- After a lot of hard work and numerous setbacks we are finally making good progress. if you want to skip the joinery skip nearer the end of the video to see the end result, if not we hope you enjoy this longer video! and remember if you do like this video be sure to leave us a like and leave a comment!!
I wondered where you two kept disappearing to, what a relief.
Nice to see my old bus grunting about the manor. We do have a rebuilt gearbox lurking.❤
Well done Ashley and Tom. Great to see you two back. Good to see the Chieftain running. Let's see you make her beautiful again. 🙂
Thank you ! I’m sure we will in the future but I think for now we have other projects that deserve our full attention
Im so impressed....I cant even comprehend what you all are doing to get this up and running, but I cant stop watching
Looking forward to the next chally 1 prototype video
We can’t wait! We’ve been doing bits and bobs to it a lot, well mainly Tom, can’t be stopped with a paintbrush 😂
What is the VRN? It would be interesting to know it’s service history. You should challenge yourselves to fully restore this Chieftain - it would make great restoration video footage.
Yes definitely in need of a revamp looks like its been on fire 😂
I agree
@RetroYamaha its what hotroders call 'patina' 💀
Definitely not a stelth vehicle!!
Big as a truck!
Smokes like a stove!
Sounds like a battleship!
But you can't help but love her!💕
I can just see her coming over the hill
to rescue pinned down soldiers!
Loud-Smokey but the enemy runs for the hills!!
The number 10 on that breaker switch means it's A 10 A breaker switch mates. Over there. Just A quick tip read other ones for different numbers on them. That actually like those breaker switches with different numbers like 10,20,30,40,50,60. Switch stands for Amperage it puts out of the breaker control switch. That's it's maximum output.
any of our old armour deserves restoring...loved seeing the chiefs in south west wales...on hols landy stops us then 20 burst through hedge and cross road...amazing sight...near castlemartin it was during late 70s early 80s
Yes! Return of the chieftain!
She’s back in business!!
The Tom and Ashley show BRILLIANT 👏👏👏👏👏
Nice one guys
Really enjoyed this 💯👍😎
Thanks Chris 👍Tom and Ashley show, I like it 👍
Great vid. I’ll watch whatever you decide to do. Thanks
Every tank should be a lovely tank !
Well at least you have someone doing most of the work. So that means at least you're a passenger on The struggle bus. 🤣🤣🤣. Excellent video keep them coming please. ✌️❤️🍺
Work experience are great value for money !!
Will be there for the full Monty 27th. I've got to see this one 👍👍👍👍
It’s been parked purposely in full view !
very interesting how you got the old girl flying again ..., i love driving tanks !?
you should have asked for a glass hammer or a left handed screwdriver lol
Awsome to see this thing going!
Hi Ash & Choo Choo meet you both last weekend at the full Monty! Had a great time and it was cool to see the Chieftain in the flesh, and if you ever want to visit my railway I will treat you both to a few Drams. Bruce
Mr Hewes and Australian armour museum are so popular because they restore stuff, not just a cosmetic paint job. I suppose the question is, what the ROI on restoration costs versus TH-cam money?
We always have resto jobs on, currently have an Abbott pack in bits being hand painted bit by bit, we’re excited to make more videos in the future when we have more time to do so
Stop pestering them, it’s their own channel to do what they want, this is the second comment I’ve seen from you trying to convince them to do the same thing as others.
@@dakotareid1566 First of all, you’re not in any position to tell anyone what to do. Secondly, you’re monitoring my comments? You’re a stalker?, Thirdly, I’m sure they take any comments with a huge pinch of salt, and finally, any comment on a channel feeds the TH-cam algorithm. So please, next time ask your dad if your comment is warranted. That is of course if you know who he is?
The MOD wouldn't know if a tank went missing these days. Carry on gentleman.
Great video chaps well done
Wow good job would love to know the history behind this tank
Very nice rescue! Will this Chieftain be restored ?
