  • In this video we will take a look at the very common Sargent Lever Handle (7 line or 6500 series) where you don’t have the existing key and need to rekey it.
You can disassemble the chassis to get enough flex in the retainer to remove the handle!

I like those shims that come in the anti-theft tags. It's thinner than regular shims. Also like the part where they are free.

    Hi Jason.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video.
I'm surprised how messed up the master key system was. So strange.
So thanks for sharing this information.
I am learning something new every day.
    Thanks again.

The anti-theft stickers that are found on merchandise have 2-3 thin pieces of metal. They work fantastic for shimming cylinders with tight tolerances.
Also, giving the sides of the cylinder a slight squeeze with some vice grips will make shimming easier.

Nicely done Jason great video explains a lot of things will help a lot of people. Even some basic just headaches with the locks himself we’ve all had them from time to time that just don’t wanna come apart. And you have to give them a whack.

Great video Jason. Reminds me of the first place I worked as a locksmith but everything was OLD Yale. First masterkeyed system I ever dealt with and I got pretty good at picking them.

With that many master pins and the amount of possible shear-lines they created you’d think it would pick easier. I’m just not that patient either though. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

Nice, love seeing you decoding the master key.
Would it be better for a master key to have smaller number depths so someone cant take an existing key and cut it down (take off more key) to turn it into a master key? Or a mix I guess would be better. (/me not being a locksmith just a hobbiest just thinking out loud).

This reminds me when I couldn't remove a Mark Lever Lock with my regular pokey tool. Looked in the new Marks Lever Lock box, and used it's depression tool and got the old lever out and replaced it. Experience is sometimes a biatch!

Never thought of plyers for the C clip removal. I always used two small flat heads. (Can you say ouch? Lol.)

Hmmmm, I missed commenting on this one. I was thinking because they are mastered there would be more than a few shear lines and would bump easy, but I don't have a lot of experience with Sargent.

Simply drilled mine out then replaced it with a donor piece from a worn out handle.

Thanks for sharing the FrankenLever with such a screwed up Master key system with no luck for a TMK. Perhaps just 1 more blank and you would have had it (not)

have you tried the extra thin shims from CLKsupply ? I love them. Works great on the tighter tolerance locks. have to be little more gentle with them.

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I was decoding the cylinder to find the master keys so I wouldn’t have to deal with more disassembly.
The locks themselves will be rekeyed, that’s why they are all here
not sure where the confusion is there

    • @primelocksmith8876

Find the master key as per customer request ? Or ? Because it would of been a lot easier just to dump out master pins and just key it up wouldn't it ?
