. I know AA QQ most likely raise pre but could of been looking for a squeeze and then decide to slow play

When there are many hands that beat you and your opponent calls 300k to see the river. Then comes a Q which is heavily in favor of one of the hands you’re worried about…you then shove it in and hope for a fold.

Funny to see the A 8 of clubs, played a tournament yday and made a big mistake. So I was short stack on final table with 70k chips. bb at 10k aiddy. So I wanted to jam pick up the blinds right? but then someone jammed before me but instead of questioning I kind of just took the gamble and called. He had queens. I think the plan to jam wasnt too bad but alarm bells shouldve gone off on the all in. AS my only outs against another all in are most likely just Aces or a flush. Such a dumb call cost me the tournament 😪

i clocked on to the fact that the guy was sweating and shaking, as if he may have known that he was beat. he really didnt like the blank because he started shaking. and then the river, his head was shaking a bit so i mean that doesnt scream strength. so mabye even if you value bet him 300k he may have folded. i dont know if you picked that up daniel but still a great hand.

Hard to disagree with a master like Daniel, but...
I feel like a check on the river is the better move. If you're prepared to jam or even bet 300, you should be ready to call 450. Most importantly, it leaves him in the position to believe you missed a big draw or over played and his Ace is good, and he'll shove it for you. If he checks you're still no worse off.