The video i've been waiting for... great work again guys!
I love the way that engine sounds! Reminds me of our local tractor pull here in Iowa, USA! Still...bro should be wearing a helmet while driving that with his head out the hatch like that over terrain....i kept expecting him to break his nose or jaw or back of the head on the edge of upper glacis hatch opening...but then, those wacky guys play rugby with no head gear at all, maybe they are just built tougher than us yanks?
anyhow, from what i have heard, you could run a Chieftan multifuel off of peanut butter if you needed to...and by that smoke, maybe that is what is in the tank?
just what i love about Ash and Tom, its just as it is, climbing in and out of tanks, no matter your fitness, these things are designed to kill and not necessarily the enemy either, what ever you do in these things, everything has to be done with caution, there are so many nasty pieces of metal sticking out in all directions it's no surprise to me to hear them screaming as they bounce off things, catch fingers, bang heads knees and elbows, you get scars everywhere, nothing is easy to get at, you need to be a contortionist, and everything is heavy enough to squash you especially when you very slim, more padding required, good work out Ash
yep you boys are evil to Brook - a couple of my favorites, box of sky hooks, go ask for a long weight, four candles
the old girl may look scabby, (and i seen worse, there was a girl, ya dad knows her) but considering when she last ran, sounds ok, perhaps a tad too much fuel going through, smoke looks heavy with it, give the old girl a good jet wash, and Ash
Oh yes tanks give you a workout alright 😂 and with the smoke there’s no exhaust box in to so it’s pretty much straight off the manifolds so I can only imagine it makes it seem abit more Smokey
@@TanksalotGB roger golf tango, nice job getting the old scabby girl going, but the scabs are only cosmetic and not skin deep hehe
Many years ago I worked on the gun control system and see you still have the infrared light on the side of the turret some internal electronics were made at Marconi works Chelmsford
Challenger 👍 🎉
Interesting video.
You need to get the challenger up and running but once that is done the chieftain deserves to be sorted out as well!
😊
That works for me, one day everything will be fixed, but the challenger is what I’m most excited about
Subbed!
Would love to see full restoration of all kinds of military vehicles
Our atr 1/ challenger 1 restoration is underway, hoping to get a video out this weekend on it ! Make sure your subscribed !
Quality content.
Wow, amazing. 😮
That would be neat to see it get a restoration since she’s not a hulk anymore
I’m sure one day it will, at the moment we’re dong our challenger 1 prototype, check out our new video !!
Tanker's are a rare breed when I was in the army no way in hell would I go into one safer outside.
"A movin' foxhole attracts the eye, Willie."
Your video was excellent! Can I use it on my channel? I'll acknowledge your work in the video and description.
Ye that shouldn’t be a problem if you make sure to credit our Channel and leave a link 👍look forward to seeing it !
@@TanksalotGB thanks!
It lives
Love your content
Skyhooks, a great aussie band.
Can you deliver to Canada super love it👍
USA here.. where do these tanks and vehicles come from? I see in videos a lot of them just sitting there in a field all over grown. Are these old abandoned training grounds where they were parked and left to rot or where do these units come from and why are they left out in fields like this, especially if they are still able to be run at the time they are parked?
So we’re actually a tank driving experience company, but we have an addiction to buying tanks, so far the collection is at around 300 !
Please look after the old beast, she deserves a dignified retirement, not left to decay in a paddock.
I would love to see you guys work on a VI Tiger
The10 on the breaker is ten amps
Full restoration!!
Good to see & hear it running - sort of 😮 Definitely not a happy Chieftain but well done nonetheless 👍
It got better in the end, it had a few lumpy moments and then cleared, a new gearbox, fresh fuel and various other new parts and shed be like new again 😂
How much money in USD would you think it take to do a complete drivetrain and engine overhaul?
The bottle of piss at 17:48 lol
Could very well be, wouldn’t be the first time 😂
RC planes make everything better.
