The creator of the Series actually had planned and developed a 5 Season show of Rome, spreading the Story out more and the General Plot from Julius Caesar’s Assassination to the Death of Augustus in 14 A.D. However, at the last minute while he was doing the work for season 2, HBO Called him and said it had to be the final season, and he had to compress the entire storyline into 10 episodes HBO, I call for justice
Let's not lie this video pretty much showed how crazy expensive the cost of the show was. HBO wasn't really that big during the series but grew cause of streaming platforms and especially GOT.
Welcome to all "Rome" fans. At home, we still use phrases from "Rome' in our daily life. I use "we must never speak of this again", after making a huge error :)
@@Mango62uk I'll always love Pullo's line when Vorenus questions how Mars could allow Caesar's crossing the Rubicon: "Maybe he was taking a crap and missed it." God I loved Pullo!
RIP Ray Stevenson, a warm and talented actor who played one of the best characters in history. Tito Pullo show us the pillars of the western culture throw the life of a regular roman citizen and a soldier of the legion THIRTEEN!
Could not agree more. Have just watched Season 1 again and enjoyed it even more. Ray Stevenson's portrayal of Pullo in terms of the viewers involvemen emotionally for me, was at an Oscar level. Not often, especially now, does an actor make me talk out loud, groan, laugh, smile as if I was feeling what he felt. When he loses his temper on finding out Eirene loves another man she wants to marry him, kills him, I felt sorry for him. The 'manly' love he feels for Lucius as his friend I can't recall have seen ever before. But sadly after a masterpiece of acting he only seemed to thugs, baddies and an over the top Norse god. @@Mango62uk
Really wish they would remake this with a GOT budget. It would blow that series out of the water. Always loved this time period since it's just so full of drama and turmoil with such a reflection on modern times that I think they could make a very successful remake. I have been seeing an increase interest in antiquity and particularly Rome lately so maybe it's not too naive of a dream.
Just consider, almost a decade after this series was created, people are still asking for more. I haven't seen GoT, but from what I've read, it ended badly .. and there's seems little demand for more.
@@Mango62uk The first four seasons are good and are definetly worth watching. After season four the writers passed the books and the quality of the writing clearly goes downhill from there. I'd say watch up to season four and just pretend it ends there 😅 I hear that new GOT show is good. Haven't seen it yet.
Actually, I'll go as far to say that the first four seasons of GOT is some of the best television there is and you REALLY should watch it if you haven't already.
@@siriusfox195 Thanks, Sirius, for the GoT recommendation. It's just that I can't stand dragons and fantasy stuff. It's weird. I love sci-fi, zombies, the dystopian genre and "Gormenghast" by Mervyn Peake is a favourite book. But, I just can't stand elves and dragons !
@@Mango62uk The cool thing about game of thrones, especially the first four seasons is that it plays out almost more like a historical piece than a fantasy. That was a large part of it's appeal when it first came out. There's magic, there's dragons, there's zombies. But it's a backdrop. It's more about the political intrigue, the backstabbing. I think GOT really got a lot of ideas from Hbo's Rome.
A remake of this show going for the original 5 season plan but not being so reliant on using so many larger than life expensive sets (cgi and green screen have come a long way) could work.
If they remade this series with a GOT budget, but with modern green screen tech, they could extend it to 5 seasons... On the other hand... should we see the SAME time period again and again? Always Julius Caesar, Cleopatra, etc, etc. Why not return in time to the time of Gaius Marius and Sulla?
Just make a comment and I'll read it! I don't have an email as my channel is not monetised or anything like that. It's just to promote stuff that I'm interested in! :)

@@RicePho Without Rome, not GoT. That's a fact. It was the most expensive show until Game of Thrones.
Quintilius Varus! WHERE ARE MY SEASONS?
HBO told him that the second one was the last season because of BBC (they thought the show was too expensive). Shame on BBC.
I concur, we were robbed of three complete seasons!
I loved this series, absolutely brilliant! 💖
Possibly my favorite show of all time.

Best show of all time, this show made the standards of todays tv shows. Amazing! They need to continue the story, HBO you must!

I volunteer to be in the crucifixtion detachment.

Best series of all time.
They don't make 'em like this anymore. Fantastic show and production!
So much potential, for at least 5 seasons. So much happened from Caesar crossing the Rubicon to his assassination that was missed.
Congratulations to the behind scene professionals. Great show.
RIP Ray Stevenson
Thanks for sharing this.
My pleasure! Always happy to keep 'Rome' alive and introduce it to new viewers.
Back when these big budget shows didn't try pushing the "message".
Such better times.
Maaaan Lindsay Duncan is such a delight 😍😍😍
Love this show!🤗
So many scenes from "Rome" have their real-life counterparts in 2020, no?
I was not ready for vorenus being scottish
I think his breakthrough role was in "Trainspotting", which is essential viewing.
also voices soap from original modern warfare trilogy

Please, make the series about the life of Scipio africanus
Thanks for your videos - would it be possible this video in better qualitiy?
I'd love to, but this is all I have ! Just don't watch on a large monitor :)

So sad HBO and BBC killed it.

I laugh when the so called Military Advisor calls them Legionnaires. Obviously knew his history well.
Too bad HBO had to make the series way too sensational and commercial - choosing a flashy sometimes trashy story instead of historical accuracy
Its Love&Hate to watch Making Of: You want, but it steels Movie Magic from you. So sad only 2 seasons!
And it’s a wonder why they were astronomically over budget!
Super miss Rome. Canceled way too early. The world was so lived in, too much cgi these days.
Same here 😢
