It had a lot of faults but man I still love the KV series of tanks, so iconic and they just look so cool. Is this one of the only runners in the world or what? I don't think I've ever seen a video of them driving before. Most of them were all blown to hell and back, to even have one at all is a miracle.
That's incredible! I didn't know any survived. This is the first video of one running I ever saw. I heard they were slow, yes I can see that. They are smaller than I thought they would be. Hardly any of the body of the chassis sticks up above the tracks. Maybe 20 cm in height. All sloping armor. Way ahead of its time. I love that small machine gun on the back of the turret. That's the only one I ever saw. that's brilliant. I have often wondered why fighter planes didn't have them. A fighter plane can only turn so fast. It was part of the strategy back then. If those planes would have had a machine gun set at the perfect angle backwards the pursuing plane would have been locked in position doing it's maximum turn at the same time. It would have changed aerial combat strategy. But I digress. The KV-1 would have been a tough match for any tank its size. Maybe even now.
I don't know much about the really fine technical details of tanks, especially Russian ones, but it looks like there's a lot of excess slack in the tracks.
It's a mixed bag with this one. Look up WW2 pictures of this tank. You'll see some of them that have this much slack and some of them with higher tension.