I'd like to see restoration but also engine swaps maybe you guy build your own ARV with a chally engine could even try doing your own common rail conversion and turbo swap like the chally 3 has something unique that no one else has but would be a good project and series to watch swap the ARV wich engines to either a 6bt hydraulic pump and use winches of of a old foden wrecker, I said ARV or similar so you guys could use it on other projects pulling dead tanks about but yeah if anyone can do something like this it you lot definitely got the gear to do so awesome content 👌
That would be the king of arvs! You really want to see us struggle 😂I could be persuaded!
@TanksalotGB struggle is where you develop, lol. I'd just like to see a proper in depth mess around with different engines in different kit, I love the nut and bolt restoration, but I'd love to see a sort of what if project like what if we slapped a Cummins KTTA in a centurion ARV but trying to keep it in its pack cradle would mega a scania v8 centurion ARV would be a content creation machine obviously it's not it's not a simple task lol
Well done lads the Reme would be proud
That gear box is dirty and the filters and screens probably need A very good cleaning out. If it went into gear.,an just won't shift into the last gear.,or gears on that chieftain tank. Check those bits on it out.,an them over really good. I say there is A lot of shaving and sludge inside of that gear box.
It’s shifting ok, but 1st and 4th it’s revving with no drive 😢
Greta's going to get you.
What kind of motor is installed there? Sounds like a two-stroke diesel to me. Do you have tanks just standing around in the neighborhood?
There a leyland l60 engine so yes 2 stroke diesel, designed to be multi fuel 👍
Oh man I remember before last year when people thought these were good tanks. lmao
Dang guys! Job well done. Are you going to fully restore the chief?
It’s a really cool tank design.
Oh and why do only have about 27k subs? You should have a shitload more!
Maybe in the future we will but at the moment we’re thinking our other projects require our full attention! And I appreciate that man means a lot ! 🙏🏻
@@TanksalotGB well kudus man. I really like your videos and the humor in it. Keep going 🫵🏻🤘🏻
13:40... Thats a little more than "Some seepage"
i think anyone who ever works in a workshop environment has had all the tricks in the book thrown at them
good to see the next generation keeping up the good work ethics - but Ashly, will Brook return and get you back with something equally funny, does he have a good sense of humor, that's what i loved to do, particularly when things back fired on the boss
i remember being asked to find a long weight, i was already wise to this one, i smiled and politely wondered off - i decided to go sit in the sunshine, it was a nice day - half an hour later the boss came out looking for me and asked what i was doing with a smile on his face, so i said i was still waiting, looked at my watch and said, not time to return yet, still waiting, nearly home time
love to see a full on detox and repaint, make the old girl pretty again, give it some love
I think he’ll solider on😂eventually he’ll learn that me and Tom are complete buffoons, he said he won’t fall for stuff again but I’m sure we can make it happen 😂
@@TanksalotGB definitely no baffoon, your way nicer than that the pair of you - just a couple of lads love to have fun, when your in a job you create as in self employed, its the way to go, no rules as such, apart from the public perspective, keep up the antics
You guys should restore the interior of the tank to its former glory but leave the outside the same
I’m sure in the future we’ll come back to it, but at this point in time I think we need to put more time into our challenger 1 project
I think you should restore tank internally but leave outside looking rusty
I think if were to do the internals I wouldn’t be able to leave the outside, however I think for now the chieftain can stay as a display as there’s other projects like the challenger that deserve our full attention
Makes me sad that these once well serviced wagons are in such poor condition. Served 8yrs on Chieftain during 80s and taught young troopers how to drive them as well. Look after your wagon and it'll look after you was what I always told them. Fear Naught 😢
Great work lads this is amazing! cant wait to see the next video
Thank you sir !! We’re looking forward to it aswell !
did you got permit from military?
