    I'm just so happy you didn't include that one song about spinning right round...now it won't be stuck in my head all weekend. Dang-it...too late. Great tip! 😁

    And for @Flapjack McCoy "You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round
    Like a record, baby, right 'round, 'round, 'round". Thanks Jason, great Tip. I actually did this at our Fire Department for one door that uses a panic bar and I was able to use pop rivits. I thi k I found your previous video when I was looking for a solution.

      Thanks Gumby! You just knocked out Santana/Michelle Branch's "The Game of Love" out of my head (absolutely no idea where that came from btw). Now back to spinning...

    NIIIIIIIIIICE! That's a great tip. I have the locking plates for cabinet locks to keep them from spinning, this seems like the same thing but for rim cylinders. Thanks for the help Jason!

    You are a life saver. Had this exact issue this morning returning from the shops with my front door, the cylinder started to spin. After panicking it eventually opened the latch and after viewing this video is now fully fixed and working.

    I recently read some post on reddit about rim cylinders rotating and metal door/panic bars. So this was timely to visualize what's going on and what the remedy is. Thanks 👍

      Me too...I'm wondering if Jason saw it as well...or is it just a spooky coincidence? Hmm...

      both kinda, I had been meaning to specifically show this anyway as I had a recent comment on that old video and then I saw the reddit post (I replied to it with this too)
      to nail the proverbial coffin, as I was sorting a bin I ran across a number of the interior plates so I was like … welp, all signs point this way let me get it done b4 I put it off again

    Hey..I just saw a video where the Ace guy said I could just drill the cylinder out??? Would that work on this rim lock thingy? 🤣
    Seriously though, Great tip Jason! especially the pop rivets...Love me an up-sale!

    Hey Jason, just an add-on that I tried to find the rim cylinder mounting plates with the extra holes that you showed starting around 3:36 and while I couldn’t find either of the ones you showed (with the extra holes on opposite diagonal corners, or a stick-out tab with a pre-drilled hole), I did find one with two extra holes on top (GMS MPT1 aka GMS0183) and one with the extra tab but no hole (Schlage B502-200) which just means you have to drill one through the tab. Figured I’d comment to save people from searching like I just did 😊

    Great tips Jason, thanks for sharing these! Amazing that they don’t really come with those stabilizing holes any more. Also appreciate the reminder at the end about the blue Loctite lol

    Also, if it’s a really sloppy fit, temporarily assemble the lock or panic device to make sure the tailpiece is aligned nicely and not binding before putting the screw in it. There’s nothing worse then getting it all assembled only to realize that the tailpiece is binding.

    Since the goal is to prevent rotation of the backing plate, you don’t have to drill holes into it to achieve that. You can place screws at two diagonally opposite corners on the outside of the plate so that the screws are tight to the plate. Doing that at more than two corners would be better yet.

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely could do that especially if the cylinder hole is too big and using a smaller plate. Better than not!

    A thief stole stuff through my window and the next day I noticed the key spinning in the lock like this. Could it be that someone was messing with it to get in the house ? I’m trying to see what I can do about the issue right now as I type

  • @joegehl1360
    @joegehl1360 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much of the tab should stick out of the cylinder as it passes through the door? I cut off on tab and key is still hard to move

    • @selock
      @selock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn’t sound lined up right. Loosen & wiggle the plate while retightening screws slowly one at a time. When it starts binding you found the issue.
      The flat bar coming through the door should usually extend no further than about 3/8” and more than 3/16” INTO THE LOCK it’s just dependent on the lock

    Doesn’t a double cylinder deadbolt contain a rim cylinder though?

    • @selock
      @selock  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Rim cylinders are mostly used in panic devices and rim style locks (typically square body lock surface mounted to inside of door, also “Jimmyproof” style)
      The cylinders for deadbolts, while they may resemble a rim cylinder, are not.
