    Excellent trick to be Wiser to the Weiser

    O Reilley auto parts has a small feeler stock gauge that is half the size of a normal feeler gauge. I picked one up exclusively because it was a tiny feeler gauge and I work on a lot of small stuff that regular gauge won't even fit into. It was cheap, like 7 or 8 bucks, but worth it to have..
    edit: Great video btw, thanks for showing us the secrets of the weiser knob it's great to know these things for when I do run into them.

    Fortunately I have one of those Weiser tools. Unfortunately it seems like no one in Phoenix has a Weiser lock. Thanks just the same Jason.

      Oddly enough, one of Weiser's knob designs is named Phoenix lol

    Interesting, thanks. I was always shown/ told these were for shim picking the lock from the back, like you'd normally shim pick a cylinder....but for the older locks that did not pop apart, and especially for the weiser bolt.

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought that as well in the beginning but wondered why they made it so narrow if it was to be used that way (because all those old old old fellas may have been deep in the knob but still plenty of regular shim room- width wise)
      Then I was enlightened :)

    MBA USA still has the Weiser shim in stock ($4) (60 pieces), I got mine from there about a year ago. I have used this trick on a few Weiser handsets I picked up at an auction. (DANGIT - I should read comments before posting)

    good thing your locks have space to run something between the key and the plug

    Do you often come across knobs of similar construction where the knob has a a gap of 1/8 inch between the knob and rose?

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You referring to the pop out knob style? No, only Weiser ever did that as far as I recall

    • @lockWK-ij4vu
      @lockWK-ij4vu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      if your preferring to the old Dexter's from the early 90's I use to, however I believe I replaced everyone of them. Dexter the lock has to be off the door. turn the plug to the 6 o'clock pull the cylinder. Dexter's knobs was junk out of the box.

    • @zlocksca
      @zlocksca 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@selock yes to the style where the core comes out the front without removal from the door like the ones shown in this video

    • @selock
      @selock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zlocksca as Lock4565 mentioned, the old old old Dexter knobs operated the same way except it went to 6 o clock position only. I will note those had pretty dang tight tolerances as far as core to housing so they were much harder to pick
      As far as being able to pull it from outside, I don’t think it will work because of the parts they had in the back of the plug