It's been a long time lads but worth the weight sounds like the chieftain was giving you loads of trouble but got there in the end keep up the good work Ashley and Tom restoring vehicles
Chieftains will always give problems but everyday is a school day ! We’re looking forward to being able to put our full attention into the challenger project
Pls get this Tank full working.
And what is that vor an Tank?
Where can i get the planes?
the small pump was for the small engine that is not fitted (GUE) the big one was for the Main Engine
I’m glad the gue was out, lots more space, but I have managed to get the gue out without taking any major bits off
i would take it home if you dont live in city
More innuendos in the first 3 1/2 minutes than a Benny Hill sketch. Love it ! Question, Where did you get all that sunshine from? Our local supplier has run out!
Gotta stick with what your good at 😂🫡
Yay! The dynamic duo are back, with a replen of saucy inuendos.
Well done for getting her mobile.
You might have let Tom have a drive?
That was cruel what you did to Brook 😂😂 I did when I was in though it’s a right of passage.
So impressed with you guys.
Oh, by the way Ash, yes I would like to see you blowing a black tube 🥵
Keep up the good work guys.
Toms been practicing the school boy jokes day and night ready for this video 😂I’m sure he’ll have more ready for the next 😂
Did he really HAWK TUA!?
As A suggestion to y'all on that part of it.
Nice to see this old beast running again, can't wait to eventually see the challenger moving around. Question though I've heard you guys refer to a donkey engine, what's is that and why is it called a donkey engine?. Thanks and really enjoy your content.
A donkey engine is the gue, so it’s a smaller engine used as a generating system without running the main engine, as for why it’s called a donkey I have no idea 😂
Kinda figured it was a British Army term. Thanks for the info though.
@@nickjones266 the large air pipe on the top is like a donkeys tigger and it comes off the engine
How would it be slipping in 1st and 4th if it's a manual transmission???
Hydro electric transmission on a chieftain, manual was used earlier in the centurions 👍
A lot is two words.
29:45 hawk tuah
HOW DO YOU GUYS KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT TANKS ??????
you get one and learn as you go or volunteer to fix 1 you f up a lot of stuff but there still shit loads of chieftain parts around you have to be able to work things out it's easy these days you just plug in the computer. I started as a diesel mechanic by walking in a shop that was looking and said I was one, was given a $250,000 tractor that needed a new engine rebuild I had been working exotics and plain cars for years anyway my first diesel ran like a dream and was the highest paid worker in the shop 3 months later and was fixing tanks and guns in Ukraine till got hurt @ 58 you can't do what you could you just think you can but now it's hard to find someone who know how a carb works, hell just from watching these videos I could rebuild a chieftain but they are still cheap as tanks go they sold a mint 1 a few years back for only $42 grand plus you can buy all the manuals on them as well we have most of a panzer mk IV which will a hell of a lot more work as all parts have to be made and it still on the wrong side of the Russian lines. Have a good one!
@@vaughanerwin7195 well i love what you are doing and you do a great job !!!! ii hope you get them all running and find them a good home !!! keep up the great work !!!!
Do ya'll get Cherry Pop-Tarts over there?! I destroyed a whole box after smoking a blunt, best stoner snack ever.
I pull my hair out just working on my motorbikes I don't think that I would up to fiddling about on MBT's
It’s hard work I can’t lie 😂but the test drive at the end makes it all worth it !
I wonder if government will do anything if you took the tank to your garage or somewhere and start reparing
it
If you do it on you tube? Pretty sure.
how many chieftains do you have???
Believe we have about 11 in different variants
@@TanksalotGB jesus christ. what, you gonna open a car lot but for chieftain tanks?
Well we have close to 300 miltary vehicles, a lot of Russian kit aswell !
@@TanksalotGB damn. that would be a tank lovers dream come true.
It's a sad fact these days but you all probably have more armor on strength than the BA!
Not very fit lad. More circuits for you.
Where do you find tanks, abandoned and just standing around, waiting to be claimed by anyone?
